@@incith Not really. "...this metal tool..."? Holds the can the wrong way up, uses kitchen knives... It's helpful if you've got no idea at all of what to do, and she's got a lovely voice, but no, she doesn't know much about it. Just enough to get by, really.
@@estellec2019 I literally went out and bought a cheap knife after watching this video last month to cut the expanding foam around some walls. It worked exceptionally well and I would highly recommend it, the flat blade allowed very even cuts. I used a chef's knife instead of a bread knife, and I sharpened it first - but I digress. Worked great. I can't think of anything better suited; I tried a hacksaw first and it was a pain. Nothing compares to the knife!
The filler I used literally has in its instructions that you can cut it with a sharp knife. On a different note, I don't have a whole range of tools available ( I'm a woman who rarely diys or repairs things so I don't need so many). I don't have a chisel, for example but have a screwdriver. I don't think it would be worth for me to buy a chisel only for one job. It may be quite an outrageous thing for a professional or a man who regularly diys to not use the proper tool but for a woman (or anyone with an odd job to do), I think it's fine to creatively use something available.
Please take no notice of the negative comments on here. I’m a Level 3 painter and decorator and a Level 2 plasterer. You did everything right and made a good job of it. If a bread knife works, why not use it? 🤷🏻♀️ Your screwdriver made a great chisel, although it probably won’t work so well as a screw driver now 😂. You got the loose plaster out (and Mr Wasp out of his tomb 🐝), successfully cleaned out the area to be filled and you sprayed with water, which helps the filler to adhere to the substrate. I suspect you used the can upright rather than upside down simply because you were working at ceiling height. The ceiling would have been in the way of the can. Nicely trimmed with your bread knife, sanded and filled. Enjoy that cup of tea. You deserve it! 👍🏻 P.S. I liked the face you drew on the cured expanding foam, but I think we all know that most construction workers would be making that look like a willy!! 😜 Well done! Great skills!
Your no plasterer or painter even at play school level your like him a clown, if a job is worth doing it’s worth doing right , the first question any tradesman asks himself before rectifying a defect is what is causing the problem and why and there lies the answer to the course of remedial action required Mr or Mrs Bob the Builder !!!
So far, this is the best video I've seen demonstrating the properties of spray foam and how the finished product looks like on an actual hole, instead of some pro just spraying it on a piece of plywood and talking out of his ass. Very helpful to me because I have similar gaps in the outside walls of the house I just moved into. Now I have a better understanding of what to expect, thanks for posting.
I don't usually leave comments but you hit the nail on the head! Every video I've seen so far has been people sticking things together/ spraying it into fake pipes etc. This video was clear, concise, and showed me exactly what I wanted to see, in a real world situation. Thanks @HOW2NOT2 for uploading this video.
I only imagined before I found your video what I wanted to do, it comes as a visualization. You did exactly what I imagined to do, as my old MH has rotten at the base of a couple panels from the rain. I want to also get rain gutters. Panels are to big just for myself. Labor these days is a crime but people need work I can't afford. You used simple tools & I learned the products I NEEDED 💪. Thank you!
Thank you. I just used some expanding foam but did not realize by how much it expands. Got a big unfinished air gap in my apt bathroom and it'll take a few times to fully fill the gap but this helped with what i'll expect to see later! Thank you!
6 years late for me but luvley to see a lady DIYer on here (from the part of the country where I was born too). Just what I need, similar gap in the corner of my bedroom too. I'm going to wallpaper over it afterwards.
Thank you !!! I am currently redecorating my flat ... and OMG the holes and gaps in window frames!!! You can tell that the landlady has hired a handy man to what I can describe a SH!#T job !!! I am now taking this into my hands and will do a proper job !!! Thai building is a new built and has been built on wet ground so cracks are common !! These people only used filler on top filler but haven’t actually filled the gaps !!! So I have chipped away all the loose filler or anything else they have used it !!! I am on maternity leave and in lockdown so it will be nice to get this place ready for Christmas!!
hellooo, Nice vid. I have an awkward gap in my kitchen that extends along beneath my oven and lower kitchen cabinets. Do you think it's okay to use this method?
Is it used for out side wall ? There are gaps between wall and roof and rain water comes into tha room. Will this foam strongly join the roof and wall and long lust?
Foam makes a poor substitute for Mortar. An 80 lb bag of Type S Mortar is about $9, why not repair it correctly while paying half as much as you would the Foam and PolyCell? 🤨
Using a screwdriver as a chisel, a bread knife as a saw - WTF???
She knows what she's doing.

Omg, I’ve been wondering how I was going to fill the gaping hole between the floor and bottom of wall. Thank you so much, fixing this tomorrow 👍🏼😉
This is the issue I'm having which is why I haven't finished my flooring
Exactly what I need to do. Thanks. I thought this would be the best solution and you have confirmed it as well as providing useful tips.

Hey Mate hot butter knife heated will make a smooth cut eliminating your sanding
Useful video. You nay find that holding the can upside down will permit less messy flow. Wonderful English voice. Thx.
I love the humour on this! Nice video :)
This has absolutely helped me so much! Thanks a million x

hellooo,

It works better if you put the can upside down while spraying
Can we use it to fill gap between pvc gutter and cement board?
Great stuff, just what I’m looking for
Great to hear!
What about a big deep hole not just in the plaster but around a waste bath tub pipe now no longer being used?
Brilliant .. and thank you.
after foam dry can i drill for a screw?enough strength?
Well done!
does polycell make a sandpaper?
Chill voice.
What do you recommend for a wide hole about 10 inches wide but not too deep
Polyfilla usually does a good job at filling holes that isn't deep but you may need two coats depending how deep the hole is.
@@how2not22 What would you recommend for smaller gaps around the frame of a bay window?
Nice and handy Repair
Great video thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Massive help! Thank you 😊
thank you for sharing - very helpful tip about the bread knife. Cheers Simon / Adelaide. ps LOVE your accent :)
A craft knife is probably the traditional tool to use here. Can't believe she hasn't got one.
Gets the job done, some Kens and Karen's on here, nice tip thanks
Right on
Plasterer has told me to fit skirting using expanding foam behind for damp prof
Thanks for this, so quick and easy!
You're welcome!

Why have you got so many holes in your walls and ceilings how does it get soo Bad mine doesn't even get that it doesn't even have that problem at all.

ok so you replaced a section of stone with foam.... this is the worst "fix" ever. You just ruined this part of your house. smh
