Crazy what they ask for them now. Used to have a Taichung made Spyderco Domino in XHP. FFG 0.012-0-0.013” behind the cutting edge.
I have almost 150 Spydies but this and the Nirvana are 2 that I refuse to pay inflated prices and perpetuate this ongoing charade.
I suppose most companies will charge what people will pay. It changes the type of buyer though and when if becomes the policy, they lose their original supporters.
You could call it selling out.

One of my favs but that price no way!!!! I’m in Canada and my Shaman cost me 385$ and my Manix XL 350$ so 500$ american ….totally not worth it !

I have a theory that the era of spyderco Taichung titanium frame and liner locks is coming to an end. I honestly doubt we will see any new models. Sal or Eric talked about how as dollar conversion rates and economy’s change in the places they use outside manufacturing, they have to revaluate whether or not certain products are viable anymore. Which is why when Spyderco does price increases it’s not across the board but instead by where each product line is made.
Taichung has consistently seen the largest price increases in recent years and the highest being 15% in a single year. On the contrary there was one year Seki models saw no increase and then only 5% another year.
Another piece to my theory is that any new titanium frame locks Spyderco has put out or announced recently have been made in Italy. For example the Spymoto and the upcoming Techno 3 are both Italian made. The Stovepipe is the only new titanium model from Taichung in recent years but they have been discontinuing them as prices increase. I hope I’m wrong because they really are very very well made knives but I just don’t know if enough people are willing to pay for them when they are getting close to US made Ti framelock prices.

Spyderco is or has been known to have over-priced knives. Not as bad as Benchmade of late. But still... The Bowie is one of those and I would never dish out $500.00 for one, just not worth the coin.

I paid for one. It’s expensive but they were completely out of production and knifejoy approached them to make an exclusive for them. Certainly you’re paying for the exclusivity but I was just happy to get one. I’d rather see it back in production for 300 but what can you do

No reason this shouldn’t be a standard Spyderco model, with that beautiful stone wash like the original had. They could charge $350 for them and make a ton of money and they would sell a ton of them. Really it should be about $280-$300 but that’s dreaming, they will charge $500 as to not piss off their collectors who paid $1000 for the OG one.

Maybe We or Civivi should redo the design, I bet they could make it for $75-$150. Last time I fell for the hype of a hard to get knife, I bought a protech Malibu and regretted it immediately.
Are you suggesting We or Civivi shamelessly copy the design then sell it at a discount? This was built to rival knives like the Sebenza and it's been roughly the same price since Spyderco released the design. Nothing has shifted. Let's not forget that Reate is the manufacturer of The Barnes and The James Brand is selling those uninspired piles of shit for nearly $700.
If WE made one in these materials they would charge $400 now. Their prices are getting ridiculous too.

Yeah, I was not and still not willing to pay 4/450 for what you don’t get vs. what you get from others in the knife world. Spyderco just in cahoots with Knifejoy to jack up the price while licking Nick’s boots. All comes down to….. WILLINGESS TO PAY!!!

Happy with my spydie chef. I will get a swayback soon but the bowie is way too much. I wanna get an XM-18 non flipper and those are the same price. Like $400 or so. But bowie for same price? Idk man. One day maybe..

The Slysz Bowie has always been that price, or there abouts.
This whole series makes no sense to me. Spyderco has amazing locks that blow a frame lock out of the water, and to hinder the Spydie flick with the handle design is a capital sin. I'll stick to the PM and Manix, thank you.

Still a good knife but as always, it's the hype that inflates the prices.
The original one may have been worth more for the polished stonewash but not double the price of swayback. the original was sweet not a huge fan of this version.

My best answer for y it's so much. Is it hasn't been released in a long time and they knew people would pay it, just like with all the other overpriced knives on the market.

Il lost love for spyderco. They just feel dated. I can’t do washer action for that price but that modified swayback is awesome.
So I think it’s a cool design, but in my opinion there is just no reason for the inflated price. Seems like a cash grab. I know the rerelease has a steel lockbar insert and overtravel but thats obviously not a reason for the cost. Honestly that just seems like a really late in the game improvement I would have expected on several spyderco models by 2024. Don’t get me wrong if the price was chef or swayback pricing or even slightly more than those models I’d absolutely think it was worth it. Just not over $400

The narrows is trash though. I wouldn’t buy either, but this would be bought over the narrows every time. When the drift is $100 cheaper and built the same or better, the bowie is a hard sell.

That’s not the discontinued swayback. You know its handle is very similar to the Bowie. I would say likely the Bowie handle was probably an engineered variant from this model. You don’t want a Bowie at 450 but you also don’t want Titanium Tenacious for 130 dollars, a Spydie chef for 300 or a drunken for 550 (trying to go by the normal price not the full retail). I am with you 100 percent on this one. It’s a cool knife and capable but way overpriced. It’s along the same lines as the Bodacious and how that is damn near 100 dollars overpriced too. I hope this isn’t a trend for what’s to come for Spyderco
