    my friend does this once or twice a year flying around the world. what travel hackers dont ever tell you is that you have to sleep in airports if connecting (sometimes long hours), have terrible departure/arrival times and most of all you have to spend 3-5k in a few months to qualify. you really have to manage your credit card payments too. i know this is a nice story but we should tell the whole story.

      Not true, if you are part of a loyalty program or even have certain credit cards you can have free lounge access. Some programs even give you free accommodations. Some countries have long layover programs where you can stay at a 4 star hotel for 20$. There are many ways to earn free hotel night awards if you have a very long layover. 3-5k a month is not needed to earn these awards or points. Its true that the game is pay to win but 3-5k is definitely not needed. There are also ways to manufacture your spend so you don't actually buy anything and attain points by cashing your spend into your bank account. You have no idea how many loopholes there are in this game. This guy obviously won't tell his methods. Even though i know a few methods to game the system well, i bet this guys in a totally different level.

  • @gamiezion

    claiming it was free is kinda misleading, since he had to have lunch and dinner at places. that doesn't make it free, since you have to be able to afford to eat out AT LEAST 3 times to get someplace near where you are.

    • @roberttaylor8906
      @roberttaylor8906 6 років тому +6

      gamiezion if you can't afford to eat out 3 times good luck getting approved for 20 something credit cards, it sounds like one would have to have very low income and/or poor money management skills, and in either case, especially the latter, this is probably not the best hobby. The idea is that you aren't spending any money that you wouldn't otherwise be spending, and I guarantee eating out is not his go-to point earner. Most of his points are earned from sign up offers, but you do need to be able to allocate 3-5k in expenses over a 3 month period, and for it to make sense it should be money that you're going to spend regardless. So for the right person in the right situation it makes sense.

    For those of you complaining about how much he has to spend what you aren't taking into consideration is what I do: everything that I would normally pay cash for or use my debit card I instead use one of my credit cards that earn me miles. Then I pay them off in full each month. So it works out the same cost but with one extra little step I earn massive points. I even pay my mortgage with a credit card and my car payment and my car insurance and my gas my groceries my utility bills my phone EVERYTHING lol
    It adds up to thousands of dollars each and every month and man do I rack up the miles lol

    • @ang5035
      @ang5035 5 років тому

      but now do you explain having over 25 credit cards many of them require you to spend $3,000 or more in the first 3 months. That means this only works if you have that much expenses every month. If you are trying to be frugal, then, credit cards with rewards aren't as good of a deal...

      Yeah he collects point by spending money, but you earn the most points with the sign up bonus. That's why he has so many cards. I'm doing it and I'm about to fly out to Japan for free. It does work. You just have to know what you're doing.

    • @TheNicholasJung
      @TheNicholasJung 9 років тому +1

      Anthony Purington But isn't a very short term solution? or do you cancel and reapply for the cards on a regular basis? Or is there really so many different cards that you can just continue and continue signing up for new ones?

    • @ayo__ayo
      @ayo__ayo 9 років тому +3

      Nicholas Jung Yeah, there's a lot of cards out there to apply for. You used to be able to cancel the card and reapply, but now when you do that, you don't get the application bonus (getting 40k points after spending xyz amount within a time frame). I don't cancel my cards (at least not yet) because it helps my credit score.

      @alexeialeksandr7606 5 років тому +3

      As a person who earns miles and actually read the terms and conditions, most of the time you just have to dine or shop at a specific place without coupons or discounts. For example: I can choose to earn 200 miles for a purchase or get a $20 discount. And if you do it right, the points stack quickly. I've been earning points for 3 months and I have almost 8000 points. Free tickets start between 10 and 30 thousand.

    • @jeff_t_matsuda
      @jeff_t_matsuda 5 років тому +8

      It's good as long as you don't spend on things that you normally wouldn't spend on. Buying three meals every week just to get points is ridiculous, unless your work is paying. Also, as long as you're in good enough financial shape to pay in full and never to carry a balance. Then it's free money. Check out the Ask Sebby channel.

      @alexeialeksandr7606 5 років тому +1

      @@jy006m united and delta have this option, although I don't know how many miles for each restaurant. Go to the main page and look for ways to earn miles. You have to register the card for dining miles as well as shopping. And remember, you get bonus miles sometimes, like now on the shopping site. I just signed up for united miles 2 months ago and already have 2000 miles without flying.

  • @Determination212
    @Determination212 7 років тому +22

    Forgive me but this seems to be a bit flawed. First he has to open up a credit card. Then you have to spend a couple thousand dollars in a couple months in order to get those 40,000 plus bonus points. Then with all those cards you will need to use them strategically. The problem is that after the major bonus, it might not be worth holding on to that card especially if it offers an annual fee. If you cancel out the card, how would you go about it? The problem is that it's a ding to your credit score and it hurts your reputation with the credit card company. I have heard of stories of banks banning members who frequently churn credit cards. Also that 170 points at the Oasis Cafe is probably worth about $1.70 to $3.40. He's not gaining much of a sale in savings for dining there. The question that I would ask is how can you keep churning credit cards getting the maximum bonuses, especially if your on a limited income? Wouldn't you run out of money? If you have 25 credit cards and got the bonuses for all of them, wouldn't he have had to spend at least 50,000 dollars to get all those bonuses. This assumes that each card has a 2,000 dollar spend requirement within the first couple of months in order to get the maximum bonus.

    • @ang5035
      @ang5035 5 років тому +2

      exactly - if he is keeping all his credit cards over a year period, he will be paying anywhere from $50-$400 on credit card fees every year - over $1,000 in fees easily. So is it really worth it?

      A Ng so ignorant if you pay it off in full before the bill is due you pay no fees

    • @lostkid3156
      @lostkid3156 4 роки тому

      You collect credit cards overtime; you don't apply for them all at once. Hard inquiries only stay on your report for 2 years only. You only spend your minimum spend for bonus on things you regularly spend on: groceries, gas etc. One trick to quickly getting your minimum spend is to apply for credit cards when you expect a big purchase (eg: new computer for school, appliances, & electronics). Again, only spend it on things you actually need and can afford to pay full every month. You don't have to pay any fees if you pay them in full. If you can't afford it right now, save for it and use credit card to earn points and pay them immediately. People think credit cards are scary but actually they are not if you have self-control to leverage credits available to you. Regarding annual fees, if you read terms for your card you should be able to see some perks that could "return" your annual fee (eg: $100 airline credit, 2x/3x/4x points for xyz purchases)

    Yes it works. What I do is use credit cards for all personal and company spendings. Groceries, gas pump, restaurants, bill pay (phone, electric, etc). Anything that can be charged is charged. Use less cash transactions and more on credit card.
    When the bill comes, pay all balance before due dates therefore every purchases/transactions is interest free.
    Repeat every month, miles will stack up. I have 17 platinum and world credit cards plus a few from friends and family that does not use much of their credits cards but would like to get free miles for their yearly vacation. Every business owners should do this.

    for those people that don't get it, you either have bad credit or no credit. Let me break it down for you.
    Remember when Subway Sandwich gave you a punch card and your 10th sandwich was free... its like that.
    This is typical awards program for using the credit card that is associated with a frequent flyer program.
    You have to have above average credit score to qualify. And if you have good credit these cards usually have no annual fee. Annual fee cards are for people with average to below average credit.
    ANYWAY, you just use the card to pay your rent, car payment, utilities, groceries/food, etc. So if you don't live at home with mom and actually have to pay rent and bills your monthly obligations can easily add up to $3000-4000 a month. Once you spend $3000 in the first 90 days of receiving your card you get 25,000 miles on American Airlines, which in many cases will get you a FREE domestic flight. If you own a small business you might have business expenses of $10,000 monthly. You have to pay your bills regardless, so just use your card and get the miles rather than paying with auto-debit from your checking account. The credit card company is counting on a certain percentage of people not paying the full balance each month and then making THEIR money from the interest rate.
    Its not that complicated . . . If you're a working class person living paycheck to paycheck with little or no credit you may not understand how this works because you are use to paying your rent/bills with a money order or debit card or check.
    There is no 'hack' , its just taking advantage of what is being offered.

    credit reporting agencies look at those card at potential debt... so they look at them as maxed out even if you have nothing on them... so having a lot of cards is NOT a great idea.

      +ndspeedster No they don't, that's not how credit score works. www.bankrate.com/finance/credit/closing-credit-card-good-or-bad.aspx
      Score is based on utilization rate, not potential debt.

      Benjamin M. I was looking at flight from the Midwest to Las Vegas 9 months ago and it was $400, 6 months later, 2 months before my departure date it was only $200. Flights are cheaper closer to the departure date especially one Tuesdays. Seats are the cheapest a month before the flight because they want fill empty seats.

    You have to include annual fee... Most airline cards dont waive the first year free. Plus using 40k miles is not considered free -- it's worth about $400 give or take how you use it. Everything has a cost, this isn't a travel hack cause it isn't free.

    so if a Delta ticket is let's say 248.00 round trip is it 1 mile per dollar spent or do you get 3 or 4 miles per dollar spent
    on Delta's loyality program?
