Such a unique combination of career choices:
    1. Being a doctor.
    2. Whispering to a bunch of weirdos on the internet who are obsessed with other sandwich breath having red in the face doctors. Which I'm glad I am one of those weirdos. 👍 you the man Gill

I appreciate your method of mentioning what is happening and of obtaining consent. It is not only quite professional, but modern. I wager that many people have had bad experiences with doctors who were not informative and treated them as a specimen rather than a person (I know I have). It's good to know the next generations of doctors are learning to treat others with respect.

As a person whose only in-class education relating to the human body comes from public school health class and a single introduction to biology class, the lymphatic system has always been an enigma to me and was not as thoroughly covered compared to some of the more “well-known” bodily systems (primarily reproductive, digestive, and circulatory). Therefore, I’ll be looking forward to learning more. Thanks for the great content Dr. Gill!

I have been on the internet for 2 years trying to figure out as to why I have these swollen lymph nodes.. with severe dry mouth after I got Covid in Jan 2021. I’ve been to ENT, Endocrinologist.. ultrasounds, MRI & still no proper solution. Just from your video I feel I learned so much & have a better understanding, now I can give the doctors more of a guide with proper terms/ knowledge!
Thanks so much! Blessings to you! 🍀✨

Do you have any dental issues? I’ve had swollen lymph nodes for over a year now, following an incomplete filling of one of my teeth, and a botched filling of the tooth next to it. I had thyroid cancer and had my right thyroid removed, sept 2022. Still dealing with these issues, I believe I have a long lasting dental infection (due to the root canal I had when I was little, I have a crown and believe this to be infected). I have many teeth with issues as my gums are receding and my doctor labeled it severe periodontal disease. I have had dry mouth for years, I got Covid back in December of 2020 or 2021 I don’t even remember. But I take medications that a side effect is dry mouth so this issue has been dismissed rather quickly. Trying to see a dentist who will look at all my teeth and not just one tooth per appointment is rather challenging.
I have tonsil stones as well, and an ENT I saw April 2023 told me to plan for surgery to remove my tonsils and adenoids. Then she left the practice and I won’t see another ENT until February 2024. I’m in constant pain, unable to eat a lot of food. I struggle swallowing my own spit at times. My situation feels kind of hopeless. I’ve just been dealing with this for so long now.

One time I had a swollen lymph node and didn’t know what it was so I had completely convinced myself it was a tumor, and it got worse because of my stress. So when the doctor was like “this? It’s just a swollen lymph node no biggie you probably had a cold” I burst into tears in relief so hard it scared her

I'm 20 and one on my neck on the middle left side got big and hurt a bit, usually the one in the tonsil area get swollen when i'm sick
The next night i got a high fever, after 5 days or so the lymph node went down in size rather quickly, in about some hours, but it still is bigger than normal but isn't paining when i touch it. 4 days passed and it still is that size. And i'm so anxious i can't even remember what i felt like before i noticed the node.

I have an MPN (ET), and sarcoidosis, both rare disorders, and some other disorders. Recently I have noticed a lump on my neck, near my throat, which I’m unsure is lymph, salivary or thyroid issue (such as a nodule). When I was first diagnosed with sarcoidosis a consultant mentioned salivary gland, but no more mentioned, however that was before the ET dx. I plan to try to see my GP and ask to explore this, emphasising my conditions. It can be like a no man’s land when you have conditions and speak with a GP, as they can be quite dismissive to a patient’s concerns. (When you can get an appointment).

As someone with autism and a dislike for physical contact, I've had way too many uncomfortable experiences with doctors who don't explain their process but just get to it. It is probably worth mentioning that the actual palpation must be quite firm and press deep enough to feel the lymph nodes. Not causing pain to a normal node but more than superficial light touch demonstrated on a plastic model. Lymph nodes are not on the surface as the model might imply.

    • @DrJamesGill

    Dr. James Gill,
Thank you so much for the informative video. My have two persistently swollen lymph nodes since my pfizer vaccine doses back in May 2021. They have been persistently swollen for over a year now. One on each side of the front of my neck. They are very swollen, move easily and are very tender upon palpation. What kind of doctor should I see for this issue?

Not at all. Warwick is post grad, and we have a wide age range. I think 50 has been the oldest I’m aware of
      I started at age 22.

Lovely video-very informative & relaxing! I do have a question. Do different countries teach doctors to palpate lymph nodes facing different directions? The reason I ask is I'm from the U.S, and while I've had my lymph nodes examined in this fashion many times in life, I've never had a physician do the examination whilst standing behind me-they've only ever stood in front of me. Is there a reason for this, and does it matter as far as having an accurate examination goes?

Awesome- informative and relaxing video once again, Dr. Gill. I really admire how you noticed your asmr (and medical exam vid) fame and so you pivoted into making more for us in both communities
...or the cross section community of us who enjoy both aspects, haha. It's really cool.

Hi Derek 👋 I hope you’re keeping well. You seem to be catching quite a draft to your chest there..? At least you’re with a doctor though, best place for you under the circumstances 🙂

Thank you for your video. It was extremely helpful. I do have a question. I have a 2 cm to a lymph node that's been swollen since 2015. They don't know how fast it's grown. But they said it has grown since 2015. My last CT scan was about a month ago. It is causing me pain. And I believe it's because of where it's at. But the ENT said it should not be painful. But it is, and that's the last person I've seen about it. What should I do? Please help.

What about along the throat? Like where the pulse is found? And only on the left side? Is that a lymph node?

Is always the Left Supraclavicular Lymph Node a sign of malignancies?

    • @DrJamesGill
      @DrJamesGill  3 роки тому

There is no such thing as “always or never” in medicine. But I would definitely want to be able to tell a patient WHY there was a supra clavicular LN

Hi dr. Pls help me out with the information. I have many lymph nodes in my body, in my neck, under the jaw, in groins, behind the ear. But all stay in the same size for years, and it's invisible unless i touch them. I am scared, are they dangerous?

Good night Dr. Gill. How are you? I just came across your page and found your video to be very informative. I am 41 of age and below I have listed my symptoms
    1. I have been having burning pain along the right side of my body mainly since August 2019. I have had 2 MRIs. One of my head which came back normal and another of my spinal cord. That showed 2 bulged dics (1 in neck and other in lower back). I generally get lymph nodes under my arms but they go away within months. I now have a lymph node in my neck (right side) and just today realised by collar bone looks a little enlarged.
    2. My throat feels off. I can swallow fine but it has this dry feeling.
    3. My right ear feels strange as well ( a full feeling) Since I was younger I have had a ringing in my ear whenever I am around load music. Especially the right ear. My hearing is fine. (We do not have an ear, nose and throat specialist on Island. They generally fly but due to Covid 19 none has arrived nice 2019.)
    4. The burning pain gets worst around my period or when ovulating. Recent ultrasound shows I have 4 fibroids. The largest of which is the size of a gulf ball.
    4. Thyroid test was negative.
    5. It is very hard for me to relax or sleep and I am always tense.
    6. Xray of back shows I have a slightly curved spinal cord.
    7. My chest at times feel tight
I should also make mention that my older sister had a huge lipoma removed from the back of her left shoulder this year.
Is it possible for you to give me some advice? I live in a developing nation and not all medical equipments are available here.
    I am currently taking Gabapentin
    Thanks in advance

I love these videos! They’re always very informative, and help create more self awareness of our bodies from a medical standpoint which I believe to be important.
I do have a question, though it may be a silly one, but does external trauma cause swelling of lymph nodes? You talk about swelling by infection or disease but say you were in an accident or had a sporting injury to your neck or jaw, would that cause swelling?
I suppose you could argue it’s brought on by something internally but just out of curiosity?

There may be a reaction to something. Theoretically there could be an lymphatic response with a fracture

I have no knowledge of medical care but out of curiosity.. are the cancerous lymph nodes kind of secondary response to a primary source of cancerous infection in the body?

    • @DrJamesGill

Cancer isn’t an infection. Worrying lymph nodes are often from spread
