I wish this take had been done after the Jon Ross deal bc I really want to hear your take on Walker, Ranger, etc. now that they have even more long/swing relief depth.
This trade I have no qualms with. Luzardo is lefty, young, talented, and Caleb Cotham can develop this kid even further. And you gave up prospects not named Painter, Miller, or Crawford.
Ruben's comment about players getting better is point on. Everyone but Harper - Schwarber needs to improve their approach. Look at what Kyle did from 23-24
We knew this would happen and we signed up for it, anyway. About $50 million per year will fall off each of the next 3 years, though, so hopefully some rooks will start working out for us and things will get under control and sustainable. I think Ranger and Kerkering are two keys to this season, and Stott and Sanchez after that. They are in the positions to make or break the season and define the future. After this year, they will have Schwarb, JT and Ranger FAs.
I still believe Dave will be still active in the trade market for a center fielder and it’ll be a 1yr bullpen arm. Marsh is a good player but not an everyday player. If we trade for a above average cf and grab a bullpen arm we will be set.
Likely due to his plate discipline metrics. He’s got a solid approach and doesn’t strike out a ton. Marsh has really hurt himself with the 30%+ SO rate
@@christopherodonnell71 What you say is no doubt true. I have no doubt that they made this signing to address the perception that chase killed last year's team. It may have a bit of validity, but let's compare Kepler and Marsh for a minute. First off, if you are planning to move marsh to center, you are harming your defense in two positions, although not a ton. Marsh is only making a million bucks. Kepler is making $10.1 with a 110% tax which is really $21mil and 10 slots in the draft. Both of these things could weaken more positions. Marsh: 135 G, .249/.328/.419, 16 HR, 60 RBI,19 SB, 108 wRC+, 32.4 K%, 10.5 BB% .348 BABIP dWAR 0.5 Age 27 Kepler: 105 G. .253/.302/.380, 8 HR, 42 RBI,1 SB, 94 wRC+, 20.1 K%, 5.5 BB% .300 BABIP dWAR -0.7 Age: 32 Both of these are below career average years, last year. Marsh walks twice as much, steals bases, hits .50 better when he does put it in play, is a better leftfielder and hits more HRs. So chase is literally the only category that Kepler wins. TO me it's just not worth it, whether you put MArsh in center or bench him. Also Kepler isn't a leftfielder. I'm assuming since they are already spending too much that they will go with what they have. So that probably means Marsh and Kepler against righties, Wilson and Rojas against lefties. I don't have much problem with it, I just don't think Kepler is worth the money, nor does he improve the team. Cal Stephenson may be his equal. We'll see. Regardless, I hope I'm totally wrong and Kepler has an MVP season. Really love the Luzardo trade, that will absolutely improve the team a lot.
I can understand Dombrowski doesn't wanna go over the third luxury tax. But for the right players I would , go get Tanner Scott for the bullpen and call it an offseason. Then see what happens for the rest of the year , Go big for Vlad Jr or Kyle Tucker then hopefully Justin Crawford is ready for next year
Idk, I feel like Kepler is Whit Merrifield/Austin Hays 2.0. I’m not a huge fan of giving up a top 100 and Phillies #4 prospect for Luzardo. It’s rare we ever have any good prospects so to give one up is not great. Why is Dombrowski not going after one of these big impact players? We are a top market and have the money or just do deferred like LA? I still think we move Harper back to the OF and sign Alonso at 1B 🤷🏻♂️
Phillies OFF SEASON AND DUMBROWSKI ARE COMPLETE JOKE.....Another pitcher Dumbo just grabs and hopes they work out.....They've done JACK SHIT TO IMPROVE THIS LINE UP......And if Schwarber Leadoff in 2025 this teams DONE
@@ryancampbell1847the issue with Turner is he quit trying to steal after his hammy strain. Dude has all the speed in the world but refuses to use it. I expect a bounce back year for Stott and it would be very interesting to see him and Turner at 1-2. Problem is where do you put KS- he sees lots of pitches but also strikes out a ton. Quite the pickle for DD
Again what does this do? U have to hit and the same hitters are here. I dont want to hear at deadline cause DD has never done shit at deadline to help hitting. Remember 2010 with the pitching staff they had. Put Ranger in pen. He cant start cause he falls apart. Funny Jim said no way they bringing back same team but now he says there got to win eith players here. Dude come on. Jesus i hear excuses now. This is the 4th year with same God damn hitters. DD has no creative ways anymore.

Signing Sasaki would be nice but I don't think he wants to come to Philly since we boo our players.
@@stevengarrison1019 He's been linked to the Dodgers or Padres. I don't see him heading east.

You can add Bohm to this list. He actually has the best plate discipline metrics on the team
Pretty cool to see the Phills finding Jesus right at Christmas.
But this Jesus doesn't save.
Then today, they picked up Joe Ross....another guy that can start if needed and can pitch out of the bullpen. This could signal a Ranger trade
Luzardo is a good pickup.
Bring back. Hoffman
33:00 Ruben was right
Okay Ruben, thank you for admitting it was a mistake to trade Lee. I will retire the ruin tomorrow Jr moniker. I can heal and move on.
Taking a chance on injury plagued players. Might work out great...might backfire.
Yeah really like the deal. Low risk. He has 2 years of control for lower dollars. Less pressure on him to perform. Miami he had to be the man.
Too many players are being overpaid.
SS is the biggest overpay

They must add to bullpen, but maybe they plug Painter in the pen?
Could also use a righthanded bat still!
I’d wager Ross will move to the pen once painter gets called up in July
am i just having deja vu, but didn't someone on the pod recently tell a Rickey story about John 3:16? I gotta hear that again I died.
Who isn't a Yaz fan?
No 👎
Kepler = Austin Hays
He's a hair better, but not enough..
Why spend 10mil on a guy who is basically Marsh? Except Marsh isnt a 32 year old career .237 hitter.

He's not even CLOSE to Crochet..
Westin Wilson 😅 thats why you're out of baseball Rube..
Delusional exactly. Cant trust this team at all they faded big time LY and choked in 23

Absolutely in love with us getting Jesus. He will be a killer.
No, he won't , he is 1, not American, and 2 will be hurt..

Ownership is not going way past the 3rd luxury tax threshold at 301M for next year - that’s your answer. No Alanso unfortunately for you
