There's also this cute moment where if you die with Than there (or perhaps after you finish a competition) he shows up like Hades during a 45 sec encounter and is like "we're going home". I was so pleasantly surprised when that happened

It seems to be Thanatos that enforces the tight deadline, after time runs out, the screen flashes green, the bell tolls, and it shows the ghostly purple skulls ticking away your health. So i wonder if there's unique dialogue if you summon thanatos while you're out of time, or run out of time during a competition. I tried summoning him after running out of time a couple times but as far as i can remember it didn't seem like unique dialogue
i found in a reddit post that he will likely spawn if you take damage in ~3 standard encounters in a row... i tried it once and it worked!! also thank u for sharing the lines when zag dies in front of him... they are 🥺
I saw that post: according to his coding (even though I don't understand it entirely) some of his requirements are that you took damage in the last "five" (minutes? Chambers?); are past chamber number 9/2/3 (of Tartarus/Asphodel/Elysium 'biome depth'); and that the chamber has a certain difficult and number of certain enemies of a ramping value that I have no idea how is calculated... He's complicated lol. I tried lowering the biome depth so he'd have more chances to spawn, but it broke the game sometimes, and others the enemies wouldn't appear. I succeed in making he spawn multiple times in a run (his max is 1) and in easier chambers by lowering the difficult and minimum enemy numbers. I haven't watched the video fully yet but want to add. If you summon Than while fighting with Meg, he can say "Please, don't make me do this"😭 After he said this to me I never used his abilities on Meg ever again 😭😭😭
Idk if it's late to tell you but about the lines that you can't trigger, they appear after you done the competition with Than and die while not talking to him/taking the centar heart yet

you can absolutely talk to him! i’ve been meeting him in asphodel and then standing in the lava after he disappears lol that’s the easiest way to trigger the lines
I only might add that, based on my experience, he spawns rarely both in Tartarus and Asphodel. The most times I met him were at Elysium. Actually, I've met him only once in the Asphodel, so I guess it's more or less pure random. Or it is canon, cuz he says if you spawn him while beating Learnie "I don't like the heat down here" :))

Yeah, 5 months ago I had only a few days before Hades left gamepass catalog, so barely got to see half the story. Now I bought it, ended it, and got to unlock the pact of punishment where I do get to fight the three sisters at once. Never included it in my plays though.

He has a higher chance of spawning in rooms with lots of tough common enemies so make sure you're getting past Tartarus. Also, his 1st encounter is in Elysium I think. I don't remember if your HP affects his spawning in any way. Yw, have fun

you have to have a conversation with hades about using companions against him, i think there's a prerequisite that you need to have at least 2 chthonic companions unlocked

the death is inescapable lines could only be triggered when dying in asphodel.. why asphodel alone i dont know..
