- NerdLush interviewed Phil X in September 2012 and got a peak into his home studio. As we wait to publish the interview itself... here's our teaser- take a tour and see where The Drills recorded their upcoming album!
Phil talks a bit about some topics discussed in the interview. You'll have to wait to see what we were talking about...
This guy makes me play better.
girl recording this is all into him right now lol
Where are the Gibson's?
You can see the purple OD pedal I built for Phil at 1:21 on top of his red combo! Also, I am so very grateful to Phil for his donations to the Julian Rock Memorial. His donations have benefited The St Jude Children's Research Hospital. He is one hell of a generous guy.
Good deal man giving away guitars for good causes! Your videos on frettedamerica made me pick up the guitar again! I'm a better pool playing thou!!!!! lmao!
DROID!!
We'll have to agree to disagree. Any woman who is giggling like that at everything a man says is--more often than not--DTF. Biology imperatives override all of that "ethical, practical, philosophical" hoo-ha that you mentioned... always have, always will.
hush you. ya know... if i'd had a camera person... that would not have been an issue cuz they would've made sure we could've shot using one of the real cameras... silly camera person forcing me to resort to using my phone. :P
yes, embarassing. but! this vid was a random quick thing, we didn't grab the actual video cameras
Dude. I have a feeling I will be exactly like you in ten years. I have like a signed issue of Spawn #1 with my Halo toy in the pack on the wall. Oh and fuckin' guitars are everywhere too. I'm telling you dude.
If you lay that JMP on it's back, you can actually bbq on it because it runs so hot
really hate to spoil all your fun guys, but they've been friends for years and there's never been/never will be interest. waaaay too much history
you're very welcome!
So...Thats his secret....a stripper pole...:O
Phil's response to your question- "this is tech talk with NerdLush- that would be Drop G which is very different from Open G. you tune the whole guitar A to A (like E to E) but then drop the low A to a G." Hope that answers your question!
i used to live in an apartment next warner boat sales. in the day time they ran boat motors so the police never came when i cranked my stereo and fender 75. the manager came a couple times though.
that was a funny (but good) interview lol
can you ask phil who/what inspired him to play guitar in the first place and what age was he
thanks
aaron
@slauer34 Can you say my name is Scot Lauer, and I'm 50 years old, and act like a 5th grader. I've learned nothing in life besides gauche tactics to help console the fact that I'm the biggest loser ever. Oh, and my band is Atomic8. Check us out.
January or February is what Phil says Yamaha told him
fuck me it dont take much to make her laugh!!! lol x
The girl with the camera phone was quite clearly DTF.
um... sorry? hanging out with a good friend'll do that.
When the H#*L is the signature yamaha coming out!?
The dude seems cool to chill with. Why you troll?
oh no, that poor marshall..it looks like a wreck...ghostamp!
lol
I will pass on your question to Phil...
great insight into the Demented Phil X!
If you watch the actual interview (I think it's in 7 pieces), I believe we asked him that question in the first or second piece. I know he was asked inspiration and I think he said what age. Enjoy.
Haha Wolverine! :D
Im actually a little more interested in what phil x uses to record his stuff and send over to the producers. Like what interface and external processing units he uses. Anyone know what he was using?
Fuck that phone,I'm tripin!
I love the VH Frankenstrat replica on the wall.
I checked my phone in 5:30
Hey Phil, er, nerd lush maybe you can ask him. What tuning does he tune the short scale guitar too? BTW, tell him Troy Castellano says "what up" (we're on Tommy Lee's latest M.O.M record together). Thanks for the kewl viddy!
wheres his coke?
now we know how Phil stays in shape
Yyyyyeeeeaaaaaaahhhhh
PHILXXXXXX
Love the spiderman magazine!
Excellent video! Phil is the man and comes across as a real good bloke! I have a very similar man cave as well! Thank you for posting this NerdLush
Phil's versatility is untouchable and I think the info at 10:00 proves this out. Phil X ROCKS!
me too!! hahaha
GOODDAMM IT SHOW ME BEHIND THE CURTAIN
That was the calmest I have even seen him say his name.
5:41 Ouch! No no!! Why, is the guitar ok??...
Nice demo. Pedals next time? Or did I moiss something?
I'd be keeping that comic book in a wall safe :-)
your welcome! we hope you enjoy the interview as well
Awesome video. Thank you!! And thanks to Phil!
The interviewer is soooo cute :3
Seems like an awesome place.
Awesome, thank you for posting!
phil is the man!
Great video!
Phil & I have been friends for a a little while now & it's funny how much he & I see eye to eye on guitars, sound & amps. I put a few of his pickups in my older guitars & they are so damn alive now!! True story, they are really amazing pickups.
Those Vipers, really are cool too. I'd never played one until I played his & they were really cool guitars. I love his Yamaha stuff too. The tone woods are really damn nice.
He started at the age of 5 because his father, who plays the guitar, said he's got to learn how to play a musical instrument, so Phil chose the guitar. His first guitar was a teardrop shaped electric guitar.
