I've seen probably hundreds of beach wave tutorials over the years and this is by far the easiest to follow one with simple instructions and beautiful, real results. Your explanation of the process is so easy and relatable. Great job!
Good to know! I’m here years later and this is the first one I watched and it looks just like what my hairdresser did on my new-to-me short bob. Sounds like I got lucky! Don’t plan to watch any others. My hair truly is short but can’t wait to try this!
Okay I have the worst hair for this kind of thing. Thin, doesn’t hold a curl, doesn’t cooperate...and I followed this tutorial today and it was like MAGIC. The way you describe how to curl toward the front vs the back is the best I’ve ever seen. Love that I stumbled upon this video!
This lady is so beautiful and genuine. I love how she is focused on teaching and not on getting attention for her beauty like most of the people on UA-cam. Best tutorial ever!! I wish you millions in your bank account. Now I’m off to practice this technique.
This is honestly the most HELPFUL and straightforward set of instructions for curling your hair with straighteners that I’ve ever seen. I’m absolutely hopeless with hair but I actually feel semi-confident in being able to achieve the results I want after watching this. Thank you so much!
Thanks for the demo! And for any of you who have hair this length (below your shoulders) - newsflash - your hair is NOT short! This is medium-long category :) Have a lovely day!
I just have to say your awesome. I NEVER comment on anything but you deserved a comment. I've watched a ton of tutorials about doing beach waves and i couldn't do any. I was about to give up when I saw your video amd tried it right away. I didn't use any of the products you did just hairspray and my straightener and WOW. Perfect. I can't thank you enough. You rock!!!!
Thank you!! I never learned how to do my own hair, so it's greatly appreciated when someone emphasizes what to do with their hands and walks through each step instead of fast forwarding through most of the process. This was very helpful!
I’ve watched hours of curling with a straight iron and haven’t been able to master it! I know why now..I was trying to wrap my hair around it like a curling iron and not the half twist. Your teaching technique with the thumb/finger is amazing. I’ve got it now. Thank you. Ps. You have beautiful eyes 😁
Thank you! This is the best tutorial that I've found so far for waves with a flat iron. I cut my hair, that was down past my waist to just below my shoulders. I have always worn it completely straight, and wanted a completely different look, and have been trying to get the waves. I'm able to curl it but I'm getting more of a curl than a wave. Your tutorial is a big help! I love the suggestion of finger placement on the flat iron, and doing some sections away from, and some toward, the face! And I really like where you explain how to get the piece right next to your face a little straight after you put the wave in. This will be a huge help the next time I do my hair!
Thank you so much for the visual of twisting where you can see your thumb or fingers! I could not for the life of me ever get the amount of rotation for the flat iron correct and this helps tremendously!
Yes! Thanks for the fingers - thumb placement tip; now I’m not flipping the flat iron back & forth to see which way it goes! You don’t waste time talking, either. Thumbs up for getting to the show part and cutting down the tell. Love your steps for the beach waves.... they work for me!
this has to be by far the best flat iron curls tutorial I've watched. I don't normally curl my hair after flat ironing but now that I have new bayalage highlights I really want too! Definitely going to give this a go tomorrow! thank you!!!!
Great tutorial!! I;m also a hairstylist, for over 30 years...she's using "Moroccan Oil"which is NOT cooking oil...Ever hear of a "Hot Oil Treatment" for damaged hair? This is an entirely different molecular composition...The Use of oil n dry hair prior to a styling is OK, it's referred to put it in the hair prior to drying and styling... The her activates the molecular structure and does provide a little protection...You did GREAT!
You are my hero! I have tried so many different ways to do this and have failed until I found your video! I start a new job tomorrow and you saved the day!! Thank you!!
Omg this tutorial is a game changer! You have done the best video on how to do waves with a straight iron that I have seen, and that whole tip with the hand and the thumb, genious! Thank you!
I’ve always struggled with the whole how to curl toward my face and how to curl away and the finger and thumb thing makes so much sense thank you so much for this video.
I have watched many many tutorials on this topic and yours is by far the best! Your explanation using the thumb and fingers is so effective. All your tips are very helpful.
I have practiced this so many times and I still can't get it! My hair comes out almost straight every time. It looks so easy so I can't figure out where I'm going wrong lol
I love this tutorial! TFS! ❤ I smiling reading the comments of frustrated girls, it's true that it look so easy but when you're going to try it becomes a disaster. 😵 "The practice makes a master" 🙏
this is perfect, I just cut my hair yesterday and it's a little shorter than yours - can't wait to play around with my flat iron and curling wands! you look lovely as always Kayli, thanks for the tutorial :)
I've watched so many of these videos and this is the first to have clicked! The description of fingers forward then thumb forward helped me a ton. Thank you.
I agree with many of the other comments that this is one of the best tutorials for beach waves with a flat iron. Thank you for explaining how to position your hands. I needed it broken down like that. I followed the instructions step-by-step, trying to section my hair the same way as Kayli. I had one hot flat iron and one cold in front of me so that I could practice a section with the cold flat iron first. I love the results. One question that I have Kayli, is how do you get away without brushing or combing each section before making the curl? I have so many fly-away strands that would otherwise fall out of the section and have lots of little frizzies.
Great video. I have been struggling with curling with my new flat iron and keep trying to twist it like a curliong iron (needless to say it's not working well). Will definitely be trying this tonight.
TheSpiritualife I use my flat iron for everything that I "used" to do with a curling iron! Flat irons (in my opinion) are much easier to use than a curling hair.
TheSpiritualife you know those ribbons used for wrapping presents? If you run the back of scissors (blunt side) along a ribbon, it curls up :) think this hair styling is of same principle
Hi, I have always had trouble curling my hair, but I actually created waves using this technique. Yes, I have some practice to go, but I was looking for some styles for reception work and it really helped. Thanks.
Finally, a tutorial that works for me. This technique is much better than others, I managed to do this first time and get a pretty good result. Just needa little more practice and I'm sure I'll have it down. Thanks!
So glad I watched this as I already own a hair straightener but was about to purchase a beach wave heated styling wand. I'll save the money and try your technique instead!
Been looking for a tutorial that easily explains this technique... you nailed it! Honestly the idea of explaining which way your fingers hold the straightener has been the most helpful tip I have heard so far. And in REAL time not sped up! Much appreciated. Only issue I have is that I have bangs now and it is sooo hard to figure out how to blend them in. Full fringe here, not curtain bangs that easily blend with curls. I'm excited to try this out!
I am dyslexic and have a really hard time with curling irons and flat irons, but your video explaining finger positioning is really going to help, thank you!
Excellent explanation! Plus always making sure we see what you are doing! Also showing us the amount of products you put in your hair. I will be watching you now from now on.
Excellent video, doll. I’m always interested in different methods to get quick beach wave hair because I have enough hair for 3 people and it always seems to clump together and it’s heavy, too, so even after pinning the curl until the hair is cool, again, but usually, no bueno. Thanks, again!
You have to make sure you're turning your flat iron enough that it's still curling the whole way down and not just pulling straight through to the ends. Try to do smaller sections and when you're about half way down the hair, turn the iron around a little bit more and keep going :)
You may need to give your hair a few (5-10) seconds to set, instead of just running the flat iron through and releasing. Also, you could hairspray right after if your hair doesn't hold curl!
Vada the turtle try moving the iron through your hair on a higher heat setting and more slowly... I have the same issue and even when I'm moving really slow I can only get something at the bottom of my hair, but trust me, if you are moving the iron through your hair too quickly it won't work
Melissa Toon I've been trying to curl my hair for years with my ghd just can't do it it goes dead straight at top and kinky at the bottom not a good look at all
tasiawful1 but how is that someone else's fault. And for the thousandth time EVERYONE'S HAIR IS DIFFERENT. NOT EVERY HAIRCUT, CURL OR PRODUCT WORKS THE SAME ON EVERY PERSON. OML

I've seen probably hundreds of beach wave tutorials over the years and this is by far the easiest to follow one with simple instructions and beautiful, real results. Your explanation of the process is so easy and relatable. Great job!
This is what I came to say! I like how she repeated about the finger and hand positions over and over. It really helps. 😀 Great tutorial!
Good to know! I’m here years later and this is the first one I watched and it looks just like what my hairdresser did on my new-to-me short bob. Sounds like I got lucky! Don’t plan to watch any others. My hair truly is short but can’t wait to try this!
Same here...I am so uncoordinated, especially when looking in a mirror. The hand placement instruction over and over and going slowly really helps!

Haha I feel the same!!! Why is it to difficult lol
Only right side comes out right. The left comes out frumpy and almost completely straight
It helps if you pull downward as pulling out. That made a huge difference for me.

ohhh that makes sense! i'll have to give it a try, maybe it seems more scary because it's hot!
You see how she has the flat iron twisted instead of going straight down ? Thats how it curls.
Yes it’s the best!! I do it all the time but sometimes I make the curls too tight!
She give the BEST demonstration I have seen yet!!
Nice to see a video with proper instructions on how to do this. Great way to use hand placement - my hands always get in a mess when I try to curl it!
And here I am 5 years later - still can’t do it!

Hey Kayli I really love your videos and I really like this tutorial you did a really good job explaining💕❤️❤️ I will subscribe
This tutorial is very helpful because you show how to twist several times! Also, the finger and thumb rule helped very much!
Aaaa i hate that twisting thing it just doesnt work for me😒 seriously I've been trying for so long in every way possible and its not working
It could be your straightening iron. The iron needs a round head to work, not a flat one, or it will come out weird.
