its hard to say how much this guy has made my life better, i know that sound strange but just reflect for a moment how much music has enriched your life
Music is my 2nd Grand Passion in life…after dogs. My whole life has a soundtrack, complete songs pop into my head. A life without music and dogs…unacceptable.🎶🎶🐾🐾❤️❤️
Mr. TOM EARL PETTY hats off to you, you are so likable. Better than the beatles. Better than the stones. No ego . Just pure and simple rock n roll. PETTY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i was reading the comments ( not all) there are some 3 months to 12yrs. Toms music will never get old. he was a true rocknroller. but SO humble, so honest. but he Always stayed grounded and true to rock. most sell out sadly. i thought it funny. when eddie said all the girls LOVED Tom😁 cause I always have have. I'm no spring chicken lol. but when he was gone all the music by him I had never heard before blew my mind. miss you Tom so so so so much.
I love the part when he say's "Don't play that any more". funny. I saw him in concert in Indy last July. I always liked them but after that I realized how much. It makes us wish we could go back in time and have known them.
This clip just cracks me up when Tom says it went on for weeks, with the first chords, some lyrics came finally, and people banging on the wall saying "don't play that anymore" -- LOLOL! Seems rather appropriate -- "Waiting" for the song to come together was certainly worth it! He had the most incredible smile! Missing you, Tom.
When I was 10 this song came out. I told my mother Tom wrote this song for me because I was waiting on some big news. In 1985 when he wrote Rebels I told her he wrote that song for me. I was born on Sunday in Atlanta. I told her I wanted to be in his band and she said keep practicing your piano and when you graduate from college if you still want to you can. When I was a freshman in college the Wilbury's came out and mother said maybe we will both be groupies 😄. Tom's in Heaven with mother now, I like to think they are groovin! 🎸
I love how he built the song piece by piece and came to through sheer repetition, waiting for the right idea to introduce itself. So often with these wonderful songs you assume they came in a bolt of inspiration, but it shows how much of the creative process is about stubborn persistence. Super inspiring.
Well, like the man said, the waiting is the hardest part :) It takes a while, with some songs, to get them over the line. Very occasionally you can be lucky and it comes out almost in a stream.
The beauty and secret of great music lies within the lyrics. Dylan, Petty, Young, Jagger, Nelson, and a bunch of others really cant sing that well but damn the strong lyrics, the tight band and the craftmanship are what make these artists great!
I agree, what a way to open a song: "well, don't it feel like heaven right now/don't it feel like something from a dream. " God, what a songwriter, what a man he was! So missed.
Ilove the SHIT out of this song. it actually responsible for me getting into his music. I heard it a few times on the radio, went out and bought the album and the rest is history. Best $15 I've ever spent.
true that. just growing up from mid 70's to the 90's, really, all his stuff is in your life, even if you don't like him! I'm just coming around again to re-discovering his music after hearing refugee for who knows how many times on the radio. but like eddie vedder says, you remember the feeling in your gut when you hear each of these songs, especially like The Waiting, this one has taken on a whole new meaning for me now as I'm in my early 30's. I can't stop listening to it, it's beautiful!
Petty has always been my favorite. I try to see him every time he comes to FL. Loved him since I was younger. Classic, excellent showman, awesome in concert and I never tire of seeing or hearing him! Excellent documentary!
Great song... always was. And not a big Eddie fan BUT - he nailed that. I like that - respect and love for Tom. My opinion of Eddie just went up 1000%. WTG y'all. Hang in there TOM!
Stand your ground! Waiting is the hardest part..God do I know! God bless this talented man.We will miss him and my Forever in heaven husband .Play well my friend and loved one
By far and way above the rest the best Tom Petty song. Has good a song as Dylan ever made and has good a song as the Beatles ever made. Tom was a classic American rock God. His music as it was played and produced
Whenever I feel down, when life gets on top of me and I can't shake off that feeling, I fall back on Tom and he does the job. Every time. It's so sad that he's gone, but what a body of work he left for us.
I remember around 1979(give or take) I bought an 8 track of Your Gonna Get It after I head Joe Anthony "The Godfather of Rock and Roll" in San Antonio play "I need to Know" on 99.5 KISS FM. My 1st wife said "I never heard of Tom Petty". I use to request Joe and Lou to play it all the time back then. Met the drummer a few years ago at sycamore cove, he was a guest speaker for C.A. Peace Out Tom.
"Baby don't it feel like heaven right now" is a great way to open a song! Not only that but alot of the greatest songs ever written have taken weeks or even years to write.
Just lookin how to play the waiting and found this gem ! I sure know that “don’t play that anymore” line ! So funny ! But you just gotta do it over and over and over !
He's so nonchalant about it all but this stuff is really history. Benmont is right; "The Waiting" is a great way to open an album "Baby don't it feel like Heaven right now" One of the best! "Don't play that anymore!" haha
7 people must have been surfing the web on their phones, drunk, late at night and passed out with their thumb on the screen to miss that like button. Eddie Vedder and Tom Petty... How can you not like that combo?
I'll be your breathin' heart,I'll be your cryin' fool ,don't let this go to far ,don't let it get to you...............things may come to those who wait but only the things left by those who hustle. Marshall May 17 /2017 XOX
The Super Beatles are pretty much stage props. They aren't really even used except maybe on the recordings. Mike Campbell uses uses Fenders Princetons and Tweeds and a VOX AC30 that are behind the Super Beatle facade.
I have to disagree with sbusnello. The artists you mentioned, referring to their classic works, are great singers in the sense that their passion and commitment to the song and the performance is never in doubt. Singing is more than just having a 3 octave range, perfect pitch or basso profondo. It is art.
Nothing but tears in my eyes, what a beautiful human being Tom Petty was (and Eddie Vedder's childlike adoration has me choked up too.) 🎸❤🎸❤
BAM BAM "Don't play that ANYMORE" 🤣 Loved Tom's sense of humor.
its hard to say how much this guy has made my life better, i know that sound strange but just reflect for a moment how much music has enriched your life
@Nicholas couldn’t agree more.
Music is my 2nd Grand Passion in life…after dogs. My whole life has a soundtrack, complete songs pop into my head. A life without music and dogs…unacceptable.🎶🎶🐾🐾❤️❤️
It's not strange at all! Tom Petty has enriched the lives of millions with his music!

Baby don't it feel like Heaven right now
Damn, I love this lyric.
Dude Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is the soundtrack to my life
Petty is a music God, up there with Beatles, Dylan and so on.
Higher up
Better
Tom Petty and his music are so solid and consistent. It rocks, yet it's mellow too. It's Hip and it's timeless.
I love the part when he say's "Don't play that any more". funny. I saw him in concert in Indy last July. I always liked them but after that I realized how much. It makes us wish we could go back in time and have known them.

I think he was just maximizing comedic effect. It's hard to believe he wouldn't have owned a house at this point.
@@Ben-to8vt yes, and he seems to have had an incredible sense of humor!❤️❤️

He was a cool cowboy, who rode his way... he wrote classics, as good as anyone! One of my favorites for sure.
I just love this man and his music. Truly miss him.
Simply the greatest American Band, period.
We'll nerver forget you, Tom... The waiting it's over... Rock In Peace !
A true talent. Gonna miss him
Best Tom Petty song ever. Miss him like crazy
What an amazing song in music history, I love that performance with Eddie, He kills it You can tell he just was in heaven being there with Tom.
I have always loved Tom Petty. Throughout every interview he had seemed to me to be just a regular, humble guy who achieved greatness
Oh tom what a love
I love how he built the song piece by piece and came to through sheer repetition, waiting for the right idea to introduce itself. I fuckin love Tom Petty! What a cool dude.

U agree totaly
My favorite interview clip from Tom Petty is how he wrote "The Waiting." So funny, but so genuine in how hard he worked at his craft.
Such an amazing song. Tom Petty was a song writing genius. The lyrics just blow my mind.
The beauty and secret of great music lies within the lyrics. Dylan, Petty, Young, Jagger, Nelson, and a bunch of others really cant sing that well but damn the strong lyrics, the tight band and the craftmanship are what make these artists great!

The live in 85 concert. Do yourself a favor. Mike Campbell absolutely kills in it. Blows me away every time.
Petty has always been my favorite. I try to see him every time he comes to FL. Loved him since I was younger. Classic, excellent showman, awesome in concert and I never tire of seeing or hearing him! Excellent documentary!

By far and way above the rest the best Tom Petty song. Has good a song as Dylan ever made and has good a song as the Beatles ever made. Tom was a classic American rock God. His music as it was played and produced
His music really powerfull and played perfectly.
Cool video. TP is amazing and it’s nice to still have EV around. Not lost to the grunge scene like so many others.
Recently bought a twelve string guitar, I always find myself playing this anytime i pick it up! Tom is such an inspiration to me
Deep stuff winding webs into reality. Transcending time and reality itself. Music is the backbone of reality.
Whenever I feel down, when life gets on top of me and I can't shake off that feeling, I fall back on Tom and he does the job. Every time. It's so sad that he's gone, but what a body of work he left for us.
One of his best

His opening lyrics always hit hard
Incredible song! Thank you, Tom Petty.

Miss him so much.
King 👑
Just a little lick 🤘🏻 #ForeverPetty
I guess I'm an old dinasour. I had this song on a 45 record, I believe night watchmen was the B side
Is that an Elvis tee shirt? I remember Neil Young wearing the same tee shirt at one point.
So inspiring. What a guy
Rest In peace Tom
If you don't have a TP and the HB's song on the soundtrack of your life, then you ain't got a rock and roll bone in your body.
Yes true, a real master, but also a bit stoned😎
legend
Just lookin how to play the waiting and found this gem ! I sure know that “don’t play that anymore” line ! So funny ! But you just gotta do it over and over and over !
Timeless

That is a great riff........
Bro I'm from the future
And i want to say that his song
Love is a long way is used in GTA VI
Nice exploration of the creative process. As a writer (mostly of nonfiction, but also poetry), I can relate --
Amazing. :)
Rip legend
When I hear that riff, I crank up the radio
Smoke on Tom! Mr MOJO!
Eddie Vedder is one of my favorite people ever. And I about lost my shit when I heard his voice.
