Primus' "John the Fisherman" on bass - LRRG

- Another classic from the first LP, "Frizzle Fry". This tune is fairly easy to learn, but very difficult to master because it is nearly impossible to play the main riff consistently throughout th entire tune. First there is the sliding chord, then there is the constant up and down the neck. The probability of hitting a wrong note increases exponentially as the song progresses.
I ended up playing this tune 6 times in a row because I wanted to incorporate a little distorted bass in the appropriate places. Turns out that my foot is not that coordinated for working a one-pedal effects processor. As a result, the one finger that I use to play inverted 5th chords got injured from repeated dragging on the strings. Flatwounds would work better, I think.
R.I.P. This amazing bassist.
Excellent job, and great memories from "my" first Primus album.
Best cover of this song on bass! You rock!
And again..5/5.Rock on dude.great tune and great playing
Your playing and tone are great!

Nice man Sounds really good!
this sounds exactly the way its supposed to sound!

Sweet. Very sweet. Nice sound too. I ordered the Elite 5 - same color and it arrives today via FedEx. Watching this is making the wait so much more difficult. Nice job man.
When I grow up I want to be

Good job man!
Lmao! I officially love you! Awesome bass cover too!

No problem, got it all from the bass player from my own, he keeps talking about it forever.
soo keep up the good work!
you've done a great job on primus.
as a fellow bassist, I can tell everyone here that this tune is one of the most difficult bass songs there is out there. You're the man Zodiak
Schecter Stilettos are awesome. I have the Elite too - gotta love em! nice job, keep the videos coming.
Funky as dude!
I love this song and you kicked its ass!

Woah, awesome. You're really consistent all the way through, really nice.
I love your bass so much, but I don't have the money for one. I'm looking for second hands, but still haven't found one.
Also, I love the wall behind you, seems to be full of delicious items. :]
Good cover. And I like the daggers and swords on the wall! :)

This song is so goddamn hard to play and you did such a great job.
I saw that cheeky grin at 1.59 with your little tapping escapade...
Stop enjoying yourself so much!

I'm just learning this song now...not incredibly insanely hard just challenging and i really cannot believe that he sings at the same time O_o

good comeback comment. brava brava
i'm a musician to, and i like it, don't get people who don't enjoy playing, or primus:D
Just like Les, this guy had a fucking unmistakable sound.
i have a schecter too, and yes they do!
how les can play this good and singing is beyond me
thats a hard primus song to play man wow
Love that little thing at 1:57-1:58.
Haha that was sweet as dude. I don't think you made any mistakes, except for at the very end when you played the last four chords after the drum fill, you were a touch slow. But, after playing them for so long, I don't blame you lol. Oh and that bit of ripped skin at the end looked painful. Owie. xD
you r the bomb
I can't decide which is better...
The cover [very well done]
Or that shirt...
I dunno man...
Both are pretty sweet
Please, someone tell me. What is the sliding chord he's playing throughout? I can't freaking see!
I play 4-5-6. But I know thats not it.
4-5-6.
fucking nice dude. keep on rockin
Nice shirt, Swords, and taste in music.
:Gold Sticker:
Is that a Master Sword replica? Awesome bass playing.
Goddamn!
R.I.P. ROB
Sweeet!
I had the same thought
rip ;(
lmfao that was amazing that fucking grin man class ur awesome dude :P
what do you have to do to become a LRRG ??
been playin bass myself and i can easly find a camera and tape my primus songs
a also play this song and sounds pretty good dude
Keep it up
Honestly I would suggest an Epiphone. I fell in love with the T-Bird when I first started playing.
it compensates for the gauge of the strings, and it also has a more capability than the short scale basses of the old days......is that an original 90's master sword on the wall?
IS that the master sword from the legend of zelda in the backround on the wall???
about the hurting fingers heres a little secret, D'addario makes a long scale "half round" string isnt a flat round but is run through a string compressor. Smith alo makes a similar string called Smith compressor. they have more of a flatwound feel and afre really easy on the fingers especially ifv you're a hard working bassist. I have played every string under the sun and i'll nev er play anything else ever again. I affectionately call them my hot rod strings.
living room rock god
haha, yeah!
do they make a 6 string short scale bass???
You think Les has ever seen your videos?
Im sure he would proud.
i'm also going to put a cover in of Greet the sacred cow
sweet, where u from? we should play someday
are Schecter stilletos good? i found a nice once for around 400, is that worth it?
ok,dude u probabley have been playing longer then me but heres some tips:when you play the 456 on D and G strings use your index middle and ring finger, its alot easier and not tiring(WE LIKE THE SAME STUFF!!!! BASS SWORDS AND PEAVEY AMPS!)
i have that same painting of king arther being knighted ...
Holy fuck, you're friends with Munkybarz? You guys are both beasts!
@arkelz the ! at the end explains the comment
in oppening are u strumming or slapping what i play i slap but is strumming better?
dude i love playing that song great job i love that bass adn yeah!!!!! buckeyes yeah! love them yeah i sasw the awesome osu blanket yeah and awesome swords love em
Nah, it's good to here people who aren't my close friends yelling at me to buy basses.
I'll look into it, thanks.
nice swords
looked closer and its not what I thought it was... what type of Schecter are you using?
is that a schecter stilletto studio?
Youd be a perfect jam pal
are you playin this tuned a whole step down?
is that a schecter stiletto?
Or perhaps teh fact towards the end you were smiling like a mad man much the same when I do those few times I get through the song...
I think it's a three way tie
o, it reminds me of one of the original master swords they made when legend of zelda ocarina of time came out, theyre nothing special to look at but worth a bundle
Ok, it isn't you. Incidentally, I just got back from the Rush show in Detroit. Rush has 3 large screens behind them. At one point, there were 2 swords shown on each screen. That's right... 6 swords. This is weird.
Les Claypool would be proud of you
whats LRRG stand for?
haha nice job, i love this song, you rocked it.
oh and osu is the best XD
great comeback comment. also most people with half a brain would know a sword from a dagger. brava brava
les uses his 4 string on this tune
theres a tremelo for this intro
Please tell me you aren't the guy offering to trade 6 swords for one of my cymbals on Craigslist. I think I count 6 swords on the wall, and I live in Michigan. You have an OSU blanket, so you are around here somewhere. Hmmm... Either way, awesome vids. If it's you, keep the swords. I'll trade my cymbals for bass lessons.
holy shit man
this song is the best i play it to but fuck you just get cracked lol its alot of pain and i got somthing like it to
wow i had no idea this was so complicated to play it doesnt sound that hard when you hear it
why are you sweating?? did you jam to this song a few times before recording?? lol
As bad as this is going to sound.. The first time I heard this song was on Guitar Hero..
Don't worry though, I do play bass (in a band).. Awesome cover 5*
Has someone died?
