Please tell Paul that his yard is so pretty and it gave me some good ideas for my yard in North Central Texas. We are in Bedford, Texas. I am loving your videos.
He has such a beautiful front garden! I like his anecdote on growing watermelon as a child🍉 very sweet memory. I’m super curious how that magnolia will fair over the summer.😮 can we get an update later in the season?
I think I took screenshots of almost everything. Lol… That Desert Willow and Magnolia are amazing!! Can’t wait to see how the Magnolia rebounds. Nature is beautiful!!
I am a new subscriber, happy to have found your channel. Relatively new gardener to the hill country. The rocks are real here LOL. What a lovely mature garden Paul has, and "looks" low maintenance. I put looks in quotes because we all know that all gardens need TLC and that's how we like it. I will vouch for that desert willow, I planted some PW el Nino chitalpa 18 mos ago, it survived 2 hill country winters like a champ and grew crazy fast. I am how considering putting more of if as a privacy tree/hedge instead of foundation plant. I bought it as a qt pot shipped to me and now it is at least 6' tall. So yes I am a walking advocate for this plant. One specimen tree that I would add in the front bed is a Japanese maple but that's just me. Paul's garden is very restful to my eyes. I really like the dry river rock bed.
Yes!! That desert willow is one to search for! I don’t see them often in San Antonio, but now I’m thinking it may be because I wasn’t looking close enough for them! What a beauty 😊
Great tour! What zone are you in? You have some beautiful blooming plants, shrubs, and trees for an arid climate. Have you seen lantana grown into a standard (tree)? They are so beautiful and a fun project to try. I garden in zone 6a…going to see if Esperanza, and the Mexican willow (?) would grow this far north. Thanks for sharing your lovely yard!
You have some very nice native plants, especially the Desert Willow. The lawn is pretty, but is such a huge water user - in fact lawns are the highest water user of any “crop” and have no benefit for native insects, pollinators or birds. They basically make HOA committees happy… Since we are in a 3 year drought here in Central Texas, we need to consider alternatives.
Beautiful examples! I love your commitment to saving the magnolia. I was thinking of trying my luck with fairy blush & little gems but I’m not sure if the deer will be interested
On the crepe myrtles…there are several different varieties-some tall tree types, some medium shrub types and some dwarfs. It is best to research and get the correct one for your application instead say trying to keep one like a Natchez that wants to be 20ft in a shrub form. Just want to save your viewers some heartache/frustration.😊
Love the hardscaping! Man it makes all the work he does in the gardens POP! Thanks for sharing!
The whole neighborhood loves his garden!
Just got an Esperanza at HEB today for $5 in the sale section and planted it this evening:) nice to see in the video how beautiful it may turn out
That is awesome! Keep it well watered during our high heat.
I just stumbled on to your channel. I love it. I'm a San Antonio gardener...just south of you, but we have the same garden issues.
So glad you found me. Keep watching for more great ideas for our challenging gardens.
What a gorgeous and well manicured yard!
Yes it is! He does a great job in his garden.
I like all of it. It’s a well thought out plan and nice contrasts of hard and soft.
I agree! He's an awesome gardener.

I will let him know! I love being his neighbor!
Love it. It's hard to find a nice Texas drought-tolerant garden. I'm copying some of these ideas.
Wonderful! Everything I plant must be drought tolerant!
What a beautiful yard! The Desert Willow is gorgeous! Love all of the pollinator plants! Thank you for sharing God’s beautiful creation!
You're welcome! Paul is a fine gardener!

Good information! Yes, research the size before planting!
Non-native with minimal to no value for native bees, birds or butterflies.
