My first taste and experience of home made DIY E Bikes was the legendary Stink-E which was modified from a downhill bike with an EMTB motor and battery attached. We had some crazy riding moment on it, with Jono riding it into a huge bush and ridiculous suspension rebounds for freeride jump line clips. But the best thing is I've found another more insane DIY E Bike that someone has custom built with a Marin frame and Halo wheels, it's like it was built for me! I bought it and the rest is history... enjoy the riding clips and crazy top speed runs. The MarinSult is so dangerous on jumps!

matt, if you cant source a new double crown fork ( which im sure you can) you could try sticking a 24 inch wheel on the front to try to avoid the battery rub while keeping some stability. i would also love to see a 12 speed cassette on this absolute rig and how fast it would be able to speed up the hills

yeah on a similar theme i'd thought of Goose-Goose (as in Gas Gas, the Spanish off-road motorbike company), but I prefer yours

Those bafang motors are legit. I have a 750w motor on my Hammerhead adaptive mtb
Be careful putting the chain on with it powered on. If it's like mine turning the crank can engage the motor and you'll catch your finger.

My first MTB was a 1998 Marin East Peak. It was top of the line at its time. I still have it!
same but i abused it because i was new to mtb and couldnt afford an upgrade, had it 6 years ago now
Same, mine was Red and I had RST Hi 5 triples on it with Mag V brakes, red walled panaracer tyres Tioga saddle...what a beast
@@wheelhobby same as me! I upgraded the fork to rockshox recon air, and a monarch rear shock. SLX derailleurs, Deore XT V-brakes v brakes and wheels. The frame is too small for me now. But it means to much to me to get rid of.
Those Bafang kits are great fun, and the throttle makes it so that you can have a great time on any single track even if is flat or even inclined. So give the motor a real chance and put it on a good frame with a bling ring for proper chain offset and make a delicious MARINade instead. :)

Its so fun to convert old MTBs with these kits. I have a giant NRS converted with a Bafang that goes on BC trails all the time, and its WAY too fast and powerful with the motor, lol. Older bikes are so easy to convert too.

You should see if Brink will do a full service on your e-bike collection whilst filming the full thing.
You could also try and arrange a homebrew e-bike hill climb challenge or a full e-bike race. I bet a few of your riding friends would get in buying cheap bikes with cheap Chinese fire hazards attached to them.
Bafang mid-drives are awesome , had mine for 4 years and its never let me down.

I would recommend a Grin Tech battery mount so that you can relocate the battery onto the top tube. These mounts use hose clamps (and bottle mounts in unison if available) so that you can mount it anywhere on the frame. Alternatively you could run a backpack battery with a long power cable. We've all seen those Li-Ion fires, not nice.
