2340 was insane. The 2160 by Luka with the triple cork and mataj with the sw butter 2160 was so insane. The level of skiing is crazy. And the fact they are all only 20 years old is wild
I wanna live in a world where Style counts more than spin to win. Alex Hall I love you from the bottom of my heart for keeping it real ❤️ And Matej was robbed here imo
Even Troy Podmilsak said that he was “terrified, I do not want to be doing these tricks” at 17:06. Doing a spin to win contest is not as entertaining as it once was. We should be watching athletes perform tricks that actually add style and flair into their jumps. It’d make it far more entertaining for the athletes and viewers
I think you're looking at that trick with rose colored lenses. Yes, zero spins are hard, they look scary, and most of all, very sick. But they're not *that* hard to do. 42 was a pretty bang on score I'd say. Think about it like this. If a random skier that knows how to do zero spins on park jumps show ups to X and poaches this jump with an ultimate sendy attitude and no fear, they could most likely land a zero spin on the big air jump. That same person is not landing a triple bio 18.
Matej came in switch, tail buttered, did 6 full rotations, 3 head dips, and got a safety grab. Luca came in forward with no butter, 6 full rotations, 3 head dips, and a tail grab. So a tail grab scores higher than comin in switch, buttering, and getting a safety grab? Makes no sense to me. Matej should have gotten silver. All the love for Luca though.
Well, There is more to judging than that But if we are talking about the grab only There is a huuuge amount of difficulty added in capping that tail compared to tucking down and grabing under your boot. The body is in another position, you need to find the tail while spinning 2160 and capping it right on the tip of the ski. But the butter adds difficulty for sure so not going to argue about which one should have won. However switch vs forward doesnt make much difference
I get you, the point is, doing something unique and if ur trick has never been done because its so difficult then it just makes sense to win it with that one
The fact that Luca CAPPED blunt on that triple 23 should've won him the gold imo. Craziest Big Air of all time right here tho can't lie shouts out to everyone competing!
Yeah kind of, but I feel like a nbd by rotation is more impressive than an nbd by way of takeoff. I love matej, I think he should’ve got silver, but not win
@@coc.enjoyer21 but it had been done, in the first round, much cleaner the first time. shouldn't result in the same score with a botched landing. I get it's hard to judge these insanely difficult tricks but by definition, you can't score that a 98
Seeing these young bloods ABSOLUTELY crush it AND display exceptional sportsmanship at the same time, was beautiful to watch. Gives me some added faith in the upcoming generation❤️🔥
Exactly its spin to win if you don’t like it go watch a stylish video part. But thats what this is. Kookiest thing saying this is terrible for the sport. It’s great for the sport the big air comps this year are the BEST to have ever happened. History has been made.
Then watch knuckle huck instead 🤷🏻♀️ tons of creativity there. No one is forcing you to watch this. The impressive thing is not style but that someone is willing to put their life on the line. Also, no one is forcing the skiers to compete in this either. They all obviously want to win really bad
@@Metallictacoshut up, you can do high spins and have more style anyway. check matej or the second place trick. italian guy is literly just doing ariel skiing
At least theyre telling us that yes, big air is going to be the spin to win event, deal with it. We get to see some new atheletes that wont be in the slope event so its cool.
All the people crying about Spin to win, difficulty is difficulty. I can do a 1080 no problem, I can’t fathom spinning over 2100. Plus there IS some merit to “first time in competition” - it’s not like next year we’re guaranteed to have another full rotation, the allure of the trick will have lessened by then. And if someone CAN manage another full rotation….shooooooot…. More power to them.
I miss the times when guys where inventing pre-grab stuff, doing unique grabs on rotations, shifties and other stuff. I can still see Henrick's first ever nose butter tripple, which was stylish as mf... We need those back! The format probably doesn't give a blessing for it. BRING BACK NATURAL AND UN-NATURAL ROTATIONS!!! This format is just for spin to win instead of style, beauty and arts of ski air tricks... Shout out to Dylan trying some more interesting and craaaazy looking rotation, it's not all about corks
Big Airs cooked... no creativity no "Free" style. Just add the seconds of the grab to the spinning rotation and you get the score. Like 8 people doing the same trick is boring af. And bring back style trick!!!
It seems to me that this jump is significantly under built for the tricks those guys are throwing.. Mad respect for the new tricks and progression of the sport by these guys but the spin to win really isn’t as fun to watch as these comps used to be…
The format should be one big trick and one style trick with a limit on the rotation to make everyone happy, also I find it more exciting when the final is everyone not just 4 skiers
i liked it better when alex hall spin to winn'ed these. :( you guys clowned him for spinning years ago and its still effecting his preformances...... (imo)
Interesting that big air snowboarders have caught up with skiers. Just a few years ago ski rotations were generally a rotation or two more than the snowboarders. Now the top skier and the top boarder drop 23s! Insane

Gotta respect dylan deschamps for throwing those bios. Insane rotation for that booter.
DOOM!

A whole lotta blind in that spin, compared to a lot of the flatspins and multicorks where dudes had all day looking at the landing.

just insane the switch 0 got rated so low, not rotating almost always makes big jumps harder
42.0 was the correct score

A lot of people waste their time watching football and basketball, but the X Games is where its at!!!! These guys are REAL athletes!
Crazy to watch tpod compete here, this dude taught me how to do a dub 12 when he was 13 years old
So much talent. I'd just wish that its not so much about "how many times can you spin?". Sometimes a 360 looks so much cleaner than those 2160's
Yeah but that’s the point of the event. And they all can do a 360. Not all a tail 21

2340 in the final the landing was not that clean, bullshit that they again gave a 98.

It's because they give high scores to NBD tricks, especially NBD rotations. Even if the landing isn't perfect. That's just how it works 🤷♂

I can’t lie, I found Luca and Metej’s 2160’s more impressive than that 2340.
love this big air, cant wait for whats next
