This is a great hack to learn for players who get whistled for traveling in games a lot. The breakdown at around 3:30 is a great example because you're putting the ball on the floor in running stride. On a stop and rip through most guys will put themselves in position to drag that pivot foot because they have given the defender time to recover and are in a rush to take advantage of the last second of opening downhill that's left. Now a good way not to travel on a stop and rip through is to hop into the pass with a two foot jump stop because you can choose which foot you want to be your pivot and are likely to keep it still once that first dribble is complete.
I think this is a great point. Something I will also note is that since starting to play Pro in Finland, I realize refs outside of the US are even MORE likely to call travels. The earlier you learn proper footwork, the better!
@@TuckerRichardson Agreed. A lot of coaches in the U. S need to do drills regarding proper footwork at all levels because guys who play pro overseas will get whistled even more if not
@@PrivateBeatz Well knowing these tips are a start. Also it allows you to use your body to keep the defender out of the play because some will try to get back in the play, so work on keeping your off hand activated and crowding trailing defender's airspace. Keep driving angles tight.
This is my 7th video of yours i watched in a row without stopping. Thank you for giving us this advice that is simple to say, simple to learn, and simple to apply. 5'10 8th grader. Skinng build but trying to improve in any way i can.
Great question! Maybe I should have addressed this in the video. I think it starts with watching a lot of college basketball in general, because then you'll be able to find guys who has a similar game to you. So once you see someone and think "hmm, the way he plays isn't that different from how I play, and he's at the level I want to be at," then you know you have someone you can take a deeper look at. Hope this helps!
I love this... I'm trying to figure out how to get my son to learn more basketball at the age of 14, we cant really afford any clinic or any form of schooling
Thank you! UA-cam is such a great resource for learning anything. I have learned so much in so many different subjects from watching UA-cam videos. You can literally search anything, learn how to get better at a certain basketball skill, and your son can start working on it right away. The beauty of the game is all you need is a ball and a hoop to get better!

I don't think that the body fake to get a steal at the inbound pass is a good play, especially when trying to form the right habits to help your teammates. If you only get 1 in 10 plays a layup, than 9 out of 10 times you weaken your defense. 2 or 3 quick passes and they have a wide open man
Hmmm I disagree, I don't think it weakens your defense. As long as it is just a quick show to take the PG away, then you run back to your man and nothing happens. So yeah, usually you won't get the steal, but that is really worst case scenario. I do this play all the time and have never really found myself out of position.
The DraftMatic posts full college games thank me later
Appreciate this!
Thank you bro
Do you know of any channel that posts full NBA games?
THANK YOU

at 5:00, what do you mean “taking away the point guard”?
I mean denying him the pass so someone else on the team has to bring the ball up.
