I have orange pomanders from my grandmother that are over 100 years old! There’s no orange left (the cloves are held together by magic) and they smell heavenly.

    Hello Laura and Susan,
Every time you come together, a little bit of magic transpires. It reminds me of the quote by A. A. Milne:
“We didn’t realise we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun”.

Such a lovely time making memories with your Mum and children. My Mother passed away in June and seeing videos like this is so bitter sweet. Remembering our christmas craft days just like yours is precious but knowing they are no more is hard. I'd love to see a Christmas tree inside the cut flower garden Shed I think it will finish it off nicely!!!❤❤❤❤ I've been following you for a few years from across the pond in Wales UK and love everything you do!🥰

Thanks for sharing another festive holiday how-to with us. Your mom is a treasure box of traditional DIY's, sweetly passing on the traditions to her grandkids. She's giving me my own memories, encouraging me to make & give my own pomanders to others. Benjamin always adds his own expertise & Samantha is a fast learner. Such fun! BTW, cloves can be bought in bulk on Amazon.

I was asking my 87 yr old dad about Christmas from his childhood. He always mentions oranges. I asked if they were rare. He said well, they are most available at Christmas time. I never realized that and explains why they are always in fruit baskets and used for decorations.

It’s called sleet that’s what the little itty-bitty snow balls looks like Sleet!
Sleet is type of precipitation distinct from snow, hail, and freezing rain. It forms under certain weather conditions, when a temperature inversion causes snow to melt, then refreeze.

We made these years ago when my mom was a Boy Scout Den Mother. It was one of the best crafts I remember making because it was fun and smelled so wonderful. We put tulle netting around them and tied them with a ribbon so they could be hung up in closets and on door handles. They made great, inexpensive gifts. The cloves acted as moth repellents, too, which was great since we still had coats made of 100% wool. And you are right! They lasted for a long time. Eventually the oranges would shrink down, and some of the cloves would fall out. Since we had covered them in the netting, the cloves were contained within the pomanders. This was such a lovely video that brought back many happy memories to me.

Your copper tray is so beautiful (all of my favorite colors!) and I bet it smells amazing with all of the spice, citrus, pine and eucalyptus perfuming the kitchen♡ Every year I help a friend decorate her home for Christmas. We always hang a fresh Noble Fir wreath in her informal dining room. She leaves it up through February and sometimes well into March with very minimal shedding. Noble is an incredible pine to use! Thank you, Laura and Susan for helping kick start my Christmas spirit!♡

We used to make these every year as children for a Christingle service. We put a cross of ribbon in red on them that also became a hanging loop. We would then put the cloves in the segments with enough gap to let the orange dry & shrink. You then hang them in your wardrobe.

This was an awesome video. Benjamin is so grown. He is lovely to watch. Samantha, she’s sweet and feisty. Mom is so creative. Especially like her budget friendly ideas becsuse stuff is so costly. At the holidays when you are trying to chose budget for decor versus Christmas meal for 20 family members. Good has got so expensive.
