I'm 27 now, when I was 15 my first car was a 1989 Lincoln Towncar. It had almost 500,000 miles. Original engine, and original transmission. I was ecstatic when I got it. It cost 1000 dollars. It was in immaculate shape, I did have issues with the radiator, but that was all. I dream of owning another one some day
Wow! That's great to know! I've just over about 100,000 miles on my Town Car and I expect it to get 500,000 miles and higher! I'm almost 27 myself by July. You were ahead of the game buying your first car at only 15! That was something I could only DREAM of doing; my mom didn't even want me to get my driver's license until I was over 18! I wanted this car since I was about age 8 or 9 would count down the months and years until I expected to go for a driver's license at 16. Why don't you have your Town Car anymore?
I remember my mom owning one of these cars in 89. It was burgundy with burgundy leather interior and even though I was a kid I remember thinking it was one of the most beautiful cars I’d ever seen. Thanks for taking me back!
Young Man, you should be proud and so should your parents specially your Pops. Because you have some Pimp in you, thats a not good but great thing. I'm proud of my son for the same
I used to drive one of these my senior year of high school in in 1989. It was brand new. I drove it for the Hilton Hotel in Short Hills New Jersey to Newark International Airport to pick up people and bring them to the hotel. It was brand new, mint, burgundy color. It was very much like floating on a cloud down the road. I am lucky to have driven it. Very, very, very much a pimp boat.
That's awesome! I wish I could've driven one of these when they were brand new. Even driving a 2011 Town Car brand new before they were discontinued would have been nice, too. I know it felt great with that air ride suspension. Thanks for sharing your story! 😎💯
You are an inspiration to me. I have the same car, base model, that was given to me years ago by one of my parishioners. It's sitting in my garage and I'm going to get her on the road again this summer! By the way, you have a "babe magnet".
Hey, I'm glad to hear it. I love this car! This is a great gift. I say go for it. I know you'll have great time with your car! Thanks for your comment!
My grandparents had an '89 Town Car back in the day. I always loved that car, they even took me with them to the dealer to pick it up because they knew I loved the big luxury cars. My family of four took a lot of trips in in with them (I always got to ride up front with them). I still remember the way it bounced on the country roads. I really miss cars like this, it is a shame you can't buy anything new like this today. Oh the "Good Old Days".
Wow! That's awesome! I wish I could've been just a few years older to experience these cars brand new. I wish I had family or friends that bought a Town Car that I could've experienced them get it off the dealership brand new. Those cars very roomy and had good air suspension. They don't make anything like this anymore. But I guess I'm pretty fortunate in my case as I got my car in like-new condition which is as close to new as it gets.
Well, actually they bought it used in '93 but it only had like 30,000 miles on it and they bought it at the Lincoln-Mercury dealer. They traded it in 2000 for a '99 Town Car but I always liked the '89 a lot better. I was never a huge fan of the last generation. My grandparents are still alive and well and now in their late 70s. Oddly enough today they drive Honda mini-vans. A lot of older people do like the mini-vans because they have the roominess of the big cars of the past and they are easy to get in and out of. I wish they still bought American though. Back in 2010 I considered buying a new Town Car and test-drove one but was not really impressed with the suspension and really didn't think it was worth $50K. I thought my 2005 Park Avenue was a lot smoother even though it was FWD and about 500 lbs lighter, plus it had nice options like a sunroof and park sensors that weren't available on the Town Car in it's last years. I have been a big Buick fan for about a decade but am not very fond of the direction they are going, my next car may very well be a Lincoln (probably an MKT or Navigator). Nobody makes a decent car anymore so I guess SUVs it will be.
Oh I see. Glad to hear your grandparents are still alive. Sad to hear they traded it in. I guess no one really realized how truly great those cars were until they see what we call cars now. I think sadly your grandparents like many others their age have lost faith in the American brands and have fallen to the options of foreign cars. Not their fault. Ever imports came to the USA in the mid-late 1980s, they have taken over the market and stolen the hearts of many. My family who once owned cars from the Big Three, (Ford, Chrysler, GM) now have Huyndais. I thought the Town Cars had parking sensors and sunroof. My 2006 model had parking sensors but I don't think the sunroof was available on Town Cars in later years. I always liked the 2003-2011 Town Car but never liked the 1998-2002 models. They looked too bubbly and rounded for a Lincoln in my opinion. Although still aerodynamic, the 2003-2011 had a few more defined angles, including the grille, front lights, taillights, and the re-addition of the hood ornament. I wanted a 2011 Town Car, myself too, as that would be the newest of the last of the great American luxury sedan. But so many have talked me out of getting a 2011 as they said it had the fewest features and wasn't as high quality. I heard 2003-2007 Town Cars were the best third generation models with still really great suspension, trim levels, color options, and other features. This could be due to the fact when the historic Wixom, MI plant closed in 2007 and Ford moved production of the Panther Platform to Canada, the craftsmanship diminished. I liked Buick myself. But after the Roadmaster was discontinued, I kind of lost interest myself in the brand. I'm not liking the direction Buick is going either; not liking Lincoln's direction or any luxury car brand's direction for that matter. Amazingly, Buick is doing really well with sales compared to my beloved Lincoln brand. More young people are buying Buick because of the new import-like styles. Cars are too small and are all bubbly looking. Not worth the money. They are all look starting to look like Hondas. You're right. No one makes a decent car anymore. MKTs look weird to me. But at least large SUVs exist and still don't look too ugly so, I'll be doing like you and will be getting a Navigator when all else fails.
I hope the transmission repairs are going well, and you are bless with many more miles of road trips. That car is definitely worth repairing. They really don't make cars like that anymore. A true American automotive masterpiece indeed. I love how the large American land yachts ride. When I was a kid, my uncle Frank had a 1990 Cadillac Brougham with the botton style leather interior, digital speedometer and cluster which I thought was very amazing at the time, had the 5.7L v8, and that car had no problem towing his camper, we loved hanging out roasting marshmallows and singing kumbaya. That was in the late 90s or early 2000s but seeing these big American cars on the road even today, takes me back to a simpler place and time. Thank you for sharing your wonderful car.
Thank you for sharing your great experience! I love these cars and classic cars are definitely worth keeping! I rather fix up an older car than pay to buy a new one. I love Cadillac Fleetwood Broughams, also! Land yatchs are my absolute favorite!
Lucas Hahn Thanks! Yes, so true! They don't make these like they used to any more. I will do my best to keep it nice! I'm making more videos of it soon.
OMG WHAT A BEAUTY! I'm with you, these were the most elegant cars on the road. I owned the same year car with landau roof (1/2 vinyl with wide chrome bar wrapped around roof) in "desert sand" colour from 92-97. So lux, so well-equipped, every feature comfort imaginable, right? This thing road so quiet and smooth - they just don't build them like this anymore. If an automaker decided to create a land boat, all the goodies, with today's modernity at a good price... I am certain they'd sell a lot. The 5 liter, 8 cylinder engine will move it too. Congratulations and I hope you get lots of enjoyment for years to come. At the price you paid? What do you have to lose.
Thanks! The car you had sounded like a beautiful style! I can imagine it! I have had my Town Car for nearly 5 years now. I never get tired of it and will keep it for life! The only thing I'd trade this car for would be an all-black 1989 Town Car with black or tan leather interior! I agree. If Lincoln or Cadillac would make another car like this, it'd sell very well! I'm very disappointed that American luxury car companies feel as though full-size vehicles are dead. Look at the Rolls-Royce Phantom! If Lincoln made something that looked like that for $70-$100K, it would sell very well! Nothing said class like a Lincoln Town Car or even Cadillac Deville Brougham.
Hey, thanks for checking out my video! I honestly didn't expect this video to get so many views and likes. It's the most viewed video on my page and it's still getting a lot of activity now from others now. But I love this car and still have it! It runs great!
@@CharlesSmith1 Take care of her and she will take care of you. Nice to see someone young appreciate such a beautiful peace of American Automobile History :)
@@TheCarterHour Thank you! I definitely have been taking care of this car! Its been five good years with this beautiful car! I'm proud to be a young owner of this classic vehicle!
I had a 89 Town Car. Loved it!! My Dad drove only Lincolns. It was plagued with brake problems until I took it a little alley shop and never had a problem again.. Those cars are bulit to last if you take care them, they will take care of you!!!!
+Samuel Jonathan Ray Nice. How long did you have your Town Car? And what happened to it? Yes, I agree that those cars are built to last. Lincoln carried the great reputation of the Town Car's reliability even until it's end in 2011. I bought a 2006 Town Car last year and it has 336,000 miles. Still runs. But that's the motto I live by: If you take care of your car, it will take care of you. Most importantly, keep up the oil changes regularly and your car will last very long.
@@CharlesSmith1 around 7 years, and it was always a good car other than the alternators kept going, they had a crappy connector in 89, eventually replaced it with a modified GM unit lol I'm liking the Brougham a lot though, it's a cool ride ^^
I love how Town Cars are also very quiet when you drive them. In Texas, surrounded by loud trucks and custom Mustangs I feel like a princess in my Town Car. I don't race around in it, I just cruuuuuuse...
Thank you! Yes, I love Lincoln! Even more than Cadillac. My favorite Lincoln of all time is the 1961-66 Continentals. I'd like to have one someday. Now, in addition to my 1989 Town Car, I have a 2011 Lincoln Town Car now to keep my '89 in mint shape. In my opinion, I think the 2011 Town Car was the last real classy Lincoln ever made.
Thank you! Yes, I still have this car and I love it! I plan on keeping it the rest of my life! In fact, I bought another car, a 2011 Lincoln Town Car as a daily driver to keep my 1989 model in mint condition.
Great choice for a first car I had the same year and loved it mine was white with a blue interior and I remember one night I was driving home and the police had a dwi check on a major highway they were pulling everyone over they saw me and waved me on .This car driving was like you were going down the road sitting on your most comfortable living room sofa ! I am looking to but another one and go on ebay like you did I would recommend one to everyone they drive great and I wish you could still buy a car like this but it would cost about 60-70 thousand dollars this car was way ahead of it’s time and I would put it up against any Cadillac Mercedes anything foreign or domestic I was surprised to find out the engine was only 150 horsepower it felt like it was double that maybe because of the higher torque but anyway good luck with your car hope it gives you years of good service take care.
Wow! Thank you for sharing your story. And I see great minds think alike! I agree with every word you said! I love these cars very much. I hope you can find one in great condition on eBay. They're getting harder and harder to find and the prices are getting higher. Best wishes on your search and thanks again for your comments on my videos.
+Charles Smith I finally went and did it. I found an Exact duplicate of the 88 Lincoln Town car i used to own, and i bought it. It is at my Mechanic's right now getting the Transmission fixed, it had some issues but nothing that scared me away from it. hahah you inspired me to get it back.
Hey that's wonderful! I'm happy to hear! It's wonderful when you can finally have the vehicle that you want. How much did you get it for and how many miles does it have?
73000 ORIGINAL miles (i know unheard of) 1988 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series with all the options. I paid $3500 for it. The Body is perfect, engine perfect, trans needs a little work however. It has One little fog in the clear coat on the roof that will be buffed out and re-sprayed with clear soon. Only one crack in the Armrest, other than that, flawless. ONE OWNER!
James Back That's awesome! I wish I had that model. Yours is better than mines becuase of the lower mileage, leather and clear coat. I'm glad you got such a great model at such a reasonable price! 👌
It's in the shop right now, my mechanic won't let ANYONE touch it but him, he said it's such a pleasure when a REAL car like this comes in to his shop, he wants to do it himself. haha Even he is super impressed with the condition it's in.
Love the video ! I have a 1995 lincoln Towncar that i picked up last year. It was in very good shape, and i was afraid of ruining the inside. So I went and bought its sister, a 1995 Ford Crown victoria, almost the same car, built on the same platform pretty much. And use it as my work car, and keeps the miles off my Lincoln. I hope to see you post more videos of your car! Keep it up!
+Jay Smart Wow! Smart choice! I see you've lived up to your name! Great minds think alike! I did the same thing. At first I was going to make my 1989 Town Car a daily driver, but when I realized how much great shape it was in (nearly flawless except the antenna and trunk key lock), with low mileage and got so many compliments from everyone young and old, I didn't want to drive it much, which wasn't easy to avoid doing as I love this car. I bought a 2006 Lincoln Town Car (there are many more of the third generations left) to be my daily driver to take the wear and tear of and miles off this 1989. Thanks! I'm glad you like the video.👌
Awesome! You should make a video of your new town car, even if it is just a daily. Also if you instagram, there are tons of Lincoln Towncar, and pantherbody pages you should check out!
+Jay Smart Yes, I am apart of some of those pages. I'm currently a part of the @grandmarquisfansandowners as well as a @towncarsociety page. You can find me on Instagram at @charles_smith
Beautiful Lincoln!!! This was always my favorite of the Town Cars and clearly one of the BEST cars of the 80's. And your particular model is definitely one worth keeping and preserving. And DO NOT let anyone smoke inside!!! Just maintain and care for it like they all should be.
Yes, I agree! Thank you! I will do my very best to keep it clean inside and out. Yes, I will not let anyone smoke in it. I wouldn't let anyone smoke in my home either. My car and home started out smoke-free, and it will continue smoke free. :)
Charles Smith Excellent. Glad to hear. It's nice to see an older Lincoln Town Car like yours in nice shape and well kept. It breaks my heart to see any of them being abused and used as trucks. I'm not a big fan of the 80's whatsoever but I do have a few picks and the Lincoln Town Car is one of them. :)
Thanks so much! That means a lot to me! I love to see others express the same appreciation for these fine automobile as I do. This is my favorite car of the 1980s! I'm more of a 1960s and 1970s, too!
Charles Smith Your very welcome. Lincoln's have always had a great presence and strong styling all through the years. Ever since the first Lincoln Continental was introduced back in 1939, Lincoln has always created a fresh new body style at the beginning of each decade. Lincoln and Cadillac both are my top favorite automotive brands and both brands were created by the same man Mr. Henry Leland of Detroit MI. And yes I do have family that were and currently are auto workers for both GM and Ford. One of my uncle's worked at the Ford Wixom plant exactly where your Town Car was assembled.
Yes, I agree. Lincoln and Cadillac are my favorite brands too. I like the two big domestic luxury automobiles better than the foreign. Not being nationalistic or anything, but they were always the biggest cars around in the world and unique styling! Sadly they get heavily overshadowed by brands like BMW and Mercedes. They are nice but I don't see how they are truly special. I think they are overrated and that you can still find great value in Lincoln and Cadillac. And yes, there wouldn't be Cadillac without Henry Ford, since Henry Leland worked under his company and when he quit, formed Cadillac. Ironically, Ford bought Lincoln in 1922. It's amazing how Lincoln and Cadillac are rivals today yet they both had humble beginnings through the same individual in the past. And wow, that's a great thing to be proud of; having family that are auto workers! My grandpa was an auto worker for Ford and Chrysler in the 1950s and 1960s. But unfortunately, none of my family in modern times currently have any interest in the automotive field like I do. I wish the historic Wixom Plant still existed.
My car is a 1990 Lincoln Town Car. My grandpa had a 93’ and his car was so cool to me! These cars are underrated and overlooked and some people find them ugly, but who cares.
Nice! I agree with what you said. I don't care if people don't like these cars, either. They're great cars that people don't appreciate enough. I love them!
The '88/'89 Town Car is also one of my favorites, I too like it's squarish styling, they changed the style on the '90 Town Car which didn't do it for me. They sure don't make cars like this anymore.
Yes, the 1980s Town Car models is of my favorites too! The 1989 model is my favorite because of the colored amber turn signals and the satin black grille. It's only available on 1989 models. I'm not a fan of the early 1990s Town Car models. To soft. The square styling is always my favorite.
my 94 fleetwood brougham has the electrochromic mirror and i absolutely love it. makes that harsh white headlight light a calmer green. i'm a cadillac guy but love those old townies.
Hey thanks! Yes, it is cool! I used to be an all-Lincoln guy, but as of last year, I've become a lover of old Cadillacs too! My new favorite is the 1993-96 Fleetwood! One of my IG followers got me hooked on Fleetwoods and Buick Roadmasters and now I want a Cadillac Fleetwood along with my Town Car. 👌
Awesome man, you've inspired me to pursue my dream of owning a caprice as my first car, despite friends saying that they're old and are gonna break down all the time.
Hey thanks! Glad to hear it! Yes, go for it! Do what's best for you! Don't get something just because others says so. Old cars are great and fun to drive! Just find one in great condition with all the car facts and you will enjoy driving it!
Wow! I know that was nice! I've seen the modern third generation Town Cars with the tables, but haven't seen the first generation Town Cars like that before. I know they were beautiful inside!
Very nice car, I think that it's great to see someone from a younger generation (like yourself) find the true beauty of the older american cars. I personally have a 1987 Town car that I have restored and would never dream of getting rid of it. Take care of that beautiful Town Car.
+wtbfemale Thank you. I don't think I can ever part with this car either. I'm so fortunate to have one like this already restored for only $2,800. I drive a 2006 Town Car as well, to take the wear and tear off my mint condition.1989 model but I as much reliable as both are, I must say, 1989 model is always more of a joy for me to drive. I like the styling. It's very classy and elegant, like a Rolls-Royce car. The seats are very soft in the '80s model too.
You offer a detailed tour. I have a 1988 and a 1989 Town Car and both have bad transmissions. I have an appointment to take the 1988 to an authorized shop for Jasper factory rebuilt transmission. It's gong to be a big expense but both the cars are excellent and I really enjoy driving these cars. I was told that because my cars sat for years by the time I bought them the rubber transmission parts had dried out. Also, parts are becoming obsolete. I found a fuel sending unit on ebay and quickly bought it. I have learned these cars do not like ethanol so always use non-ehtanol fuel when possible. Also the air conditioner condenser is becoming obsolete. I'm thinking difficulty locating parts is a reason so many of these cars are showing up for sale right now. I've been driving vintage luxury cars my whole adult life so I'm not so inclined to give up easily but I also know if you use your classic car as a daily driver you will likely need more than one car. I have 7 vintage daily drivers and can never have them all running at the same time.
Thank you! I appreciate your compliments. I, too recently am starting to have transmission issues. I can still drive the car but when I drive over 50MPH, it starts feeling like there's resistance in going to a higher speed. I'll get it fixed eventually. It won't be cheap. I think these cars are definitely worth saving. Yes, I agree that parts are becoming harder to find in this kind of car, as in any classic car. Wow! 7 vintage daily drivers? That's awesome!
I'm 28, and I have a Crown Victoria of that same year as my first car in 2012 as my high school graduation gift for only $500, so I instead have a related Panther vehicle with the same motor. Had only just over 100k mileage. But, nice old school Town Car!
Nice! I'm the same age as you are! I graduated in 2011; sadly the last year of these beautiful Panther Platform cars. 100K miles are nothing for these Panther cars! They're work horses! 100K is very low mileage for a vehicle that's over 30 years old! There are many newer Town Cars with more miles than that! Thank you for your compliment on my car!
I have a friend who has a 1989 Lincoln Town Car in maroon red with full carriage roof. He has had it since new and he and his wife like to take it to football games for tailgate parties.
@@CharlesSmith1 most people desire the leather seats but as you live in the Philadelphia area trust me that leather is very cold in the winter time when you don't have heated seats the velour is better and in the summer as well when it's very hot and sticky. so don't feel too badly if you don't have leather is nice in the spring and fall but a little tough in the summer and winter months..... of course your second car could be a signature series with leather seats
Haha! Everyone says that about leather being cold in the winter! 😂😂😂 That's not a problem for me! I'd just put extra layers of cloth or something warm in the seat. The real reason leather is better to me is its easier to clean. And to me having seats that are easier to clean will always mean more than seats being colder with leather. I have a Bissell steam cleaner machine and there are still pieces of debris and dust in the cloth seats that's hard to clean. The funny thing is no one mentions that the leather seats are worse in the summer. I got a fix for that, I added a remote starter for this car. The car is warmed up for me in the winter and cooled off in the summer! 😏 @@acts2211
Dude I work on cars and I am so jealous right now. Wish I had this. When I was a kid I said the same thing but it never happened for me but that's OK I'm happy for you dude. Nice.
+deno spyridon Thanks so much! I had a small budding interest in auto mechanics when I was really young, about age 8-9. I used to build those small model plastic car kits from ERTL, Revell and Maisto. But as the technology world started to grow, that took up my interests. So, I began to get computers, laptops and later phones and tablets to take them apart and fix them. But I still have a part of me that wants to be a mechanic. I was hoping that buying this childhood dream car would somehow rekindle that interest. And it did. Recently, my driver's side window regulator started acting up and the fuel gauge is inaccurate so I fixed the window and the antenna. The fuel sending unit will be fixed by a mechanic as I'm still learning things. But I do not want to pay high prices for many repairs than I can learn to fix myself which I'm doing. Other than that, car is still in excellent cosmetic and mechanical shape and is still in safe drivable condition like a new car.
My uncle had the 91 Town car. It drove like butter over those nasty potholes in Chicago. He sold it in 2006 thinking the value will tank like a rock. But in 2019, the same type of car has rapidly appreciated in value as a classic. The days, when big V8 luxury sedans floated down American roads will have a special place in our history.
So true. I wish you kept it. Yes, they have increased in value! I now have a 2011 Town Car that I use as I daily driver to keep my 1989 model in mint shape and the Air Ride Suspension on it is just as smooth as the old Town Cars. In Philadelphia, we're I live, potholes are the common order of the day, even in the busy rich parts of the neighborhoods. When I drive in potholes, I barely feel them! My riders in the back seat feel even less than I do! It's a shame that Lincoln and Cadillac no longer has big V8 sedans with smooth suspension like this!
Beautiful car! I hope you can keep it in good condition. I also bought a 1989 Lincoln Town car as my first car, not limited edition but still in great shape! It has a carriage roof, blue dual tone pinstripes, and the same exact blue interior as yours! As a 17 year old teen today it is not common to see a young person who also has a passion for these beautiful cars. I saved up my money since I was about 7 or 8, just like you, but I didn't know I wanted a Lincoln until I was about 15. I knew I wanted an old "boxy" car from the 80's, though, and when I first saw my Lincoln in the parking lot it was love at first sight! I didn't buy it to get attention but let me tell you I've met some pretty cool people simply because they liked my car and couldn't believe there was such a young kid who had not only bought their own car but had such good taste in cars! I bought it with only 35 thousand miles on it when I was 16, it's really a shame that I can't keep it showroom new as I have to use it everyday. I hope to save enough money to buy a second "work" car when I get out of college and then renovate mine as it will soon need a new paint job and some body work. Thanks for the video!
Thank you! I'm doing my best to keep it in the highest condition of excellence as possible! Nice to hear you got your Town Car. Wow! Your story sounds so much like mine as a kid! That's wonderful! I first fell in love with square body Lincolns at age 7 when I watched Nickelodeon's hit show "Hey Arnold!" Helga's dad drives blue 1970s 2-Door Lincoln Continental and I remember seeing a tan Continental of the same model in real life on a certain street I always passed by while on the school bus. And that's where it all started! Yes, I too have attracted a lot of attention (not intentionally) when people saw I saved up my own money to buy the car of my dreams at such a young age. But you did better than me. You started saving at 7. I didn't start saving until I was 17! Haha! :D And I couldn't afford one until age 21. Yes, I too agree with you on having a second car. While many people think my car looks excellent. It doesn't look as great as it did the day I bought it. I bought a 2006 Town Car in 2015 as my "everyday" car to keep the 1989 model in mint shape. However, it didn't last long, as the 2006 had some major mechanical problems so I had to sell it and continue using the 1989 model. I'm wearing it out. I've got scuffs on the fenders and a chipped taillight. Also my 1989 needs a new paint job, too! I can't wait to buy a newer Town Car again to keep my 1989 preserved. This time I will buy a 2011 Town Car; the last model year produced.
Charles Smith Amazing! It really was less me than my father, who encouraged me to save at a young age. I used to call bank deposits "giving money to the bank"- I just didn't understand. Now it's all paying off though. I would still congratulate you, deciding all on your own to save up on your own and buy such a cool car, while most in this generation have expensive modern cars handed to them. I am so glad to hear that you fell in love with the Town Car at such a young age. The reason I wanted a town car was because my dad was a limo driver in New York City when he was young, and how he described riding in luxury through the streets of Manhattan enticed me. I've never been happier with my beautiful car, and as you (hopefully) know they are rapidly growing in value. Already my car is worth almost triple what I bought it for, even with wear and tear. Thank you so much for making my day!
Wow! Thanks. But that's wonderful. Your father taught you well. EXACTLY! That's the point I'm proud of! Not looking down on anyone; but yes, some young people get these expensive new cars given to them but I worked hard for a modest yet, reliable classic cool vehicle and bought it with my own money. Nice story. I wish I was growing up in that era when Town Cars like these roamed the streets of the inner city in the 1980s and 1990s. Yes, I knew they were increasing in value; they are almost 30 years old. Hard to imagine the late 80s and 90s are about to be 30 years ago! You're welcome. Glad I could make your day!
That’s awesome! Nice to revisit this thread again, as a college grad now. Someday I want another Lincoln to use as a daily driver, something like your 2007!
Hello. I didn't see a text message, but I got an email about the booking request. When I checked again, it was canceled. The car is still available for use if you need it.
Awesome car you got there! Those engines are pretty reliable. My dad has a 1982 Ford F-150 with the same 302 CI 5.0 Litre V8, except his is the non-EFI . They run practically forever. One of the best engines Ford ever made!
+Theodore “Teddy” Thorpe Thank you! I'm sure it will last. In fact, this is one of the fewest Town Cars with just under 100K miles. Most Town Cars from this year have between 150,000 to 250,000+ on them. Everyone that has had one said they put well over 100K and 200K on them. They just end up selling or junking them because they don't appreciate the classic appeal of them or simply because they want something newer. If you regularly service the engine with the right oil and proper coolant, it could practically last forever. I also got a 2006 Town Car with 336,000 miles and engine is still running. The mechanic really thought it was a mistake when he read the odometer. Haha :D And that's average. I couldn't find any 2011 models with under 150,000 miles. Yes, Ford did wonders with this engine!
Wow! That's awesome! I am the same way! We are so much alike! Do you have a photo or video of your 1989 Town Car? If not, please upload some. Thank you.
I love my '96 Executive Series. I cleaned the MAF and ran a few tankfuls of gas with some Marvel Mystery Oil and on a recent road trip I averaged (if I'm lyin' I'm dyin') 30.5 mpg. Just puttin' around my local area I'm averaging 22 mpg. Not too shabby...
Great! That's wonderful! Stellar performance results for a car of this size! I believe you! My Town Car's city MPG was about 19-21 MPG when I first got the car and when this video was made. Lately, I've been getting only about 16-17 MPG. I really don't understand why I don't average higher MPG averages anymore. I drive sensibly, (slow accelerations, coasting/cruise control) I use synthetic oil, I change my oil regularly, I reset my battery (which runs the digital dash for calculating the MPG) and all of my tires are properly inflated. I haven't had any other different driving behavior than I do now. But some reason, I can't average past 16-17 MPG. But I will try that Marvel Mystery Oil solution on my next oil change! Thanks!
Nice tour of that vintage, met you on the LIncoln group page on Facebook. My dad had an older one like that, was huge. I drive a Signature L which is big also. great shape there
Thank you! I saw your Facebook comment. Yes, I love these cars and would buy no other car until I see worthy replacement by Lincoln. I also had a 2006 black Town Car as a daily driver to keep my 1989 model mint but I sold that because it had too many problems. I just didn't have the time to fix it. But it wasn't an L. I love the Signature L model! It is so long! It's even longer than the 1989 model and many cars from the '50s-'70s. I can't believe they made a car that long in the 21st century. I'm looking to buy a 2011 Signature L soon.
@@projectnewwave6859 Thanks! Nice! Yes, I'm keeping this car. It's great to see other young ones interested in this car. I was around your age when I first had interest in this car. I hope you get this car soon.
I’m very envious. I want to get one of these also, my first car was a 1983 Ford LTD Crown Victoria, but the Lincoln has so much more going for it. Congrats on the buy! Hope it’s still working out well for you.
Aw, thanks. I love my Town Car. It has been a great vehicle. Yes, the Lincoln has everything. My favorite is the digital dashboard and power rear antenna. I suggest you search online for a nice Town Car on eBay, like I did. You're bound to find one. They have buyer's protection on vehicles up to $100,000.
I did find a few actually, someone's trying to sell a really mint, low mileage blue on blue (leather) for $28.5k USD. I'm looking a little more locally, since registering cars here in Quebec is a pain in the ass. Do you know of any Town Car/Panther Platform specific forums/groups out there? I've been a member of CrownVic.net since 2008 but I know I'll need to dive into knowledge bases if I can pull the trigger on one.
@@PRNTestDrive That's cool you found some good cars. I didn't know its such a pain to get your car registered. I didn't know of any other forums besides CrownVic.net. I don't really check out forums much unless its through a Google search if I have a small question.
Nice car. I had the same car in 1987. I was 21 also when I bought mine, in 1987. I also had a Signature series. Black, black carriage roof from the factory, digital dash, light grey cloth seats.
Thank you! Nice color combination! The color combo you had for your 1987 model was my long sought-after dream car! I always wanted an '80s Town Car with black exterior and gray or black seats. I also wanted one with a sunroof. Those are very rare options though and very hard to find. I was looking for one like that on eBay and Craigslist for years. When I finally found them, they were very expensive so I gave up and bought this one I have now, which wasn't too much of a disappointment.
Thank you! I agree. It is very quiet and smooth. It will be even smoother once I put an air ride suspension kit in it. The seller just put new regular shocks in them now.
Lucky man, I want to buy a 1989 dodge dynasty or a 93 buick century as a second car. My current car is a saturn 95 sl1. You got sooo lucky buying a car you want to buy even as a first car! With your own money. Something old with chrome...and man...if I were you keep the car original, it looks fine in my opinion don't change it but if u do hey its your car.
Very nice. I am 21 years old and my daily driver is a purple 1994 Lincoln Town Car (before which I had a 1988 Lincoln Mark VII LSC). I don't know why vintage luxury cars are not appreciated more in this day & age.
Daniel McLean Thanks! Wow! Those are nice sets of cars. I think a lot of the reason why these cars aren't appreciated much anymore is because this is a "throw-away" "disposable" generation. Many young people don't really appreciate traditional values, ways of life and other things of the past much anymore. But stay as you are and hope you can keep your Town Car.
+MrNoeliste03 Wow! Really? You do? That's great to hear! 'd love to visit France someday. France and England are the top foreign countries I'd like to visit. I was saving up money to go to France last year but I spent all the money on this car instead. Sorry. France will still be here for a long time, but finding an old Town Car . Sorry. Haha! :D
+Charles Smith I was lucky to come twice already in the usa, to visit Florida, Georgia and New Mexicoyou truly have a beautiful country... and I also love the usa is large v8 cars ha ha !! next year I 'm going to buy a Mustang GT mk5 .
+MrNoeliste03 Wow! That's nice and thank you. I personally think that each country has its own very unique beauty. You write English very well. It's really nice to see that a non-American really appreciates our large V8 cars. Many people outside of the USA do not like them because they feel they are too big. But I like them because of their size and they are safer. I was required to learn French 12 years ago at the middle school in which I attended. At first, it didn't interest me, but I learned to like it like I did every subject at the time and eventually, I grew to love the French language. It was at that point, that my desire grew to visit France. I decided to continue my study of French in high school and later even in college. By the time I was in high school, I never had to study for a test! It was so easy! Now, reading it and writing is easy. My French speaking skills, on the other hand needs work. Hope you get your Mustang next year!
+Gordaton You know our french cars? Frankly I do not like them. I find them ugly, and they have only small diesel engines, while I love big petrol engines. You Americans are lucky to have such beautiful cars!
+Gordaton Wow! I almost guessed it right! I was just about to ask if you were from France! I had a feeling you were. When you mentioned those name of those European cars, I was about to ask if you lived there. I'm not a fan of smaller cars but I've always wanted to visit France. France and England were two and only biggest places I wanted to visit in the world! 🌍
You did good. Beautiful car, love the square body Lincoln’s from that time period. That rides like it is on air. The car is also sound proof. Great buy.

I rented a brand new Town Car Signature Series in 1989 and it was great. Drove my date in it to the Barrister's Ball (which is basically law school prom). The fuel-injected 302 moved the car with surprising ease and was way better than what GM was offering at the time in its large RWD cars. Ran flawlessly and the car had a lot of cool bells and whistles and just looked great. I miss those cars!
Nice! I agree Ford had something GM missed the mark on. That's why the Town Car was still the more popular choice even now into the 21st Century. I wish I were alive in 1989 to have one of these brand new like you did! I was born 1993 and I think the last good car was the 2011 Town Car and even in 2011, I just turned 18 and couldn't afford to buy one brand new. Now, I still have this 1989 model in mint condition, as well as mint condition 2011 Town Car L and I couldn't be happier! When I start dating, I'm shamelessly proudly taking my date in both of my Town Cars, regardless what year they are.
Had a black one and regret letting go of it to this day. One day I'll get another. Was young and dumb 20 year old. It broke down and was sitting in my parents driveway and they kept bugging me to get rid of it and eventually did. That one is particularly nice. I don't usually get jealous of people's stuff but in this case I am very jealous.
Wow! Those black Town Cars are my absolute favorite models! I'm sorry to hear you let it go. You are not alone. A lot of people have left me the same comments, saying they sold or got rid of their beloved Town Cars and that they didn't see the value in it until after it was gone. I hope you can find another one like you had before. Try checking eBay and Craigslist frequently. Sorry to make you jealous.
I am so proud of you Charles S.! I got my first car too when I was 22. I also wanted and older luxury car as well in a very odd but rare color combo. It was 1982, I was 22 and a manager at a downtown outdoor parking lot in DC. I acquired a square body 1978 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Luxury car with a white exterior body color with a light blue full vinyl roof and matching light blue crush velour interior. I financed it through GMAC and got it from a Cadillac pre-owned car lot. In 1985 I collected a 1969 Eldorado from a private owner for $1800. Also in 1998 I collected a 1979 Big Lincoln Town Car Collectors Series in night watch blue. I am a car enthusiast and Collector when the mood and funds are in alignment lol. I do have Pinterest if you ever want to view these cars. I admire what you are doing. Keep up the great work. I will subscribe to your UA-cam channel. Peace, Love, Wellbeing and Abundance!! Ps- Great presentation!! Also, I am a big fan of Lincolns and Ford products. BP
Thank you, sir! Also, glad to hear you are a big fan of Lincoln and Ford products as well. Thanks for sharing your story! That's quite an impressive car collection you have! You had a great job at only age 22 with some great financing opportunity. You lived in the golden years of these American luxury cars! I would love that 1979 Lincoln! Sometimes I wish I were alive back then to experience these cars brand new., as well as the good music and TV shows The mid 1980s up until 1992 was the last year for the square body Cadillac Brougham. 1991 was the last year for the square body Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis. I was born 1993. Most cars today are just boring overpriced bubble-shaped pods that almost all look alike. I'd rather have an old car and load it with new technology over a new car any day. I could've bought my first car at a much younger age than this but I was holding out for an old Lincoln, just like this! If I could have another car, it would be a black 1960s Lincoln Continental. Regards -Charles S.
@@CharlesSmith1 you are accurate in your expression 🤣 😂 of most of these newer cars. They are very round and animated, with a front grille that can have you for supper and if it were not for the badging of their brand its like a big bowl of bean soup with every bean looking just alike. I will give it to Dodge in the remake of the retro Challenger, and of course our brand Ford with the retro look Mustang Ecoboost, GT, GT Shelby 350, GT Shelby 500, and the special Bullet Edition. (Check out the B.ASS Equus) that is mustangs distant cousin lol.... tell me what you think. I rather like the newer Ford F-150 series trucks now. They look better than cars, they still have strong v6 and v8 engines, they have real bumpers and they ride like the old big Lincolns, Ford LTD, Mercury's Marquise. Only when you hit the bumps and rail road tracks you feel the tough truck come out. Lol The Ford Big Trucks give amazing rides. I acquired my first truck ever the 2020 Ford F-150 XL 227" long and 141" wheel base with a v6 that puts out close to 300hp, near about in the high 300s foot pounds of torque. I did not want a 4 Dr this time because its just me riding. It had a unique split front bench seat with mid seat fold down that turns to a wide arm rest for driver and passenger with cup holders and storage bin. Folded up 3 big bois can sit side by side and still have room to breathe. It has remote start, start and stop technology, and a few creature comforts.. With hitch receiver in rear integrated with rear bumper it can haul about 10k lbs. Its 8 ft box can hold near about a 3k payload. When you think of it, technically the older large cars of the 70s that were 231" and 6' wide were actually built on truck frames lol. "Long live the truck!!!" The only newer vehicle that actually improved in looks, ride, power and creature comforts. (Ford F-150 Series Trucks) Chevy, GMC, Nissan, Honda (they trying lol). Do stay in touch. You can find me on Pinterest to see most of the cars I used to have. Take care Charles and I appreciate your passion for American Luxury Autombiles. The Chrysler Imperial LeBaron for 1971-1976 last year in this body style and the Chrysler New Yorker from 1977 to 1978 that took over the Imperial body style where definitely unsung heros. These were amazing cars with "ahead of their time features" that Lincoln and Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac could not compete with. Check them out and who knows you may just like it lol. Peace, Love and Abundance to your Charles Smith. You have an older fan here. BP
@@byronpink9061 Yes, the Dodge Challenger remake is very good. The Imperial was amazing. Very ahead of its time! I've read about their amazing features. I really wasn't a fan of Chrysler and Dodge after the '70s when they switched to the smaller K-car and M-body. I know they did it for good reason to meet the demands of the fuel price increase. But while they made those tiny plain cars, Ford and GM was still pushing out those beautiful full-size cars, which used for limos and hearses. I started liking Dodge and Chrysler again by 2005 when they 300 was redesigned. I wish Ford would have used the styling cues for the original 1964 Mustang for the current Mustang, just like Chevy did with the Camaro, too. but that's highly unlikely. Ford seems to really dislike box body designs. Ford is all about aerodynamics now. While other brands have at least one classy 60s-70s-style car, Ford is heavily invested in curvy designs. Thank goodness they haven't ruined their SUVs and pickups! Yes, an F-Series is the only brand new vehicle I'd buy. A few of my parent's friends owns brand new Ford F-150 quad cab pickups! They're great! I was impressed that remote start is now standard. I added that to my 1989 and 2011 Town Cars a few years ago, but it was after the video was made. I've always loved Ford pickups. My mom currently has a 2017 Huyndai Elantra. So my aunt got me hooked on the Genesis! When Hyundai came into the USA in the late 1980s, I read they didn't do as well as Honda, Toyota and Nissan. Huyndai vehicles were pretty good during the 2000s. But for the most part, they seemed to be haunted by their past history and overshadowed by Honda, even though they did very well in the 21st Century. It took them a while to build up their reputation! Its not until around 2010, that I started seeing many more Hyundai vehicles! Scale 1:24, 1:64, and 1:18 are all my favorite model vehicles. By the way, I like model trains as well. My favorites are CSX, Sante Fe and Amtrak. I have G-scale models to go with the scale 1:24 and H-O scale to go with the 1:64 scale cars.
Believe it or not, many analogue type cars from 80s 90s have less problems because they don't have many electronic gadgets. That town car is one of them!! :)
Mine is still working with the digital guage and I everyone else I know with this car has a digital gauge that still works. I like the accuracy of it, especially for the fuel levels. I thought the digital gauges was especially amazing in the 1990s Town Cars. They gave an accurate level of not only the fuel levels, but the oil levels and battery amperage.

That's awesome. Yes, I think all engines are the same in these cars. Glad you could save this one. Years ago, I saw a beautiful all-black 1989 Lincoln Town Car with digital dashboard, excellent condition leather and a working sunroof. That was my dream car but very rare. When I was young, I'd see it parked in the back yard and it never moved. The only problem was that it would not start up. The guy wanted $5,000 and I thought that was unreasonably high for a car that wouldn't move. At the time, I had no idea it was just the fuel pump. I wished I knew the signs of failed fuel pump as I would have definitely purchased the car. Never saw one in person before or since that day. It sat there about 10 years. After I bought a 2011 Lincoln Town Car for $5,000, he finally called me with a offer of a lower price. I missed his call. When I called him back, I couldn't reach him. Wow! That's nice to hear you have an '86 Mercury Grand Marquis! I love those, too! Keep your car clean! I'm sure you do! I will do mine too.
My Pops had this car when I was a kid. He loved it till this day. One reason why he brought it because it basically the last box shaped car made in America. Also because Cadillac was making there car Front Wheel Drive. That car had feature ahead of it's time. Back in 1988 I would argue with my friends about who's dad had the nicest car. I learned how to drive in that car. So you want intimidated driving any car.
+Gerald Fequiere Wow! Nice story. Yes, that's pretty much the reason why I bought mine. It was the last year for a box shaped car for Lincoln but yet it was classy and still ahead of its time. Cadillac stopped this design in 1992 with redesign of the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. Yes, I agree. I have often suggested that my friends learning how to drive should practice with my big car so that all the other smaller cars they drive in will feel so easy. Now they've increased it to $100,000. You've got very little to loose. Just ask the sellers all the right questions about the mechanics of the car and you're set to receive one beautiful automobile. I got what everyone considers a "better" car. I started to repaint this black and have a black vinyl top. But I've got so much overwhelming feedback to leave it this color as its unique and you, know what? After years of wanting an all black 1989 Town Car, I can now say, that I'm actually in love with this blue one now more than ever! Also, the fact that everything worked in it and it was so cheap made me realize I need to stop waiting on a certain color and hurry up and grab this one online. So far, I have never found another Lincoln this well-preserved for such a low price. I'm so happy I didn't let this one slip away! The seller called me, almost cried and actually wants to buy it back. Haha.
I think I have to agree with you. My first car is a 1991 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, and despite a few reliability problems here and there because of sketchy previous ownership and overall age, it's in fantastic shape for the $1055.83 I paid for it. Drove it home the day I saw it with just over 168,000 miles. Poor mileage and semi-slow acceleration mean nothing when you're as comfortable as you often are in these land barges - There's nothing better than a smooth riding luxury boat with all leather bench seats and the temperature set just right on the AC!
Like your style my guy. I always wanted a late 80’s Town Car too. Someday. I currently have a Cadillac ATS. My wife likes the Caddy because it is much smaller.
Thank you! I like the Cadillac ATS, too! Personally, for me, my latest model of Cadillac sedans would be a 2011 DTS. They're kind of the last of the squared-off-edge design. I currently drive a 2011 Town Car L to keep my 1989 model in mint shape. 2011 was the end of an era for the large American sedans. Yes, keep searching. I know you'll find that late '80s Town Car very soon!
This car brings back some memories! When we moved across the mid-west in 89, my mom rented in if these and took my brothers and sister from Milwaukee to Louisville. She loved it and blew past us in the uhaul smiling hard.
Yes, the car is everything I imagined and more. Now, I know that was a feature available in the '50s. I am surprised it doesn't have any cupholders, yet a cigarette lighter in each door. It seems like in those days, smoking was more of a priority than drinking a beverage.
+Charles Smith When I was a kid, my dad's boss had a 1987 Town Car and I would get to ride in it. I was obsessed with that car. It rode like a hovercraft and I would pretend I was on the Disney World Dream Flight ride with the power seat. I have never actually driven a Town Car but have always wanted to. Imagine it drive like the Queen Mary.
Haha! Cool story. I wish I was around in those days. That's when cars still looked cool and were very smooth. I love the technology of the present but everything else just had better quality at that time. Yes, you should drive a Town Car, if you can still find one at dealership. You'd love it! When I first got my license in 2012, the 1989 and 2011 model was the first cars I wanted to drive. By that year, all the Town Cars were gone from the Ford-Lincoln dealerships. Fleet drivers bought them all up like hotcakes! I had to settle for an MKS to test-drive. It was a great and powerful car, but still didn't quite have that classy elegance and wide, long body as a Town Car.
Have one of the same fine lines style only one of it's kind it commands the road too....will last a long time. Just over the bridge in newjersey... love my car black on black with original CD player. ..enjoy!!
Oh wow! You have my true dream car! I wanted the all-black Town Car was original CD player! Those are so rare! Very hard to find, even in all-black on eBay. I would buy it from you, but I don't think you're selling it. But please take care of that beautiful car!
I bought a 1988 town car Friday. I have blue interior like yours, with the same flaws… and benefits. Mine has 94 thousand miles. I’m very excited about this car, as I couldn’t afford it when it was new. Thanks for the video.
william dixon Oh that's so beautiful! The 1960s Lincoln Continentals were my most favorite car of all time! And wow! That's an extremely reasonably low price for one, even back then! Hope you continue to keep it! 👌
That’s a beautiful Lincoln! My favorite is the ultra luxurious 1992 Cadillac Fleetwood sixty special with the 22-way guigaro ital design leather seats. I’m still looking for the wire wheels for my dads Lincoln
Jose Duran Jr Thanks! Yes, I too, recently started liking that Cadillac Fleetwood as well. I wasn't that much interested in it until one of my friends got me hooked on it! Hopefully, you can get some wire wheels soon! Which Lincoln does your dad have?
Wow! That's awesome! I love these cars! Thanks for sharing your fond memories!
very beautiful Lincoln young man and you cannot go wrong with Lincoln
David Roberts Thanks! Yes, I agree! 👌 Lincolns are still my favorite luxury brand. 👍
As a 2005 Crown Victoria owner, as it being my FIRST car...its the last of the Panther Platform, body on frame vehicles ever made.
I love anything Cadillac or Lincoln.
So do I!
I am 21 and car shopping, this is on the top of my list
Glad to hear it! I hope you find one!
You have the same passion I do for my 76 continental in every detail.
Wow! Great to hear! I sure do love Continentals from the '60s and '70s. How long have you had your '76 Continental?
I love my lincoln too bought it at 19 I'm now about to be 24 and I'm still in love with it like it was the first time I drove it
That's nice! I got mine at 21. I still have mine and I'm 28 years old now. We both got our Town Cars young and are still enjoying it.
That blue velvet is like diving into a tropical lagoon of warmth !!
It definitely is!
This is a truly beautiful car. Keep it nice, they dont make it like this anymore and I always loved the quality in these cars
Thats awesome, I just came across your video 5 years later but the Town Car's of that Era were sweet.
What an awesome video! Makes me miss my 89 Town Car, think Ill even watch it again! Thanks Charles :)
Hey, I'm glad you liked the video. Thanks for watching. What happened to your '89 Town Car?
@@CharlesSmith1 an old dude offered me too much money for it, so I sold it :( I have a very mint 1985 Parisienne Brougham now
How long did you have the Town Car before you sold it. And how do you like the Brougham? @@cluricaun78
@@CharlesSmith1 around 7 years, and it was always a good car other than the alternators kept going, they had a crappy connector in 89, eventually replaced it with a modified GM unit lol I'm liking the Brougham a lot though, it's a cool ride ^^
Oh wow. Thanks for sharing. The Ford and GM square body cars are both great choices! Enjoy your '85 Pontiac Parisienne. @@cluricaun78
Had a 91 and loved her. They are solid cars that are bulletproof
Devin Holmes I agree! What happened to your 1991 model?
I love how Town Cars are also very quiet when you drive them. In Texas, surrounded by loud trucks and custom Mustangs I feel like a princess in my Town Car. I don't race around in it, I just cruuuuuuse...
Yes, they are so quiet! Nothing like a Town Car! I agree with your sentiments! 😊💯
AS A FORMER LINCOLN 'PILOT' I APPLAUD YOUR CHOICE IN LAND YACHT! GOOD TO SEE THE TRADITION LIVE...
LOOOOOVE it!!!! Hope you still have it, one smart young man, Thank you for respecting and cherishing this wonderful machine.
Nice! I always get people staring at me when I drive mine! I'm sure you'll enjoy your Town Car! 👍
It's in the shop right now, my mechanic won't let ANYONE touch it but him, he said it's such a pleasure when a REAL car like this comes in to his shop, he wants to do it himself. haha Even he is super impressed with the condition it's in.
Such a pretty car. They don't make cars like that anymore. I absolutely love Americans cars from the eighties. Greetings from Norway, Northern Europe.
Hey, thank you. I'm glad you appreciate these cars as much as I do. Do they have Lincoln vehicles in Norway?
A land yacht just point and it goes. Stereo sounds great!
Hey, thanks!
It's amazing how Lincoln and Cadillac are rivals today
yet they both had humble beginnings through the same individual in the past.
I had an '88 TC. I put over 400,000mi on the original motor. Work of art. Best most dependable, comfortable car ever!!!
That's awesome! I always knew that these cars were made to last! 😏
This is exactly what I want my first car to be!
Glad to hear it!
Very similar to my 1988 Crown Vic! This just has a lot more creature comforts.
Just bought this as my first car at 21 as well!!!!
Hey, nice to know! How long has it been since you had your Town Car now? And what color is your 1989 Town Car?
Awesome man, you've inspired me to pursue my dream of owning a caprice as my first car, despite friends saying that they're old and are gonna break down all the time.
Hey thanks! Glad to hear it! Yes, go for it! Do what's best for you! Don't get something just because others says so. Old cars are great and fun to drive! Just find one in great condition with all the car facts and you will enjoy driving it!
I had 2 one of them was fixed as smal limo with tables for each pass in the back was a real beauty
The only problem I had with my 89 the first year I had it - I had to replace the driver side door handle. My dad did it in the drive way - it was $25.
Wow. That's a pretty minor problem. Glad you got it fixed!
Love this, I’m also getting a 89 Lincoln when I turn 15 so excited
Thanks! That's awesome! I'm so happy to hear! 😊
Did you get one, Mia !!
I have a friend who has a 1989 Lincoln Town Car in maroon red with full carriage roof. He has had it since new and he and his wife like to take it to football games for tailgate parties.
Oh, that's nice! I love the full carriage rooves!
The digital display is just amazing I had it on my 88 and 89 Lincoln Town Car absolutely awesome
I love the digital display! That was completely unexpected when I bought this car! So that made up for the fact that I didn't have leather seats. 😏
Well, if people back then buyed HUGE cars as their first vehicle, i think we can still buy HUGE cars for our first vehicle NOW.
Agreed! 👍🏾
@@CharlesSmith1 Yeah, I grew up in NYC, and back when I was a kid I always asked dad when he would get a floaty lincoln like my uncle 😁.
Wow! Yes! Those were the days! @@adithyaramachandran7427
While many people think my car looks
excellent.
Glad I could make your day!
i got a lincoln town car 2007 model as my first car last week and i love it!
That’s awesome! Nice to revisit this thread again, as a college grad now. Someday I want another Lincoln to use as a daily driver, something like your 2007!
hi charles! my mom rented your car through drive share for sunday. she tried texting you there but hasn't gotten a reply.
Wow, I am also 21 and picked this same car up. Same color and everything. I don't ever want to drive anything else!
Wow! That's awesome! I am the same way! We are so much alike! Do you have a photo or video of your 1989 Town Car? If not, please upload some. Thank you.
That car is in great shape. Take good care of it!!!
Thank you! I definitely will!
I'm looking to buy a 2011 Signature L soon.
wow, good for you, are you going to keep the 89 also?
Keep it it's a real classic.

Good buy my friend you will not find a quieter smoother ride at any price. It still looks awesome.

The Chrysler Imperial LeBaron for 1971-1976 last year in this body style and the Chrysler New Yorker from 1977 to 1978 that took over the Imperial body style where definitely unsung heros. My favorites go back to the 1970s models. Many of the models from 1987 are still being used today! Best selling truck in America! It won that award over 30 years! They last so long! I love 1996 F-Series. That was one of my favorite old ones. I have several small scaled miniature models of F-150s from years 1999-2006. the Equus is a very respectable car for a Hyundai variant. If I was forced to buy a newer foreign car, it would be a 2016 Equus. Really cool to hear you started a Hot Wheels Club. I wish they had that when I was in school.
What motor do you have I just got me a 1988 tow car for 300.00 with 86000 miles on it and it is white with blue carriage top and white leather interior it just needed a new fuel pump and tank .
Congrats on your town car purchase. You got a really, really great deal! I have the Ford 5.0L EFI Windsor engine.
@@CharlesSmith1 I have the same motor in mine I saved mine from getting crushed it was to nice of a car to crush the leather is in great condition the reason it was towed was the fuel pump failed and was impound from 2015 till now when I pulled the fuel pump the tank was all rusted so I'm putting a new tank and fuel pump in it I'm 64 yrs old and do my own work on it.
I went back to his house and saw the car. Not purchasing that car is one of the biggest regrets in my life. @@rayphillips332
Def wanna get me one soon love these ol school Lincolns
Glad to hear it! Yes, definitely go for it! I know you will love it when you get one!
@@CharlesSmith1 yesss indeed 💯💯💯
sweet,, please make more videos of your car driving
Respect the car brother! I inherited one of the same year the same time you released the video from my pops at 17, its a great car and while Ive had some issues on it like the fuel pump, sun roof, and seat tearing, its a great place to learn on too. Lets me get comfortable with working on fancier cars as well that I now own, but this will always be my daily driver and I look like an 80s king while doing it!
I love the car! It's one of my childhood favorites, after the 1960s Lincoln Continental. For my car, the issue I had was fuel pump and now the transmission. I got the fuel pump fixed. I will get the transmission fixed soon. I love my 1989 Town Car. I used it as a daily driver for years! In 2018, I got a 2011 Lincoln Town Car which I use now as a daily driver to keep my 1989 model in mint condition.
@@CharlesSmith1 We had a transmission issue in the early 2000s, ended up with a full rebuild so while semi expensive its not the end of the world and keeps the car rolling! Great to hear you got a newer one as well, i moved more into the sports car space but am building out the town car back to how beautiful it was in the past.
My dad had a 70s continental before the town car as well so it seems we all got similar taste haha
Yes, those 70s and 80s Lincolns are my favorite! A transmission rebuild is totally worth it to me to keep the car! I'd rather put more money into a 60s-80s Lincoln than buy a newer car any day! @@BaioWithMayo
@@CharlesSmith1 haha yeah man! Hope it all goes well and the money we save on insurance with an older car makes up for most repairs anyway. Hope we are both back on the road soon enough
Right. My car still drives. The bad transmission keeps it from shifting in the next gear. It won't drive over 55MPH. For local driving, it's still good for now. @@BaioWithMayo
I’m 14 and buying this as my 1st car from my dad for only $1500!
Hey, sounds great! That's awesome! I wish someone in my family had one of these beauties that I could've gotten at such a low price. What color and year is your car?
Charles Smith mine is a 1989 also! Very similar color to yours, no bluish tint though, it is fully a cloudy silver color. It drives like a cloud!
Griffin Aasen Buying it from your dad? He could not just give it to you? An interesting way to show you how much he loves you.
@@paulparoma not everyone comes from a rich family like you. I'm 17, I'm getting my own car in a month, from my money I earned working at Burger King. My dad just got rid of his car the other day and sold it to someone off Craigslist. I could have gotten it, but my dad never asked, and I never asked. Your parents are obligated to give you a car. Get one yourself. Love isn't measured by material items
You're not supposed to be driving yet.Don't drive it until it's time.Otherwise you'll dig yourself in a hole.
I had one. Amazing car
That's great to hear! When did you buy yours and how long did you have it?
@@CharlesSmith1 I bought it in 1996 with about 48k miles. I think I paid $5000. Dark Gray with gray interior. Drove it four years, put almost another 100k on it, gave it to my parents at 150k they drove it past 200k. I have had others, a 99 and a 2000, but that gray one was the best riding and running of the bunch!
@@seethebutter Oh sounds great! Wow! Even back at that time, $5,000 wasn't a bad price for a Town Car in that condition. Yes, the 1989 is my favorite. In 2018 I purchased a 2011 Town Car L model to keep my '89 in mint shape. Although the 2011 is more modern, I still prefer my 1989 though as I like the styling better. It's a much stronger car, as well.
i have a 1997 Town Car as my first car and i love it!
91myroc Nice! 😆 You have the last year of the square bodies!
Charles Smith While driving your Town Car you have to play Royal Flush Instrumental by Outkast. it fits the car so well lol
Okay. i will try that soon!
91myroc i got a 1989 i listen to pac in it
I have a 97 TC too!
Such a great car and video bro.
Thank you so much!
Good find. Keep this thing forever.
Also interesting to hear about the horn. I have the same one on my caddy!!
Yes, I'm having so much fun with my Town Car. I was getting so many compliments with it, I was thinking of reselling it for more money than I paid but I think I'll keep it, now that you and others are urging me to do so. Mine has been really reliable easy and affordable to fix. The only real issues I had on the car was a bad fuel gauge, and front window sticking. All major parts are good; no engine, transmission, tires or brake issues yet. I think I will keep it as long as I can.
These horns came out of a 1997 Cadillac DeVille and was the first modification made to the car. Ever since I was a kid, I loved that sound so I resolved I'd put it in
my first car the day I buy it. What year is your Cadillac?
1996
Nice! Those 1996-1997 models had the best sounding horns in my opinion.
My dad and I are about to start trying to bring his 89 back to life!! It’s going to be epic!!
That's awesome! What color is the car and when did he last drive it?
Charles Smith Sams as yours lol and it’s been YEARS. Probably around 12-13 yrs.
Wow. Is it leather seats and cloth top though? @@JoseLara-pg7im
Charles Smith not leather seats but it does have padding.
Oh I see. Cool. @@JoseLara-pg7im
Do you still have it?
Yes, I do!
Everyone can see that you're happy with your car and appreciate it. All the best to you, my friend. It's indeed a very nice ride. Some drive a 90,000 car and still complain..
P.S. I'm the seond owner of a '86 MGM, and the previous owner took the lighters out to keep it clean & fresh :)
Thanks! Yes, I'm very happy with my car! I agree. People don't believe me, but I always say even if I were rich, I'd still want to drive this car. Haha! I'd rather have five classic luxury cars with modified electronics than one new luxury Mercedes. I've driven my friends Mercedes and other cars. They're cool but I just don't get that same excitement I do with my car. If I had $90,000, I'd buy a low mileage 1989 Town Car, a 1961 Continental, and a 1977 and 1996 Fleetwood. I have a nice neighbor who is about 60 years old, who currently owns and drives a 1990 Ford Crown Victoria wagon, 1995 Town Car, 1999 Cadillac DeVille and a 2013 Chrysler 300. Judging by the fact that the 2013 Chrysler 300 always stays parked in front of his home, I'd say that it
is his least favorite cars. He drives the '90s luxury vehicles more. I almost never see them! Wow! That's nice to hear you have an '86 Mercury Grand Marquis! I love those, too! Keep your car clean! I'm sure you do! I will do mine too.
I have al ways loved these cars
Thanks! Me, too!
Who won that argument with your friends of the nicest car? Does he still have a first generation Town Car like this?
John Gotti Would Approved.
dejohn913 I think he owned one at once.
Two words.....SUH WEEEET! I'm looking for an older car like that for my wife when she wants to get rid of her current new car. I think they're beautiful & we're both in our 50s so we remember the great cars of the 80s.
Thanks! I love the emphasis on the word "sweet"! Definitely check eBay like I did or look for local listings. It was well worth the risk! At the time I bought this car, eBay had a buyer's protection guarantee up to $50,000 if the car doesn't get delivered or if there are unlisted major problems with the car. Now they've increased it to $100,000. You've got very little to loose. Just ask the sellers all the right questions about the mechanics of the car and you're set to receive one beautiful automobile. I'm sure your wife would LOVE this car and it would bring back great memories to you too! Enjoy!
Thanks Charles! Have a great day. Really enjoyed the video.
John Esparza Thanks! Have a great day as well!
Hi,did you know you can set your high/low beams to adjust automatically so you dont have to keep dimming them from low to high or vice versa. its all in your manual. :) Beautiful Lincoln Town Car by the way man. Stay Classy...Always.
Warren Ripley Yes, I knew I could do that. As soon as I got this car, I read the manual. I was really surprised this car had that feature when I got it! Thank you. This was a great eBay.com find.
Glad you have it figured out, just thought i'd help,or try to,still a beautiful car. :)
Warren Ripley It's fine. I appreciate that. Yes, a very beautiful car. Thanks. It's funny. When for years, since I was a little kid, I first wanted this car in black with tan or gray interior leather seats. But unfortunately, I couldn't find one. Well, it wasn't so "unfortunate". Haha.
lol,his loss is your gain.
Yeah, I guess you're right. Haha!
1989 was the best year for this body. Then.....1990 came and the kinks came back
The music sounds fresh and clear!
Thanks!
Poor mileage and semi-slow acceleration mean nothing when you're as comfortable as you often are in these land barges - There's nothing better than a smooth riding luxury boat with all leather bench seats and the temperature set just right on the AC!
james deen Wow! Nice story. Thank you for sharing! I agree with every word you said. I feel the same way you do about these types of cars!
Nice story! I love these cars! I wish I alive at the time so that I could've experienced great cars like these brand new.
I always wanted one of those Town Cars. They had power seats in Cadillac and Lincolns back in the 1950's.
