    If you follow us on social media, you know that Lito has recently chosen to fuse with Jonathan. He is still in the intro because we didn't have time to change it on such short notice. Hopefully next week's intro will better represent the current state of the system. -Wyn

    Stardew Valley and The Sims is something I play during stressful times. When it comes to anxiety music often helps me get through. A huge thing I do is reach out to a friend I know is safe and supportive. When I am depressed that's really hard for me to do because I tend to isolate myself and shut myself away, but it's something I try to force myself to do because I know it is self care to let safe people in, not push them away. It reminds me that I do deserve to have meaningful friendships in my life. That's something I'm currently working on. -Dani.

    When we are super stressed out and in danger of spinning out further... we clean. Like uber clean with a toothbrush on the grout type cleaning. This is actually due to one of our trauma triggers, but it gives the hands something to do, and also gives us a sense of being able to control our environment when we feel utterly out of control. We also listen to music, but that depends upon which of us is fronting at the time. Each of our alts has a different taste in music. So one of the ways that you can tell which person is fronting is by which music we're listening to- which varies from classical to 80s rock to heavy metal and 20s and 30s jazz. One of our big stress relievers is to take a long hot bath at night- a bubble bath, with candles and our little yellow rubber duck. Our Littlest likes to play with Legos, Play-Doh and color or finger paint. So, it really depends upon which one of us is fronting and who is the most stressed out at any given point in time. When all else fails, we can always depend upon our kitty to comfort us and provide purr therapy. Oh, Kim-Kim! You need to look into chai tea. It's warm and creamy and spicy and just a really incredible drink!

    TRIGGER WARNING (health issues and reference to ED. No details)
    I think most of what I'm about to talk about is coping strategy rather than 'self-care' but in my mind, since I'm choosing 'healthier' coping strategies that is a form of self-care. My situation is a bit unusual because I'm bedridden and I have limited use of my arms too, also I suffer from sensory sensitivity because of a combination of ASD , my mental illness and my physical illness. A good portion of my time has to be spent totally still, in complete silence and darkness, trying to have as little sensory input as possible and to be totally honest I'm still working on how to practise self-care for depression, anxiety and stress when I'm stuck like that, especially when flashbacks and trauma loops occur, but just in case there happens to be anyone else ina similar situation reading this here are one or two things.... I practise breathing exercises, I try to meditate, I make lists in my head but for 'silly things' not shopping lists or to-do lists.. things like " What ten books do I wish I'd written?" I also allow myself to daydream in this particular way that I don't really allow any other time where I build a new me and a new life in detail in my mind, I plan projects, I mentally work on my writing or my music or my art, I imagine myself being transported into a book I love and basically anything else to distract myself and pass the time.
    When I'm able to tolerate light and sound I watch something comforting or something that might help me get rid of some adrenaline with a good cry. I write A LOT! I make things to send to other bedridden people who have less mobility or who are just in need of a pick me up, we call it 'happy mail', I make 'art' I'm not good at it but I enjoy it, I work on my vocal rehab and try to make music, I listen to a pod cast or watch UA-cam, work on my TBR list, I bury myself in research, I eat something I love that's also good for me and I try to tailor it to my specific need depending on what's going on. I make herbal teas and tinctures, and use my essential oils, I use guided meditation, I do 'witchy stuff' too, When I'm able I might reach out to a friend, I spend time with my son and my dog, I might give myself a treat like homemade stevia-sweetened chocolate if I get through the day using healthy coping strategies, I try to avoid 'sweets' too often because even though I don't eat sugar and the stevia-sweetened chocolate isn't actually bad for me it can still be a trigger for a comfort eating mentality to slip back in, however sometimes it works well as a positive reinforcement. I also try to take extra time on things like skincare and self-massage (especially for lymphatic drainage, ) I make a list of everything I love or that brings me any measure of joy, I have a specific notebook that I do that in so that I can keep them ( When I'm depressed that list can be literally nothing but reading previous ones can remind me that I DO enjoy something about my life or life in general and that I will again because I can go back and physically see other times I've said "Nothing" but then eventually written a list again)
    Before I lost mobility, anxiety was much easier to combat for me and my self-care involved anything I enjoyed that got rid of that adrenaline, dancing, hiking, trampolining, running around with my dog or hitting my punching bag, cleaning, whatever. Cooking was another big thing for both anxiety and depression. I loved to cook and I really enjoy feeling like I can control something so big like my bodies fuel. I used to get that feeling of control in very unhealthy ways but then I started combining my love of research and my love of cooking to use food as a 'medicine; almost. Anxiety and depression can be really helped by great nutrition that is tailored to your needs in my opinion. Anyway, that was a lot, I'm sorry but writing this did help with my anxiety so...... :)

      Rebecca- you are the first comment I read on this video.. and TOTALLY YES!! I use all your tools as well with my anxiety! I think you are amazing to take what hinders you to help others. I use a lot of those tools, but I have also been going to "yin yoga" (I call it nap time yoga) bc it's so gentle and makes you stay still and take time for yourself. I also love music. I have a handful of songs that when I listen and get into them, I'll start smiling by the end of the song and I could've been in tears. And yes, food! One of the things I've learned in my journey is to keep yourself fueled. Emotions are easier to negotiate on a full tummy than not and I find good food can give my system a boost (it doesn't even have to be "healthy" necessarily, but maybe giving into a craving I cant shake) . All in all, both of your systems are amazing and I'm so glad we can try to relate and find support in each other!!!

    Idk if this counts, but one of the ways I deal with depression is doing things in, like, tiny steps. Like, sit up, then put your feet on the floor, then stand up, then walk to the door, then open the door, then walk down the hall, etc etc etc. It just helps to make things seem easier when “go eat breakfast” just feels like too much.

    So I suffer with many different mental illnesses and depending on which one I'm dealing depends on what I'm going to do. Like for depression I will listen to sad music (ik that sounds counter productive but it helps me), or watch videos on UA-cam or TikTok because I'll have little to no energy. But if my anxiety is acting up it's typically because of my thoughts so I try and keep myself busy. I do that by working on one of my stories or painting/drawing. Sometimes I'll work on my witchy stuff if I'm not drained and have enough energy. I'll also listen to music but typically something not sad lol. Sorry that this was long winded 😅.

      Ahhhh not the same thing, but when I'm overwhelmed by people around me (like, after fights) I put loud rock on my headphones, and that makes me feel like I have control. I feel myself relaxing when I do that, because I'm just gonna hear something someone is saying If I choose to pause the music. I'm not gonna hear anything out of the blue, I'll always know when it's coming. And that helps A LOT, 'cause then I don't need to be prepared to something that can hurt me or stress me out at anytime. Not having to be ready all the time means being able to relax. That's how loud music and headphones help me.

    For us, wearring hats helps A LOT. I don't know why, one day my bf told me that everyone in our system, when scared or to stressed, is reaching for something to put on our head. I have my leopard winter hat, my co-host like her pokemon snapback, ect that we put somewhere visible and easy to reach in case of a flashback for exemple. If we are in a public setting or not at a safe place, we talk to each other out loud something along those lines of:" I understand why you feel this way, but right now is in appropriate to react like this. Can you hold on to those feelings for when we'll get home?"
    I have a question: I'm the oldest in my system, being 25, do you have any advice for littles/ teen alters to encourage them to run errands/do chores?

    • @TheEntropySystem
      @TheEntropySystem  4 роки тому +13

      When Kim Kim was younger, we gave her an allowance to encourage her to do chores. If she swept the kitchen floor every day she could get two packs of Pokémon cards that Saturday. Perhaps that will help your younger alters too?

    • @sergentminia2167
      @sergentminia2167 4 роки тому +2

      @@TheEntropySystem we already have a "productive notebook" where we write each other every night what we have to do the next day. Every chore is 1 point and at 500pts there's a reward for each alter, altering between us. We have a 5yo and a 10yo, the thing is: when it's not their turn to get the reward, both of them prefers play video games and the day me and the older ones are fronting we have like 15 points to get that day...
      Contrary to what we've been rise with, I prefer using showing the exemple and positive renforcement with them. But it seems like it's not enough for specifically the 2 of them. We have a full time minimum wage job so I cant buy them a stuff animal for exemple every time they're doing something right lol

      There are apps that turn doing real life stuff into an RPG game and reward you with currency. You then set real life rewards that you will let yourself have in exchange for that currency (for example ‘I can buy myself that book I want for 300 coins’). The one I’m using at the moment for myself and my system is called Do it now but there are several on both iOS and Android. There are also apps for parents to set up for kids that work in a similar way of earning rewards for doing real life stuff. It’s like the tech age version of a reward chart. I don’t know if that would be helpful for your littles and teens?

      @@gabeangel8104 i've used habitica and really enjoyed it but i started it with someone and they fell off of it pretty quickly, which was discouraging, but if you're looking to someone to chat with i think they have like a bunch of different forms of groups to befriend people in the little groups online, and i would feel a lot better returning to it with someone, but that's kinda a dependence thing

  • @keetyalexx

    Pokemon is great for me too. The show or the games, both bring me so much joy and always have. Most video games help a lot, actually. A lot of my self care has to do more with pain than emotion - I have a stomach disorder so I’m in pain for at least part of every day. I curl up around a pillow or a stuffed animal (anything very soft, I find super comforting/grounding) and watch a show on my phone, usually the West Wing or something with Gordon Ramsay. If my heart rate is up and I can’t seem to calm down, I go cuddle the dog or sit near my mom, both things that remind me things are okay. When all else fails, I have 2048 on my phone and books of sudoku and coloring books that usually work to calm me down by forcing me to think about something and then do it. I also really like saying nice things to other people. Being kind and making other people happy can really elevate my mood.

    I really liked this video! I relate to a lot of these, like using cleaning as a way to feel better and stay present, as well as reading tarot cards and taking hot baths. One of the biggest challenges for me was learning that changing my mindset was a form of self care. I had to reshape my perspective on myself and my abilities if I was going to even start doing things that were good for me... and that was really tough! But fostering a positive & informed mindset leads to a lot of fruit, so it was worth it! This was a really lovely video to watch, thanks for posting! :)

    Loved this video so much! I have been doing makeup, using my lightbox (for my seasonal depression) and lately mindfulness for my emotional self. When I start to feel triggered or stressed I ask my self what part of me is triggered or stressed. (Even singlets have aspects to our identities that we can sometimes identify.)
    I then ask myself “what is I need in this moment?” And then do my best to give myself what I need. Most of the time I’m finding that it means standing up for myself when I feel wronged or invalidated by someone. I’m slowly building trust in myself to go with my instincts and listen to my emotions to be a barometer for my needs.

    I've always heard this utensil theory as "spoon theory," but honestly I really enjoy how much fork sounds like another word. If I say to someone "I don't have enough spoons for this!" They'll be confused, and I just don't always have the spoons to explain what not having enough spoons means. Most people won't bat an eye if you say "I don't have enough forks to give" but they'll kind of get the general idea of what you're trying to say

    • @TheEntropySystem
      @TheEntropySystem  4 роки тому +1

      Fork theory is a bit different than spoon theory. With spoons, when you spend them that’s it. You’re out. With forks you spend them you usually get forks back. For example, a shower may cost 3 forks but will give you 10 forks once you finish it. If you can shower you’re up by seven forks! But if you don’t have the three to pay up front then you can’t shower even if you know it will give you more.

Eventually, I'm completely ready without even realizing it.

I'd look up Twin Mask's november trailer for a short good example of what it can look like

    What's funny is we also tend to clean when we get stressed or anxious, even depressed. Our caretaker alter, Yadira, cleans the house up and down because she knows it's a comfort for all of us. So, when I, the host tend to feel any sort of the negative emotions I can struggle with at times, I can hear her studdering to say "L-Let's clean." So, we tend to clean and before I know it , our whole house is spotless lol . Video games and music is a big one for us as well, not to mention Alicia, our gatekeeper, uses a stress relief tea she tends to get for us on occasion to help with stress :)

    How do I take care of myself and cope with shit?
    Depression: Not well. I thought I was doing great with this because I had a good solid year where I largely felt great. But it's returning lately and GOD I forgot how hard this shit is! Ugh, I'm doing my best. I need to actually remember how to take care of myself. the apathy is overwhelming.
    Stress: When I'm depressed, HORRIBLY. When I'm not as depressed or feeling good, pretty well! I've been a lot better and just pausing and taking a deep breath and then analyzing the situation and breaking down the steps. Whether it's my ED and I'm in a cafeteria and I'm overwhelmed, or suddenly i"m super busy and have no time to process everything, I've gotten better at breaking things into smaller more manageable steps.
    I can usually tell how well I'm coping by how consistently I do my skincare routine. If I'm doing that twice a day, I'm dandy. If I am not even doing it once a day I'm starting to struggle more.

    I personally don't have HEALTHY coping skills for dealing with anxiety, I will either eat a lot, or nothing at all. I was anorexic back in high school, and it conditioned me to think in a way that "If I have hunger to think about, I can't be stressed"
    I guess it depends on anxiety or stress, because when I'm anxious all I can do is eat, and stress, the opposite

    I have generalized anxiety and i think depression. Ive been in a real dark place lately. I have days like yesterday where no matter how much i sleep,im still tired. Some of my favourite things to do when im anxious is take a hot bubble bath and blare my music. It just helps me feel at oeace while listening to my favourite songs. Video games have really helped me lately. I've been really into Kingdom Hearts and have beat all three games within a span of 4 months. Theres so much to do in it and so many side quests. Im trying to beat the DLC right now and working towards earning Ultima Weapon. I usally deal with anxiety by distracting myself. Or if a need to talk it out i call my grandma who is my absolute rock. Shes 86 i think and still has her mind. I get all my sarcasm and sassiness from her. I can honestly talk with her for hours. She can make me calm down and relax instantly.

  • @RialVestro

    Regarding the whole "Playing video games to get your mind off other things" you mentioned in this video...
    I do that too but some times I feel like I might be playing my game TOO much... like I realize there are other things I need to be doing but if I'm feeling over whelmed by real life it's some times just easier to lose myself in a game. When I was home over Christmas I was just like... I need to take out the trash BUT GAME I can do that later... and then I never took out the trash... actually one of my alters finally took out the trash for me.
    Or just the opposite, there are some days when I log on the game, and then five minutes later I'm wishing I never even got out of bed. It's freaking awful when I feel so depressed that I can't even play a video game.

    What’s the difference between Fork Theory and Spoon Theory? (They sound basically the same?)

    • @TheEntropySystem
      @TheEntropySystem  4 роки тому +2

      With Spoon Theory you pay spoons to do an activity and when you're out you're out. With Fork Theory (which applies more to mental health than physical) you pay Forks to do an activity and that activity gives you forks back. For example, a shower may give you ten forks, but to get in the shower it costs you three. If you can take the shower then you've gained seven Forks. Yay! But if you don't have the three up front then you can't take the shower even though you know it will give you Forks back.

    • @FiorLabhair
      @FiorLabhair 4 роки тому +1

      The Entropy System thanks for explaining! As a spoonie I could see that this could get complicated though if you don’t have enough spoons to spend the forks... yikes. 😬 🥄 🍴

      Fork theory is like spoon theory, but for mental things instead of physical.

    • @shayelea
      @shayelea 4 роки тому +1

      Cat Lynn I think the difference is that Fork Theory says if you can spend some forks in productive ways, you’ll get back forks in return. Whereas with Spoon Theory you can spend or borrow spoons, but eventually you’ll run out - spending spoons does not have the same possibility of returning on your investment that spending forks does. That to me is why it merits its own version rather than just being spoons. It’s possible for people to need both spoons and forks and some activities require a bit of both!

Iure people in at the same time I push people away. I feel like I will never know and meet the real me. I am just walking around in this so called person suit.

You got it😉😉😉 It doesn t necessarily have to make logical sense, we just are, and keep on being, and that s enough. Sometimes it s painful, and all the other times it s blissful. Whoever we are❤
