- Join us as we walk you through a load and unload of a truck camper from the bed of a pickup truck (myself and Kent on the camera - thanks Kent!) . This video shows a Scout Kenai Camper on an F150. How to install and remove from your truck (VIDEO SHOWS BOTH!! :) ) With snippets from the owners manual. Ensure you are on a flat, level and firm surface before loading or unloading. #new #youtube
Unlock your ratchets and you can unhook your straps before unloading. Disconnect your 7 way and get a decent space under the camper for clearance by raising the jacks about 3" - 4"at a time while they have weight on them. You shouldn't need much more than an inch or two under the camper before driving out. Do the opposite for install! My camper was rubbing my box a bit so I laid a 2 x 4" down on it side at the front base of the camper. I should have showed this but it creates a "gap" so the camper does not touch the truck box. All the "creaking" noise is gone :)
I added some air to my air bags after noticing a bit of squat. You can check out the upgrades I did to prep my own truck here:

I'll need to show the "removable jack" option in another video but they are super easy to install / remove. Each jacks has 2 pins. Once the pins are removed, the jacks can be easily installed or removed. Sorry for not showing that here! p.s I forgot my mic for this video :(
Thanks for watching! Ryan Trudgian #trudgeesbugout
Just a basic 18/20V power drill?
Hey Kaila! I would go with a hammer / driver or an impact drill . A little more money but they have more torque ! Best - Ryan
I use torquelifts to tie my camper down. Do you like the ratchet straps system? It seems like it would stress those tie downs pretty good.
Right on! The torklifts are awesome they actually just came out with a new system for the Scouts. Bed anchors (rated at 2000lbs each) in the bed and torklifts . I'll have a video of that soon if it's not in my 2025 pop up video. BUT I've used the ratchets and straps from Scout in my 2nd Scout and done 10+ states with them. Once they "break in" (couple trips) they are rock solid. When they are new I check them every few hours but they work amazing . Super easy to use but the new Torklift stuff and old is legit ! The springs they use inside make them ride very well.
@@trudgeesbugout cool. It’s nice having everything tucked in the bed. People don’t realize how much more of an investment. The torklift system is a bit expensive and fiddly to install.
Pretty solid though.
@@tjabaley agreed! The ones that come included on the Scouts is what I have been using for years and never had any issues
Love the simplicity of the scout design. Elegant. They put some thought into the overall package.
@@tjabaley agreed having the components being simple and easy to use outside or multi purpose is awesome
Scout kenai fit in f150 6.5 box ? With air bags or rubber spacers ? Probly can close tailgate ? Don't know wat size that box is ?
The Kenai will fit on 6.5' beds or longer :) I have added an extra leaf spring and air bags to my own truck . I recommend starting with at least air bags. My first pick is never rubber spacers because IF the camper still "squats" , you can't correct it. The Kenai is 92 1/4" long. My own F150 has a 6.5' bed. Let me know if you have any other questions or you can reach out to sales@scoutcampers.com
Hi, thanks for the informative video. What are the specs on your F-150, year make 4WD etc? Looking at a Kenai and looking to purchase a F-150 but not sure it can handle the weight.
Hey! My f150 is 2014 6.5' 5.0L .. it's a 4wd .. there are many f150s with a 2000lb + payload. If you are looking to add a tent I might recommend going to a 3/4 or 1 ton as they would handle a roof top tent better ! Or an Olympic with a tent on F150 . Let me know if you have questions! The Scout team can be reached at sales@scoutcampers.com
Is your F150 a 5.5 or 6.5 bed? What's your payload rating for that truck? Thanks!
Hey Andrew, I have a 6.5' bed ! I removed my tail gate , spare tire , and side steps to gain 300+ lbs of payload bringing in under 2000lbs. Many F150 are now over 2000lbs . The Kenai requires a 6.5' or longer . Do you have an f150?
Thanks for this video! Are the jacks removable? I would prefer to not bring them with me everywhere I go and only use them to store the camper at home when not in use.
They are removable! They are about 130lbs as well. Taking them off for travel gets your travel weight down a bit . I only use them for putting the camper on or off my truck and then store them in my garage :)
How can you move the camper around once unload it from the truck? Thank you
You could lower the camper onto a camper dolly which would allow you to move it .. if you lower it on the jacks to ground , you can't really move it
If you remove the camper for a long period of time, is it best to lower the legs down?
Correct. When storing the camper on the jacks, the camper should be brought down close to the ground 👍
Thanks for the video. I never knew this could be done so easily.
No problem! Time to upgrade to a Scout :)
Nicely done and thank you!
Thanks for watching and the kind words!
