Here I talk about the new Oris Diver 65 with the new in house automatic watch caliber 400. This watch and movement appear to be amazing. First, the watch has a great design. Oris decided to make this watch more traditional as opposed to the bronze watches and their colorful dive watches. Next, they included the new Oris inhouse automatic watch movement that features a 120 hour power reserve! This is unbelievable for a watch to have at a price point of under $5k, let alone the price this Oris Swiss watch is being offered at.

You know I've always passed on Oris on account of finding their movements a bit lacking for the price-points, but this and the Caliber 400 models broadly definitely more than settle that score. Really impressive stuff.

This is a solid release. It's a shame that Tudor's release overshadowed them only 1 day later. This will look vintage inspired, yet modern in 20 years (when it's only just had its 2nd service!) with that white (vs. fauxtina) lume. I still can't really understand why it's not got a higher water resistance rating at that thickness and being a diver style watch, but it's still a nice watch. As far as wish lists, I would ask for a quick adjust clasp, even if it raised the price a little bit. I heard VJ Geronimo from Oris on the Whiskey&Watches podcast say this watch was supposed to come out last year, but they just had so much demand for the new movement watches that they pushed it back to now.

Been having my eye on Oris for sometime now. The Caliber 400 is definitely a game changer for them in my mind. Power reserve may not be a big thing to many, but it is a complication that I appreciate. As someone who likes to swap out watches once every couple of days, it is something that I take into account when buying a watch, and I absolutely give more value to ones that have higher reserve. There is a reason prices go up the more a mechanical watch can run without a winding.

I have been waiting for the sixty - five calibre 400. Gradually for the last few days from being released I got to like this new model a lot. On the bezel :
    1. Has 12 hour layout
    2. Biderectional
    3. 120 clicks
All this allows it to use it to measure: second time zone, elapsed minutes as the 120 clicks allow for aligning it nicely with the minute hand, elapsed hours by aligning it accurately with the hour hand. As a whole Ilike the bezel a lot due to this and due to its simpler looks

Best everday watch for the money, Oris takes features that other brands brag about like power reserve, accuracy, or anti-magnetism and doesn't brag about them, they make them industry standard.

We all know by now the 400 movement and it's variations like on the Carl Brashear (401) is great. However, this new 65 still only has 100m water resistance, a weird 12 hour bezel and it is incredibly plain looking. I love Oris, but this is a slightly unusual and uninteresting release.

Can't say I'm a fan of this model. Never been into 12 hour bezels for one, give me a timing bezel any day. With my collecting and wearing habits I've come to see power reserve as almost a con. I feel better knowing my watches aren't ticking away in the box for days and days until they run down. I'd find a swing away from power reserve and towards higher beatrate movements exciting.
Anyway, it feels like this watch doesn't know what it wants to be. Or maybe it does and I'm just not onboard.

sorry to say, but the 400 movement has its issues. I not understand why watch channels like this not know it? I experienced it myself and after 3 ‚repair attempts’ of Oris I returned it. It is the setting prob and the power reserve not necessarily being 5 days. You will find more about this on Utube.

While I agree, this watch is also going to be a lot cheaper once it hits the used market to each. That said, no interest in this one but lots of interest in the new Pelagos. Not sure who the market is for this one outside of the power reserve.

  • @freddrake2825

This is not that interesting as a water sports watch. You talk about expected standards, and a watch I want to take in the ocean will have 200m of water resistance and it will have a 60-minute bezel. If this watch shows up with those minimal specifications, and the new 400 caliber, then I would be interested in owning it. Maybe it should be marketed as a good everyday watch instead of a dive watch.

    • @DonaldPerley

The diver 65 is an homage to their dive watches from 1965. So 100m rating and no crown guard. If you want more, get the Oris Aquis at about the same price. I spend a LOT of time in the water. No scuba so my limit is around 5 meters. 100m is a 20:1 safety margin. And no I don't need a helium valve either!

  • @lousyshot1

  • @ErikL727

100m WR doesn't mean you can dive 100M, unless the waters are perfectly still and you're not moving your arm much. It means it's tested to 100m of stationary (motionless) water pressure. Currents and moving arms increase that pressure significantly. 100M WR simply means you can swim/snorkel with it, and it'll survive a dive or cannonball.

There are plenty of GMT and Field Watches that offer 100M or better specs in a thinner profile. The Aqua Terra, Rolex Explorer 2, Black Bay 36, Cartier Santos and many, many others. And then it doesn't even have a proper divers timing bezel. This looks like a miss to me. Should have billed it as a field watch or other something other than a "dive watch". And what's with those riveted bracelet that everyone hates on the Black Bay?

Have very mixed feeling about it. I absolutely love the look, but…..but, but, but….call it a diver with 100 m! Seems it is bidirectional bezel, that I love. Up to now only Rolex yacht master offers it in sea type watches. 12 hours on bezel…..i do not see point of this since is not gmt. Love the color, hate the bracelet. Doesn’t tapper down and no on fly adjustment. Caliber 400 have issues. I have Oris aquispro with caliber 400 and I am selling it. This watch is beautiful but does not know what it want to be. For me is no go, I would still go for Omega semester heritage 300 over this. More expensive but is more complete watch, even doesn’t have a date and this one have and that I like.

ISO6425 calls for 100M so it passes on that, however there is supposed to be a way of measuring the dive time up to 60 minutes and that bezel doesn.t seem a good way of doing that. On the other hand the Benrus Type I has a similar bezel and is definitely a dive watch. As the ISO standard is voluntary it really comes down to what the customer wants from their watch.

    • @drdesign6886
