    1- Turn off dynamic stability Control
    2- Go back on the track and do some good AWD drifting !

    • @drivingsports
      @drivingsports  8 років тому +1

      +Mohamed Messily As noted prior: YOU CAN NOT TURN OFF STABILITY CONTROL on the XV Crosstrek (or most modern cars for that matter.) You can disable Traction Control, but that won't allow drifting. Stability control is always on.

      +Driving Sports TV Ahhh but you can pull the fuse in the bottom right ;) it'll disable traction control, ABS, and cruise control. The car completely changes and oversteers like an absolute beast. That might defeat the point of this test though...

    • @SteedDigital1
      @SteedDigital1 8 років тому +8

      +Andy S Jr. This was my thought. first I understand why they wouldn't say or do this from a liability stand point. but from an actually testing point of view they really should have pulled the fuse, and let the pro drive it to bring out all its potential. what a waste of time this whole video was.

    should put the rally driver in the xv

    • @drivingsports
      @drivingsports  9 років тому +15

      That is a rally driver in the XV. Paul Eklund is a regional champion rallyist, and even tried out for the SWRT many years ago. He's good. The car is limiting what he can do.

    • @jimcrants7517
      @jimcrants7517 7 років тому

      Thanks for that info. I had the same thought as FUreplygirl. Even thinking the driver was just some schmo, though, I thought the Crosstrek did pretty well for a car with half the horsepower as its competitor and a lot of tech designed to keep it from driving like a rally car.

    It is impossible to disable stability control on the new Crosstrek (without pulling fuses). It's not that wanted to keep it on, he was forced to.

      you just have to pull a fuse, it disables hill assist, abs, and stability control

  • @TravisTerrell

    This is 100% due to drivers. I'd love to see the drivers swap cars. He would've absolutely won, even in the Crosstrek. On a true offroad track, the Crosstrek kills, but unfortunately, it is massively aenemic on power. It's an absolute shame that-EVEN 5 YEARS LATER-Subaru refuses to put an engine with decent power into a car with the offroad sensibility of the Crosstrek. It would sell like hotcakes.
    150hp BARELY cuts it in the standard Impreza. Expecting the same engine to power the much heavier Crosstrek is a pipe dream. PLEASE, Subaru, put a decent engine into the Crosstrek! PLEASE!

    • @RKmndo
      @RKmndo 2 роки тому

      A manual Crosstrek with the VDC fuse pulled should be decent for this stuff. Intake spacers, exhaust, high-flow airfilter, and/or even an AVO turbo could push the 2.slo over 200HP, which might be adequate for giving the 3200lb Crosstrek a sporting feel.

    Well done! A good comparison between the two cars with two suitably trained and talented drivers. A fully sorted out rally car will always end up superseding a road car in these conditions. The point of the video and what was interesting was how well the standard XV stands up to this type of treatment which is more akin to real life driving situations rather than rock-hopping that is often shown as off road ability (other videos have also demonstrated the great abilities of the XV in these type of situations).
    This video shows that the XV's driver aids and great build qualities will assist drivers who want to drive effectively and efficiently along gravel roads in real life situations. Thanks for uploading and sharing the video!!

      Chase Rabideau Nope. Most cars will report traction control disabled, when in fact it's just one stage that has been disabled. Try sliding the car, you won't be able to.

    This particular rally car is a JDM model, where the STI was running an EJ207 2.0 twin-scroll in 2008. All the other DirtFish rally cars are USDM-spec 2.5s. We didn't pick one or another for the test on purpose. This was the car that was not otherwise being used on the day of filming.

    This car is not limiting. I have a 13 xv, all you do is Gass it and guide it. He's over driving the car. With its self alignment the car will correct and balance you out. The less you correct, the more you fly. Guy was being timid and technical.

  • @drivingsports

    You can always just pull the fuse. Search the forums for exactly how to do it. We couldn't do it for this video because it was a loaner from Subaru.

  • @9unslin9er
    @9unslin9er 11 років тому +2

    The Crosstrek desperately needs a Turbo 2.0 bump it up to 200hp and I'd trade my Forester for one. It's just too sluggish right now.
    Turn it into the mid-late-90's Gravel Express and I'd be in love.

  • @Rabbit_Hill
    @Rabbit_Hill 5 років тому

    You can pull the VCD fuse and disable it without risking damaging the car. It would have made running the track so much easier for you too. Disabling the hill assist probably would have helped you off the line too (assuming that’s a 5MT you’ve got there).

    Tell that to the rally teams who run higher lifts on certain stages. It's no sports car, but it doesn't necessarily have floppy handling. Heck, it's got a stiffer suspension than the regular Impreza.

    Touche!!! I agree, that killed it for me, then I jumped into a crosstrek with the manual trans thinking it might be better, WRONG, the gears were so tall that it felt slower than the CVT trek!!!! If i did get one i would have to put an aftermarket turbo on it but then my warranty goes by-by, so whats the point of buying new, for 30k, which is what would be in it after a QUALITY turbo kit was built for it!!

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir 10 років тому +1

      Probably used about the same.. When pushed to the limits cars often use the same amount of fuel, it's at slower pace day-to-day driving where you see milage difference. And let's say the XV was tasked to go as fast as it could and the STI only needed to keep up with it, then the STI would get the better milage. I know it's a bit odd to refer to Top Gear, but they did a really good test with a Prius and a BMW M3 where the M3 only had to keep up while the Prius had to go as fast around the track, and the M3 got way better milage.
