2020, still waiting for this!
Wtf is going on with the delay?
Their website is down. Never a good sign.
It’s so weird just stumbling upon this after it’s already dead - like finding the grave of an old school friend’s stillborn child you never even knew they tried to have.
Try 2023 and still waiting for this.
2034 still waiting 🎉
This is Material Defender aboard Vertigo 1 requesting access to the Underground
Love it
Hey, I was here first
Technically Vertigo 1 was destroyed during the Intro for Descent 3
ERigo but M.D. still lives
If you have studied the standard publisher agreement, Little Orbit reserves the right to suspend access to the Underground, pending litigation.
Good luck, Material Defender.
Dravis out.
In early May 2019, Descendent Studios' homepage was taken offline and multiplayer servers for game builds stopped responding. Unofficial posts by a developer from Descendent Studios indicated that all development on the game had been completely halted, this being due to financial and legal issues that developed between Descendent Studios and the publisher Little Orbit. The original posts were deleted, but UA-camr Montoya documented the posts and history of the development woes in a video uploaded to his channel.[14]
Little Orbit initiated legal action against Descendent Studios in January 2020, alleging the studio of breach of contract, negligent representation, fraud, and libel. Little Orbit asserts that the studio had lied about the state of the Descent license from Interplay when it entered the publishing deal in September 2017, having come to believe since that Interplay has revoked the license from Descendent, and sought at least US$2 million in damages from the studio.[15] The following month, the developers reiterated that the game is not cancelled and expressed hope of eventually releasing the game at an undetermined future date.
The license for Descent was cursed the moment Interplay got pissy about the GOG deal.
We have sporadic updates from the developer on Steam. Long story short, developers are going to accept a settlement, but they cannot talk about the entire matter due to a court order. If people have access to the court filings, they're welcome to read along.
@@Blueoriontiger This is a long long time coming. Is their any indication they can go forward with this project?
@@captainspire9094 They'll only say when the court proceedings are done, and then make an official announcement then. Regarding the actual status of the game, it was apparently in beta and ready to polish, before all of this hit.
Apparently they can't also work on the game as part of the court order too, so no progress was made at all since the lawsuit.
@@Blueoriontiger That's hard to hear because those games were the staple of the gaming I enjoyed and loved in my Dos days. I think these guys could remake old games like Tracker from the old Rainbird company, or Hi-Octane, or Terminal Velocity. Something to get people really into the company to have some real support behind them. But then again, I never can understand the legalities behind this all.
Finally! I loved Descent 1&2 in the nineties.
this looks bad.. if you want really descent experience buy Overload on steam.. one of my favorite remake ..
I remember playing Descent back in my highschool days in the Library (Windows 98 SE mind you) and it was a blast.
Descent was one of the first games I played as a child and I still have fond memories of it. It's such a cool, simple and niche concept few games exist like it. I was looking forward to this game but shame it ended up being vaporware :( Maybe a few years down the road someone else will try again.
there is the game OVERLOAD recently made by the original developpers of descent
And a free expansion called Overload: First Strike which contains recreations of the levels from the first Descent game. Highly recommended!
I still play the originals. Still just as fun now as when I was a kid. I cannot wait to see more. This looks amazing. I cannot express how excited I am to play a new version of this game. What a breathe of fresh air, this is a genre that has been mission for too long.
Lol, I have spotted footage from one of my Descent 3 videos. I could immediately tell because it say "Ass" instead of "Rear View" on the rear view camera XD
And nah, I don't mind that you used it :P
Cypher501 That's exceedingly cool! Yep, I'm sure Kajisan pulled available footage from UA-cam to cut that opening together. Glad you enjoyed it. - viewmaster
***** It's epic stuff indeed :)
+Doomguy 5th That would be my little brother! :)
+Descendent Studios I hope to someday find demos of the single-player campaign of Descent: Underground on youtube. I've downloaded all of the D1, D2 and D2 Vertigo levels from youtube into mp3 format. I didn't get most of Cypher501's, because he either talks and/or adds in additional sound effects. Not that I have a problem with what he does, it's just not what I'm looking for. When I was a kid, I played D1 and D2. I liked the sounds, and I liked the concept of blowing up robots, destroying a reactor core, then getting the hell out of dodge before the whole place went kablooey. Well, when I say I played, I mean I fired the primary weapons by holding down the control key on a keyboard; either my dad or my friend would do everything else. My dad would get so dizzy, nauseous and pissed off, that he would threaten to break the D1 and D2 disks into pieces and throw them in the garbage if I ever asked him to play. I'm totally blind, so I'll never be able to play this or any other Descent game, but at least I can play vicariously threw others.
I reaaaallly hope the music is just as epic as in descent 1
+Big Bad Cormorant I used to love the music too, i think these days a lot of people just mute game music and have their own music in the background.
soo where is it now???
Oh yeah! Finally! In all the years of advancing in video gaming since Descent 3, I've still never found anything that quite like it. So happy it's coming back.
Hate to sound pessimistic but I'm only preordering if it has the original graphics (upscaled to 1080p and maybe even a 16:9 ratio of course) and original midi soundtrack as an option. That game was what got me into hardcore gaming and that soundtrack is my all time favourite midi score of any game to this day. I want to be brought back to what left such a huge impact on me more so than just a modern sci fi fps flight game with descent aesthetics. I'm really hoping they do this.
gabagabahey
@@regis5063 I have not seen that in over 20 years!
@@DANRYX Fellow cheater lol. Some codes of this era are unforgettable. I recommend you make a search for DXX-Rebirth, I guarantee you will have fun.
oh yes!!! I've been waiting 15 years for this, god dammit! :)
this just makes me want to play the origninal Descent II
Yeah, guys, i love you! Let's back the LEGEND!!!
Oh my god...i'm...i'm crying... Descent 2 was one of the greatest games i ever played on my ps1...when the disk broke it took me 7 years and cypher501 for me to find gog. But still. Getting a new descent game with 600,000$ kickstarter is amazing. Thank you so much dude. If you want when i get a newly built PC i want to help any way i can
This is gonna have to be amazing to live up to Descent 1 and 2. I played Overload, as well. It's a decent game, but, didn't like the story, and it's just not like the originals, at all. The feel is way off. For me, anyways. Still love the first two. The music, the atmosphere, the gameplay are all just perfect, even to this day.
The Hidden Paw It is a lot to live up to, but most of the audience has never played Descent nor is even aware of what it is or was, 16 years has been too long. We have partnered with some of the best pilots in the world and they are helping to ensure we get the flight and feel right. Check out this video to see if we got it: ua-cam.com/video/H-MGIZlvUyM/v-deo.html
@@DescendentStudios How is it going now?
Was it ever released ?
@@eriklarson9137 Think they are caught up in some sort of legal issue with Descent.
@@jamesrobbins2167 Nope. And, it could be they moved on to Twitter, or some other forum, to keep people posted on it's status, because, they haven't posted anything on UA-cam for a year.
Such a shame it will never happen
That epic moment , decent threw my whole childhood, now in 2016 recalling old times . Show.
Not sure why this was recommended to me way out here in 2023. But hey ho.
No way.......... They are making a new Descent game!?!?!?!?!?!?! SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
they already did. Overload. its from the guys who made freespace and descent.
WOW guy's, this is an awsome trailer. The oldskool and new footage of Underground
combined with the awsome soundtrack it almost made me cry of joy. (maybe a little tear then. 8))
I even did not know that Overload was out until today, when i was wondering what was of the Descent franchise nowadays. (Damn you Steam for not letting me know all those years)
So i both Overload immediately. Looks totaly awsome. So i looked up some early gameplay of Underground.
And i have to say that footage does not look as great as the footage you guy's show in this trailer, nor as Overload. Overload trailer did give me the feeling of Descent from the 90's.
For short, the cool and stunning graphics actionpacked spaceshooter we all love so mutch.
The gameplay footage of Underground (on youtube) lacked that punch a bit. But the 29sec teaser you guy's posted on you're website gives me more hope.
So for now i don't really know what to think about Underground. Will have to wait and see i gues.
I was 14y when Descent 1 came out (MSdos) and i still love all those games today. ♥♥♥
THANKS !! And yeah, check out Overload it is a good game, we need more people playing Six Dof in order to bring the genre back, and check out Descent (2019) - very soon!
@@DescendentStudios Absolute terrific job on Overload devs. Game is totally awesome in every way. You really stayed by its true roots.
I even like the challenge mode, its very fun to play. I'm definitely gonna check out Descent (2019). BIG thank you to all devs. ♥♥♥
@@DescendentStudios how is the scam money? Did you cut and run to your vacation resort of choice yet?
For yall waiting:
From what i gather, the were v.close to release + then someone started giving them trouble w licensing so they had to shut down.
It would be amazing go see it, but at this point i dont think its got much hope :/
I remember playing the descent games back in the 90s, played em quite a bit, gotta say, this trailer is making me drool, especially after seeing the nostalgic intro in the beginning. what a difference. but really i must say, the graphics look amazing. cant wait to see how the final game turns out!
Awesome reedit guys and some great new footage just one more day to go fingers crossed ;)
I need this game in my life!
play Overload from original descent developers (best!!!)
I am sorry, but this is Descent in name only. The whole concept does not feel like descent.
im going to cry, i ve been waiting a new game of descent
i have waiting this game for years!
What an amazing trailer for Descent! Good job. :) Nice build up.
2019 ? 2016 in the video ???
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OOOOOOOOOOOOH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Can't f**kin believe it!!!!!! Descent is my alltime favorite childhood game!!!!! And now there's a another coming!!!!!! I'm gonna fuckin cry!!!!!!!
Thanks for your props, well wishes, concerns, and feedback. As others have noted, we started this campaign with a big idea and little in artwork or game. In one month, we built our first pass on a couple ships, a couple maps, and some very basic game play. In one month. With lots of great feedback from our passionate backers.
Imagine what we can do with a full development cycle. :-)

Michael Morlan Sure such a likely story after Interplay gave the dev's of Sol Contingency the cold shoulder when they were willing to negotiate. But look here, 6 months later a new Descent game in production. I speculate that they saw how good SC looked in Unreal Engine and didn't want it to outshine their old IP that they let stagnate for over a decade. The fans been asking for a new Descent for along time. So a small group of fans wanted to make a reimagining. With following the C&D, they removed all references to Descent and continued with their project. Why now, after all this time Interplay decides to make a new Descent? Is it to rub it in the dev's face of SC or trying to save face that they did what Interplay failed to do when the fans wanted a new Descent?
Michael Morlan Hope you make the inside of the cockpit like the original, didn't quite like how it looked in the trailer. Other than that i think this game could reach a high potential, Descent was one of my favourite PC games back in the day.
soinelle85 SC isn't in Unreal, it's using Cryengine
Those tunnel scenes remind me of Jet Force Gemini where you do the minigame with the robot.
The original Descent was one of the few FPS games I got to play at single-digit ages (since it had no blood, just explosions). Needless to say, I'm still a fan.
Looks great, but link to developers is dead so i guess it was a fail.
It was. They even blamed the steam community for the games failure and then delisted to get rid of the bad reviews. Hell, they banned people from their forums for calling them out on their BS too. They even went as far as to make up a bullshit story about their publisher withholding the game from release to hide the fact that they cut and run with peoples money
@@xedrickOG That's just sad. I see no reason why the devs had to act like that.
i enjoyed playing descent 2 demo so much back in 1997-1998... will pay for this
Nice one Eric and co.
Congrats on getting the $600K.
Speaking as someone that's been playing since the first game, you've definitely got my attention! Hopefully this project will ACTUALLY be released, unlike some other past attempts!
Was it ever released ?
@@jamesrobbins2167 sort of
omg i can feel the motion sickness coming back already hahaha nice job guys.
digisuboob motion sickness is Descent's most important feature.
+Michael Bincal And arthritis. All us keyboard and mouse gamers now have it, haha
I got Overload and it is everything I hoped the new Descent would be (will be?). Anyway Overload is great and available on Steam and GOG if you are tired of waiting for Descent
DROOL! A quantum leap from the old Descent series!
The Pyro would look a little better if it had a cockpit...
Even though I had no love for the original Descent, this trailer makes me want to back it !
is this even still happening anymore or is it completely dead?
It is. They even blamed the steam community for the games failure and then delisted to hget rid of the bad reviews. Hell, they banned people from their forums for valling them out on their BS too. They even went as far as to make up a bullshit story about their publisher withholding the game from release to hide the fact that they cut and run with peoples money
Hope they make it on switch. That’s the only advance game system I have at this time
unfortunately this game was canceled. :/
oohgoditsbees darn it
Congratulations, guys. You made my dream come true. The game is simply outstanding.
one of the great things descent was able to do, was implement an amazing soundtrack with immersive 360 degree exploration. Descent 3 should have been a huge hit for the time, and unfortunately it fell short. Hopefully, this game will help redeem the wonderful multiplayer dogfighting and single player experience. I will say though, in this trailer the graphics do look neat, but it's a little dark and surprisingly bland for our technology, hoping the release will be a bit more polished.
+Ragesauce Try it out now on Steam Early Access and let us know. Here is some actual game play
ua-cam.com/video/Yt51LH8YsCY/v-deo.html
+Descendent Studios free to early access? or do i need to purchase to early access?
+Ragesauce Well it is about 50% off what it will be when it is final and even less than that when it is on sale
LOVE IT, I can't wait. So glad they made the funding and so proud to support this
I'm so glad that this is happening. I hope everything turns out awesome.
"Poor material defense!"
Please use Descent 1 soundtrack ! :)
ES UN JUEGO INCREIBLE . FELICITO ALOS CREADORES ME HACE RECORDAR MUCHOO TIEMPO ATAS Y AHORA LO HE VUELTO A JUGAR DESPIES DE AÑOSS MARAVILLOSO
Todavia ay partidas en linea multijugador , yo juego casi diario :) me encanta este juego
Love the graphics
i noticed you implemented ideas similar to the ones i suggested a few years ago to one of your testers/designers.
it looks fabulous guys. you deserve to make some good money, for all of your hard work. :D
Appreciate that - this has been a passion project - we are super excited and hope folks like the game.
I have Descent 1 2, 3 twice, please, will you make the cockpit more artistic like descent 2 and 3, and the game compatible with joysticks and force feedback.
Amazing work fick i can't wait to play this ^_^
Jaaaa, ein neues Descent. Wann kommt es raus?
This makes me so happy to see. LOVED the originals.
It's been a while, old friend.
man--i was just looking around the internet to see how many descent clones had been made because i wanted to make a descent-style game! well more accurately a hellbender-style game. I didn't know you were doing this. I'm super excited! but also, actually, kinda bummed out, because now i have no reason to work on a project like this myself.
Will this game be an online only deployed soldier hater or will we be able to play completely off the grid?
D1 had the best soundtrack ever, if you were lucky enough to have the rebook version.
+wickedsteve or the PSX version :v
+wickedsteve Personally, I thought the D2 redbook soundtrack was better, but that's just my humble opinion.
So much nostalgia
Why is it dated 2019 but says it was posted 8 years ago?
I cried during this whole video. This is beautiful beyond compare!
Have this game support DX12?
yes it does!
Does anyone know if this game is out now?? Here in 2020 :) descent was my first ever game to play and I loved it!!
Will there be an actual singleplayer mode like in the predecessors (27+3 Levels in D1) or more of a multiplayer-training like Quake 3?
Also the trailer only shows wide open spaces, will the game have tight, convuluted mazes like Descent 1?
+Enzo Gaming Yes, there is a single player campaign planned, and all 5 of our maps currently in the game are tight spaces.
will it have VR?
Man this would've been EPIC!
I know there Overload the spiritual successor but the world needs a new Descent game
look forward to chatting with my old friends
How is it
1995? Don't remember this game at all but looking forward to it, looks interesting.
Awesome!! And very much Descenty!! :)
Love this game.
I'm not too keen on how flat they made the Pyro, or on the big cinematic soundtrack (I hope the game itself still has some funky electronic tracks), but consider me hyped as fuck.
If you'd have concentrated on SP a month ago, you'd have shattered your goals by now. The fact that you pushed it, and were concentrating purely on, some arena shooter instead means I - and obviously many others - wasn't interested at all .. and now I'm not interested because the sudden change of heart for SP feels tacked on and half-hearted. I don't want an arena shooter with a singleplayer "tutorial" guiding me into the MP combat, I want what we had 20 years ago; epic, kick-ass, legendary SP gloriousness *with* a MP mode added.
I wish you luck on the rest of the campaign, hopefully you make it and hopefully the game turns out to be good. We'll see in a few year-.
Hopefully there will be good control remapping in this. The hardest thing about getting into the Descent (and Forsaken and any other clones) games is figuring out a good control scheme. I finished Descent 1 and 2 with, IIRC, a Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro and Descent 3 with my current Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold. You need an actual joystick, with twisting action (for barrel rolls) and hat (for strafing) and separate throttle controls, IMHO. Trying to play it on a keyboard like most games of the era was damn near impossible and I would think that a twin stick gamepad would be pretty frustrating, too.
Nicholas Janssen
Yes, you *can* do it, but it's a bit clunky and you lose out on things. You admit that you don't strafe up-down (which I found to be nearly essential) and I see no mention of barrel rolling, which is also very helpful especially to keep your bearings. You also have on/off forward and back instead of an analog slider.
I tried many times to get by with keyboard and/or mouse but never could make peace with those controls. It's just too different from an FPS. The difficulty of the controls is surely why the Descent series isn't more revered. It was certainly way ahead of its time. I remember playing Descent 2 on my 3Dfx card and thinking that graphics could never get better!
+Jeff Kyle I currently playing a descent dx1 rebirth level hard and with mouse and keyboard is damn sweet.. agree with you on the up and down strafe but with mouse to look, wasd for accelerate turning and reverse, q and e key for bank, some fine tuning to sensibility and you are pretty ready to go and destroy some..a lot..bots XD
IMHO playing Descent/Forsaken with a keyboard is like playing a racing game with a keyboard. Yes, it can be done, but it's unfixably clunky and you'll never have the fluid control that you will with a more dedicated input device. What works for an FPS doesn't work for a full 3D movement flight sim.
Similarly, I simply cannot play an FPS with a modern game controller, I need to use a trackball/keyboard combination (I work better with a trackball than a mouse.) There's no one-style-fits-all-games for game controllers.
Well nope but like I said above, I don't have any issue with that, controls are all smooth and in fact descent is a fps, you don't have all keys mapped in a single device, I don't give a... about dropping bomb or looking at my six, with keyboard and mouse I can go fast enough to have tons of fun.. In fact I tried with the same configuration, with a Xbox 360 controller and yes is very unstable, I was unable to find out something usable in-game, so, I said, let try the old dear mouse and keyboard, and it works as it should ;)
X360 controller would suck for Descent. Something like the Saitek Cyborg with twistable joystick and hat and analog throttle slider gives full access to all controls including strafe in all four directions and analog control of forward and reverse. Good luck getting control of all of those on any other input device! It's like a dance instead of constantly fighting the controls or just giving up on things like vertical strafing, like many end up doing.
i think geocore was a better successor for descent. i wish that guy could win the powerball and get rich and afford to finish it.
any1 know when or roughly when early release is sposed 2 end and this game actually comes out?
Well we have Co-op coming out this week, and we put up a blog with our road map, so go to www.descentunderground for your answer
Oh, and when it leaves early access the price will be higher than it is now. :)
Descendent Studios And designs will be different, options shown in these short videos won't exist, and yep prices will be double.
Well this is all well and good but im just interested in the solo Campaign. to be honest, i have no idea why developers put games in early access for soooo long. no beta ive known lasts ova a year!
Many game company "beta" releases are just marketing tools nowadays. Those games were often in development for multiple years before we even hear about them. If you look at Bethesda's discussion of Elder Scrolls VI, for instance, they're VERY careful to talk about it being far in the future even though it's already in development.
Descendent (and some other indies) are actually taking fans along for the entire development cycle. That means that everyone gets to see the hiccups and bugs (and delays) that are usually hidden behind closed doors.
This is so great!!!
Thanks! You can play the Early Access version now at descendentstudios.com
yeah, I just bought it! 😃
Thank you! We're continuing to add more stuff and working on the single-player campaign.
Anyone know the song?

+Descendent Studios Great news! Thanks for the reply. The bots and their different personalities is really what made Descent Descent, besides the frantic corridor battles. Looking forward to it!

they probably saw that star citizen and elite: dangerous were getting popular and thought, maybe this is time to make a new awesome game, I hope it will be amazing :D

Deathmonkey7 That would make sense then, it's good that they are reviving an old game!
Deathmonkey7 I don't know if that is good or bad...them working on a new game rising more money when SC isn't even completed yet.
