    If the fan and the radiator of your PS4 have too much dust buildup, it will lower it’s cooling efficiency. You might end up with a noisy PlayStation because the system will turn up the fans RPM to compensate for the poor airflow. Your system might even shut down suddenly in order to protect its components.
    By doing this, you will have to break the warranty seal, voiding the Sony Warranty of your console. So think wisely before starting the disassembly.
    I am using a window cleaning solution and a microfiber towel to wash the dust off,..... and a soft painting brush to brush off any dust from electronic components as well as in tight spaces like the logo engravings, the buttons and so on.
    For the disassembly I used a Torx T-9 bit and a Phillips PH0 bit, but from what i researched on the internet it appears that some console models have T-8 Torx screws instead of T-9, so it’s better to have both just to be sure.
    You can also use an air spray, an inverted vacuum cleaner that can blow air, or a compressor to blow the dust off from the components.
    I am Max from Lifehackermax and I hope this video will help you guys with your dust situation.

      Hi I took apart my ps4 slim and there was barley any dust build up and I cleaned the fan. After I put it back and put on a game not doing anything the fan went up like crazy

    • @LifeHackerMax
      @LifeHackerMax  6 місяців тому +1

      That should not have happened. Something might have gone wrong in the cleaning process. If you took apart the heatsink from the processor you have to change the thermal paste as well. If not, maybe have your console checked out by a specialist.

    Pro Tip: with the help of a $20 3D Printing Pen, you can actually reattach those little plastic “warranty seal” pieces if you’re skilled enough.
    Just a fun little bit o’ advice for my fellow DIYers who also still want to maybe use their warranty for whatever reason.

    Thankfully a now have a ps5, but I tried this out for the first time to see if I could do it, and it’s absurd how dusty mine was and how removing just the surface dust made such a big difference. It’s no longer an overpowering fan being the loudest thing in the room.

    I was just nodding along thinking, oh I can do this...
    Until you get to removing the power supply and whoa, that's a bit too scary for me. Is it worth it to just open the top and bottom cover and then clean whatever dust is visible/reachable from there?
    That's probably the limit of what I'm confident enough to do by myself.
    Or should I not do it all? :(

    • @LifeHackerMax
      @LifeHackerMax  3 роки тому +2

      I saw some videos where people just blow air into the consoles air vents without taking anything apart. I guess that if you can get rid of any dust particle inside you console would be better than leaving it there. But if you are not confident opening your console or if you are scared you could break something maybe it would be better to take your console to a professional and get it cleaned properly. Good luck!!!

    Whatever you do try not to watch 2 different videos done differently otherwise you’ll end up taking out way to many screws like I did also be extra careful with the black wire under the battery the little plug can come loose from the wire then you’ll have to macgyuver it back together like I had to I mean I wore plastic gloves and still cut my hand up good on that part I’ve got rather small hands for a guy so if you’ve got a kid you trust enough to stick their hand in might be easier

    It's a very well made video, but, in my humble opinion, it's missing one very important step that some might wnat to do and would help most of the PS4's out there to keep working cool for a couple more years. You should include removing and replacing the thermal paste on the APU, for this subjet to be complete. Other than that, great work.

      Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment! You are right, the subject is not complete without the thermal paste change. On the other hand when making this tutorial I made the conscious decision to leave out the thermal paste change because not everyone that will follow this tutorial will be able to perform the procedure and might end up ruining their console. And even though I am doing my best to add disclaimers in my videos there is still an ethical responsibility that I feel for my viewers. Also I consider the two procedures separate because as a good practice it is recommended to clean the hardware from dust every 6 months or so while the thermal paste change can be done once in 2-3 years. So it is still ok for some to do the dust cleanup and once every 6 procedures take the console to a professional for a thermal paste change. That was the logic behind me not adding the TP change in the video.

      The screws are different for each hole. There is a picture in the video that should show where each screw should go.

    Wonder if you noticed any difference. You took out a very clump of dust and what not when you took out the fan.

      Thank you for taking the time to watch my videos and your input is much appreciated 🙏🏽. And yes! The difference was noticeable! The PS4 fan gets very loud when the radiators get blocked. After cleaning the console should be silent. If the fan is still loud that is a sign that the thermal paste might need a change.

      @@LifeHackerMax thanks for the video! I live quite dusty country, i live in Caribbean and so my porch door is always open and thus lots of dust. I did clean it of with compressed air a lot in the beginning. But think I should have a peak inside see how it's doing. Still got lou2 in the box, i did run that intro and played couple minutes. Fan went crazyw with that game, but on the other hand, I've read it's kinda normal for that game and PS5 slim

    How do you break the pin without the security bit?

    • @LifeHackerMax
      @LifeHackerMax  Рік тому +3

      I tested this once to make sure it works as I have a security bit. I used a flat screwdriver and a small hammer. Press the screwdriver against the small pin and hit it with the hammer gently. Once the pin has bent, move the screwdriver on the other side trying to bend the pin in another direction. Do this a few times and eventually the pin will break. I have to say it wasn’t very easy. Good luck!🍀

      @@shrichandgangwani7920 I would recommend getting the right tool for the job. But if you are a crafty person, It does work to break the little pin in the middle of the screw.

    Would it damage the storage.. Or reset the whole console... Scared to unplug all the connectors inside it.

    • @LifeHackerMax
      @LifeHackerMax  2 роки тому

      The main power socket should be disconnected first. As long as you don’t damage the ribbons, wires when connecting/disconnecting them, you should be ok. All the information is stored in a hard drive like the one you have in your Laptop 💻. The information on the storage device will not be harmed by unplugging the connectors. 👍🏼 Good Luck! Follow the video and you should be fine.

    • @LifeHackerMax
      @LifeHackerMax  2 роки тому

      Changing the thermal paste is needed from time to time but not as often as cleaning the console from dust. My video only covers the fan and radiator cleaning from dust which should be done more regularly in my opinion and needs less knowledge and skill.

    I’ll give it to PlayStation they built a resilient machine. Mine sounded like a jet engine. It would shut down randomly. I dropped it and my video screen looked like a bad acid trip but it slowly repaired itself and she’s still going.
