Dementus is a better written villain than Immortan Joe.
Fury Road relies on the world that surrounds Immortan to inform us as to why we should hate him. Granted, it is the world Joe has created, but it’s already established by the time Furiosa and Fury Road begin. There’s nothing that shows us why any of these people would follow a wheezing, crippled, polyp covered man to the point of suicidal zealotry.
Dementus, on the other hand, is charismatic, mingling with his men, giving speeches to the poor and downtrodden. He’s also pretty smart tactically, using smoke and mirrors to get the upper hand on his enemies.
Something else we get from Dementus that is lacking in Joe, is a rationale for why the character is the way he is. While it may be extreme, I kind of understand why Dementus is a brutal bastard. With Joe, people have to rely on reading comic books to get an idea of how this man turned into a monster.
Dementus is simply a more fleshed out character than Joe.

However when dementus suddenly gets gastown and bullet farm it turns out he can’t rule and is a terrible leader
Absolutely! I would never argue how terrible he is at managing and leading his people. He sucks.
Dementus is a raid captain, brilliant at tracking, attacking, and pillaging, but not an organizational mastermind.
“I’m like a dog chasing cars, I wouldn’t know what to do with one if I caught it”.
Most "Conquerer's" make terrible politicians.
Pretty sure he was in control a lot of the time. The Octoboss going rogue was probably his idea, the riots at Gastown were probably faked, his plan to get all three was only foiled because Furiosa got back to the citadel otherwise he would be ruler of the wastelands
As said, Immortan Joe WAS his environment. His personality was shown by every single facet of his organization.
Very well said. You really don't need any more context than.
@@ajzmaI agree with this. With him being such an omnipotent leader, his entire fortress is a reflection of him. We aren't spoonfed info on him but we don't need to be
Dementus is my favorite character now. Only behind the kid with the metal boomerang.
That's one way to take it, but that's a reach. Joe did create the world around him, but that just begs the question as to how, and I don't mean that the answer needs to be explicitly given. You can pepper info about a character organically through the story. If we had been given an imposing and intelligent man who you could buy into having made the world you say describes him, that would be one thing. Take into account, however, what we're given the first time we meet Joe in Fury Road: an ailing, crippled, polyp-covered man. And then the audience is expected to just take it on faith that this guy could achieve this vast empire? That's just bad writing.
@@greatwhiteapereviews It's not bad writing. You think power only comes from physical force? By the events in Fury Road, Immortan is an aging king, but the point is that he has curated such a devout following and such an omnipotent rule that it doesn't matter.
The story starts where it starts. It's not wrong to start the story in a place that leaves YOU wanting backstory. That lack of backstory really doesn't leave us lacking for information on Immortan unless you pay like ZERO attention to the whole film.
Funny you say this, because the Furiosa movie made Immortan Joe 100x more badass than he already was. Guy was ruthless and evil, but also absolutely fearless.
While I won’t argue the inherent evil of roping a child into a breeding harem, I don’t recall much else. Again, the evil and godlike persona were already there at the beginning of the movie.
I havent seen the movie, did the guy they got for the role or Immortan Joe do a good job? I know the previous actor unfortunately died and he was incredible in Fury Road
@@armintor2826 he was an epic version of Joe in his prime: clever, charismatic and menacing at the same time
@@fel_zharostI’ve seen people compare him to Darth Vader and that’s kinda the vibe I get
@@ItsButterBean1020 except I believe he was a much more pleasant guy to his subordinates, from the movie you get the idea of why everyone was so loyal to him and why his partnership with People Eater and Bullet Farmer was fruitful and mutually beneficial
Dementus, like Lord Humungus and Toecutter before him, was a charismatic mad dog. They were all raiders at heart and could only take from other people. Any logistic and large scale organizational capacity fell apart as each man was only good at waging war and little else. They were incapable of rebuilding civilization, but very good at taking from those who did try to rebuild it.
Immortan Joe and Aunty Entity are unique in the Mad Max universe as they're the only warlords who managed to actually build and keep something resembling the civilization that was lost.
Well, actually......this makes a ton of sense. Well said.
Immortal Joe’s use of water regulation and distribution is severely lacking … 😦
Which is funny, because Joe was a military man and Toecutter was a former academic. Makes me wonder what Dementus did before the apocalypse.
@@kikrinman1450What's ironic about that is that the actor who played toecutter returned to play Joe. It's the same guy
@@kikrinman1450 isn't it obvious? He was a doctor XD

This is Dementus in a nutshell. He’s not a ruler he’s a marauder.
Dementus is more of a comedic villain, Immorten Joe is just brutal and evil as f***.
I think we see more brutality from Dementus. Torturing Furiosa’s mom, the killing of other gang leaders via bike quartering, how he killed Praetorian Jack.
Dementus is forgettable even as a one-,off .⁷

@@MaximusR93 Good point.
@@MaximusR93 Nothing takes the cherry on top like the rape and torture of Miss Giddy ... They even cut it out because they thought it was too heavy.
I think Immortan Joe was the better villain, primarily BECAUSE of the ambiguity of his past which made him all the more mythical and intimidating for it. But Dementus was the better CHARACTER and a lot of people missed the parallel between him and Max. He was essentially an allegory for what Max could have become if the wrong choices had been made along the way.
I agree with this.
Like how the villain in How To Train Your Dragon 3 was what Hiccup would have become, had he killed the Night Fury.
Immortan Joe kind of reminds me of apocalyptic Robert Baratheon where he used to be an absolute demon in his youth but has been on a steady decline since his glory days and ruined by distractions.
I said the same thing!
I can kinda see that. Robert could've been a Good king if Lyanna had been forced to marry him. But maybe he was destined to drink and whore his life away.
We know he was a great warrior and a decent general even. Have you read the books? Before taking the throne, before Lyanna's death, he WAS a good leader. Not great. But good enough so that Jon Aryn could rule well in his name and avoided war of five kings.
Robert gets a bad rap IMO. The man that was to be king died with Lyanna but there's a good chance he would've turned into that person no matter what.
He seems the type that would've taken her for granted and would've skull-humped service wenches three at a time even if his queen were a 'hauntingly beautiful' but slightly aged 40/yr old mother of four Lyanna. (There'd been a fifth; Rickon. He died as an infant and she - Lyanna - was never the same again).
So despite having a gorgeous graceful, witty, enchanting, outspoken, northern wolf queen, he fucked painted whores. Bc she kisses his kids goodnight with that mouth. You don't do such things to a queen nor a lady.
Like many of us, Robert sees what has passed, what's gone forever, through rose colored glasses. Everyday the past looks a little brighter and the future and little dimmer.
And then someone would kill him. Maybe magically thru skin changing into a boar and mauling his fart ass fat ass
Kind of reminds me of my dad
Nah, other way around. Dementus is Robert Baratheon, an alpha male who is good at killing but bad at ruling and is in a steady decline. Immortal Joe is Tywin, a gifted strategist who is able to create order out of chaos through means of focused cruelty.

Immortan Joe is a great example of "Show, don't tell". His environment, his intro, his decisions make it crystal clear on what kind of character he is.
I’ve heard.
The fact that the villain’s name is “Immortan Joe” makes him a better villain right then and there.
Dementus is not a better villain than Immortan Joe.
Dementus is everything that’s said in this video but Joe was a completely different person when he was young. He supposedly led the attack on the Citadel and took it from the one who was holding it. And even though he’s weak and sick now. He still holds control by convincing his followers he is a Divine Figure/God.
Overall they’re both amazing characters and great villains.
In Fury Road, Immortan Joe was one of my all time favourite Villains.
I’m not sure I follow. It seems like you’re using EU content along with the pre-established world to explain why Joe is a good villain. The point of the video was to show that these things are insufficient and create a poorly fleshed-out character when you take Fury Road on its own merits.
"I am your redeemer"
"It is by my hand that you arise"
@@greatwhiteapereviews The reason why I say this. Joe is old and sick and he is considered a divine figure. That is still tactics in a different way, he did what he did to hold on to control. Joe is also much more calm and relaxed vs Dementus who is loud and reckless. Joe knows how to run things as well vs Dementus who ran Gastown and the Bullet Farm into the ground in Furiosa. You might say his goal was to take the Citadel, that shows how reckless he is and does not care about anything he achieved thus far.
You also mentioned Dementus is tactical.
Joe took the citadel away from the one who held it and he led the attack.
Dementus could not do that.
Yeah and Dementus lost control of his people too
Agreed on all accounts but personally I think Dementus was completely overplayed and overhyped. Yes I support the fact that was a main selling point of was part of the movie's marketing drive. Hemsworth gave a descent performance from his end but there was only so much he could it with. For me it was a post apocalyptic female centric Conan with little pay off can't help but think it would've benefitted more from being a mini-series via Stars Network. Given it's episodic format and would've been less of a slog for audiences if broken down. I think the future for the franchise for cost, production and reception's and even survival's sake is best adopted in this format. In fact, I think a Mad Max OG mini-series called Mad Max - Maintain Right would be good with a young Aussie/Kiwi Mel look alike in the role. With a younger Max and Goose a pair of young tear aways being drafted Foreign Legion/ National Service style to serve in the MFP 10 years earlier. A kind of police procedural action drama with Max meeting his wife and it wrapping up with his kid being born and full of hope with the audience already knowing what's to come. It makes it all the more heartbreaking.
I love Dementus as a human being more, however I do feel like a strong point of the movie was his failure as a villain compared to Joe. Him and Humongous from Road Warrior could not establish the same following as Immortan Joe and both failed to be rulers of The Wasteland.
They need to give Hemsworth more varied roles like this. He played a great villain.
No question Dementus was NOT better than Immortan Joe.

George Miller did put out a comic book series that explains most of the back stories of the characters in Fury Road. If I remember correctly, Immortal Joe was a sergeant trying to help survivors until the survivors turn on his group and then he learned to save people he was gonna have to control them
Nah Dr Dementus is a less intimidating villain because he's an open book. The reason Joe is intimidating is because just like darth vader he is mysterious
Now let’s see a movie with the real Mad Max in it.
George Miller recently said in an interview that he doesn’t have any stories where Mad Max is old, so no Mel Gibson. That freaking sucks.
@@greatwhiteapereviews yeah, that’s supremely disappointing.
Would love that tbh. Mad Max - Exodus. You could explain that Hardy's Max was one of many pretenders who actually believed themselves to be him absorbing the legend into thier minds. Max comes out of Ths Wasteland thought to be lost to time and tales. He wears a crude homemade the badge of Maintan Right again of the MFP deputising those who would follow him to finally tame and settle The Wastelands so that some new form of civilisation can begin.
That's why this movie sucked ass Lol
@@greatwhiteapereviews because that sounds boring as shit, the real mad max is whoever George decides it is
To me, Immortan Joe was purposely left vague to hold the mystique of the aging yet still dangerous War Lord, while Dementus was to play the part of the zealous upstart.
In the end though, as they faced off against one another, both lost, as they were ultimately decimated by the force of nature that was Furiosa.
A subtle and beautifully crafted modern day fable, interwoven within the carnage, blood and gore of a post apocalyptic action film. 🤌🏼 4.9/5 ☆
Furiosa, as her movie shows us, single-handedly defeated Dementus like a boss. Little over the top in my opinion granted she had extreme motives. Immortan Joes demise in the other hand in Fury Road, was a result of Max Rockatansky joining forces with Furiosa. It seems she has good instincts in which men she trusts despite the entire world of men that constantly destroy her life. I’m honestly surprised that Furiosa doesn’t hate all men on sight and find them undesirable sexually given her unfortunate experiences since a young child. But that’s probably thinking about it too deeply🤷🏻♂️I’m rambling 😂
@@la213blancoyoure weird for making it sexual
Both are insane warlords, but Dementus is a nihilist, whereas Immortan Joe believes in something (his legacy). My favorite scene is when Dementus (The Red), attempts to use Communism to turn Immortan Joe's peons against him, and very quickly learns that maintaining power using religion is a much stronger spell over people than resentment.
I wouldn’t call religion per se a spell, but I see your point.
That dick measuring contest between the two extremely charismatic warlords was also my favorite scene.
Dementus: Hope, Trash. There is no HOPE!!!
The problem with Furiosa is all the feminist bs:
1. She comes from paradise in hell. Paradise is ruled by women, of course. I’ve seen villages ruled by matriarchy in real life. They’re far, far away from being paradise!
2. She is a Mary Sue. She’s so frail and skinny, and yet, she destroys her enemies, who are twice her size btw.
3. If she refused Dementus’ tutelage, how the hell did she learn to fight and shoot and do all of the amazing things she did?
Just real quick, yes she’s written to be the ultimate baddass woman in the world of mad max (which is over the top at times in this movie but not completely unrealistic), however we do see her trusting two men and two men alone in the wastelands:Praetorian Jack and Max Rockatansky aka Mad Max aka Road Warrior. Only God knows why, because given Furiosa’s hailing from an all female society (they can’t breed with each other so there has to be some men there) and her unfortunate experiences with men who constantly destroy her life for their selfish gains really begs the question…why isn’t Furiosa a misandrist? It would actually make sense seeing how she is only uses men for survival purposes further her agenda. Jack likely had a romance with her and she even wanted to bring him back to paradise. She tolerated Max and trusted him and in the end Max saved her life and gave her a better future by letting her rule the citadels after Immortan Joe’s slaying.
Conclusion: she’s clearly…she not a feminist. Not even written by feminist writers. She just has plot armor, and leading female blockbusters (especially sequels) have a history of bombing in the box office despite the feminine idealism in Hollywood thinking diversity in film is necessary 👍🏻
Furiosa, and fury road, are absolutely feminie power movies. And they are some of the best ive ever seen. Theyre in a tier with aliens and terminator. Miller has always, throughout the series, looked objectively at both masculine and feminine natures, without attacking either. There is some archetypal mythology going on in these films.
Furiosa was absolutely not a mary she. She got a full on heroes journey. I found that her character arc was remarkably similar to conans.
Ive grown up with the max films. They were my favorite film franchise before fury road came out, and neither that movie nor furiosa changed my opinion. I am definitely against modern wokage nonsense. Road Warrior is still my favorite.
This is the first film series i have ever seen succesfully pass the torch, not only to a new generation, but to the other gender. You want mad max still? "Imperator" is the highest rank you can have in joes civilization, it is the "max"imum status you can achieve. Fury=angry=mad. So imperator furiosa is a just a version of mad max. The series aint called "Mr Rockatansky."
1. Matriachy is ironically seen in pacific islands thriving.
2. This is the whole skinny MMA fighter vs big body builder debate. Muscles need lots of energy+oxygen. Being big is not always a plus a in combat.
3. Jack taught her.
Finally, a good movie Jesus it’s about time
Dementus gave up to much in the trade to Immortan Joe, he gave up his ministry of health and though he was far ahead of the others in military tactics, strategically he was not very good. Joe was better at the long game.
Nah Immortan Joe in Fury road is amazing, you instantly understand how he had his empire.
Lol, no.
Fury road just didn't spoon feed you his backstory, and made the audience piece his means and motivations together for themselves.
So why do the war boys follow him?
@@greatwhiteapereviews because he's running a death cult of personality. They view him as their God-king. he provides them with food, water ( and despite its rudimentary nature) medical treatment, as well as a sense of "immortally" as long as they appease his will. He offers a them a better life by living in the citadel, and something to die for. Why wouldn't they follow him?

@@axt2 those are concepts the film gives you. The point is how does he maintain it considering his state. He wasn’t doing that much better in Furiosa. You basically have to ignore the character himself and instead look at everything else.
The entire imperium of man from 40K would like a word
Bird.
Dementus is an extremely compelling villain because he's almost this self-fulfilling prophecy of a character. He believes the world to be cruel and unforgiving and through his actions and motivations, perpetuates a cruel and unforgiving world.
He shows up to the citadel preaching that he knows a better way, that he would bring equality to the wasteland. When he realizes he can never hope to fully dismantle this seat of power that Joe has made for himself, he instead conforms and just tries to squirm and wiggle his way into Joe's hierarchy to try and get a piece of that power. In essence, he gives up. He has no idea what to do with his ownership of Gastown once he rules it because it's not the type of power he's used to wielding. And this is why furiosa becomes this symbol for him to exact his wrath upon. Despite his dreams and his hopes, the wasteland and Joe's empire has chewed him up and spat him out. So he seeks to do the same to Furiosa and praetor jack, even though he doesn't even remember that Furiosa is the little girl whom he tormented long ago. In the end of the film, he's entirely unapologetic and almost revels in Furiosa's attempts to break him. The wasteland and Joe broke him, but he would never admit it, and he would never allow anyone to think otherwise, because that would mean he truly lost.
Immortan joe had a cool aesthetic , i never thought he was some great villian

Dementus definitely is not a better villain or character than Immortan Joe. Immortan Joe is very tactical in his control, he made himself out to be a divine deity and following him met you will enter the gates of valhalla. Fury road was a non stop roller coaster ride to me the best in the Mad Max series, more shock and awe. It didn't give much back story but it really didn't. We all know its post apocalypse time period, things are based on survival and having a leader that will provide you with the basic necessities while giving you something to believe in. Immortan Joe does just that, a fake prophet but he never loses control of his people like Dementus did, he was more cunning and tactical than Dementus.
chris s best role yet
I just love that Gimli donated his nose to Chris Hemsworth to play Dementus
but imortan was not much of a villain cos he was a dictator
He literally enslaved women and had young boys offing themselves in his name. He was a villain, ur just a dimwit
Villain and dictator often coincide. In this specific film however Dementus is the main antagonist, Immortan Joe is a key figure for the plot and connection to Fury Road. It’s just too bad we don’t get to see Immortan Joe’s rise to power and whatever glory days he must have had and the climb to power he must have had prior to being a Warlord ruling with absolute control amongst his people
The world building of this franchise is second to none.
This is why Furiosa is superior to Fury Road. More fleshed characters, high stakes for the protagonist, a desire, a fear, etc etc… Great film!
Hes a mirror of the world he promises everything takes everything and leaves nothing and blames it all on everone else
Why did they give him that stupid prosthetic nose? It’s just distracting wtf
The fact this video needed to be made shows how great both these characters are.
I mean if you read the prequel comics you'd see he was an awesome leader and wasn't crippled when he was young at all he was a force like no other physically and mentality a true warlord and you see why he got the name Imortan.
That’s part of the problem, though, isn’t it? I’m not sold that most people read those comics. So, we’re left with the outcome of greatness rather than seeing greatness.
@@greatwhiteapereviewsTHIS!! Like my daughters and wife arent going to read into the lore much like most of the audience. They only know what is shown to them…
I glad to see chris stretching acting muscles
Ngl it's also more on the way both movies went. Mad Max was about the survival of Max and the group, while Furiosa was actually centered on showing how Furiosa, and subsequently Dementus, and their lives.
Joe was more on a force of nature, most of the time were the main characters running from him, while Dementus was always Furiosa's enemy, she hated him more than Immortan Joe for what he did to him, and simply used Joe to take out Dementus's forces, even when Dementus initially saves her during the first battle in the citadel.
Hope we get the immortan joe comic made into a movie or show
I can get behind that.
No one will EVER be as cool as " the HUMUNGOUS" "the HUMONGOUS rules the wasteland" period !!!!, "just walk away" 👍 xx
Immortan Joe's aging demigod status is important for Nux shaking the suicidal religion of the war boys off - the most dynamic character and maybe even the moral crux of Fury Road's entire story. Dismissing Immortan Joe as a lesser villain because his world was solidified at the start of the movie just shows that you didn't understand what was being shown.
That nose is so distracting. They definitely shouldn’t have used that prosthetic for the movie. Looks like garbage
Dementus is not only worse than Immortal Joe. It is bad, as a Villain. Maybe not badly written, but it's simply annoying watching dialogues that looks like a Marvel Film.
he behaves like a thor, but it's only a human. they would silence him easily in real life
Dementus is the portrait of actual leaders. They manipulate and are just marauders.
100% agree. I was a lot more annoyed than charmed by his character and he feels very out of place in the Mad Max universe to me
However how flawed his system was, Immortan Joe actually had a civilization, a cult like religion with a horde of followers and the most precious resource at his disposal: water. This post is awfully one sided.

Imo the best part about Dementus is his interest in Furiosa, taking care of her, saving her from the War Boys, trying to avoid selling her away to Joe, and not to mention he seemed genuinely happy to see her again despite her trying to kill him. I was honestly expecting him to end up in some sort of redemption arc for what he did to her mother, but maybe that’s a bit too much to ask.
Seen Fury road yesterday. My humble opinion is that Furiosa is a much better movie, well written characters and logic. One of the best action movies lately.
The fact that all his war boys will die for him no questions asked is what a real villain looks like his ability to manipulate people into his way of thinking is what makes him so menacing also his lack of words makes him scarier you don't really know what's going on up in that man's head but with dimentus he thinks out loud so you know what to expect
Love that Immortan Joe was the original Toe cutter RIP
God bless him.
Nice reaction video! The characters are called Champions, not Legends. And the moves they do in the videos represent their abilities in the game. Glad to see new people enjoying League content.
Dementus is honestly the dopest name I’ve ever heard. Love these Mad Max world of names. I also always love mentioning Max Rockatanksy whenever possible because most people only know him by “Mad Max”, which isn’t his actual name it’s just the movie titles. However “Road Warrior” is a nickname given by those who crossed his path
Dementus is a discount The Humungus. Humangus could also give speeches and had less technology to work with. Immortan Joe is the Mad Max Equivalent to Darth Vader. (he speaks with his actions) Very focused on dominating everything but maybe his forces might be spread thin due to too much ambition.
I wouldn’t say Joe or Dementus is better because their narrative purpose is just so fundamentally different that evaluating one over the other is evaluating the type of story one is telling over the other.
Joe exists purely to be an unstoppable force, to heighten the tension and make the odds the heroes are against feel impossible by being a terrifying presence. Dementus on the other hand is meant to set Furiosa down a path where she loses everything and act as an example of what awaits you at the end of that path. He has to be more fleshed out by necessity to be a proper warning to the audience and Furiosa.
One is a cold Tyrant, the other is a charismatic warlord.
Dimentus' end made me think he went crazy from ultra-violence and eating human flesh.
I just don't know what to say about this unless it's AI with a well done voice script
I just kinda wish they would do something a little different than just recreating the chase sequence from Road Warrior (again).
They did a really good job with the character of Dementus. He stole every scene he was in.
Anna is a good actress, it’s just hard (for me) to see her as a young version of Charlize. Also, ever since Split, Anna has been typecast. Wish Hollywood would offer her a role as something other than “girlboss fights patriarchy”.
She was amazing in VVitch. Thank you Eggers for allowing her to try something different and let her talent shine.
I don't even know if I'm going to bother watching this new movie the trailer for it makes it look exactly like the last movie
It’s better, story-wise, than Fury Road.
Fury Road was totally plot-driven, while Furiosa is character-driven. This approach results in a more fleshed-out world. In Furiosa, we get more of an understanding of why this world and its people are the way they are.
Furiosa is as good of a prequel as Terminator 2 is a sequel. They both make the movie that came before them better because of their world-building and character development.
Hard disagree. Dementus works well as a minor antagonist but he lacks the discipline and vision to be a serious threat. He's like a less competent Joker, while Joe is like an even more competent Bane
Strange comparison considering Bane was also a physical threat. Joe pretty much drove around and yelled a lot.
@greatwhiteapereviews the joe we see in Fury Road is an old man long past his prime who is still able to drive and shoot and command his men. Joe in his prime as shown in the comics was a master strategist and a melee fighter to be reckoned with. Dementus is just a boilerplate schizo nutjob who can't see further than two steps in front of his face, which is why his plans all fail and he gets his ass handed to him
Dementus works better as a villain because the story he is in is furiosas story, and dementus actively causes furiosa to suffer, while joe is her enemy by default of her own decisions in fury road.
Lacks discipline? His chiseled physique says otherwise. Joe on the other hand who’s clearly out of shape shows who lacks discipline. 😅
Dementus is what the joker said he was. He’s a dog chasing cars but wouldn’t know what to do with one if he caught one
There were animated lore videos accompanying fury roads release featuring joes backstory
We also need to take it to account that immortan joe was played by the same guy that played toe cutter in the first mad max movie, thus linking fury road and the original as well as giving the more hardcore fans a fun throwback villain. Like maybe immortan Is toe cutter. And tow cutter did in fact Not die at the end of the original mad max.
At first I thought he is playing the younger version of Joe.
Then they face to face.
Seeing/Knowing everything about a villain doesn't make him a better villain.
It just makes him another layered antagonist.
You don't need any of that stuff. He is an evil king whose influence over a kingdom is to the point of them ignoring his clear health deficiency and keeping his reign continuous. People are willing to die just to be looked at by him. His eyes and ears are everywhere. His reach is seemingly limitless. His word carries weight to those around him. The world moves FOR him. That's a great villain.
His poor state just amplifies that status, because it just shows that no one is seen as on his level. It makes the audience question who he is and what has he done, because he is a god in that world.
Not sure I agree. He lost his wives and there were people clearly prepared to fight this apparent God. I feel as though you’ve put this character on a pedestal that doesn’t exist, much like the movie conveyed.
Immortan Joe gave me nightmares in 2015 and even more in 2024!
Fury Road is a better escapism blockbuster. Thebtruth is that Miller should have done Furiosa with 50-80 milions and should have forced production to market it as a thriller-revenge movie without Mad Mad connection. Consumers deserve better focus in their expectations
My fav line to say to people, well, yell at people: "MEDIOCRE!"
That was a funny scene. The double take Joe does when Nux comes off the rig is priceless.
Dementus was a charismatic leader, but Joe was more than that. Joe created a religion and made himself its Messiah. That's why they followed and did everything he asked without question and hesitation.
Immortan Joe : The theocratic monarch and ruler.
Dementus : The manipulative ambitious mob boss.
I felt that in this last one, they should have focused more on the tribal leaders than the defiant maverick Furiosa. Max has always been a default character in his own stories, if they treated her the same way, it could have been a great passing of the torch
Good movie & very much a part of the Mad Max mythos. Its not fair it's suffering in the box-office. Deserves more love.
Agreed. I genuinely thought this was an overall better film than Fury Road.
@@greatwhiteapereviews Not sure I'd go that far. On par, certainly.
@@MedievalFolkDance I'm aware I'm in the minority on this.
@@greatwhiteapereviews It's give & take on the two. I can see your reasons. There was a bit more action to Fury Road I felt. This was more story driven. Not that thats a bad thing either. Just a touch more adrenalin & it would've gotten there for me.
@@MedievalFolkDancemad respect to furiosa for being emotionally dark and brutal and hard to stomach at times. Havent seen that in theae films since road warrior.
Dementus is Vic from A Boy and His Dog. Who goes mad when his dog finally dies.
Joe felt like an established pillar while Dementus felt like the guy who thinks he is the life of the party until he ruins said party.
Dementus is more of a fleshed out villain but Joe has a more threatening look
One of those thing of how charicters are presented on screen versus how they're built up in alterntate reading material.
Dementus was peak villian. Best i have seen in literal decades.
He Is my favorite mad max villain
Dementus represents youth while Immortan represents the old guard - sometimes a legend can outlive the person it's made after and zealotry as well...not to mention that his war boys do get a semblance of security under Immortan's rule...in a wasteland so brutal, a place to sleep and eat is enough to die for.
Didn't believe dementus, kept seeing a red headed thor
@@imranhosein2706 bummer.
