when can we expect the tempest wizard build? these videos are a gold mine and i cant wait to follow more of your guides, keep up the amazing work dude!
just got my golden dice using this party comp (obviously without the guide) but i can confirm that this party composition has great synergy and works so well together!!
Wow thank you very much for all the info you provide! Solid guide for the players (like me) that are easily overwhelmed by all the info and possibilities of this fantastic game!
Great team comp, I had a similar one during my honor mode run. A slight change to the tempest wizard I would suggest is to spec divination wizard instead of evocation in order to ensure guaranteed hit with maximised crit witch bolt for a one turn boss killer. I also regularly switch out party members depending on combat. Eg for Ansur tempest wiz is useless hence I used a open hand monk instead
This is the very best video on party comp that i've ever watched.. Gear overlap was the great issue in my 2 first playthrough.. I'm at the third one now, first time with the durge, i will make these 4 characters and plus a open hand monk, because free gear..
The reason dedicated Healer/Buffers and Tanks were massively valued at one point was because they were required for a party to function on Modded Difficulties infinitely harder than Honor Mode, before Honor Mode was released, for example with the Pre-Nerf Harder Bosses mod on high end settings of the Nightmare Difficulty modlist it was practically impossible to run full damage in the Act 3 encounters. Oh and also Tanks always doubled up as high DPR and burst. The only reason damage is considered more valuable is because the base game is so ridiculously easy even on Honor Mode for anyone willing to engage with its mechanics. But even with that said, at the very least having a Life Cleric is better than one extra damage dealer on Honor Mode, just because a single action heal of theirs is better than 3 Bonus actions combined multiple times over, which frees up those Actions to be used purely for damage. There's also that the Sorlock, Tempest Wizard and Gloomstalker can all easily wipe out an entire encounter in one round, more damage at this is completely redundant imo, compared to having the ability to instantly save your run. Remember most guides like this should be dedicated to people who struggle to complete Honor Mode, AKA someone more likely to make missplays, mess up their party's gameplay loop and more likely to be completely fucked by a stroke of bad luck, having insurance that practically guarantees that you'll never die is extremely valuable for that kind of player IMO
Yeah, I completely agree with all you said, I guess the majority of tryhards dismiss life clerics because it's no use to them past a certain understanding of the game while it does guarantee that you will never die and make your honor run stress-free
Definitely enjoying your BG3 videos! One thought: for your baradin and wizard, wouldn't it make sense to put the more powerful hand crossbows (Hellfire Hand Crossbow and Ne'er Misser) in their off hand instead, so that's the one they use when weaponizing their bonus action? I mean, I know paladins often use their bonus actions as part of their smites, but they're more likely to use a bonus action shot (when not smiting) than they are to use their full action on firing a shot, IMO.
I love that, out of the hundreds of build videos for this game, you've only released like 5. And yet every single one has been gameplay redefining for me. Ultimate quality, from start to finish.
Yeah absolutely - as the game goes on there are hardly any encounters that even need the utilization of each character. Without arbitrary limitations the player character just scales much harder than the enemy.
Agreeing on the points. :) As for ”best” comp there are quite many answers tbh. There are so many aspects to take into consideration. I find several melee characters can delete single targets like no others, especially if you don’t wanna long rest often. And camp buffers make a big difference aswell (bar after confronting the brain the first, time.)
Absolutely, I was debating on the inclusion of so many more builds into the party. There is no one way to build a good party, honorable mentions to builds like the Open Hand Monk, Throwzerker, Light Cleric, BM Fighter etc. The viable build diversity is great :)
Great builds for sure . After beating honour mode 3 times , and over 1000 hours deep , the challenge of the game becomes trivial with character builds like this. Im using mods to up the enemy hp by 300-500% and boost the action point by 1 per turn. Its alot more challenging and engaging when you cant kill everything in 1 turn(boring) imo. At level 4-5 at the goblin camp drog ragzlin have 504 hp !!
Thank you for the high praise! I'll go over the clothes mods, as well as some that I play with for Quality of Life (I download all mods from Nexus, I don't know about the availability of these on the in-game mod support) Clothing: - Shadowheart is wearing "Bladesong Attire" - Rest of party is wearing "SR Legacies" - Scantily Camp Outfits Appearance: - Vesnelle's Hair Pack 2 - Vemperen's Other Heads - Eyes of the Beholder (Aberration) - Consort Dyes - Less Wrinkled Expressions Quality of Life: - Send food to Camp (automatically) - Improved UI - Mod Fixer - Save Alfira (so I don't have to knock her out to save her :P ) Hope this helped
I finished my honor mode (fought all bosses in a good playthrough) with abjurarion school origin gale: anything tbh, damage, utility, crowd control school of swords astarion: high damage, utility, buffs and healing (barely used) battlemaster lae'zel: crowd control and high damage the fiends pact of the weapon wyll: adaptability, good selection of high damage/crowd control spells idk if it's a good option but I recruited them in that order and they never left my party
i really love your build guides, they are seriously the best. i just arrived in act 3 with these builds and it's so much easier than my previous honour run and also much more fun to play, thanks
Especially on honor mode I feel like there are a few items that are broken and must be included on a team if you claim it as the best. Band of the mystic scoundrel plus helm of arcane acuity are busted busted. Easily the best two items in the game and must be used. Also really like the hat of fire acuity for the same reason. Only other thing I thought of is use monk. It is top three build in the game and makes most boss fights trivial with stunning strike. Plus all his gear is free for him to use and is exceptionally strong.
I was VERY close to switching out the Bardadin to the Mystic Scoundrel bard and including the Open Hand Monk over the Wizard because it really is that good, esp Act I. There is no one way to build the best parties, the inclusion of either of those would be correct :)
I am currently in act 2 on an honour run for my dice. I am going to respec my characters to this party but i have no durge in my group. I did the Raphael cheese to get Helldusk armour in act 1, would you use it on any of these builds? P.S. amazing vid and info!
Really any of the characters since it is such a powerful piece of armor that early on - so long as it is not on the Sorlock instead of the Potent Robe, any of them are fair game
I would say this is a pretty good "fair" comp (fair-ish, you are still using Bhaalist armor + slaying arrows). You are not taking advantage of many game-breaking mechanics such as stunning fist scaling with str, abjuwizard or angelic reprieve metamagic stacking. It's prefectly viable, but far from the best comp unless you have a self-imposed rule against abusing the more broken stuff (in which case an archer should be off the table).
Although I would have loved having Sorcerer over Wizard you cannot have both Sorcerer and Tempest Cleric while still having access to Chain Lightning. The only reason I decided to multiclass into Wizard is because they can learn Chain Lightning through scrolls. Unfortunately, for Sorcerers to cast Chain Lightning, they would have to use scrolls - which uses their intelligence as a spellcasting modifier :/
@searching4god yeah I watched the dedicated sorlock video where you explain it. Did not know that. I still probably would not gamble it in honor mode though. Anyway sorry about that.
Getting the potent robe isn't *too* painful once you know what you're doing, but it's annoying as fuck to figure out, since this game's long rest triggers aren't documented well at all online. What triggers Alfira's long rest, specifically, is the autosave you get either crossing the bridge to the blighted village, or approaching Edowin and his siblings. So the best way to get the potent robe is to exhaust all long rests just prior to those autosaves, make sure you're not getting any new scenes, go knock out Alfira, then trigger those autosaves. Boom, Quill shows up in your camp that night.
Last comment I swear lol do you think the gloomstalker is better using the bows you suggested or the titanstring with giant strength elixer? Not sure but again titanstring and the elixers are broken imo
If you use the Bloodlust Elixir there is no comparison, no amount of damage scaling can catch up to the addition of an entire action. If you either don't have or don't use Bloodlust Elixirs then absolutely the Titanstring + Giant Strength Elixir is the best in the game, even in Act III.
Im going through the game a second time and I want to incorporate Wyll or someone else instead of gale because I had him in my party the last time. But I also do not want to play a wizard for Wyll since hes a warlock by story. I do want to play the Sorlock myself, so can the tempest wizard be switched out for lets say a paladock for wyll? any other suggestions?
I make.. Made.. Did?.. The mistake of letting Alfira die, so, i wanna know, is the sorlock viable without the Potent Robe? Or should i make another caster build? (God sometimes english is hard)..
Only if you forget to knock Alfira out before getting her camp scene, if you do, playing the Dark Urge is only ever a net positive because of the cloak
Whoever your party face is should be the Sorlock, as they benefit the most from Charisma. If you are playing as Astarion, I'd recommend making him the Sorlock - otherwise make him a ranger.
If you knock Alfira out before getting her camp scene, a dragonborn called Quill arrives. You kill her instead, giving you both the Cloak and allowing you to get the robes from the still alive Alfira in Act II
I guess you have to decide whether you'd rather have a smoother early game or an even more busted late game. I imagine SFG reasoned that it was more important to survive act 1.
To clarify any confusion, echoing what @omegagaming609 said, the best item for the Sorlock is the potent robe (as mentioned around 19:10), which you get from Alfira in Act II. The item you get from the Dark Urge is the Deathstalker Mantle cape in Act I which I mention as being one of the best items for the Gloomstalker. Be mindful to knock Alfira out before you get the camp scene with her to avoid killing her and becoming locked out of the Potent Robes
You have to knock out alfira and then run across the bridge to the blighted and long rest as soon as possible afterwards. That’s the safest way to do it, imo - I’ve done it a ton of times and it never fails. The key is to not accidentally trigger a different long rest event that will take precedence over it. So I like to have someone cast sleep on alfira, have astarion sneak attack her with nonlethal (the sneak attack crit always one shots her when he uses a rapier), fast travel out of the grove, then run across the bridge towards the blighted village. The game autosaves once you’ve crossed the bridge, and I go to long rest immediately. Then the replacement bard, Quil, shows up and Durge kills them instead! Alfira is alive and well to give you the robe in act 2
@@Liv_Alive Man I did really try to do it before I saw this comment but I was not able to make it happen as I kept knocking her out and just long resting in place. I should have guessed that I had to go to the village... Still thanks for the help and I will use this trick for my next playtrough!

Amazing video. Thanks so much for the effort put into this! Can't wait for the Tempest Wizard vid!

Great edition, love the video
Straight fire intro
All of these builds played well are so strong that it kind of makes the need for a team redundant when they're soloing every encounter in 1-3 turns.

Whats the build for tempest wizard?
UNATCO theme from Deus Ex? Ah, a Man of Culture! 😌
🍷
Another thing, that Amulet that gives +2 Spell Saving DC and one extra Channel Divinity charge is a good one for the Tempest Wizard

what clothing mods are you running or mods in general? also love your guides, best ones out there 👍
Thank you for the high praise!
I'll go over the clothes mods, as well as some that I play with for Quality of Life (I download all mods from Nexus, I don't know about the availability of these on the in-game mod support)
Clothing:
- Shadowheart is wearing "Bladesong Attire"
- Rest of party is wearing "SR Legacies"
- Scantily Camp Outfits
Appearance:
- Vesnelle's Hair Pack 2
- Vemperen's Other Heads
- Eyes of the Beholder (Aberration)
- Consort Dyes
- Less Wrinkled Expressions
Quality of Life:
- Send food to Camp (automatically)
- Improved UI
- Mod Fixer
- Save Alfira (so I don't have to knock her out to save her :P )
Hope this helped
@searching4god I appreciate the reply! looking forward to more of your build guides 🙏
Nice Video. Can we get a build for the Tempest Wizard? :)
I finished my honor mode (fought all bosses in a good playthrough) with
abjurarion school origin gale: anything tbh, damage, utility, crowd control
school of swords astarion: high damage, utility, buffs and healing (barely used)
battlemaster lae'zel: crowd control and high damage
the fiends pact of the weapon wyll: adaptability, good selection of high damage/crowd control spells
idk if it's a good option but I recruited them in that order and they never left my party
Hope we get the tempteat wizard soon as id love to build this around my gale
Your editing is dope as fuck.
Appreciate you! Hoping to only get better
i really love your build guides, they are seriously the best. i just arrived in act 3 with these builds and it's so much easier than my previous honour run and also much more fun to play, thanks
Shadowheart's is called "Bladesong Attire" - available on nexusmods
Rivington Rat, Throwzerker, Radiant TB Monk, missing some heavy hitters
This is a cool build. I wanna try the tempest wizard now.
You should, one of the more satisfying builds to play
When will you make the tempest cleric guide for us? :)

Sigh reloads new save
Is it possible to use shadowheart as the tempest wizard? Looked like u used her in some of the footage.
Yep, the race is not significant at all for the Tempest Wizard
You have no choice than release the tempest wiz build now =)
Just a quick question. How did you get both the death Stalker Mantle and the Potent Robe later on in the game?
Tempest sorcerer is even more powerful cuz of metamagic and the damage buff u get at lvl 6
Just want to point out that if you use dark urge you will not get the potent robe unless you use mods.
Great video though
As referenced in many of the other comments, it is possible in the base game by knocking Alfira out before getting her camp scene.
@searching4god yeah I watched the dedicated sorlock video where you explain it. Did not know that. I still probably would not gamble it in honor mode though. Anyway sorry about that.

Dumb question
Where did you get those clothes for Shadowheart and Astarion?
Shadowheart's are the Bladesong Attire mod on Nexus, and Astarion's are SR Legacies again on Nexus
How can you get the mantle from Dark Urge but also get an essential item from Alfira? I thought that wasn't possible
How did you get so many hill giants strength elixers?
Last comment I swear lol do you think the gloomstalker is better using the bows you suggested or the titanstring with giant strength elixer? Not sure but again titanstring and the elixers are broken imo

@searching4god Sweet. Been looking for a strong build that could also dialogue, so thanks!

how can you get the potent robe as dark urge?
Im playing honor mode as astarian is he ok as ranger for party face or should I make him sorlock and make someone else ranger
Whoever your party face is should be the Sorlock, as they benefit the most from Charisma. If you are playing as Astarion, I'd recommend making him the Sorlock - otherwise make him a ranger.
True way to go Honor is SOLO
Can I make Gale the Gloomstalker assassin or will that break my immersion
Nah thats not canon
Why a storm wizard and not a storm sorcerer?
Because you can get 6th lvl spells scaling off of Intelligence via scrolls and not lose spell progression.
Exactly as above ^, since we're taking 2 levels into Tempest Cleric, the only way to get chain lightning would be through scrolls
Boring party. U need 4 palbards for sure
