Nice family friendly review. I'm a Genesis fan, former BMW and Jaguar owner, love my 2022 GV70 3.5 Sport Prestige, and particularly the interior styling. The GV80 coupe is beautiful inside and out but I hate the panoramic screen it and rivals are using. Much prefer the GV70 layout with separate instrument cluster, infotainment screen and climate controls, panoramic screens to me are distracting to the driver's full attention. They are finishing a Genesis dealership next to the Hyundai dealer (north Dallas area) I bought my GV70 from, so the dealer network is growing. Keep up the reviews..........change your wife's mind !!
When I first drove the GV70 a few years ago, I was immediately blown away. It was such an incredible total package and so pleasant to live with, I couldn’t believe it was essentially their first attempt at a small luxury SUV. Been rooting for Genesis ever since. Every vehicle I drive shows great attention to detail and determination to win buyers over. It’s very impressive. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
At least have your wife wait to test drive them both. Obviously you got the Lexus reliability which plays a huge role and the new go 550 on the outside looks boss but I feel as if the cost to own and maintain them are the same if not cheaper with genesis. Also I feel the price for what you get is better in genesis minus the reliability/ resale but I don’t buy a car to resell. Anyways you got to test drive and have an open mind especially if you are dropping that kind of money. Funny thing is I’m looking at the Gx premium plus,Acura TLX type S,genesis G80 and now this GV80.
The instrument panel is the biggest challenge for most carmakers. But Porsche does the best job where the instrument panel is cut exactly to fit the half circle of the steering wheel. When its level, nothing is blocked.
I couldnt agree more! I also have GV70 3.5 sport prestige 2024 and I love the instrument cluster. They went the lazy route like Mercedes and just stuck a rectangle on the dash and I think it was a bad move.
@@JGisMe2013 Absolutely, combining the instrument cluster with infotainment into a panoramic screen is bad design, distracting to the driver. Even worse is the single screen trying to do everything (Tesla), no physical buttons/switches and features buried in menus. The GV70 interior design is better, hopefully Genesis doesn't introduce these panoramic screens across the model lines. Otherwise the GV80 coupe is beautiful.
Have the 2023 GV80 Prestige 3.5 and love it. The gas mileage could be more better though. The best I have gotten is about 18 MPG, mainly highway driving with Premium Gas. It is interesting to know I was using regular gas and was getting about 15 MPG on average, mostly highway driving. Using Premium, my milage went up, but so did the cost, so it is a wash. The one really odd thing is the GV80 has a 21.3-sized gas tank, and my auto sensor for refueling indicates I have zero miles left to drive, and every time, I am only filling it up with approximately 18 gallons. What happened to the additional three gallons available in the gas tank. Genesis and the dealership can not explain it. I don't take any chances and always fill it when I get the refuel indicator. I would definitely recommend getting the tire rim insurance. I have the larger low profile tires and rims and I have rubbed three of them in potholes and hitting curbs! I have never done this all my years of driving. The lower profile tires and rims are easier to damage. I had the 2015 Nissan Murano (Never purchase this vehicle it has a defective JACO transmission - I replaced mine three times - Once 50K Miles - Warranty, 62K Miles - Paid 20%, and again at 70K full cost to me, There was more than a years worth of time between replacements so the one year guarantee was not available, after the last replacement I could trust owning the Murano and had to find another vehicle), and the Lexus RX 350, I drove that car to 110,000 and got 12K trade for it. It was a great car but the GV80 just looked and felt better to drive than any new Lexus. I would go with the GV80 over the coupe for one reason cargo space. I love having a full a cargo opening. The GV80 has lots of entry space and you don't have to be concerned about limiting roof or side angles. The GV80 has this and doesn't look boxy but maintains a great sporty design factor. One thing I do not like about the new interior of the GV80 and the Coupe is the full dash screen that includes the driver gauges. I prefer the independent gauge cluster in front of the driver and the large center screen I have in the 2023.
I can’t wait until they are on lots! I actually love the crossover look. I previously owned a Genesis and wanted the Mercedes Benz crossover but didn’t want to get rid of my Genesis. Now I’m getting what I want. SUV/not an SUV. I WANT THAT CAR!!!!!
You mentioned The Land Cruiser but it only has a 2.5L 4 Cylinder engine… disappointing! This Genesis GV80 Coupe has two V-6 turbo engine options! This vehicle is beautiful!
Large price difference, though, and different intentions. The 4 cylinder hybrid makes 465 lb/ft of torque, so it shouldn't have any problem moving the LC. Personally, I'd rather have that setup than the twin turbo in the new Lexus GX 550.
Great review for a car show love to see you on your circuit. I’ve owned two Genesis products, GV70 3.5 Advanced and G80 2.5 Sport Prestige and am a big fan. Going to take a hard pass on the coupe. Style is fine for me no kids but for $87k I don’t want to watch two tv monitors. Give me high end gauge clusters any day. That’s why I got the Mrs a 2023 Nautilus 2.7 awd. Vs the 2024. I don’t want an electronic billboard for a dash. Don’t know if I’d jump on the combination electrification and stay with the 3.5 T. More stuff to break and Genesis hasn’t been flawless.
Haha! Probably not. She's more into trucks anyway. Not sure when the official onsale date is, but I imagine soon. They've been teasing it for a while now.
I luv the look!! Also, what it had under the hood as well. Thank you for being 6’6”. I’m 6’8” and wanted to know if I’d fit comfortably inside because the cabin is killer. 1 question, does it use premium gas and what’s the mileage?
An SUV coup here in europe is bought by older people that think a sportscar is to low for them yet they still want something fast, luxurious and impressive. In general something they can easy step into.
Same platform as the GV80 with a powertrain from the G90, so I’d search known issues from each of those models to get an idea of potential issues. Always try to look at number affected versus number sold if the data is available.
Beautiful no question about it. But, will it stand the test of time regarding reliability, after all Hyundai doesn't really have the greatest reputation.
I always felt the exact same way about these coupefied SUVs. However, it wasn't the GV80 that swayed me, rather, the upcoming VW Tayron. Until then, I always said they were stupid since they defeat the purpose of buying an SUV e.g. head room, cargo space, utility. Now that I've seen the GV80 SUV coupe, I'm even more convinced, and feel there may be a place for them, after all. On the other hand, it could just be cognitive dissonance. Anyway, wheels are still all wrong. Not sure if these are the 20" or 22", but the ones here look way too wimpy. I'd personally prefer a black package to blackout all of the chrome both outside and inside. Aside from the wheels, not really a fan of bling. Its a bit too ostentatious for my taste. One more thing, I'm not sure why they felt the need to change center console and go from covered to uncovered cup holders. The covers made for on smooth clean surface as apposed to the gaping holes that will quickly turn into clutter bins without covers. Like the removal of switches and knobs, that was not a step forward.
Well, at almost 6’6” it’s a good indicator of interior space. For a tall family like mine, we try to show that as often as possible so fellow tall people will know if the car is right for them. As for tiny reviewers (you know, sub 6’2” 😂), I can’t really say…
The coupe gives a very sexyyy look… it’s beautiful.. I’m a fan… I’ve been holding on to my 2015 Chevy with over 240,000 miles.. I’m the only owner lol… I’m so ready… I think pahaha ❤

This is a pretty good video for so little views. I really don't like the coupe to be honest. It takes a lot of practicality from the original with almost no benefit. Not to mention it takes what I thought was a nice looking design and makes it a bit ugly.
Thanks! Yeah, coupe SUVs are a sad reality thanks to the success of the category. I prefer regular designs myself, but I thought the Genesis GV80 coupe was especially pretty compared to the German offerings. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Prefer the GV70. This design looks awesome but that trunk space... It looks smaller than the GV70. That's the whole reason I went from a car to a small SUV and with this model, it defeats the purpose.
