BECOMING FEARLESS IS REQUIRED | SmashweRx | The Unbreakable AF Podcast E000
I used to be terrified that I was going to suffocate to death.
I lived on an oxygen machine, and without it, I would pass out.
Both before and after the surgery, I would struggle to breathe, and at first, after the surgery, it was even worse.
It felt inescapable, and I definitely passed out more than once.
The part that was really challenging me was the fear.
I would get anxious whenever I’d get into a workout, or anything physically demanding for that matter.
And of course, that anxious feeling sped up my heart rate and burned through oxygen, which made it worse.
It was like pouring gasoline on a fire.
I honestly just got tired of being controlled by something, and got pissed off.
So I’d throw myself INTO whatever situation was kickstarting the fear, in this case, breathing, more out of anger than anything else.
But what happened because of doing that was wild AF!
You’ve got to watch the video.
    So much love,

We don't know each other but I've been watching your videos over the years. I think I stumbled on your channel after googling some sort of muscle pain I was having and subscribed ever since. I was worried for you when I saw your health scare. I was at the gym the other day and I thought about how I hadn't seen anything posted from you recently (not that I'm on very often). I'm glad you're still up here staying healthy, inspiring, helping, educating and motivating us out here on the interwebs. On days I don't feel like working out I think of what you went through, make myself push forward and embrace the suck. On days or weeks that I feel injury I often wonder if I can find a video where you address it and give tips on alleviating it. Thanks for all you do!

To make a long story short I had a agoraphobia and was trapped in my home for over a year-and-a-half until one day I decided...NO MORE!!

Sounds like a plan! I survived heart failure in 2022. I have become stronger since then. It was my “never give up” mentality that saved me.

Great to hear your recovery, Trev. This sounds like the principle of 'exposure' that is key to cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). The old 'face your fears ' dogma. But it's important to put a disclaimer that this is useful when there is a large emotional component to the avoidance. This is not recommended if someone's difficulties are mainly physical (could do more damage than good)unless it is done with care and monitoring. Keep up the good shit 💪

I definitely needed to hear this! I completely agree too. I'm in the process of forcing myself to do something in spite of the fear as well. I've been taking the small steps toward what scares me in anticipation of the big step coming. It's definitely an addicting process for building self confidence.

You gotta be ready to die and not afraid of it, the worst that can ever happen is you die and if your not afraid of that then nothing is scary

Man that's really scary. I've been training "in a dark place" off and on for the last 6 months or so. Had to stop once because I was dizzy, light headed and heart was painful, pins and needles in hands etc. I wondered if it was something with my heart but I've had all kinds of tests done and the doctor told me it was all just anxiety. I honestly am not sure to this day what's going on with me but I fight every single day in the gym and some days are better than others. Some days I sit in that dark place and battle it with everything I have. I am scared honestly, but I can't let it control me. Sometimes I figure - if I die right here then so be it, but in my heart of hearts I hope I don't. It's really tough not knowing if there's something going on as my symptoms sound like SVT but apparently I'm fine. To anyone out there fighting demons and battles like me - I feel you and I fight too. 👊

I'm glad you figured it out. I have exercise induced asthma. I felt the same exact way. I was squatting in my garage and it was hot and humid and I couldn't get any air. I started to black out and was totally panicked as I hit the deck.
I now have a fan running at all times during the summer and have a rescue inhaler in case that ever strikes again.

Ditto, Trevor Bachmeyer. Hits like a fast train! Lungs close up. Distressing & frightening.
Scares the sh1t out of me but dealing with exercise induced asthma is more than facing and confronting your fear. If I didn't have an inhaler (my gym blankie!) handy, I'd be in a box! It really limits my physical ability. I have read comments here, some great wisdom!
The lung suction is physical not emotional and without medication I would suffocate. I had great experiences as a child swimming and my instructors mantra was "Panic is your enemy!" Thus, I never panic.
If anyone gets into this lung suction state remember this protocol (works for me): 1. Stay calm. (It will pass) 2. Lay flat on the floor on your back. 3. Pant slowly and relax - you just need to get Oxygen to your brain to buy time for the lungs to relax, dis-engage and start breathing smoothly. I am not a Doctor! Cortisone / Cortisol induced reaction (or absence of). The body stops production so inhaler delivers and calms the exercise induced lung inflammation.
If there is a specialist medical Doctor knowledgeable in this area could you please share any tips and wisdom. Thank you. This is the bane of my training & it will definitely prevent my presence at the next Olympics . . .

wonderful news. an analogy for fear, could be the troll in the box, with a spring, that pops up every time you open the lid. the first thing to Do is to create a small space between you and the troll, to se that it is not dangerous, because its fastened to the box with a spring, it can't go anywhere, it can only give you a shock when you open the lid. what you did is the next step, pulling and pulling the spring, until its just a long string of metal, with no spring effekt-voila-now the troll in the box is permanently out of order

Well, eventually the fear goes away because someone else present is willing to be realistic and give you assistance in figuring out what the problem is. In other words, without other people to do the “worrying” FOR you, you probably wouldn’t be here now to make this video. Humility can help everyone.

No man can outrun the hand of God Himself. In Christ, fear and torment have no residence or power. Separation from Him, however, gives fear and torment free reign. Inasmuch, although many have a form of “Godliness,” they deny the irrevocable gift of power found only in Jesus Christ. Furthermore, scripture tells us that if anyone be His, He will surely find him, and save him from himself,,,There is no mountain or valley where man can remain hidden; His love ALWAYS finds he that is lost. To that end, wisdom cautions us that “casting pearls amongst the swine” is like scattering seeds upon the fallow ground,,,so only those who have ears to hear and eyes to see will respond accordingly. It is the Father’s spirit alone that prepares the soil of the heart to receive truth. We are commissioned primarily to love one another just as we ourselves are loved, without any strings attached; that is to say, love unconditionally.

@@debunkgod and no one can prove any of this crap. The only thing that book proves is worthless crap taught to scare people into another form of control and hypocrisy. Another way to generate money to feed the greed and reasons for bad and immoral people to do bad crap to kids. That’s all it does and all it ever will be.
