Great song, great reaction! A very underrated SB song is "Only When You Leave" PS the "dove" motif was their logo for the period around the "True" album
The lead singer as smooth as Bryan Ferry....and trust me, that is a compliment. They played their big hit, "True", at my senior prom...I wished my partner could have danced as well as the lead singer sings. 😂
A true classic, no doubt. To me this song also has one of the best endings in pop history. Plus its extended/12" versions is one of the best ever made.
One of the best of the best... these are my salad days, slowly being eaten away...... one of my alltime favorite song of the 80's... Toni Hadley provided some of the best male vocals back then.. the whole album with Gold and True was fab.
After Spandau Ballet broke up the Kemp Brothers went into acting both appearing in the movie The Krays. Gary went on to play Whitney Houston's manager in The Bodyguard and Martin appeared in a famous British soap opera called EastEnders.
Tony Hadley is without a doubt in the top of eighties vocalists. The man has some amazing pipes. Spandau Ballet never broke America though. True was their biggest hit over there. In Europe their 4th album Parade did commercially well, as did their 5th Through the barricades. At the end of the eighties the band declined and both of the Kemps persued an acting carreer. Main songwriter Gary Kemp played in the blockbuster The Bodyguard as Withney Houston's agent. And bassist Martin Kemp had a long run as an actor in a British soap opera. They reunited in 2009 and in 2015 to much succes. However singer Tony Hadley left because of alledged personal feud against both Kemps..
I don't know if you can say they never broken America considering True is the number one played single in radio history. Not to mention the video for Gold was played every half an hour on MTV.
One of the classic acts of the 1980’s ! My teenage years too …. You need to also react to True, Through The Barricades, Fight For Ourselves, Pleasure, Steal & How Many Lies ….. what a band !!! They have unfortunately had many arguments with the outcome being to go to court over various things so they had a long period of not doing anything but they tried to patch it up and did do a new album and tour but things started to unravel and they split for the final time …. Tony Hadley (lead singer) has gone back to being a solo artist and has categorically stated he’s not going to be involved in any future Spandau Ballet projects or tours …. So unfortunately that is the end. The only way they could go on is to have somebody else take over but that can be a double edged sword …..
These guys are from the era when I was a preteen. But as a singer, and older now, I’m so impressed by Hadley’s voice. He’s so obviously a well trained singer who sounds just as great live. I’ve seen some live concert footage from 10 or so years ago and even as an older man that voice is still right on point. Impressive! You’d probably also like ABC whose lead singer has a similar style & are sophisticated but dance heavy. I do also love ONLY WHEN YOU LEAVE by Spandau too. Great reaction as always!!
Ahhh, love a bit of Spandau B. Tons of hits but this is one of my absolute favourites. Tony Hadley has a monumental voice and the Kemp brothers were great - the brothers have done a bit of acting in their time too, bit of trivia. Love this one, glad you chose it and appreciate it as much as so many do. They were considered part of the "new romantics" movement in the 80s. In fact they were really the biggest name among the "new romantics". Excellent all round.
Thanks for reacting to SB. Truly a golden track.. a tender tune "I'll Fly For You" is beautiful, more sax for ya there. And the music video gives me feels of Against All Odds. Their earlier years has some funky, serious tunes -- check out "Chant No.1".
I appreciate you, I'm French from Montre\éal, Québec and I respect you because you listen to a lot of French music, merçi beaucoup pour ton appréciaition de la musique francophone. thank you.
Agree on wanting the song to be longer. And you can get it by searching out some 12" Remixes. I bought a great one back in the 80's. I'm almost positive I found it online on youtube at some point too.
The girl in the video is actress Sadie Frost. She ended up marrying the guitar / piano player Gary Kemp. Then she left him for actor Jude Law. She later starred in the video for Common People by English band Pulp
You have to listen to through the barricades by Spandau ballet it's about the troubles in northern Ireland where a friend of theirs died, beautiful song
Their first hitsingle (in the Netherlands) and still one of their best was: Chant no 1 (I don't need this pressure on). Great great song. Funky dance song.. and it has something .. dirty/rough. Not the lyrics, can't explain..
Derek could you please do either Dexys midnight runners-cmon Eileen ( its a british party song must have!) Berlin-Take my breath away Madness-Baggy Trousers
Hi Dereck! Personally, I wasn't thrown away by this song! I much prefer TRUE released the same year which is far better than this one. I didn't understand why the Patreons didn't propose TRUE first for a first react (weird!!), to let you know, it's their SMASH HIT and well-known song in their repertoire. I'm even surprised that in my country (France) the title was ranked no. 3 on the Airplay Chart. Thanks for your great work our American dude. 👍🇫🇷
@@sexysadie2901 I know! Third react! What I'm saying is that people should have made him do the famous TRUE right from the start, which is their most famous song from the 80's! Iconic and cult!
My favorite Spandau Ballet song!
I prefer TRUE! I didn't know this track.
❤
Same here, my favorite SB song for sure 😊
Yes! My favorite!
Without question
Through the barricades is a great song by spandau ballet 🤞🏼
Correct
Der beste Song von ihnen
Their 80’s Anthem…⭐️
Great song, great reaction! A very underrated SB song is "Only When You Leave"
PS the "dove" motif was their logo for the period around the "True" album
I agree wholeheartedly.
One of the most recognizable songs of the 80s!! Along with “True”
The lead singer as smooth as Bryan Ferry....and trust me, that is a compliment. They played their big hit, "True", at my senior prom...I wished my partner could have danced as well as the lead singer sings. 😂
Love love love this song...anytime a great listen!!!
A true classic, no doubt.
To me this song also has one of the best endings in pop history. Plus its extended/12" versions is one of the best ever made.
Love this song, too. And those long notes. And of course, the sax.
I love Spandau Ballet is one of my favorite bands from the 80's, thanks for your reaction ❤️
Oh my goodness. I loved this song! You would love their other hit “Lifeline!”
One of my favorites! So glad you reacted to this one.
One of the best of the best... these are my salad days, slowly being eaten away...... one of my alltime favorite song of the 80's... Toni Hadley provided some of the best male vocals back then.. the whole album with Gold and True was fab.
That song was such a huge hit!!
Wow, a trip back to my teens, I had posters of them in my room, haven't heard them for years! Still a bop! 😀
They have some great reunion videos on UA-cam. Still sound amazing! ua-cam.com/video/oG9ia5KB4cw/v-deo.html
After Spandau Ballet broke up the Kemp Brothers went into acting both appearing in the movie The Krays. Gary went on to play Whitney Houston's manager in The Bodyguard and Martin appeared in a famous British soap opera called EastEnders.
Gary was in the Harold Pinter play The Homecoming in London a few years ago.

@@mr.balloffur true, but after the album they did not match the same succes..

Gran grupo de los 80, este tema es sin dudas, el más famoso, pero eran grandes.....

Gold song and video makes me think of Agent 007 James Bond.. pls also check out "Highly Strung".

Great band!!!!
Duran Duran's archenemy band.
Only in the press, lol. And between the fan factions. But they were all very good friends (and drinking buddies.)
This song is badass.
Check out 'Only When You Leave', great early tracks with more edge 'Chant No.1 (I Don't Need This Pressure On)', 'To Cut A Long Story Short'
Through The Barricades is very much worth listening to.
Another great song by Spandau Ballet: "Fight for Ourselves"
Another great hit single by them, and always really liked the MV as well!
Part of “ROXY MUSIC “ , the second “British Invasion “ of the ‘80s! Their talent, writing, performing, etc., is undeniable!
They ruled the 80’s
I appreciate you, I'm French from Montre\éal, Québec and I respect you because you listen to a lot of French music, merçi beaucoup pour ton appréciaition de la musique francophone. thank you.

this song is classic 80s
The lead singer looks like a young James Bond to me
So good, I had to watch it again.
The girl in the video is actress Sadie Frost. She ended up marrying the guitar / piano player Gary Kemp. Then she left him for actor Jude Law. She later starred in the video for Common People by English band Pulp
If you want more Spandau Ballet, try the rest of their album True.
Dereck you're fab! You always really get it. Thanks for your genuine reactions.
i love it and hat a great voice MR tony hadley
You have to listen to through the barricades by Spandau ballet it's about the troubles in northern Ireland where a friend of theirs died, beautiful song
Kim Wilde Never trust a stranger You Will love IT 😀😀😀
If you want more, try the 12" version
To Cut A Long Story Short is my favourite of theirs
Ooow that's a nice discovery for me. I'll investigate this band a little more.
The Best Song From OST GTA Vice City
One of the most iconic Dance songs (I never listened the original version until today)
Love this song. Check out their Musclebound!
Since you wanted this longer there is actually an extended version
Always liked the 12" version of this
There is a longer "single version" of the song. What you had was the shorter version they use for the video and most radio plays.
Nice .should listen ""calogero...aussi libre que moi"" good job man
You need to check out their song Through The Barricades, it will blow you away!!!
This is a banger!
The 12" Extended Mix is even better and is over 7 minutes long. Look on UA-cam for Spandau Ballet - Gold (Extended 12" Version)
Their first hitsingle (in the Netherlands) and still one of their best was: Chant no 1 (I don't need this pressure on). Great great song. Funky dance song.. and it has something .. dirty/rough. Not the lyrics, can't explain..
I consider this the perfect pop song
Tony Hadley.💕
His vocals are amazing in this song.
You must try, True, a great smooching song😉
It's the typical band of the New Romantics scene, where the singer and musicians seems to come out from Harvard or Wall Street, like OMD or ABC. ^^
Lindo....lo escuchaba todo el tiempo...que recuerdos bellos.....todos sus temas son buenísimos
You gotta do 'True'. Another Classic sing along
You need to react to Through The Barricades
this video clip was recorded in spain
Tony Hadley.........the voice..¡¡
Gotta listen to Chant No.1
Spandau..... ow, not Spandau.... oo
There is a longer version
Derek could you please do either
Dexys midnight runners-cmon Eileen ( its a british party song must have!)
Berlin-Take my breath away
Madness-Baggy Trousers
You have to listen to Kylie, and Jessie Ware Kiss of Life. A disco classic check it out!
Also check out their earlier albums. Their sound was pretty different.
Still not done Through The Barricades?? If you want more, more is here.
Spandau.. you pronounce the last "A". SPAN-da-oh (soft "U").
Pronounced Span- Dow like how?
The extended version is better at 7.23. Spandau Ballet always released an extended version of every single released.
Have you done a Ren Hi Ren reaction?
haha ur adorable to bad i play for the other team lol
James Bond's theme without James Bond.
Goooooldfingerrrr....
Please listen to " the signs of the time " by the belles stars
Merci ! Ecoute le groupe Roxy Music (Jealous Guy (John Lennon), Avalon, More Than This, etc.)

This is not his first reaction to Spandau Ballet.
