This is absolutely one of the best Bootleg series they've done. Incredible front to back and makes clear that "Self Portrait" is greater than everyone thought, and "New Morning" is a better classic than we realized. Brilliant, naturally.
I love Another Self Portrait. Inspired me to make my own edited cut of New Morning using some of the outtakes and unreleased songs from ASP. Called it "Newer Morning"! It's a shame that the Cutting Edge one that came out last year was such a let down. They really should have included all the unreleased songs on the 2 disc set with the massive limited edition set just being extra outtakes for the puritan collector. It still would have sold. Instead we get almost nothing but alternate takes of songs already on the album, many of which are extremely similar, subpar or just cut off like a verse or two in.
I absolutely loved New Morning and Self Portrait. I bought them as soon as they hit the shelves. No one shared my taste in music back then and with the exception of my kids no one does today. I’ll always love Dylan.
Dylan is an infinitely better singer than he has ever been given credit for. He has been a fearless experimenter who like all the best artistic creators, has never been content to stick with one approach to making music and has worked hard to uncover that which has always been there waiting in the deep glittering recesses of his rich imagination.
I just love Bob. He has always been my fav since I was a little girl- never born too late to love Bob’s masterful work (‘74) My dad played some Bob when I was a little girl & it hit my soul in a way I couldn’t explain- and to this day can’t explain. I just cant ever get enough
I really hope you just be sure and feel and know how much good- your music, your poems, your voice, your existence are still doing around the world in these times. But, you know, dear friend, words will never be enough. You are a dear friend to me! You'll always be. I will not apologize for daring to say it! Love and colourfull thoughts from Romania!
Thank you so much for the beautiful pictures and your love and life 💕💕 my love Bob Dylan, Elizabeth 🎩🎹🎸🎨🖌️🌱🎶🎵🎧, you have become a beautiful person and intelligent man and legend my love, Elizabeth ❤️
Jurijus M JM respectfully, some things in the past can’t be fixed ‘cause the mistake is done. If it were me I’d splice it out, like moving out of a bad place. But, that’s just me & I’d like to take my own advice sometimes but I’d miss my kids, ya know?
this is my all time favorite film on youtube -- I made a series of films with this title also... my heart is laughing, espeially when Al Kooper speaks! And Bob sings and plays, of course! Could look again and again... much greetings to you all from Michel from Southwest Germany
My favorite music period for Bob and he seems so relaxed and happy in these pictures. Each day, I always have the thought....oh if we could just turn back time and start over again. Oh, and these guys in the video are lovely!💎💎💎
At 6:17 it just stops. Up until then it was might interesting, great sound and image quality, fragments of beautiful songs, great background stories. We wanna see THE REST OF IT!!!
i remember how much the critics hated this record when it came out but all these years later man his voice is just fantastic the best he ever sounded I cannot get over how fuken great this album is,i remember when street legal was released and it too was panned and I found it was an album that grew on me now its a classic and thats what makes him so great its dylan man u just try and keep up
Just shows to go you, the critics have never known what Bob is about, what he's up to and what he'll do next. Critics can suck bath water up their ass!!!
"the best he ever sounded..." I respectfully disagree, although he did sound great. I've always felt that "Blood on the Tracks" contains his finest vocal work.
Take the 11 keepers from it (leaving "The Mighty Quinn" to Gr. Hits II if need be), add the 18 keepers from Another Self Portrait (leaving "I Threw It All Away" to Travelin' Thru [disc 1], ditto), and you have Yet Another... ---GREAT ALBUM.
This is probably one of the best releases in the Bob Dylan catalogue so far. It pairs well with "Bob Dylan 1970" for a really deep dive into the impetus of the music of these two divisive records
What is interesting is that George Harrison was visiting Bob Dylan in NYC when New Morning was being recorded and actually played on a few songs which he is not credited for since Apple has restrictions on George Harrison where and when he can play. If you listen to the album you will be able to pick out George Harrison slide guitar. George Harrison also met Nashville steel pedal virtuoso Pete Drake and asked him to come over to the UK and record on the song "Behind That Locked Door" -- the song George Harrison wrote for Bob Dylan which appears on his first solo album All Things Must Pass in 1971.
His voice on Copper Kettle...who the fuck said this man can't sing? Bob Johnston, living legend. I've always felt New Morning is one of Dylans finest albums, from note one it is an excellent record.
@BobDylanVevo This is a very important and interesting short docu so please upload it again. As you can read in the comment below this video freezes half way. Such a shame, so please not only read comments, but do something about it. Thanks in advance!
It was thought to be a big mistake when he put the original " Self Portrait" out, but, looking back, I'm so glad he did.. As much as anything it speaks to the world of 1970..I was there..I remember.
There is a jewel on this double album that not many people know about. It’s called “all the tired horses and it’s gotta be the most beautiful piece of music I’ve ever heard. Period check it out it’s awesome .
Thank you for your lovely Songs and Poetry! Here especially Saro❣️ Its Unique but so TRUE (Like Ice like Fire) your giving so many people and yourself such pleasure💥🎶💫🌞🌹❤️👌
That painting they use for album cover, i dont know is that a portrait of Dylan, because it looks much more like a painting of this guy talking from 0:40.

Just found this video. It was going great until the video and audio craps out about 3:14 on my feed. 10/11/22. Wassup w/ dat?😞 Edit. Premium subscriber
What a cool avant-garde film. David Bromberg is one hell of an actor, holding that crazy pose perfectly still for 12 minutes!
That is some serious acting.
Amazing
I especially liked the part where the guy went 🥴👉🏻
hahahahaha was watching anticipating to discover that
This is the funniest comment ever to be on UA-cam. UA-cam should give it an award.
🤗 6:13
Lol he froze the camera with his highly concentrated weirdness.
Lmao 😂

I bloody LOVE The Cutting Edge. And Another Self Portrait. But The Cutting Edge...
Yep....my favorite of all the bootleg series......close competition would be Tell Tale Signs......

He did not have the classically beautiful voice but he sure could use the one he had.
Joan Baez, IMO, was a great interpreter of Bob Dylan.
Dylan is the greatest living display of genius there is
Giving him the Nobel prize was the most intelligent choice

Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here
My favorite since 1961- to his last breath. My musical companion to inspire my creativity. Blessings and peace to his spirit and to all his fans. ❤
Glad I clicked this link. I could listen to Bob Johnston talk about Dylan sessions all day and night!
Dylan looked angelic during this period ....
He genuinely looked happy. For the first and probably the last time.
I really hope you just be sure and feel and know how much good- your music, your poems, your voice, your existence are still doing around the world in these times. You can't edit or replace a video on UA-cam without losing the link and stats. The Vimeo link above has the full version (and it is good).
I pray Bob comes to do USA tours soon. I hate to die without seeing this sweet musical genius!!
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here.
I always really loved New Morning, probably in my top 10 Dylan albums. Got that sweet, new daddy, woods livin' Dylan sound
Dylan was so far ahead of the critics and much of his audience. A true artist.
this is my all time favorite film on youtube -- I made a series of films with this title also... my heart is laughing, espeially when Al Kooper speaks! And Bob sings and plays, of course! Could look again and again... much greetings to you all from Michel from Southwest Germany
That's a hell of a freeze frame... Thought my internet had gone out.
He had a beautiful and lovely collie 😍🐶 those times. God bless that puppy who had such an special friend. 🙏❤️
his voice was so smooth and tender then - mellifluous!
Bromberg was a force in the 70s. Saw him several times and always had to convince my girlfriend she should go home with me after the shows.
My favorite music period for Bob and he seems so relaxed and happy in these pictures. Each day, I always have the thought....oh if we could just turn back time and start over again. Oh, and these guys in the video are lovely!💎💎💎

This is the best his voice as ever sounded, technically.
LOL. I was thinking the very same before I read your comment. Wonderful singing.
Ever heard Nashville skyline?
Just after Nashville Skyline imho his best record.
His voice was fantastic then ..very clear.....shame the video crashed halfway ..
Nick B
Unlike today, when it’s hard to figure out what the Hell he’s singng Anymore!
This is my opinion of Self Portrait. It wasn't awful, it was awfully underrated.
Yawn. disagree.
Fanstastic album.

Just go back to the vocal track and guitar, clean away all the other crap and you`ve got some good sangin`.
needs to be re-uploaded. freezes halfway

A Dylan-O file since 1970 to present. Highlight was the 1974 Dylan and the Band concert at the Los Angeles Forum (Before the Flood) era
was there ...superb
I love this album.
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here

His voice on Copper Kettle...who the fuck said this man can't sing? Bob Johnston, living legend. I've always felt New Morning is one of Dylans finest albums, from note one it is an excellent record.

2. Shot of Love
3. Slow Train
4. Slow Train Coming
5.Self-Portrait
Under the Red Sky is number 4.

Bob simply amazes me! Love this album 💞💟💗💖❤️
La storia di bob dylan...è diversa da tutti... La sua grandezza...è inimitabile... Forse solo gente come Johnny cash...è simile...
Just after the motorcycle accident he cleaned up and was sober really nice part of his career.
Self Portrait is my favorite album in the sense if I had to choose...

Video file is corrupted. Freezes at 6:14, with Dave Bromberg sticking his finger out.
How does Mike manage to hold that pose so long? Amazing
He must be waiting for a NEW MORNING
@@weemoses 😆
Bob had given up cigarettes at this stage and his voice was very smooth.
He must have gone back to them, then.
Yeah Nashville skyline Bob voice was so sweet 🏴👍😄
Second part is great
What happened with the sound. No sound at all from about half way.
TBH I have never heard of the self portrait album so I cannot comment. The album New Morning was incredible
Those still pics @ ~3:05, is that at the farm in Bearsville (Woodstock, N.Y.) when he was staying there with The Band??
David Hinkes i believe so. that’s my favorite period of dylan and the band. imagine hanging out with them in those days. must’ve been a sweet time.
Keep on freewheel"in Bob! 😎 👍
