  • After Chris removed the seat from his 2015 Sea Doo RXT-X 260 jet ski to replace his seat cover he noticed that the bracket holding the seat onto the ski was broken. Here we show how to replace the bracket so you can get back on the water quick when yours breaks!

My 2016 rxt 260 AS did this. I tried rivets and they failed again. Used stainless bolts / lock nuts this last time. No more issues.

I was about to put in rivets but saw this comment. How did you get the bolts and lock nuts behind that wall? The storage compartment is right behind it
Did you reach all the way up from under the seat?

I have a 2015 GTX 260 is Limited, I just replaced the Seat Cover with a Jettrim Custom Piece, upon disassembly I discovered a similar issue with 2 of the 4 Pop-Rivets Broken and the remaining 2 loose and ready to break. The forward mounting bracket is Aluminum on the GTX and the Bracket itself was unharmed. Rather than using weak Link Pop-Rivets as Sea Doo uses, I chose to install 4 M6 Rivet Nuts Stainless Steel Threaded Rivet Insert Nuts (Rivnuts Nutsert M6-1.0mm) with my Prostormer Rivet Nut Tool (Rivet Gun Reamer Set, 3 in 1 Hand Riveter Nut Setter Kit) and Bolted the Bracket in Place with Stainless Steen Bolts w/ Blue Thread Locker applied. Doing so also accomplished moving the Bracket rearward a few Millimeters (the thickness of the Flange of the Nutserts), by moving the seat rearward slightly improves / increases the Clearence of the Seat Cover and the Trailing edge of the Glove Box (Storage Bin) Lid. My Original Seat Cover got Cut (against the Gove box lid) by the Seat Moving Forward which was caused by the Broken and Loose Pop-Rivets. BTW: I did a similar Modification to the Seat Latch (rear of Seat) which had destroyed itself when the 2 Pop-Rivets Broke and Failed, Had to purchace a New Latch Assembly that is mostly Plastic, I Installed 2 Stainless Steel 6mm x 1.00 Nutserts in the Tail Section of the Seat and cut recess rings in the plastic to allow for the Nutsert Flanges to Recess into using a "Rotabroach" spot weld cutter. These Modifications / Repairs are much Stronger than Pop-Rivets and the Bolts can be simply removed if needed at a later date. AKA: randog311

@@3ftDeepChannel Thanks for the Compliment. I replaced the 2 worn-out 6m Expansion Nuts (OEM) at the Deck/Lateral Arm Mounting Points while I was there. I also noticed that where the lateral Arms attached to the Seat... The Plastic Holes leading to the Floating Nuts were getting "Hogged-Out" by the Bolts. As a solution and long term fix, I ordered a short length of Stainless Steel Tubing online (6mm ID x 8mm OD) and cut a pair of short pieces, drilled out the Plastic Holes to 8mm and inserted the DIY Bushings I made, Problem Solved! (BTW: I applied Blue Thread Locker to the Threads of the 4 x 6mm Bolts that secure the Lateral Arms. AKA: randog311

This is somthing i just experienced. My absorbor cracked at the where the swivle bolts hold in the seat s shock support, not sure of the name of it. Any how i prefer the nut and bolt instead of the rivets. And lowering of the bracket is key. My glove box is always getting stuck.

Hey I’m trying to get the screws out of the bracket on the seat. One came out but the nut inside is gone. The other just spins and won’t come out. Welcome any input here for both problems.

Not sure why I watched this. I own a Kawasaki. Haven’t had to fix anything yet.

You watched it to support our channel! BTW, we don’t get comments from many Kawi owners. How do you like your machine so far? What year is it?

@@3ftDeepChannel Love the Kawasaki for the instant torque and reliability, wish I waited for the new ones though. Good stuff on your channel!

Perhaps Kawasaki simply Builds a better Machine? or Perhaps your particular Year and Model (we still don't know what Year and Model of Kawasaki you own is?) doesn't produce enough Power to Stress components to find the "weak links"? or Perhaps you don't Pilot your Ski Aggressively enough to Break anything? BTW: I purchased my 2015 Sea Doo GTX 260 is Limited late April of 2020 with 54 Hours, it now has 149 Hours as of this Posting and hasn't been ridden since early December 2021 do to Travel, Winter and needing to completely replace the the rear (Drum) Brakes and Hydraulic Lines on my 1993 K1500 Pickup which I just completed earlier this week. Now I find that the HOA is having the Docks at our Launch Ramp rebuilt, This morning temperatures droped to 39 Degees F and has risen to a Steamy 47 Degees@ not quite 11 AM. AKA: randog311
