Even though I’m a Persona fan, I kinda slept on this game until I tried the demo. Seriously, the demo feels like a full game. No joke, compared to the ‘complete’ games we get these days, this thing is packed with contents. There are games out there right now that feel less finished than this demo. There was so much going on in the demo. The fact that the developers let you experience all of this for free is just mind blowing.
Along with the fact that it’s about the length of 1% of the full game if you take into account how long Persona and SMT (Persona’s parent franchise) normally takes to finish with a new save file. Atlus is honestly one of the peak aspects of this year in gaming considering they pushed out four highly rated games in the same year.

I have to admit, I've been ignoring this game every time the banner/thumbnail would pop up thinking it was some kind of Persona crossover game. I love Persona, but I've never been interested in the spin offs. I had no idea it was a completely new IP! Thank you for putting this out. I was about to miss out on a real gem. 🙂
Maybe if you actually googled something, or took a minute to look at the photos. You would of know 🤦 "the book uses the letter A, so I assume it has something to do with the dictionary." See how stupid your logic is?
Something worth mentioning, because I've heard **only** Persona mentioned like 5 times in the first minute, Metaphor takes elements from other games they've made. The combat is like Shin Megami Tensei (the game Persona is actually a spin off of), and for many SMT has more in depth, flexible, and better combat. I've also seen someone say the item synthesis system is like Devil Survivor Saga, among other systems from different games. It seems to be a culmination of many systems from ***all*** their games, not just Persona. Their other games are good too, and deserve some spotlight. (Also one thing I wish they'd've taken from SMT is more availability for combat and getting to it faster, the demo especially seems to drag) Edit: lol you mentioned the opening dragging 2nd: edit, please Persona fans chill. I'm not insulting the game you like, just trying to inform others that Atlus has made other good games, and this game takes pieces from all of them instead of just the one everyone mentions.
Definitely good to point out cause SMT, and even Devil Survivor games are a bit underrated, but Persona has taken off compared to those games so I see why all these sites and journalists are making the Persona comparison. I haven’t played it yet, but apparently SMT V was damn good. This year has been amazing for gamers!
@@paranoidandroid___1248 Yeah I understand that Persona is their game that made it big, so Im not surprised when people don't know, but its really hard to not feel the need to bring up other games when I hear "Persona persona persona" all the time. Heck the person above you felt the need to trash talk SMT for no reason and they most likely havent even played it. Also as an SMT fan I agree with many that 5 isn't the best the series has to offer. SMT4 would be my suggestion if you can get it. Idk how good the new version of SMT5 is though so maybe the extra additions might make it even better. If you do play SMT regardless of which one, good luck and I hope you enjoy it.😊
@tigerfalco I've heard nothing but good things about Vengeance. I never finished the original version of V, as it just didn't hold my attention like IV did. That noted, I absolutely am a little tired of hearing Metaphor compared to only Persona. I mean, at least do a little research and note how the combat is pulled from SMT.
@@sword_of_dusk Exactly, thank you. Someone gets it. Like I understand not knowing, but when you're a fan of the other games its tiresome hearing only one game get any attention, especially when its relevant to bring others up. And it would be nice of journalists did do a little research before just hitting send on the draft. I couldn't imagine being a Kingdom Hearts fan, for example, if it wasn't so damn popular cuz all I'd hear about is Finall fantasy 😂 Also good to hear Vengeance is making it more palatable for some.
People keep comparing this to p5, little they did know it’s a p3 spinoff, I mean you already got the mc Makoto Yuki, Yukari(your fairy companion), akihiko with horns, and long eared Mitsuru. Wouldn’t be surprise if Aegis shows up as well lol
This game takes elements from many different SMT games, press turn system, combining skills from Persona 3 and DDS, it really feels like they took a highlight reel of the games that came before (in terms of gameplay) and mashed em all together it is a great time.
They’re the only developers nowadays that can chunk out qualities in a short time span in between. This is what you can do if you have clear vision, talented team and avoid meagre distractions like DEI/ personal sexual insecurity
This is my most anticipated release this year! Atlus has been on a role with Persona 3 Reload, SMT V Vengeance and now Metaphor! Atlus and jrpg fans are eating well. Seriously I freaking love jrpgs and I am excited to dive into this one
Mega looking forward to this. Enjoyed the demo, big SMT/Persona fan so I knew this was going to be up my alley. Jake - if you've only played P5 in that series, highly recommend P3R that came out this year, and if you can ever get around to it (I know, backlogs are mountains) SMT IV on the 3DS. It seems like Metaphor is taking some of my favorite things from multiple Atlus franchises and melding them into a beast of a game.

Haven’t played any of the Persona games, but am intrigued by the fantasy world this has. About an hour into the demo and I am digging it. Not a fan of “time” is used when doing something, but will give it a go
Pro tip for those who find the constant chirping of JRPG characters like the fairy in this game annoying: Play it in Japanese. I can't be annoyed hearing the same line 100s of times when I don't know what they're saying! This has gotten me through lots of Persona game grind

I am a big Atlus fan so of course I was already beyond hyped for this game. I played the demo and loved what I saw. I do agree it felt heavily tutorialized, as you say, but I didn't mind it because I found the world and characters so compelling, as well as the new twist on the Press Turn combat system! Needless to say, I already have my pre-order and I am hopping to jump into this great adventure in less than two days! Hope all the other players have fun with Metaphor, I think we have something really special here.
This is well done. Im playing the demo, and about an hour in, ii havent actually played much and the world and all is a bit much and dense. Glad it gets more breathable and the busy menu you get used to.
I saw this game was being developed by Atlus and instantly bought it without hesitation. I have only watched 1 trailer and that was this morning and I didn’t even finish it before I knew I needed this game. Been playing for about 3 hours now and it is so unbelievably good
I wish I could like games like this, I just absolutely despise games with a time management system. I need to be able to casually play the game at my own pace, but instead it's like "Oh you stopped and helped this girl look for her cat? Well you missed out on these 5 other things that you could've done that you can never come back to." It stresses me out.
Persona 5 was my favourite game last gen, and literally bought this yesterday for £30. It came this morning. I have the day off but have a few things to do then looks like I'm doing the prologue today 😂
"she's constantly screaming about you being down" to be fair i would be mad too, we can see you using a mage in the goblin dungeon in the video, not hiting any weakness and getting owned lol
I've played persona 5 for a few hours, but couldn't get into the whole "high school drama" aspect of it. But I've played about 10hrs of this game and it's much better for me because it's fantasy. I'm coming from a Witcher 3 and skyrim obsession.
I bought this game a few days after launch and after playing for a few hours I decided to put it down and play through persona 5 first as I've never have before.
Crazy I actually thought the demo areas were fun and super intense This is my first time playing these types of games and I was hooked during the demo Really excited to play the full thing!!
I can understand the complaint of the prologue dragging compared to the rest of the game I find most games Altus creates have a prologue that can drag on a bit especially if you’re playing through the game a second time and already know the world building it’s trying to do although it takes a couple hours to get going their games almost always end up being worth it
1:55 Why the hell would you make the comment about assassinating, "who _YOU THINK_ killed the king"? I'm about 70 hours into the game, and NOW is when I finally got to that "shocking" twist. "Spoiler-free" my ass.
The only similarity between this and Persona is the “Social Links” aspect. There’s no high school BS, you don’t infiltrate people’s hearts or minds etc. the setting is set in a medieval fantasy world, not modern day Japan and you actually venture into the world finding side quests, new dungeons etc. It’s an absolutely brilliant masterpiece that is the perfect definition of old school RPG with modern mechanics.
Some previous Persona games had several hour intros of cutscenes before you got to really fight or explore, KH2 had Twilight Town, so I didn't really feel like the prologue was super long or slow. I was surprised that the demo had so much content in it, but personally felt like the pacing was fine and didn't overstay its welcome. Like if I had just picked the game up without playing the demo I would have zero issues with the prologue. I could see people who played the demo and chose to start over with the full game feeling like it's long though, but that's their own decision.
Atlus has always been a dark horse. They make incredible and really artistic games, but never really break mainstream. The Atlus X Vanillaware games are all phenomenal. They deserve more recognition.
Well I mean except for P5 which is one of the most popular games in the world, but besides that yes I totally agree. I’m still mad at how underrated 13 sentinels is, and I have a feeling this one is going to fly under a lot of people’s radar too. Such a shame.
i hope atlus gets a lot of success from their games just to preserve the turn based genre, glad like a dragon was doing it too. Final fantasy are really heading in an action combat direction and it has been a hit or miss so far.
Im glad i like every type of game and gameplay, i Play sports game (2k, ufc, MLB) i play shooters (COD, Rainbow Six siege, Xdefiant, Battlefield) i play 2d games (Terraria, Hollow night) i play RPG hard asf like (All darksouls, Lies of P, Elden ring) i play car games (the crew, Need for speed, Gran turismo) and now im really really into games like Refantazio
I like the look of it, but I’m interested to know how it differs from Persona 5 aside from the setting. Are there any mechanical differences at all? Not saying it’s bad if it’s effectively a reskin but just curious. Persona 5 is one of my favourite games ever!
Combat is different. It's a bit harder then persona5 and requires more forward thinking. The persona and wildcard is gone. You get archetypes which is kinda persona ish on surface level but is very different in setup and use. There is no change archetype in combat. Story is very different but that's to be expected.
Ive had the game pre-ordered for a while. Ever since announcement, really. Im a huge pwrsona & SMT fan. And this game seems to go above and beyond. I've logged more than 1w hours into the prologue demo already & hyped to get into the full game. Atlus really delivers with their storytelling. Persona 3, 4, 5, Catherine, SMT, Soul Hackers 2. All incredible games. If you like the Fantasy JRPG's but want something a bit more mature than Final Fantasy & Kingdom Hearts, these games re for you. Another honorable mention is Yakuza & Like a Dragon. While not the same teams or studios. They also have some really great storytelling. Another great JRPG from Atlus.
Yes, this could very well be a 'jumping off point' for me. I already have the game pre-ordered because it looks good and is a fresh new title (not a late port or remaster or anything), and if I do like it enough I could finally jump into the Persona series.
Man, you really should play Persona games. The stories alone were enough to make them one of the best franchise ever. Too bad too many ppl brushed it aside just because "it's too anime".
My literal only complaint (as of right now) is that you cannot lock the mini-map to camera view so through the whole demo I kept getting lost because I'd be looking one way, but the mini-map view never changed (Persona spoiled me). Still hoping that some update adds that, but a very great game indeed!
I was hooked by the demo. Battle music=slaps! Gallica=most adorable fairy I’ve ever seen! Archetypes=legendary! World and Setting=attention stealing! I’ve already bought it!!!
The metacritic is only so high because only journalists who were sent early copies have submitted reviews yet. We’ll get better understanding tomorrow. It will probably be somewhere between 90-94
Damn i loved paradigms in XIII so you definitely got my attention. I was thinking of waiting for a sale since i feel like everyone's overhyped the game, but I also still feel the same way about P5 after all this time so it's just me I guess. Regardless I'm gonna just give the demo a shot and see if it grabs me enough to buy it now.
I played the demo after it came out because I hate turn based games and I would every now and then play persona 5 honestly just for the music. This game though has turned my opinion on a dime. They simplified the combat so you don’t go into a turn based battle with lower levels enemies and I would say it’s very generous with the respawn points. I bought the collectors edition and am making my way through a game type I’m not used to and am loving it. Also being able to reset the battle if it’s not going your way and starting the fight fresh is so freaking nice instead of having to die then respawn and fight everything you already fought, such a time saver. Long winded way of saying of all the games to buy this year, buy this one.
@@makkten coming from Xbox, I'm really frustrated with their first party games. The only genuinely good game is HiFi Rush, everything else are mostly overhyped mediocre games. Halo is expected to be built on Unreal Engine 5 but knowing MS, they would probably overhyping the technological advantage of UE5 but the actual games feels like last few decades game with new coat of paint.
I have loved Persona games for a long time. I remember when persona 3 first dropped. But it was Nocturne that brought me back to Atlus. I missed the Persona 1 and 2 time frame for Atlus. But that's ok. I was just a kid at that time. But there were games I have from Atlus that you can't even find mentioned on their website anymore as a past game. Thousand Arms, and Kartia: The Word of Fate. Now I bring up Kartia: The Word of Fate for a very specific reason. While It was a tactics game where you used cards to summon monsters to fight on the battlefield for you. What you got was depending on what cards you combined and their quality. But it very much was a fantasy world of kings and knights with magic too. It was a pretty dark Game at it's time, too. After playing the demo for Metaphor, I find the world feels very similar to the world of Kartia: The Word of Fate. Kartia: The Word of Fate was a game I always wanted to see them continue on with its story. And you can see much of the directions they tried to go that are used in some way in their current games. Would be rather interesting if Metaphor is the future world of that original game. I do think it's possible though it would mean something terrible had to of happened to the races that lived at that original time. of course, that all could be nothing more than wishful thinking. Either way, I'm very excited for Friday, October 11th 2024.
Harsh Condescending Reply: Wow, you really think "Metaphor" is somehow connected to that obscure PS1 game? That's quite a stretch. Kartia was a niche title that most people don’t even remember. It’s time to let go of those outdated connections and just enjoy the new game for what it is. Maybe focus on the present instead of dragging in all that old stuff. It’s hard to believe you think there’s a meaningful link here.

(Also one thing I wish they'd've taken from SMT is more availability for combat and getting to it faster, the demo especially seems to drag)
Edit: lol you mentioned the opening dragging
2nd: edit, please Persona fans chill.
@thatdudeinmaroon Your opinion. Thanks for not adding any meaningful conversation.
I couldn't imagine being a Kingdom Hearts fan, for example, if it wasn't so damn popular cuz all I'd hear about is Finall fantasy 😂
Also good to hear Vengeance is making it more palatable for some.
People keep comparing this to p5, little they did know it’s a p3 spinoff, I mean you already got the mc Makoto Yuki, Yukari(your fairy companion), akihiko with horns, and long eared Mitsuru. Wouldn’t be surprise if Aegis shows up as well lol
The light vibrant style started with p5 it worked with this but not the cyber game because originally that style was dark but they Wanted it like p5
Dude stop your breaking the dimensions
You also have weird eyed Chihaya so there's at least one p5 character
Do you know how badly I want this to be what happens AFTER the events of Persona 3?
The mc is a combination of makoto yuki and aigis.
This game takes elements from many different SMT games, press turn system, combining skills from Persona 3 and DDS, it really feels like they took a highlight reel of the games that came before (in terms of gameplay) and mashed em all together it is a great time.
2 Atlas JRPG's and 2 Yakuza games in less than a year. They are quite literally making these games faster than I can ply them

Lol, thanks for the spoiler warning. I wouldn't have known the spoiler was a spoiler until you spoiled it... Spoiler
I love Gameranx vids, and appreciate these before ya buy series!

Not necessarily a bad thing. Once they go mainstream many companies abandon their original fanbase and lose what made them popular in the first place.

What? This is outdated compared to the groundbreaking games of today. I see no reason to pay for less.
@@threestars2164 which groundbreaking games?
