This is very informative. It's a good thing that you touched base on the little lobola payment. The problem is I'm not sure if I understood your answer, does it mean that if the groom's family pays a little amount for lobola and no celebration was done, the marriage will still be recognised? What if the groom's family decided to do their own celebration without the bride, do we still say that was a customary celebration?
Do you have to register a customary marriage that was not registered in the past just to dissolve it? Or can you just go straight to dissolution without registering it? I hope I make sense Mme Puleng
Customary Marriage even if it was never registered it is still recognized. It is better to register it though to have easy proof. At time of divorce it should not be a problem if it was never registered unless if there's a dispute.
Mme Puleng. My lobola was fully paid in 16 December 2023 and we got separated before we could register the marriage as we were still planning a civil marriage. It's February 2024 and he chased me out of the house leased with both our names and I'm pregnant with his child. How can I divorce in these circumstances?

Hi Advocate, how do you deal with Prenup/Antenuptial agreement in a customary marriage? Do you do it before the lobola or after?
If your partner was married under civil marriage but want to take another wife since the first one refuses divorce. What can be done?
