I think the reason why so many G1 fans are upset over G3 is because they never got closure. When G1 ended, it wasn’t because the brand had reached its natural conclusion and was ready to start over, it was because they were pressured into it by angry moms who thought the dolls were too “sexy” So Mattel rebranded them to be “cuter” When G1 was cancelled, it was very much still going strong, and even had a planned crossover with Ever After High, which means we could’ve had EAH/MH dolls. Me personally, I’m really happy with where G3 is going, but there’s always a part of me that wonders what could have been if the Karens didn’t sabotage G1.
THIS! I feel like people think that if you don't love g3 they think you're hating just for the sake of it, like no, I'm upset because g1 still had so much going for it, it 12 years later and it still feels incomplete.
Oh so true. I don't see as big a percentage of MLP fans hating on the current generation of MLP because they got a closure.

@@gingerdog8203 true, but scalpers are making it hard for just about anyone to get one. Mattel needs to limit the amount of dolls people purchase on their online store somehow, I want the drama reel Clawdeen but I've seen no sign of her in stores.
They really could’ve had more fun with clawdeen’s hair when it came to styling, like some nice long braids or thick locks would’ve been cute. The hair color I can forgive, a thicker/coily hair would’ve been nice tho but maybe in the near future they release lines where her hair is done in a protective style
Male dolls being boring is such a mood. I want to like masc/male dolls but they’re always so bland. They could be soooo much better, almost always. I just don’t get why they have to look like boring straight man in normal everyday clothes.
Honestly I love this Deuce so much just because his look actually has some remnant of a personality???? Like idk og Deuce never appealed to me bc he just looked so bland and generic?? Like oh yeah normal looking punk guy with snake hair greeeeat. I like that his skin is green bc it gives him more of a monster feel (Again G1 Deuce just looked to me like a man...with a snake cap...while all they girls were super stylized and ghoulish) but rven then he looks so bland??? Why do all male fashion dolls need to be inspired by straight white american male fashion?? You want to lean into the dark and intimidating character with a heart of gold???? Make him look like am early 2000 kpop music video or give him some more hades-esque aesthetics IDK just... this guy looks like he is a skater boy and she said see you later boy instead of an indepth character that looks kinda scary but is actually baby. Also ISTG LET MEN WEAR EYELINER YOU COWARDS!!
@@Aros4 agreed - this Deuce is actually decent for a male doll. but the bar is so low for what qualifies as decent LOL Mens fashion is (can be) so fun, look at designers like Thom Browne who plays with shape and gender, scale and perspective. I don't necessarily need a male doll to be an avant garde fashionista but just anything more than "here's some velcro jeans and a velcro tshirt"

Neighthan Rot is a perfect example of hot to do a male doll right. I love every single thing about his design and as a doll he was so much fun, forever will be one of my favorites
Personally I was always thrown off by how different the head molds for male dolls are especially in stylized dolls
I’m excited for Toralei being a singer personally. I feel like her only personality really in G1 was cunning bully, and I feel like she’d be fun to either be not a bully or at least have something outside of that

I’m a bit sad that they made Lagoona completely unrecognizable, compared to the minor changes they did to the other ghouls redesigns. She was my favorite doll when I was younger and I really loved her color scheme and design. I don’t mind this new design on its own, but it kinda sucks that they’ll never make another doll that looks like that.
Yeah, she was my favourite when I was younger I loved her sporty style a lot, I've even ended up incorporating some of her style into mine as an adult, unintentionally but clearly she had an impact 😆 and the fact she had barely any pink in her design was a win because I really didn't like that colour as a kid 😅 now she's everything my younger self didn't enjoy about dolls 🥲 I think Cleo is my g3 favourite now because Lagoona isn't Lagoona to me anymore 🤷🏻♀️
Right? Disappointment galore. While I couldn't relate to her sportiness, I appreciated that even a cool, confident, awesome person like Lagoona had her own struggles.
If making Lagoona latina was because of representation, then they could've easily made her aboriginal and kept her nationality as Australian. They might as well create a whole new cast for G3 if they're planning on changing everything core to their characters.

I am so sorry to hear that you suffered attacks from reboot haters. Toxic nostalgia really permeates every corner of fandom these days. I personally started doll collecting only a year ago with the rather obscure Cave Club and then OMGs and Rainbow High so I'm completely new to Monster High but personally I just love the design of those dolls and I can't wait to get them.
for real! even people just casually posting about any kind of excitement or positivity they have for g3 will attract random commenters who will go out of their way to insult them for daring to like something that's different than what they grew up with, even when it comes to the smallest of changes. nostalgia really sucks, it makes people so blind and mean :(

honestly i agree for the most part. if anything my biggest complaint is how the fashion is a little basic and feels like its meant to appeal to tiktokers if that makes sense, but im not opposed to it, i just wish it were a bit edgier and more fun. i think thats why draculaura appeals a lot for her bangs alone, thats sort of an alt style type of bang to do. all around im excited and impatient, i love them so much and i missed monster high so much.
I'm nonbinary and disabled, I've been a fan of the franchise since the beginning and Frankie was always my favorite of the main ghouls bc Frankenstein's Monster and The Bride were my favorite classic horror monsters growing up. I'm so excited for the direction they're taking Frankie in, and glad that they kept their preppy-punk look. I'm very happy to see people like you being positive and receptive towards g3, it's like a breath of fresh air.
I'm disabled and I'm she/they and I love what they did for Frankie, I love them now I used to hate them but I love their new personality and style and hight lol

Yeah it seems they always tend to design Frankie around major pop rock artists of the time. G1 reminds me of Avril Lavigne and G3 Olivia Rodrigo.

I actually love G3 Draculaura, Cleo and Lagoona. I got both Cleo and Draculaura and on the look out for Lagoona. My main criticism is the facial screening. In store, there are a few that have crooked screenings and misshapen eyes.
Cleo is the only good one.
My opinion on Lagoona’s redesign she looks like cotton candy and I love cotton candy colors
I'm so excited for a new generation of monster high. The dolls are adorable and the show looks promising (even if they did my boy heath dirty but i'm holding on hope that his future doll will at least look cute).
Very hot take: but I love all the boots and flat shoes because while they’re not heels, they’re so much more fun than what dolls usually get for flat shoes. They have bright colors and all have unique treads so there is so much effort into each one. And I have hopes we will see heels in the future.
My biggest complaint for Clawdeen is that lighter purple/pink section. I just HATE that color and I can’t explain why. But poly also sucks.
I’m honestly still shook that MATTEL of all companies put out this level of quality…

The irony isn't lost of me that my least favorite shoes (Drac's and Cleo's) are the only ones with heels. Cleo def deserves some golden gladiator pumps down the line, but otherwise I'm excited to see how they evolve their shoe game.
I think one of the main reasons for them to not include diaries in G3 was that the age requirement for the dolls maintained the G2 age targetting, therefore Mattel, aside from the obvious budgetting, are refraining from including big chunks of texts in the packaging and in the product itself to not overwhelm little children (Who are the ones the playline dolls are aiming to please mostly)

The only thing that bothers me with the new dolls is that i wish clawdeens hair was thicker and more tightly curled. Something like 3c hair. But to be fair that's something that bothered me with the original howleen as well haha . I do love how draculaura is the shortest of the main girls and how shes a little heavier! Especially if shes still vampire vegetarian. Most of the time vegetarians are portrayed as super skinny and 'healthy' so its nice to something that goes against that! :D
I also heard that Draculaura is half Asian? If that’s true I think the choice to make the Asian character heavier than the rest of the cast was the right one. So often asian women are put in this box of having to be short and thin and dainty, and I think it’s a nice deviation from those expectations.

Honestly I’ve had faith in this reboot since I saw their janky live action designs! As someone who’s always enjoyed fashion dolls from an outside perspective (stealing my little sister’s dolls to dress up when we were younger) I think I’m probably WAY more open to big changes than the average person who actually collected them, because I’m totally just here for the chaos

I was a very skeptical person at first, but I really love Frankies new look! somehow being more colorful really fits them! I love the use of pink and blues and there are tons of cool concepts you can do with their prosthetic.
I can't get over the color of new lagoonas skin (in a good way!) I love how crispy? crisp & pearly the pink is, her hair is also adorable! as well as her face sculpt. though I really don't like her outfit.

I’ve been having a bit of rediscovery with Monster High as of late, and I’m one of the few OG fans that’s really excited for the G3 dolls.
The dolls, for the most part, look really good. The quality looks much higher than what Mattel usually gives us at the moment, which is great. I also love the non-binary representation with Frankie’s character and doll, same with the representation with disabilities. I don’t love the fact that Clawdeen has polypropylene though… 💀
I hope to see other G1 characters return for this reboot! 💖
what does it mean that she has polypropylene?
@@vivivalley it’s a hair type that companies use for dolls. Polypropylene is considered the worst hair type as it’s considered brittle, coarse, stiff, and hard to take care of. To add on to that, as years go on, the hair dry rots (which means the doll will eventually go bald).
Notable examples of dolls that use this hair type include many MGA dolls released between 2008-2014, The Jakks Winx Club dolls, Current Barbie dolls, and older dolls like Zodiac Girlz.

My little sister tried to play with her clawdeens doll hair and that basically ruined it, I felt so bad for her lol I braided it for her though so it looks a bit better if you ignore the bald spots
I love these designs. Definitely the 20s reboot MH deserves. Of course nothing can top the OGs considering my bias for 00-10s fashion, but this is the best step in the right direction for teens and tweens of THIS age.
Id love it if in the next waves theyd focus on "monster" more fashion wise. Like most of them have warmer tones now. Less death, less cold... They need more curly and short hair too!
personally, i think the new gen is CUTE, but in the end, ends up pretty bland. there's so much going on yet it comes together to be much less than the sum of its parts, and overall the sort of... bite? the original had that made it appealing really only remains in a few of the dolls . im just generally not a fan of trying to "modernize" characters by removing the edgier styles and the gothic, punky and emo stroked from their outfits, as if these fashion subcultures are not only alive and well, but more common than ever... i think that to do that well, they had to lean into that deeper with some characters and less so with others (i personally think lagoona is one of the best examples! i like how silly she looks. its great! and draculaura & frankie are easily my favorite of them all.)
however, i think cleo looks actually abysmal. theres way too much going on just for it to not look particularly striking or dramatic. dont like her.
Both g2 and g3 seem to assume kids hate altarnative fashion even tho its litrealy the oppsite-i mean look at e-girl n e-boys lol
I noticed even some horror movies are starting to lose their edge as time goes and i just dont get it- goth/punk subcultures are still very much alive and people still love that fashion why do companies not use it for their advantage??
I think you hit the nail in the head. And I would compare it a bit with hot topic, which now sells things more akin to anime fans and I think the new alt lies in that subculture. Monster high in my opinion also seemed to be for that same type of ‘alt’ audience, back then emo and goth were what was considered alternative and as such the dolls had a more horror-esque look, now alt is more anime looking hence the new dolls.
My only complaints with GEN 3 are the pink in Frankie’s design and just Ghoulia in general tbh. Oh and some (sports set especially) of the BUDGET dolls are ugly but like… it’s Mattel specifically monster high and they’re budget sooo…

@@s1mm0n I love the trans pride colours and I always headcanoned Abby as a trans woman because she’s just such a gorgeous dolllllllllllll. But to me the colours of Frankie’s new outfit just aren’t they aren’t presenting that same colour scheme. I think it would’ve been intentionally trans if they did used purple instead of pink (Purple, Yellow, White = non binary) and I think the pink is just Mattelwashing and group colour cohesion tactic.

These dolls are ok, but I just won’t be getting them. Mattel seems too afraid to fully commit to the edge factor, and at the end of the day these dolls just don’t make me excited. All I want is my quirky edgy monster dolls, and right now they’re still just looking a little too Barbie for me, but I have my hopes up for future dolls.
the lack of commitment to giving toralie short hair really cements this fact for me, mattel will not their edgiest franchise be edgy
never collected monster high before but i'm honestly obsessed with g3, especially frankie, drac, and clawdeen. also side note, those new character songs, legit i've been listening to them like non-stop 😅 frankie's song and all the non-binary representation, i just feel so seen 🥰

Toralei and Drac are my favourites! I actually prefer them to their G1 versions. (I don't necessarily like Drac's new personality or the witchcraft thing, but that doesn't affect the doll). I love Toralei as a singer too! I imagine it as a sort of punk caterwauling sound that works really well.
The glasses hate is baffling to me as someone with glasses... like wow glad to know so many of you think they automatically make people uninterested in fashion and lame... Like what are they talking about.
Plus just don't put them on the doll if you don't like them.
I’m a Certified G3 Hater overall, but I do like some of the changes. Draculaura’s face and hair, Lagoona’s transparent legs, Frankie’s leg and pronouns, Cleo… well. I hate that her skin is metallic but I love the color
My biggest gripes are:
1: Personal Taste. The outfits aren’t edgy or counterculture anymore. I’m fine with them changing, but man, could they be a little goth? A little punk? A little emo? The edginess and weirdness was what originally drew me to MH
2: Muddy Designs. They went way too crazy with patterns and colors. G1 had clear focal points, shapes that led your eye and places for the eye to rest. Also, the colors were balanced between main/secondary/accent. G3 balanced colors by putting almost every color on almost every part of the doll and slapping multiple conflicting patterns on them, so they’re kind of visual soup
3: Dishonest Marketing. Mattel intentionally misled adult fans and got us all hyped up for…. Extremely limited, overpriced releases that nobody can get their hands on, while the actual playline dolls go a wildly different direction :/
This exactly. It seems like the community can't stand to listen to someone have a different opinion than their own. On the MH subreddut they are deleting comments from people who criticize the dolls and just say "monster high is for everyone" but like yeah oc....but the reason why that slogan was so special was the the dolls broke the mold of what a fashion doll could be. It was so cool to see a line be unapologetic on its design while saying that they deserve a seat at the table. They were edgy and walked a line between collectable and kid friendly while still being unique....now....ehhhh. in my opinion they don't fit with that anymore. Tbh their clothes look more like rainbow high clothes with more patterns. They look jumbled and way too much like a middle schooler picked it out. Gen 1 looked extremely fashionable because as a kid I saw them as adult outfits. Not that they were just like me but that I wanted to become that cool when I grew up.
facts like i hate how if you “LOVE” g3 you are viewed as one way and if you “HATE” g3 you are viewed another way…like i like some of the changes and rlly despise some of them 🤷♀️ in the end i will be buying the ones i find cute and not buying the ones i dislike…i wish everyone was allowed to just state their opinion without being accused of just being a hater for no reason
Honestly I just wish that the dolls where a little more creepy, that’s what made the original take off after all: they where freaky chic and fly. I think that it would’ve been really cool to see a really striking color pallet of a lot of bright and pastel colors, with also a lot of black and grey. I think it’s mostly relevant in the tv series and movies (I haven’t seen them, I’m just going off trailers) it probably would make it stand out a whole lot more to see that kind of contrast, because even with the original series/movies the colors where fairly “muddy” looking and it would’ve given the brand a really cool new take.
As a Draculaura fan, her G3 doll is *french kiss* 10/10. She looks really beautiful in her outfit and I love her hat
My biggest problem is with lagoona I don’t think she’s recognizable as the original doll at all I actually thought they added a new character for a while, and I think denim shorts would be better than the rainbow biker shorts (not that those aren’t cute)
I really thought that too, I feel like they could have toned her down a bit as she looks so overly saturated with color.
This happens a lot with reboots tbh. My little pony rainbow dash is a really good example in g3 she was really proper and prim and spoke the fanciest out of every horse and in g4 she’s a pegasus with a need for speed and action.
Ooooh I so hope they do Operetta in G3! I really like the style and I'd get one of the OGs, but I've only been getting Operettas and don't wanna break the streak
The reboot isn't to my taste, but I'm excited my daughter gets to go out to the shops and share the same excitement I first did spotting a Monster High on the shelf.
I like that G3 is a mix of G1 and G2. It does take some time getting used to the new designs and new storylines, but I look forward for the movie and series, and in getting the dolls.
It's kind of upsetting how the people with valid criticism, are getting grouped with the people who have toxic nostalgia, but there really is issues with Gen3 with the so many unnecessary changes they made.

I'm pretty hyped for the reboot! There are some ideas/concepts I don't like, but a lot more that I do. I think my favourite character this gen will be Frankie, followed by Draculaura, but I'm more likely to get Lala's signature doll just because I love her design a lot and pink is my favourite colour 😅. But Frankie in Coffee Break two-pack looks so cool, and I want them too.
Lagoona is very cute and I adore her. I just wish she had fangs and webbed hands like in the show (and that Draculaura had her hat). Deuce is not my favourite but I like his face. I think Toralei would've looked much better with short hair and Clawdeen - with mostly brown hair with some purple streaks.
I heard the movie's terrible but I'll watch it anyway. Frankie's actor seems so enthusiastic playing the role, and I just love that they had fun with it. And the animation style for the show is just so precious, plus they're introducing and revamping a whole bunch of different characters, so I'm interested to see how it goes 👀
I only just got into MH this year, and there is just so much stuff, both old and new, that I'm excited to see!
We won't have dolls in stores in my country, so I have no idea when I'll be able to get them, but I only have two g1 dolls (and two more coming in mail), so I can continue collecting them until I get all the ones I want.
Oh I didn't see but your right Lagoona doesn't have webbed hands. Yeah that's kind of really weird to see, it would be nice to have those back because its a little odd looking to have them be...fleshy? I do wish they would have done Clawdeen's original hair coloring and experimented with natural hair because I do love the brown and purple its so crazy and cool! Maybe do half bantu knots up/half down, that would have been SOOO CUTE and solved the weird half bun on top that's currently in place.
I like this line enough to consider getting back into doll collecting, especially since the OG Monster High line is what got me into it in the first place... at least until it became impossible to get anything because of scalpers. I also like the new art style, it's still cute but a little more grounded. The original style is still striking, but it's also very "of its time". While I have some quibbles (Ghoulia shouldn't have a skirt, Cleo should have bangs, stuff like that), I do like this first wave overall. Really curious to see if this does well enough to start introducing some of the other characters down the line *fingers crossed for Robecca*.

I ADORE these new designs. I've liked every iteration for what it is. But seeing the changes made here, with more care than G2, makes me really happy. I'm going to want to get all of these dolls. Favorite design-wise is probably Frankie as well, which surprised me, since Frankie dolls weren't my favorite of the different lines back in G1. Draculaura is perfection, though, as always. She's been my favorite of the main ghouls since I started collecting (my all-time favorite is Operetta's signature doll, since she's what got me into collecting). I like the new angle they're going for with her, character-wise. Same with some of the characters we've only just heard about but have no dolls for yet (coughMannycough). I agree about Toralei and short hair, though. The short, wavy look she's got in the animation would look so cute on her doll!
I’m honestly not a big fan of the reboot, however that’s largely due to me not being able to handle change well. Despite that I’m still excited for new MH content and especially you reviewing it!! I won’t be buying the dolls but I’m certainly interested in all the upcoming releases !!:)
I'm obsessed with new Draculaura!!😍 I love how she is shorter than others like in the cartoons and has different bodytype in general. Hopefully they eventually bring these dolls to Finland!
Ive only watched a little of the video so idk if you mention this. But as an Arab person I kinda dislike Cleo’s reboot tbh. Generally the MENA region gets very little representation in American media anyways so I think for what the design is its good im not saying it is offensive or anything lmao. But I felt the original had a bit more attention to detail which I liked as it put emphasis on not just Cleo being a mummy but also her ethnicity.
An example of this just being in the makeup of the original Cleo vs. the reboot. The original doll has makeup which is more aligned with the makeup style of the Middle East IMO. Also at least from what I found on the wiki, the voice actor isn’t of MENA or Egyptian descent. It isn’t necessarily a offensive thing, but it would’ve been nice if they made an effort to cast a Egyptian or at the very least a MENA voice actress for Cleo give that she is Egyptian.
I love the reboot but something that bothered me a lot is that og Clawdeen had the most banjee / ghetto fashion aesthetic and I feel like she totally got gentrified, specially in the live action and cartoon because those seem to be going for a younger vibe🙄

I love the points you make about Deuce and also the hairstyles, since I wish Ghoulia had her short pigtails that one cartoon design has, and Toralei's new music theme is fun since it's good to have a variety of hobbies and jobs between the characters since that leads to more fun accessories and playsets.
And for Deuce I wish he had less snakes going on and more other stuff, like the baking theme, I'm glad he has a little apron but if that's gonna be a bigger part of him I wish he had more accessories happening to it. Also the LOL surprise Tweens series recently got a male doll named Max Yonder, and he has a skirt over his pants which is really cute! I wish Deuce also had a skirt since like they didn't really have pants on ancient greece, it would fit with his Gorgon theme even if he's not meant to be ancient.
But either way I'm really excited for the dolls, they're usually expensive in my country but if I can I will buy as many from the dolls as I can, specially Cleo since she's my favorite and I love how many accessories related to her culture she has, which is another reason I wish Deuce had more greek mythology themed stuff, like a skirt, a pegasus, he already has shoes with wings on it referencing that one Greek guy, you know, that one.
I love your idea to see a future Grecian style male outfit for Deuce, that could be like really cool especially for like a gauzy beach/summer outfit 😎
I am quite excited for G3!! Obviously, change can be a lot so I was apprehensive at first - but after seeing the designs they have grown on me. Lagoona being pink does kind of bug me ngl, but I think its probably just because Lagoona was always one of my favorites (I had the more Lagoona dolls than any other character lmaoo). I miss the iconic pale blue skin with the blonde & chlorine blue hair :'D Other than that, its really just the lack in hair diversity mentioned in the video. Clawdeen should have textured hair, there needs to be some shorter hairstyles, and I wish Cleo still had the iconic bangs. Also I wish one of the female characters had pants! Having them all in skirts, dresses & shorts makes their outfits all seem a little similar, and I think pants would really fit characters like Ghoulia or Toralei.

I only like Draculaura. She’s the only one that has a little of the same spark that G1 had.
I just don’t like the new direction they’re going in with the dolls. What I liked about Monster High is that they were weird quirky creepy dolls that looked so different, unique, and you could tell were made for the outcasts. They had great fashion , stunning face molds, yet all had a mysterious creepy edge. Monster High was the doll line that went “screw what everyone else is doing we are taking risks and making the dolls gorgeous but monstrous” The new dolls aren’t as special, they are made more for mass appeal. They aren’t taking the same risks. The edge and what made them Monster High has been stripped away, they’ve all been (metaphorically) declawed.
Before a lot of the dolls referenced high fashion,runway fashion, or alternative subcultures, now their clothes all look like fast fashion brands.People will say “well they’re made for a new generation”, what does this even mean? If they really wanted to make them for a new generation they could have referenced runway fashion from 2021-2022 instead of fast fashion, from 2016. They could have referenced all the new takes on alternative subcultures or even the new subcultures that have been popping up. But they didn’t.
People will say “it’s for kids it’s not made for adults, stop complaining!” G1 was also made for kids, not all kids want dolls with big eyes, colorful pallet, and smiles, obviously since G1 was so successful they tapped into that market of kids that wanted something different. I think we need to stop dumbing things down for kids and have more faith in them. Think back to when you were a kid, didn’t you like some scary things too? Not everything we gravitated to as a child was smiles sunshine and rainbows. Kids like some gritt too!
Also can we touch on the pets? The old pets had so much personality and charm to them, they were silly little creatures that looked like actual little monsters. The new ones just look like generic littlest pet shop pets. And they perfectly encapsulate what bugs me about G3 , everything is just so generic.
“You just have nostalgia goggles”, nice try but I am a full grown adult who just got into Monster High this summer. I fell in love with the characters, the design, the back stories, the fashion, the creepy yet gorgeous aesthetic etc. So I have no nostalgia attached to them. Objectively G1 is just better in almost every way. But that’s not even fair for me to say because I feel like G3 Monster High isn’t even Monster High it’s a new doll line that only shares the same name, but they have completely different vision, spirit, and direction. Mattel probably just wanted to use the same name so they wouldn’t have to deal with rebranding, creating trademarks, etc. I think G3 was just a way for them to create something “new” while being able to reuse old assets and also use a brand name that already was widely recognized and loved.
I have so much more to say but I don’t want to write an essay. I’ll just say that It’s kind of like if I loved cherry coke and the brand Coca-Cola discontinued Cherry Coke but then after 3 years or so brought it back, but it didn’t taste the same because Coca-Cola used a different ingredient to make cherry coke this time around because the previous cherry coke wasn’t palatable to a wider audience in their eyes. So they changed the formula and tried selling it as the same thing. But people purchased and loved cherry coke because it was cherry coke, they loved that product because it was that product not the one that they are trying to pass as the new and improved thing. I was excited for the reboot because I would be able to start a collection without paying scalpers online on EBay astronomical prices. But I was so disappointed with G3 because it doesn’t have what G1 had, it’s not Cherry Coke anymore.
P.S one thing to note, I am not a doll collector, I personally cannot stand LOL dolls, Rainbow or Shadow high etc. So for me I just liked Monster High because it was so different and unique. Which is why I think my perspective is so different from everyone else’s, everyone else loves the kind of generic, bright colorful cutsey aesthetic because they just love doll collecting, so to everyone else Monster High G3 is just another cute colorful doll line to collect, so they aren’t losing out on anything. Where I specifically just gravitated to Monster High as a non doll lover because it was just so different.
Another reason why this whole stripping away the ferociousness and edge away from Monster High bothers me is because I remember walking with my sister who was a full on goth at the time,in Target (before I was into monster high) and she picked up a Monster High doll and said “wow I wish dolls like this were around when I was a kid”. And it’s just sad to me that children only get the same generic bright colorful, cutsey Barbie perfect aesthetic to choose from and that kind of aesthetic doesn’t speak to every child. So it’s genuinely so sad that those kids had their one creepy cool thing taken away from them.

At first I didn’t like them at all I thought they looked so uncanny and I’m a bit of a gatekeeper when it comes to monster high but honestly I’m starting to really love the design of Drac, Frankie,and Lagoona
the show seems promising but i didn’t care for the movie though however one thing I’ve noticed though is the quality control has been very poor I’ve seen some of these dolls in the stores and on Facebook marketplace and they always seem different from one another even if they’re the same line
even though i dislike the g3 dolls conceptually the dolls look like they're the best ones yet!!
mostly i dislike the concepts cause i kinda don't like how they heavily changed the lore for already existing characters that didn't need it. i like where frankie went; and torelei being a singer is actually kinda a funny concidence since me and my sibling had a LONG PASSIONATE talk about why she should be a singer a few years ago, so we were happy about that. i do feel sad that draculara was made into a witch instead of expanding upon that adorable lolita aesthtic; since i'm a hardcore sucker for lolita and i dont see why they wouldn't expand upon that; since clawdeen seems more fitting to be a witch rather than a nerd.
though i'm absloutely in LOVE with the dolls themselves, i like the torso articulartion and how there's diffrences between the body types; the designs translate well onto dolls shockingly enough. Ghoulia and Torelei could use diffrent hairstyles for the sake of diversity (and i'd probally cut/style their hair if i got them irl. i'm talking braids for ghoulia and short hair for torelei) though the rest of them are so pretty!!
I grew up with MH and recently started collecting them again. TBH at first I had a pretty negative reaction to G3 but that was just me being bitter about something from my childhood changing. Now I actually really like the dolls, it feels really fresh and new!! The diversity is great so far and the character design is really a lot better than I anticipated.
I honestly can't wait for these to get to Finland so I can collect them, and it's going to be really cool to see a whole new MH fandom rise :)
I personally love the new art style because it’s very cute, but I also see why people don’t like it. It really took a lot of the edge and sharpness that G1 Monster High had. For the dolls and characters themselves, I love love LOVE that Frankie is nonbinary now. I still can’t believe that I’m getting NB rep from such a mainstream IP. And they’re so cute too! I love their design and fashion.
To be honest, I’m really excited for the new MH Gen 3 dolls. I like the inclusivity and diversity they are putting more to the designs. My favorites are the same as yours (Frankie, Draculaura, and Lagoona) and I really love that Ghoulia is coming back.
I think people should take into consideration is that this MH is a different era and it’s made for a new audience in mind and the doll market is changing for inclusivity and different body molds. The new cartoon emphasizes that even more.

Although I am not a Monster High fan myself. My God Daughter was, all she and so many fans wanted was that Mattel show that they were taking the reboot seriously. And that they were going to give good quality. How Mattel did Monster High and it was a top seller Brand for them. Just to please the Karens was just down right evil. They’re so cute and poseable, they keep me company as i work from home and i send my friends pics of them on their phones like “they’re in a teams meeting” hahaha honestly enjoying this generation of the dolls and will probably buy more
My little brother was into monster high so i was only really in the periphery of the fandom, but being nonbinary, this take on Frankie is so cool and hearing them referred to as they/them lights up my heart. Draculaura's proportions are also really cute, she looks like she plays roller derby with those legs!
@barbie doll he hasn't been paying much attention to the franchise and at this point it's more a nostalgia thing for him than anything else. We were both geeking out over they/them nonbinary Frankie though. I think Frankie was his favorite and he questioned being nonbinary before deciding a more binary transmasc identity fit his experience with gender better. There's a joy in something with a lot of fans acknowledging your experiences, even if they're just temporary or stepping stones to more accurate truths.
I love every character so so much! they're so adorable, I'm especially excited about Draculaura and Cleo, which are my favorites so far! Personally, I love that Duce is green now, as controversial as it is, since it opens up so many possible color combinations that would look really cool! I hope they give him more outfits with red as the main color

I believe it's because in g1and g2 glasses were never established as Clawdeen's thing, most of her outfits weren't made with glasses in mind they were a specific trait to Ghoulia and other characters who wore them
So I'm aboutta go off topic for just a sec here but real talk. The fashion doll collecting fandom is intense. Its wild because I'm a ball joint doll collectors and we're always getting slammed for being "toxic" but ya'll, we ain't nothing compared to the how mean people were about G3 monster high reboot.
When a new bjd company hits the scene I've never seen people just slam on it lol and certainly nobody sends hate to the sculpter (that I'm aware of at least) but dang if Barbie slips up people straight come for her and it's a little shocking to me.
Now, personally I think it's because the overall age of fashion doll collectors skews a bit younger or maybe nostalgia kinda poisons the well? I dunno. It just really surprised me!
I was there for the launch monster high dolls and I was a casual collector so when I saw G3 I just went "eh they look fine I guess." I loved draculaura's new body because it's exactly the shape that's been hot in the bjd world for a while now, but otherwise I just thought they looked fine.

I really don't like what's going on with the movie, but I'm honestly pretty hyped for everything else. I think the witchcraft thing is weird, like why is it so bad y'all are literally monsters why would you be afraid of the devil when he's probably an alumnus, and I wish there was just a little more reference to gothic lolita in Draculaura, but everything else seems really cool!
I’m exited to see what direction they go with Frankie being nonbinary. Of course it’s fine if they still dress femininely, but I’d like their gender to be explored in their fashion and character design. Like putting them in more masculine clothing, or giving Frankie more masc haircuts in future lines. I’d love to see them with short hair. And it could also open some doors for male dolls too. If the masc Frankie dolls do well, it could very well increase a demand for male dolls, which might mean we get more fashionable ones. That’s just my thoughts though.

I saw a quick clip of Lagoona in the live action movie and it was Lagoona roaring at someone with a month full of sharp teeth, so I really hope they lean into the cute fish girl to a scary monster, old fashion Siren style if you know what I mean.
Whether someone likes the reboot or not, that doesn't mean harassing people is okay. There are times where people have to agree to disagree on things not be malicious about it. Even though the reboot isn't exactly what everyone wanted, there are still somethings to like and dislike about it. Like I said about the harassment, we don't need to attack other people because it's not going to make the reboot any better and it's just bullying people for no valid reason. Sometimes with certain content it's better to just walk away from it doesn't suit your taste.

The heavy handedness of the theming is a big problem for me. Patterns are nice, but I feel like they used them a lot better in G1 than these new fashions. As if the only way the designers knew to make them monster-themed would be to slap symbols everywhere. I think it just shows how strong the designs were from the previous artist. The lack of darker shades bugs me, too. I liked the darker pinks, and the fact that they slapped pink on each doll is overkill. Color cohesiveness was better in G1 imo.The vibe they are giving reminds me of when I designed OCs in middle school - I would slap the theme colors everywhere because that's the only way I knew to show the outfit matched. Cleo is the only one I like fashion-wise (sans that jacket). Agreed on her, shoes, though.
My hope is the designs improve over time.
You really changed my mind on Ghoulia. She is my absolute favorite from g1 and I was heartbroken by her redesign but I hadn't noticed all the little details of her doll. Thank you for your attention to them. I'm probably gonna get her, Draculaura, Frankie, and probably Cleo!
Overall I think g3 is really strong and has a lot of promise. I wasn't around for g1 really so the changes don't bother me. I love the diverse body types, too.
Honestly, I really love the designs of the reboot (other than heath they fecked my man up, and I also kinda wish they did something more with ghoulia's hair). Maybe I'm biased because I love bright colors and nice color palettes but I think most of the characters have really coherent and well-made designs. I've been a fan since G1 and still have most of my dolls from then, and of course I'll miss seeing all the old designs, but as an artist I'm really happy to have more stuff to work with :D

Tbh I agree with you on a lot of points, here’s my thoughts:
- deuce’s face and hair is lovely, but his outfit isn’t very interesting, love that he’s a chef
- Clawdeens outfit pieces are really cute, but her design seems too cluttered, I kinda wish she still had that more mature vibe that she had in G1, it contrasted well with Frankie and drac I think
- cleo is super pretty just doesnt interest me much
- ghoulias old outfit was way better in my opinion, she definitely should of had trousers, love her hair and face and beanie, would love if she had stitches or exposed limbs but that might make her too similar to Frankie
- Frankie is the BEST, they’re incredible, so gorgeous, it’s taking me a little while to get used to them being nb but I think it’s great
- I wish torali had short hair, I always rlly wanted her when I was young but couldn’t 😭 I hope she’s not super girly and fem as I loved that she was kinda edgy before
- lagoona is pretty but I don’t think the pink fits with her palette, kinda clashes with her top I think , wish she was blue but it’s not a big issue, don’t like her outfit lol
- dracs vibe is cute but I will miss her personality, not a fan of the chiffon being so far down in her main outfit (and I wish she had a skirt) but gosh.. her palette is so cute

I really love g3 honestly, Draculaura has SO much personality and honestly her whole place in the MH world and now that Dracula is meant to be the real /Dracula/ is so much better to me. I always wanted her to be this very important figure and the fact that she has this pressure on her, and how she rebels through magic is so, so AWESOME to me. I love that witchcraft is seen as a human thing now honestly, because that's what it is for us. Rambling, but like all of them are so cool now with hobbies and things that just make them more relatable and approachable, especially with kids. I think g3 is just bright with this personality, diversity and color ! This isn't to say they didn't always have personality, just for some reason this time it feels deeper. Also, the mansters are getting such an upgrade, which makes me extremely happy LOL. ( However, I do hope Ghoulia gets a little more love later on with her style, also that Cleo gets her bangs back, there can be improvements but I like to focus on the good rather than the bad ! )
I just found the g3 dolls at my local walmart last week, and managed to pick up a draculaura! She has a bit of a scuffed eye, but I love her so much it doesn’t matter! I don’t really mind the changes from g1 to g3, I feel that g3 still has that spirit, that “it” factor, that made me love g1 monster way back when I was a kid. Seeing that new draculaura on the shelves along with the other g3 dolls made me feel exactly like I did when I was 7 and choosing my first monster high doll!
One thing that does disappoints me about the dolls is that there’s no stands, especially since monster high was the first doll line I was introduced to that came with stands. Though, my g3 draculaura has a nice weight to her, and she can stand on her own fine enough.
It SENDS me that Toralei sings now simply for the fact that G1 Toralei being an AWFUL singer was burned into my brain 😂😂😂💀
this might sound petty but my only issue with the line is toralei's redesign. growing up i really identified with her edgier and slightly less feminine style and i'm a bit put off by how tame and frankly bland her doll looks. given how mainstream alt fashion has become in the last few years it's disappointing that they still insist on giving all dolls skirts and long straight hair :/ luckily her model for the animated series looks more true to character so hopefully we can see more experimental variations of her in future doll lines.
I definitely like some of these dolls, too, even though I never really collected Monster High up until recently. Though, when it comes to Draculaura, Frankie, and Clawdeen, I prefer their Creepover dolls to their first release dolls. Definitely in love with Torilei's FR doll, and honestly not too big on Ghoulia's new one, (still waiting for her creeproduction) but hopefully there will be a another G3 Ghoulia doll I'll like better like with Frankie, Draculaura, and Clawdeen.
When G1 came out, collecting doll didn't even cross my mind, because I was starting university, was still living with my parents and my family didn't have much money, so collecting is not something anyone I knew really did. I do remember the release and thought they were interesting, but they looked goth or something like that, and back then I also didn't know much about the fashion and styles. I was, and still am a Barbie girl, and actually that same year mom got me a doll for christmas and I still own her!
Fast forward to now, I am an independent adult and can use some of my money to buy things that bring me joy, so I now have a doll collection. It is mostly Barbie, but I also collect LOL Tweens. I never got into Rainbow High, simply because Im used to variety because of Barbie, even back in the 90s there were so many facesculpts already, aside from the "main" girl. We had Teresa, Aisha, Lara, Steffie, Lea, Goddess, Mbili, Shani, Christie, and many more, and now in the 2010s we have hundreds of facesculpts, many bodytypes, skin colors and hair types. So I dont find Rainbow High appealing at all, they look pretty much the same to me, but I recognize the fashions are well made. So I heard of G3 Monster High and was intrigued and decided to check them out, back when we only had a few leaks, and I love them! Because of g3 I started exploring g1, and I fell in love with how detailed Monster High is, how they truly brought something very different to the doll world, and the webseries was actually nice. Im now trying to find some of my favorites from g1, difficult but Ill try.
G3 kept the uniqueness of different facesculpts and different styles. My ranking: 1. G3 Draculaura is one of my favorite doll designs ever. No joke. She is so pretty, I get joy by looking at her pictures. Love the split haie color, but also the other two variants we've seen so far 2. Frankie is fantastic! Their design is fabulous, love the colors and love that they are non-binary. 3. Cleo is so so so pretty, I really like her darker skin, her face is, wow, and her hair looks great, but I want the bangs back. 4. Ghoulia I like, she is a cute doll, BUT I dont like the green skin TT so it is hard for me to like the overall design without being like noooo green, but yes it makes sense for zombies. I dont like her skirt at all. 5. Toralei looks super cool, love her smirk! I do like how she looks with short hair (saw some restyles) and her outfit is great! 6. Lagoona is pretty, the translucent detail on her legs is so cool. I wish she had the webbing between her fingers, but it is fine. I think she looks great pink. I dont like the forehead scales, and the overall outfit is ok I guess. 7. Deuce, which is a surprise, because I never like male dolls, but his design is actually interesting. His face is expressive and he looks cool in green. 8. Clawdeen, Im sad about this one because it is the only doll that I actually dislike :/ I dont mind the glasses whatsoever, but I dont like anything about her design. The hair color combo is so unappealing, I dont know what it is about it. The top knot doesnt look great. I dont like the excessive class of patterns and the repetitive moon theme. I HATE the overalls, it makes it feel like she is a middle schooler, or even in elementary school. The outfit, is so unfashionable imo. Even her screening looks meh to me, again, she looks way too young.
I really love g3 so far! They have so much personality and I think kids now will really like them. My faves atm have to be a tie between coffee break frankie and gore-ganizer drac. I love the suggestion that there's going to be a wider range of body types and they're being more inclusive with real-life rep too rather than vague suggestions. Especially for me I love that they already have multiple physically disabled characters...I literally can't think of another mainstream kids media franchise that has that except maybe like...httyd. Usually they stick one disabled character in at a push and call it a day but really props to Mattel for showing a Different disabilities.

I've experienced something about loosing all my dolls myself. I used to collect them all through elementary school and I loved them so much (Though as a little kid, I didn't know how to take care of them lol). After stuff happening, they're all gone now including all my childhood toys and video games. Because of that, I never wanted to have anything for myself again. Though as a senior in high school right now, I've restarted collecting dolls again with the help of my friends giving me confidence, so I can fufill my inner child 😊
God I feel so gaslight, it was just yesterday when everyone hated em and now its toxic positivity time. If yall like the reboot have fun but let's not deny that they took the alt fashion completely off the table here.
Warning: I have an opinion. And playfully explain my issues in a tongue and cheek way. If you like G3 then cool. I hate em.
Here's the good: The face molds are nice the faces for frankie and drac are cute. And the body molds are nice besides lagoonas skin tone. The only one I may get is drac, because I don't feel like her face needs any major changes other than the lips, and hair and clothes can be fixed.
The bad: The fashion is just not it. I liked monster high G1 because as a kid I saw it as high fashion. Outfits that I'd be unable to ever have but wished I could. Lolita dresses, high heels, huge gowns, Victorian inspo, that's what made monster high so great to me. Here they are wearing something that looks like a middle schooler put it together. I think If I were a kid during these reboots I'd prob not give em a second thought and go straight to lol surprise, who's pushing the limits more with unique and balanced design.
There are also too many vibrant colors in this line. In G1 they kept a base set of complementary colors and one pop of color for contrast. It looked clean and pleasing to the eye. Lagoona is a perfect example of why too many colors makes a doll hurt to look at. Her skin doesn't even need to be blue. Just take the pink and make it a dusty light pink and I'd be happy. Like I don't even care if Frankie is blue, just give them some mint accessories instead of all this neon.
Also pattern police here pls take the textiles away from these ghouls they look like they got dressed in the dark.
Remember the kids clothing brand justice that closed down a couple years ago. The dolls reminds me of those clothes. And not in a good way.
Istg the words grow up are used when you critique any media that kids consume. Can we please stomp acting like we need to dumb down things for kids. Kids look alt fashion, tic tok has shown us that kids can express themselves in other ways than neon colors and hot pink. In fact I've seen more pre teens drawn to specific anesthetics.
Agreed, I don't mind the molds at all but the fashions are bland to me. If I walked by this line as a kid It would not attract me like G1 did - it would just be another cutesy doll line with a gimmick. G1 ran with its gimmick and elevated it which is why it stood out. I'm not planning to buy anyone other than Drac when they release in stores but that doesn't mean that I can't give my opinion since I literally grew up on them.
I was skeptical on the relaunch, and I've yet to really look at the production line, but the stock images are adorable and I'm hoping to soon see similar quality. This would be the first MH line that I actually kinda want them all...while I love the super stylized fashion model proportions of the G1 line, the dolls quickly felt "same-y" to me despite the unique styles. The variety in proportions is exciting. I know, if I didn't have to worry about expenses, I'd be running out to pick up Lagoona, Deuce, Frankie, and Draculaura asap. Also, it's your channel and your life, but I would be interested in your experiences as a collector; I know I've gone thru many phases of starting-stopping as a "non-target audience" collector myself.
Anyway, nerding essay to follow:
I'm a little disappointed Lagoona is not blue, but I do like the pink and how it makes all the blue accessories pop! She's my fave and I'm definitely headcanoning Lagoona into a NB sweep, her and Frankie are my top tier regardless of bias.
I'm living for more out of Deuce, I love boy dolls but yeah, they get boring fast and often just don't have as much attention given to their designs. His redesign is exciting to me for that reason.
I like Ghoulia's characterization, but I agree they could have leaned more into sk8rgirl/tumblrcore/gamer fashion...I get what they wanted with the slime drip eclectic dress, but yeah, not executed well. Love those platforms, but she should have Vans (Hearses?)!
I like Toralei a lot more in this launch, too; I'm not as up on Lore, but I hope they lean into "can't sing vocalist" if they're giving her "Hissfits" as a band name -- get real punk rock about it! (No offense to Danzig, he's the exception not the rule lol) Also would blow me over to complete the loop with a horrorcore band reference in a doll line that also uses classic monster movies as their point of reference; and really, really would love a girl's line that branches out of Pop Singer music, but I expect to be disappointed here! Either way, would totally sell out and buy a box set of a cat girl rock band (cry real tears if they reference Josie).
MOST disappointed with Clawdeen...she's totally adorable and I love her, but I want to see that molded fur!! Maybe they are hiding it in the stock photos, but she's so fluffy in the art, I'd love to see that reflected in the doll. Cleo's molded bandages prove they could be doing more.
I'm OK with them stepping away from diaries, it seems they are doing more to promote the story in other media, I miss having missed out on this aspect in the original line, but also my interest in dolls comes from the idea of developing the characters and their personalities on my own. The new boxes I get from a display perspective, but the trapper-keeper look was cute and fit the theme so well! I worry a little that they are trying to dupe the pop art school setting of RH, which they really don't need. They could be picking up what AHH! Real Monsters put down and be attending school to be the best at scary!!
I was one of the people that was skeptical about the new gen but looking at the dolls they’re actually quite nice!! There’s still a few things that I don’t like or I need more time getting used too but overall the dolls are better than I expected. I was really only into gen 1 and the shorts and I never even watched the movies (I didn’t even know gen 2 existed) so this is a huge change for me but there are things I really like about this gen
I love monster high there is hardly a day that goes by that I don't think about it as I'm autistic and monster high is my special interest and I'm exited for these monster high dolls! Just bought drac and Frankie! Can't wait for them to arrive I love them alot.

As someone who was a senior in high school in 2010 when MH was first released, and started collecting them 2 years later once I got over my I'm a certain age and can't buy a doll phase, it's interesting to be at the point now where the kids who grew up with them are about the age now that I was then. I feel like my relationship to the franchise is different - I love them, I miss seeing Gen 1 in stores, but it's not rooted in this childhood nostalgia, I don't feel like years went by where I forgot about them because even though I started collecting other dolls and went though a lot of life milestones in 10 years I am still just an adult doll collector and they are always there on my shelves. Time moves way different between 9 and 19 than 19 and 29.
What I am getting at is then its probably easier for me as 1.) A probably more mature adult than a lot of the younger people saying rude things to not be rude and 2). Someone who's always felt a little outside MH because I was never a kid for it to feel less attached to or mad about G3 being obviously geared to kids. I don't love them, I don't hate them. I'm disappointed they read more cutesy and less severe than G1 (representation mattered for me with those face molds, I have more angular, prominent features and dolls rarely get to have those things and look cool). I also wish they still read a little more alternative, I feel like that love of classic monsters doesn't exactly read with these the way G1 did and I miss the motifs directly nodding to alt subcultures like psychobilly and steampunk. I think my disappointment with the overall cutsiness is it still feels like it's still trying to pander to the critique the way G2 was, but, I'm happy it's an all out, thoughtful redesign this time. Draculaura was my favorite at first, her face is really cute, but you've made me want maybe Torelei and give her a good chop. I like her pseudo punk nods. More hair lengths and textures absolutely would've been appreciated - I don't like new Lagoona, she was my favorite before, and at the very least giving her some big curls again would've felt more like a nod to her original. Additionally I'm annoyed her pet was changed to something cutesy too. Heck even a cute little shark would've been okay, I can't even tell what that creature is.
So that was a lot of words to basically say I have some complaints, I have a few compliments, but overall I'm indifferent.

I like G1 better, the reason why is because they made Lagoona pink, she looks more of a mermaid rather than her fresh water monster color.
Because she's from a very tropical type area now. A slugdey grey blue looks so gross with that theme.
I haven’t actually gotten any g3 dolls yet but I’m most excited to get Lagoona and I’m really happy that Frankie is non binary now bc I love the trans Representation bc I’m a trans girl myself. I also love Draculaura’s new savage personality and I’m very open minded on this new generation and I don’t agree that the cast members and the voice actors are being harassed bc even the creator of the original Monster high doesn’t even agree with that so yeah that’s my thoughts so far. 🥰💕

One thing i LOVE about the new releases is the fact that they all come with food! It really feels like they are trying to makeup for the super skinny universal body type of their original dolls
Frankie is also my favourite Gen 3 doll! They’re so cute, with Draculaura and Cleo tying at second place close behind. I’m so obsessed with the preppy fashion they’re pushing now! GAHHHHH!!!
