The black lines represent the stronger crescent shadows that are present from light refracting off of glossy/metallic materials. Thats why Storm has them across her entire body; her outfit is supposed to be a more shiny/glossy material, unlike something like flat white cotton. Magnetos' helmet, belt, and the purple parts on the gauntlets and boots have traditionally been depected as being metallic.
Ken is an artist. Artists use brushes and paints rather than pens or markers to paint. Yet, Ken is an open-minded artist and is willing to try new skills, tools and materials to make his works of art.
If you hit the ink with a matte finish spray, the gloss won't be a problem. I've used these pens to fill in the lines on Spider-Man figures. If the ink dries out, that might actually be because it has accumulated too much dry paint on the tip of the pen. Draw a few lines on scrap paper until the ink comes out again. If that doesn't work, try a little water at the tip, then give the scrap paper lines another try. Great work and good luck!!!
@@JeffZ1028 yeah similar. But these are mainly for art but works on plastic too. You can find them in any thickness you want. By thickness I mean the line thickness starting from 0.05mm to 0.8 mm
I believe you're not supposed to use those pens on painted areas so maybe a clear coat first, THEN the pen? Think that's why it "dries up". I've also heard that you can use an eraser to remove it, although I haven't really tried that myself. You should really try out a chrome paint pen as well Ken! Id be so interested to see what ideas you come up with in how to use it. I've used one to improve a ton of my figures, like my Marvel Legends Winter Soldier, the brand new Scarlet Spider and a bunch of bladed weapons. You just have to be extremely careful and not touch it as it cures as you'll ruin the mirror finish, just make sure to seal it with a clear coat so that doesn't happen. Great work as always👍
How many coats of paint do you have to use to get opacity? The reason I'm asking is I saw you were using craft paints. Have you tried higher quality acrylic miniature paints? They're opacity is generally higher their coverage is generally better and they dry to be a little bit tougher.
Why not use a Gundam marker? Like for Gundam plastic model kits? They come in many colours and come in fine tip pens, brush markers, felt tip, all sorts really
So the straight up black shadow is often used in 2d animation as a way to simulate an object being reflective and/or metalic. Also the pen may not have run out of ink but rather, scratched off paint got on the tip of the marker and is blocking the ink (just a theory though) 🫡👍
An awesome job with pen and paint brush for Cel-shading. Great work as always!

Somehow it never occurred to me that the material was a factor for cell shading, thanks for pointing it out.
The 'purple' is very good and right. It makes the cape look much prettier and not that glossy.
With the cel-shading and darkened shadow eyes, Magneto looks more menacing.
It's amazing what a couple of paint coats can do. And of course your talent
Can you customize the scarlet spider marvel legends next with shell shades
I’m loving this X-men series you’re doing so far
Great work! He looks so much better with those shades of darker purple! 👏🏼

artists also use pens and markers. what the hell are you talking about?
What’s wrong with pens and markers? There are a lot of individuals who can make magic with just pen and markers.
Y’all miss the part of using pens and markers to paint! He’s not dissing
These look like mini mondo collectibles after you are done with them, good job!
That's awesome, hope to see more X-Men videos.
the black lines in the purple are to make it look metalic, like storm's suit
Nice job! Your video editing and photos are also very professional and man, your dioramas are awesome!

That darker purple looked good.
You are literally the best UA-camr ever!!
Nice one bro you are really talented 👌 👏 👍 🙌
Those black lines are basically reflection lines to show those parts are made of metal. Normally there's a white line to contrast it
The Micron truly was the way to go. Glad it worked out!
Love your X-Men cell shading videos… if you’re looking for references Mondo does some great cell shading on their animated X-Men stuff
These are coming out great
I'm glad you read my comment and picked up the sakura micron.
Are these basically the same thing as Gundam markers?

The eyes. *chefs kiss* 🤌🏻
I’m loving this series of customs! Would it be possible to see the cel-shaded set so far in a group shot in one of the next videos?
Please do the whole line!!! 🙏

Hoping you will also modify marvel legends Xmen 97 cyclops or the VHS cyclops
Well Ken has proven... the pen is mightier than the sword! 😁
As someone who just started using Micron Pens, you're not supposed to use it over paint, as the pen will pick it up and it'll clog the tip.
When a pen is glossified you should first paint the collours, add the pen stripes and then spray it with mr super clear
Have you ever thought about doing soft goods for your figures😊
I love you videos you inspire me 🤩 👍
Can you help us make some magnetic effects?? Thank you

Valeu vídeo
What sand paper he uses?
But this came out awesome
I think you should ask hasbro about your customized paint inthink this will be the last time to watch your vlog

Get a Gundam marker if you use pens. Those pens are meant for paper
I don't like cell shading
Certainly very hit or miss
