High density big-building projects and proposals enabled by the construction of the new LRT system which unfortunately doesn't seem to be working very well nowadays.
Some buildings I presented were definitely much shorter than the Peace Tower such as The Next Project, but I am not completely sure what you are talking about. They might've changed the rules, or set them for a very specific area in Ottawa, but there are buildings that have already been built in Ottawa which are taller than the Peace Tower. The Peace Tower is 98m, and Place de Ville Tower C is 112m.
The idea is that a skyscrapers profile cannot dominate/overshadow the peace tower, and certain views of the peace tower must be protected. Place de Ville Tower C is a big reason for this. Prior to Place de Ville Tower C there was indeed a strict height limit but then the NCC approved a design for a 42 story tower (that would become Place de Ville Tower C). The city fought that so Place de Ville Tower C as we know it today was the compromise. The current system ensures that most new towers downtown (and Rideau st too) are no higher than Place de Ville Tower C, which is why almost every tower proposed ends up 90 meters/27 stories tall. But this is also why you're seeing taller towers being proposed and built on Carling & at Lebretron Flats, both locations further away or at lower elevations from the peace tower.
@@futurecitieschannel you are right, that rule applies only in the parliament hill area. There’s Clarifge Icon which is definitely taller than the peace tower. And now Trinity Centre is going up the sky, even higher than the claridge icon
That only applies in Parliament Hill amd around that area. We already have Claridge Icon much higher than the peace tower, and we have even higher skyscraper under construction at 900 albert street just across the bayview station

I am from Ottawa. No building are allowed to be built higher then the peace tower (which is why there us no tall skyscrapers here).

I find that there needs to be more attention to affordable housing in every city where there are many high-rise projects.
