YOU PROBABLY DON’T NEED SHOULDER SURGERY | Trevor Bachmeyer | SmashweRx
.
Your shoulder is designed to take all kinds of abuse, and recover. That’s not the problem.
.
The issue is that a lot of you wait until a grenade goes off in your shoulder to START taking care of those nagging problems you’ve had for the last decade.
.
Instead of tackling a shoulder that’s filled with shrapnel (however this video will handle that no problem) this video explains how to take care of those aches, pains and sticking points BEFORE your shoulder implodes.
.
When you work through this (or any other program) you need to make sure that you exploit the full potential of the area that you’re working on.
.
In this case, the shoulder.
.
When you’re going through each movement, push PAST those restrictive points in the range of motion. By doing that, you’re training your nervous system to bypass the ‘safety switch’ that’s built in to limit motion and load when you have pain.
.
Except...that restriction will stay in place unless you do something about it.
.
By going through most shoulder programs using unilateral movement, it keeps your nervous system from ‘piggy backing’ off the movement and range of motion of the ‘better side.’
.
Hit this entire series 3 times a week, independent of your training (no, not as a warm up either).
.
This video will take you from stuck, in pain, and weak, to working the way your shoulder is designed.
.
1️⃣ Unilateral Cuban Press - 4 x 10
2️⃣ Banded Unilateral Cuban Press - 4 x 10
3️⃣ Unilateral Ring Row - 3 x 15
4️⃣ Prone Double Sweep - 2 x 10
5️⃣ Prone Bump Sweep - 2 x 15
6️⃣ Side Plank Push - 2 minute hold
7️⃣ Partial TGU - 2 x 15
8️⃣ Push Up Hop - 20 reps
9️⃣ Plank Walk Around - 360 degrees
.
Hit me up in the comments with whatever you need!
.
I love you all!

Trev, as someone who has 5 shoulder surgeries (3 of them open surgery) under his belt, I salute you .Don't make my mistakes, guys.
I feel as if I probably have already. What's your mistakes? Bench press kills my shoulders
Same here lol do not get shoulder surgery it only makes it worse and so much harder to rehab i have had 2 and wish I never did
This man has saved my shoulders and knees multiple times in my life!
Same here bro
WTF , I just did this whole session and basically after doing all this , my shoulder feels so much more fluid and liquid with no snap crackles, you're a legend, only my first session on this so I'll report in 2 days again
Thankyou so much Trevor.
From Davee H, Melb Australia
Two torn labrums in 2018 - I was a mental mess, nearly everything on the internet points to surgery (and so do DRs) with very few corners of the internet speaking of successful rehab stories. Its 2023, and I'm lifting heavier than pre-tear. I did the exercises in one of trevor's earlier videos, they helped tremendously. To anyone reading this - be patient, be methodical, be consistent, be optimistic - You can fix your shoulders.
Which video/exercise did you do? My surgery date is mid-June. Although I’m lifting heavier than pre-last shoulder surgery last year, my shoulders are a mess, specifically the one that was operated on. It’s causing so much pain in my arm, it’s unbearable.
So you didn't have surgery?
OMG... you don't know just how injured you are until you've done these. That Bump Sweep (#5) is absolutely brutal. OK... 3x/wk. Awesome stuff TB.
My guy! Got some movement back in my shoulder, thank you bro x
I'm screwed, we don't have any minions at my gym.
Love the videos Trevor, thank you.
Trevor, you're the man, BIG thank you!!
My shoulders are shot, so this is exactly what i need. I will report back in a few weeks. Thank you, Pete
Absolutely love all the advise you give Trev. Started your shoulder drills/stretches a few years back and have not had an issue since. Thank you.
You helped me SO MUCH with my shoulder!! I was getting a little nervous because the pain and tingling to my fingers was level 10 crazy. Was never gonna do surgery. It's still releasing, but SO much better. Appreciate your expertise and insight. Thank you!!! 😊
You’re the best brother!!! How’d you know that my shoulder is bothering me? I think my has a dislocation or impingement of some sort!!
If I don't pull the scapula down and in my shoulder snaps and hurts like hell. If I rotate down and in there is no pain.
Amazing exercise, only issue is in the up position fully extended, my elbow hurts like a mofo
Glad I found you again love your videos and your attitude it’s awesome
Thank you!!! 💯🔥💪🏼
Omg!! Thanks for sharing this❤ I love it and my right shoulder will love it too!! 💪🏼🥰🔥
Preach. I have shoulder surgery around 2005. It is the 2nd worst decision I've ever made.
In a 20-year struggle to continue to be fit and overcome the effects of that surgery. I've learned so much more. I don't go to a doctor anymore unless I have broken bones sticking through my skin.
First one when you got married? lol just kidding. I am with you, had 5 surgeries and should not have done any of them. Stupid me. But go to a doctor if you have medical issues, seriously. You don't wanna get cancer and discover it too late etc etc. But for orthopaedic stuff? Absolutely I hear you. Last time I went to the doctor he told me that since I'm 53 years old, I should not train seriously, I should stay on the sofa. (like, what the actual fck? ).
Thanks Trevor
Always good content 💪
Can't get this kind of knowledge anywhere else. Thx Trevor!
Thanks Trev your the best mate !!!
Thanku very much bhai
Been using your videos for years! Appreciate all you put out 🙏
Omg, going to try
This is just what I've been looking for!
Thanks so much for the great content!🤘🏻🤘🏻
Great shoulder routine Trev. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. This helping figure out what is wrong with my shoulder. I appreciate your time.
Thanks brother I feel better when I do these hacks exercise:)
Awesome
Excellent knowledge and advice, as always 👌
Great to see you back my man!
Man, these movements feel so great. Thank you
You are amazing. Best of the best with real practical knowledge.
My best mobility doc, where have you been
Trev is simply the best
My bench press and overhead press has been having issues for a while. Implementing these TODAY.
Let's go!!!
Oh yes I do mine is completely out
I have very little external rotation and cannot perform these exercises very well. As an example I cannot put a bar on my back to squat. Thank you I will do these every day and I will will see.
This is the content I have been waiting for so very long. 🙏🙏🙏. Thank you so very much. This video itself gives such variety of shoulder mobility drills that can be good enough for any one recovering from shoulder problems or injury. This content is pure gold. Thank you again Trevor. You really Smashed it😅😅😅
Trevor thank you so much for your help
I've been in pain for more than a year and 2 weeks ago I started to do all the exercises you recommend to fix shoulders. I have to tell you that only in 2 weeks I am noticing some differences little by little. Mobility is getting better and the pain is lesser
Thanks again for your huge help
Be well
Damian
Thank you so much for this ! I used to play pro tennis ,now I'm fxxxd ,so this is exactly what I was looking for.
Yup, all that stuff…
”but”… check your hips as this can seriously affect your shoulder. Particularly your right shoulder.
Hey Trev, great to see you cranking out the vids again. I hurt my wrist/thumb area from tennis serving (after adding pronation for more serving speed) and tried adding a wrist brace but it must've been still aggravated because when I did straight bar bicep curls the pain skyrocketed. My physio says I have likely ligament sprain and tendon strain. So any videos on this - when to let it heal vs adding in exercises. then preventing this from coming back. also from all the upper body rotation when swinging forehadn/backhand I developed costochondritis rib pain in the chest. So now I get chest discomfort when just sitting in a chair without doing any chest exercises etc. So improving costo plus prevention of it returning would be great. Thanks!
I tore the long head bicep tendon off the labrum after a fall. I had to get that fixed surgically. It was a long, hard and extremely painful year long rehab. It was worth it 100%, but I would have done about anything else if I had a choice. I am going to try everything else I can in my other shoulder that has pain building in it. I needed rehab years ago but was too stubborn...
At first I was put off by your vids.
I have a slap tear, left shoulder. 3 years ago my right shoulder was replaced. Bad outcome.
Pain is bad in left shoulder and bicep
I've been athletic all my life and I am tired of the wait to see specialist.......
I will try this routine. Today, could only do 2 exercises and that was 2 sets 5 reps.
I will commit to every 2nd day for 30 days baring further injury.
See you October 6, 2023.
any updates bro?
Yeah tried for 20 days. Every second day , shoulder got worse. Dr. believes I now have a full thickness tear. Waiting on new MRI.
Trev! I’ve been looking all over for some corrective exercises for the pain I feel in my rear delt when I do internal rotation… for example, if I have my elbow at my side and it’s bent at 90° and I push on my own belly, I feel pain in my rear delt
I feel the same pain on most pulling exercises when I have my elbows pull it all the way back on a row… Feels like it might be the rotator cuff
Any suggestions?
Slap tear possibly…? Popping pain. Yes about to get surgery
How would you approach dealing with an imbalance where I can do one exercise on with one shoulder and not on the other? Stay at the easier one for both shoulders until the weaker one can progress?
This is me. Constant pain, took 2 months off lifting and it still hurts. Started lifting again and at least it's no worse than it was. Gonna try this.
Shoulder tendonitis, impingement and partial tears infamously take a long time to heal. It usually starts with a restriction on chest and shoulder pressing movements for upwards of 6-8 months. Meanwhile, you need to be building the rear delts, and upper back. Also, dead hangs can help a lot. I'd invite you look that up.
@briansotosf85 Thank you, I absolutely will! By dead hangs, do you mean from a pull-up bar in the down position? I just started doing this for spinal decompression, and my shoulder feels like it's getting better.
The pain in my left rear delt from doing the Cuban press is almost unbearable. Is there a movement I can do to specifically strengthen or work that part of my delt that will build up to being able to do a Cuban press without pain? TIA!
How often should this circle of exercises be done?
is it good for tears in the shoulders ?not full tear ... thanks
Hey guys. I’m a vet who suffered a shoulder injury years ago. I work construction now. I’ve been dealing with my right shoulder popping in & out of place my whole life. Doctor last week told me the only way to repair that joint (fill in small pieces on the head to stop it from coming out) was to have surgery. Now, I can’t afford to be out of work for 4-5 months on recovery. Think strengthening the surrounding muscles would help? I used to go to the gym religiously and stopped after injuring that same shoulder and I guess I’ve been sorta scared of rly injuring it. I just nut up and deal with the pain every day. Help?
Thanks for your perspective regarding shoulder strengthening. I'm a 62 yr old lifelong athlete that is 6 months post, Total Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty on my LS that had 2 100% nonrepairable tears, the supraspinatus and Infraspinatus, both recessed 1.5" along with severe arthritis. This was the only option for my situation after trying to rehab the shoulder for 2 yrs. Mtn bike and ski crashes caused the tears, and my hard-headedness caused the prolonged downtime. I was initially diagnosed with a grade 3 tear, so I decided to rehab, didn't work. I'm in the gym doing light weight training and the deltoids are picking up the slack of the two missing LS RC muscles. My question is, since my other shoulder has similar damage but is less arthritic, can I try some of these exercises or should I keep to my current regimen that includes LWeights (3-5 sets, 20-25 reps) bands and normal exercising, includes Mtn biking ( no more air time), Golf (soon, just hitting wedges ATM) and pickleball, easy paddleboarding? I've been told the RS needs surgery too, and nearly 3 yrs of trying to rehab it hasn't really helped. I'm frustrated and looking for options.
The exercises you perform seem like they are more suited to someone with shoulder sprains or less?
Along with my normal gym routine, I played PB and mtn biked 17 mi and 2000' vert this past weekend without pain, just some expected soreness. Due to two procedures, I didn't ski or mtn bike last year but am making my comeback this year and also have committed to an extremely healthy diet and supplements.
I'm in a similar position. The surgeon says i need a reverse total shoulder arthroplasty too. But I still have almost a full range of motion and had a full thickness supraspinatus tear repaired 7 years ago that somehow got torn again. I'll go the exercise route this time because the surgeon told me last week that I would only be able to lift 20lbs. overhead even if the operation was successful.
Can you do this for bone on bone knees? ...........
As someone who partially torn their rotator cuff osteo biflex has helped me as instantly as i started taking it in July and when i say my shoulder feel restored it's no joke but if you are allergic to shellfish or glucosamine or anything else make sure to read the ingredients check with your health care provider if necessary. At walmart this product only cost $17-$18
Trev ur rotating ur upper arm 60 degrees more than I have. I’ve been told bone spurs are impeding my range of motion. 25 yrs of BB with no stability training…last 10 yrs have watched ya & resisted the surgery…can u do a vid for guys that have 20-30 degrees external & internal? Thx
Do this and see if your rotation increases. I have see 2..3 videos by Tom Morrison that give “tricks” for extending rotation.
A Feldenkrais one too (lesson).
Minion figurine sales up 10000%
Oh Trevor ... you turned on the comments! Nice job!
Is it ok if there's pain and stiffness when doing the first Cuban? Should I just do it as best I can?
Yes and stay on the near edge of pain. Stay out of pain itself
Hi, will this help if you dislocated your shoulders a few years ago and they sometimes slip out but go back in?
that sounds like shoulder subluxation, you should get a physio to look at it
@Marcus Mckinnon thanks.
My brother says your videos have helped him with other injuries so he sent me this one. I have a tear in my rotator cuff, a tear in my bicep and my AC joint is messed up from an injury and arthritis. I am currently saving money for stem cell injections. Will this fix my injuries or do you think i need to do stem cells or surgery?
Stem cells is great from what I hear from people who did it. My doc said she was days away from surgery and opted not, she had a bad tear. 4 PRP injections and rehab of ,8 months and she says it's as if it never happened.
@joy d thank you for your reply. I'm doing shoulder exercises now and i still plan on doing stem cells
you are doing a huge favor to me
My shoulders are JACKED, in a bad way. Probably medial nerve impingement on both sides. Going to follow this routine 3X/week for 8 weeks and report back.
How did it go for you ?
No surgery. Shoulders are better, but not perfect. My adherence to this protocol was undisciplined. As soon as I'd feel a little better, I'd stop the PT, which is clearly not ideal.@@MrRockshow69
I have bone on bone on my left shoulder
He’s right! Do not get surgery! I had 2 that made it worse and it’s never gotten better after!!!
I ran into other guys my age here in Florida ,said the same thing...mostly the active guys...multiple shoulder surgeries...
I finally get it - you're workout Jesus and Humiston is workout Satan. Totally blew out my shoulder doing one of his bizarre pullup variations a few days back. Shoulder poppin and clickin like R2D2 with tourettes. Your other shoulder videos were pretty damned good, but I just did the protocol in this video, and I'm instantly 50% better, on my way to 100%. You saved me, workout Jesus!
I love your stuff. But I feel overwhelmed because between all your shoulder videos there is SOOOO much to do. How does someone choose which set of movements to work on?
Read the description and listen to what issues he is describing. Pick whichever one feels doable and right for you and then STICK TO IT. You will thank yourself later. Don't freeze because of what seems like an over saturation of options. The worst thing you could do is nothing. Start small and simple then reasses after you feel some progress.
@@hnunez1307 Thanks for the advice. I’ll definitely give it a try!
Going to do this, shoulder is f*
Its a shame but TB doesnt seem to reply to comments.
Ive actually had keyhole surgery for a SLAP 4 and a few years later open surgery detaching one of the bicep tendons and also for impingement. I did the rehab (cable over the door and mostly external rotation with the arm from elbow to hand at 90 and rest of arm against the body).
Tried the first one and still hurts like shit (surgery 6 yrs ago).
The only question i have is post surgery should you use this .
can you do it every day?
3x a week
I had shoulder last year. My reflexes pulled my arm out of the sling days after surgeryMy whole arm is messed up with a new full tear in a diff spot. Surgery booked next month. This might be a sign from God to cancel.
Did you try it? And if yes, feels better?
did you get surgery?
@@ThrasherTylerI prayed so hard before the second surgery. Turned out to be a procedure where the surgeon removed lots of hemorrhagic bursitis - that caused me most pain as I tore my left one because of it (not fitness related). The first surgery to my right arm, although the tear did fix, my arm internally rotated as a result and having issues lifting my weights, where there wasn’t issue before on certain exercises. Fixed something, but messed something else up. Tbh I wish I never did the first one. Toughest year of my life, and I had a stroke. My pain threshold is high, but this was on another level.
@@SandraJM I have a shoulder that won’t stop dislocating it’s happened 8 times in four years, I had a MRI I guess my labrum is torn and I have a hill Dachs lesion on my glenoid from bone on bone rubbing and they want to sink 5 anchors 3 in the labrum 2 in the hill lachs lesion and threw arthroscopy. I’m terrified I’ve never had surgery but my shoulder won’t stop dislocating it even happen while I was sleeping and sitting on the couch. I’ve recently bought health supplements to start feeding my bone what it’s lacking like bone supplements and ligament and tendon supplants and collagen for new cartridge growth I’m trying everything even fish oils turmeric glucosamine msm all of it and I want to start eating deer antler powder and fresh bone marrow too for new stem cell development and again new cartridge growth I just don’t know if any of this in the end will really allow my shoulder to stay strong from not dislocating again I just think I need the surgery but I just don’t know and am lost right now!
After I went to my doctor and he recommended that I get an MRI I did so. The MRI revealed that I have no Cartlidge left in my shoulder and I have bone spurs on the other part tearing up tissue. Any recommendations?
Gradually rebuild strength through available range of motion.
Surgery to help you with fake cartilage. No matter the exercice you can’t rebuild cartilage there.
God my shoulders are wrecked, even that first one, with no weight, my shoulders pop, crunch, and HURT! so much so that I'm afraid to do it. Someone shoot me.
Find an intro video and start much much slower. No rush. It took you a long time to get this injured. It will take some time to get it back.
@@hnunez1307 Thanks man, I hear you. When I was in my late 20's something happened, suddenly I couldn't lift weights or throw. It gradually got worse for the next 30 years to now where they are a disaster. So you're probably 100% right, it's gonna take time to undo30 years of poor posture and shoulder mechanics.
PS, I used to have big shoulders that looked like a half a softball implanted under the skin, now I have absolutely none, like ZERO muscle. I should probably go to the doctor and see why these muscles atrophied so much, maybe I have a neck issue, my hands do go numb at night when I sleep.
Is that a real beard lol
Quick aside...if I do things for people who I love and care about as you implied, and they also take that spirit to heart, then, isn't it possible that someone is coming to save me? Sure, be self reliant. That's great. But, realize that there are people who do care about you. I realize he makes money and all, but isn't Travis doing this video like someone offering you a rope? We're in this together, and I would come to save you if I could. Sorry for the tangent
