Honestly there's just too much biased personal opinion like 1:37, EA, meat, etc. There are much better channels out there IMO but this is still not that bad.
@@KROTHIAC The "piracy killed the Dreamcast" theory is largely a myth. If I was to really choose the killer, it was that Sega was taking too much of lost per console. It's possible that something as small as selling the Dreamcast in NA at $250 could have made the difference.
The crazy thing about the Dreamcast in Europe was that, even though the console was cheap, the tech was SPECTACULAR, and the game library was to die for. People were just dismissing it by principle due to the Playstation 2-hype. Every friend I had who played the Dreamcast at my house were sitting there, jaw dropped to the floor, in awe of the graphics and the fun factor of the games we played. Yet, still they wouldn't pull the trigger themselves due to the prospect and promise of what the Playstation 2 could hypothetically deliver. Once the PS2 was released, it barely had any games and it was CRAZY expensive. People were trying out Fantavision on the PS2 instead of DOA2 on the Dreamcast (at my local game store) and ultimately they STILL BOUGHT THE PS2 instead of the Dreamcast. This was absolutely mind boggling to me. But I think Sony gained an unbeatable brand recognition and momentum during the PS1-era that it was near impossible for SEGA to regain from consumers. It's only today we can look back at the console and understand how absolutely brilliant, and way ahead of its time it was. It's actually one of the few retro consoles I play every week. And the main reason being it's unique arcade style-, pickup'n'play games library... It is truly unique, quirky and fun, and I will never stop loving it! :)
Yeah i hate people buying stuff just cause it’s familiar, if people had did their research on the Dreamcast it could’ve probably did way better. Everyone was like “GASP PS2!!! BUY IT NOW WHO THE FUCK CARES!” I think the same happened with PS3. While it made a comeback later in it’s life, the Xbox 360 dominated almost, if not that whole generation besides arguably the Wii. PS3 had poor third party optimization and bugs everywhere, it released overpriced as hell, the online wasn’t as good as the 360 and got hacked, even the controller was a downgrade and the console released a year late. Somehow though it barely outsells the 360. Probably just because PlayStation was around longer, and nothing more.
Well said! That was mind boggling to me as well. Dreamcast had everything you'd want as early as 1998...and people were still waiting for the PS2 just because of the brand. And then, it did not deliver anything that the Dreamcast couldn't do.
I am a dedicated PC gamer, but when my brother gave my niece a Dreamcast, I loved it. It was the only console I ever played with. I bought a lot of games for her (Yeah, Right!) to play. PLUS + When SEGA discontinued the Dreamcast I was able to find a ton of cool games for cheap prices because stores started dumping them.
I really loved my dream cast, playing all the green army man games on it and seeing the little memory card light up with their pixels. I just thought it was so much cooler back then how the memory cards were and wish we could see something like that today in newer consoles. The new playstation controllers get close with the lights and what not but would love to see that idea come back. I agree that the PS2 really killed it with titles like ratchet and clank and the whole DVD thing, just got it into so many more houses with kids being able to say it's not just a game console.
I loved the Dreamcast as a child, my favorite game was Fur fighters which was a shooter collectathon with a great soundtrack that people should at least listen to, it also had a neat feature in which the music would change in response to which character was being played. It's a shame nobody talks about it anymore.
I loved fur fighters, used to play split screen pvp (what they called fluffmatch XD) on it against my brother mom and dad, fun times... Plasma beamer was forbidden to use tho XD
Love seeing you pivot into more well crafted stuff, the fact that you spent so long making meme/internet videos probably made you pretty well qualified for this type of stuff. Also loving the fit
I still play my Dreamcast to this day, had it since day one. I've been bringing it along on my work trips lately so I can catch up on all the games I didn't get to play back then because of things like having to share with my brothers or having to compete for my time with the other backlogs on all the other platforms we have now. I love this thing to death and back, it's why I got into cosplay, it's why I love online games, it helped me make so many friends- it's given me so much joy, and was the source of some of the best memories from my childhood.
console evolution is(Was) a rough ride, with heavy upfront investment. Like, a console is simply a computer in disguise, and, it was really tough to try to make one that was good enough, cheap enough, an with enough games for it that it could get a slice of that market share out of Sony's clutches, which to me means a ton of planning to get games developed for it all at the same time. Releasing a console that can succeed is an actual Historical Event in my opinion. You need to coordinate the entire world to get it to do well. So maybe it was ahead of the curve, but anyway, it's alright, it's a very unfair contest anyway. and... in the end, a home computer is actually the best console and you can't change my mind
I still remember seeing one in a display demo case at a Price Club (aka Costco) in '99 and a bunch of *cool* older kids playing it. I also remember my dentist having one in the waiting room (in the way that the dentist always had the impossibly expensive and cool video games Mom and Dad would never buy). It was a wicked cool thing back then, but it fizzled out and nobody talked about it in the schoolyard after a while. Years later, getting into console emulation and playing Soul Calibur on Chankast was friggin awesome. Still to this day I think it's an amazing arcade fighter game. Thanks for the dope content Aztro! Keep it up~
I tried some of the games out through an emulator back when I was in high school with varying success and I had fun fun with them, it's a bummer that consoles live was cut short as it had a lot of potential, I remember watching a video pitching a dreamcast 2 and being hyped for it even though it wasn't official.
10:12 That guy didn’t know the Dreamcast had a CMOS Battery and needed to be replaced that is why he had to input the date and time every time the system was off. I think being able to play pirated games without jailbreaking or modding the system was one of his downfall.
I seriously wish the Dreamcast was a massive comeback for SEGA consoles and that they were still making consoles today. I say that, but it is hard to imagine a world where that did happen considering they pulled out all the stops for this console.

Cool video! Didn't know anything about the Dreamcast. As for that time stamp menu, it's RTC battery (if it has one) is probably dead, not sure if you can find replacements. But I've working with some rtc modules with Arduino and they have a response if their battery is dead, so Sega may have made the menu come up if the battery is dead or the data was wiped.
He is wrong though, Sega did not lower the Dreamcast RRP price, that was Bernie Stolar the Yank Doodle, he went against Sega's wishes and launched the Dreamcast in Yankland at $199 instead of the $249 that Sega had planned, thereby meaning Sega was already losing at least $50 for every single Dreamcast sold in the otherwise very successful Dreamcast launch, which made it a double edged sword. No worries for Bernie the Yank though, like other Yanks who only think for their own self interests and don't care about the damage they do to the company as a whole, he knew he would leave with a fat severance paycheck and a cushy position at Mattel by December 1999, after the damage was already done. However Sega had planned to potentially suspend their hardware series by as early as 1997, Isao Okawa said that even if the Dreamcast sells it would still likely be the last home Sega console in that series. So it had nothing to do with the PlayStation 2, plus the Dreamcast continued to receive official releases as late as 2008 outside of America, so it actually outlasted the original Xbox and even the Nintendo Gamecube. Also, the Dreamcast had a higher software to hardware ratio than Sony did with the PS2, this means that on average, the average Dreamcast owner had at least 8 Dreamcast games compared to the PS2 owner who only had between 4 or 5, because many people did not buy PS2 as a native videogame console, they bought it as a dirt cheap DVD player instead, which is testament to the fact that Sony is not a true gaming company with a native rich software heritage like Sega, but just fundamentally an appliance company that happens to make a black box that plays other companies games on it that Sony make deals too good to refuse in exchange for. And as we all know, it is software that sells hardware, not the other way around. So the company and its IP is always more important than the hardware platform.
It’s cool hearing more about it before its launch in North America. I wasn’t born until a couple years after it was discontinued, but my grandmother worked at Sega. She bought one for my older brother who was born back when it launched in North America. She didn’t develop any software, but she helped with assembling arcade machines & brought some Dreamcast games home but I had to get Sonic Adventure 2 with my own money but it was worth it. It’s pretty special since it was my first console & it introduced me to Sonic & streets of rage through the sega smash pack volume 1. It’s really bad quality but it was the bare minimum & the dev team only had so much time to work on it. Anyway I still use my Dreamcast today & I even put a golden shell on it which is super clean!
dang man, this was great! def didn't expect you to pivot into video essays but this was such a well-done one, learned some new stuff about a cool console :D. also that plaid skirt with the ZR and the boots?? actual fire fit bro 🔥

@@steveburnside3242 Cant we just focus on how Bernie stolar was a greedy bastard without bringing in all the anti american sentiment? Like greed doesnt exist in all countries? Including japan who based its capitalism market off of america? (Also basing even more of its government off of america after WW2) Besides yankee doodle is the name of a New Yorker bud, yankees was what the norths soldiers were called in the civil war. Bernie stolar is from Cali bro, it's about as far on the map as possible from New York in America & the people there have completely different attitudes. So if you're gonna use a bunch of stereotypes & stereotype terms, at least get them right. Because it really kind of discredits the rest of your post. Like for example if you go to a southern state like North Carolina & you're from New York, theres still a lot of anti yankee sentiment there. If a lot of those people hear a New York accent, they will tell the yankee to get lost. Someone from cali would have no issues with these people because they're not a yankee lol
I'd love to wear skirts, but they look way better on skinny people so I'll have to lose about 20 pounds before feeling comfortable wearing one... Love your videos by the way! And love the new Video Essay format!
I mean I think skirts look way better on woman in general (obviously) but that didnt stop him & he kind of somehow even pulled it off. So I guess follow your dreams? Haha
I miss the Dreamcast so much. I should have bought one while it was still cheap pre-Covid. Thanks for doing these. You have that classic G4 Icons feel.
Just a small reminder that Spawn : in the demon's hand was only ever ported to the Dreamcast ( being a arcade game at the time). Its such a overlook game for Spawn fans that i reccomend trying out if you ever get your hands on a dreamcast 👍🤘
These old clips are doing DC NO JUSTICE! When I was a kid I wanted a PS2 my parents got me a DC instead since it was cheaper. It was beautiful! I remember its really like a DREAM! even the remakes from ps1 ESPECIALLY
I honestly loved my dreamcast. Sonic adventure, marvel vs capcom 2 and powerstone define my childhood. I never forget when i got it for Christmas. The console blew my mind. The graphics were so ahead of its time and the memory card technology was super innovative.
Aztrosist hell yeah man, Im really excited to see something different out of you I've been here since 2016 and have always watched and loved your stuff I know this is about to be quality
I’m getting a pre owned Dreamcast for my birthday this year. It comes with Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter, Tetris, Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2, I’ll probably get some other games online like Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi. I’ve played a lot of Dreamcast games on emulators and re releases so it’ll be great to have an actual Dreamcast
SEGA had sadly shit in their customers beds by the time the Dreamcast came out. Don't get me wrong it was the console I wanted to own but nobody had faith in how long it would be before SEGA pulled the plug on it like the 32X & Saturn. Nobody was prepared to take the risk on buying one which is really sad because it was pretty awesome.
Soulcalibur on the Dreamcast was the first time i thought " this is better than at the arcade". It was so crisp. Power Stone was the shit for 4 players fighters. I still have the system and 2 working VMUs.
I remember the launch like it was yesterday, I was staying at my friend Mike's house. We went to the mall, walked through the entire store to find the videogames. They had Dreamcasts set up in the middle of the store. We ended up getting one, and a copy of NFL 2K. The same day of the launch we ran back and forth between Sears and GameStop, it was the first time I even knew what a GameStop was and I felt so much nostalgia when I went back to this mall recently. A funny story was we went to a local diner to eat and while we were eating some lady told her daughter to play the basketball arcade machine. She kept trying and it wouldn't do anything. I leaned over and politely advised the lady to press start. She looked at me funny and said that's not how you turn on a basketball machine. I got an eye roll from the daughter, and then they figured it out. They had to press start. Anyways we went back to Mike's house and played for hours. Great system that didn't get the proper attention or respect. I recall Mike had posters of Saturn and Sega stuff everywhere. Also all of his fav t-shirts were from Sega games, and he owned one of the best Sega games ever in my opinion, Crazy Taxi. His parents were really cool too, so they would always let me stay over at his house on the weekend. I'm glad they were so nice to me because I was so shy and always afraid of doing stuff with other kids, even though I loved spending the weekend at his house. I miss him dearly. Thank you for this video.
I always found it kind of odd that the Dreamcast was released in Japan first. Think about it, the Saturn was still doing modestly well over there thanks to decent third party support which included many JRPGS, many of which were not on the N64. It was America and Europe they should’ve released the system first as the Saturn was a failure in both regions. Releasing the dreamcast early in Japan with dismal launch party titles including a chip shortage alienated many consumers and damaged what could have been a large market in SEGAs home country.
I only played on one a few times as a kid at my aunt's house. I remember being impressed young as I was. I wish I had one. What a nostalgia trip this video was.
This was an amazing video! Great work doin the research! My best friend got a Dreamcast, and his grandpa was a wiz with computers and tech. They always had the most cutting edge tech, it was awesome. It took about a week for his grandpa to learn there wasn't any kinda protection on the system or the games. Once all the roms were uploaded to Ye Ole Internet, he burned them all to discs for us. He had every goddamn game that existed. Looking back now, I feel kinda bad that we did that since it definitely helped kill the console...
I really enjoyed that! I remember when the Dreamcast was out but I went with a GameCube that Christmas. This is making me want to get one and mod it like yours
when i say i dismissed the Dreamcast as anything i’d go back and mess with, keep in mind that i was fairly educated about it on paper (via wikis and other text sources.) i pretty much watched this because i enjoy your channel and i was eating breakfast/lunch/time gas no meaning. well damn if u didn’t sell me on reconsidering. while it is doubtable i want my home taken up by a retro collection again, i am definitely going to emulate and even consider designing for it. i mean a JRPG library i never touched MIGHT be hype for me. on another note, just wanna say cute look in the home footage. classic skirt. i don’t want to make my viewership of a UA-camr about such things, but i gotta say its a good look on you.
Power stone 2 is, to this day, the must fun fighting arena game I have ever played There was also zero gunner 2 which is also amazing Fur Fighter Project justice Dead or alive 2 Code veronica Tomb raider looked great on it Mars matrix There was a toystory game which was quite nice And looney tunes space race looked so good that it looks like a game from nowadays, seriously, look it up There was also a starwars racing game which I played so much with my brother Raising your pets (Chao) and taking them to your memory card to play there on Sonic adventure 1 and 2 was something unheard of at the time There was a star wars game that was incredible, I mean, there were so many good games dear god The ability to play as 4 people made it possible for me, my brother, mom and father to play together which was incredible There were so many good things about this console, and the controller is the best I have ever touched, xbox controller is close to it but not the same thing, playstation controllers always felt too small and cluncky, I mean, dreamcast had no drifiting on its analog, the triggers where actually triggers instead of just a button, it was of better quality overall, I mean, even the disks had gold in it for it to run smoother
Dude I bought myself a Dreamcast back in September of last year which I want to get that for 5 years and I really enjoy this system, and this system is way ahead of time. Fun Fact: the Sega Dreamcast was going to have a DVD hardware built in but due to time consuming we never had that. Also due to PS2 launch it was a final nail in the coffin for the Dreamcast and Sega
Every time one of these videos comes out, it makes me a little bit more sad. The Dreamcast was just SO GOOD - just banger after banger in games. But it just could never derail the PS2 hype train.
The Dreamcast is really good, and it’s sad it failed because there are SO many good games on it, examples being Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Crazy Taxi, Phantasy Star Online, etc.
I remember that release day. I think my dad felt bad because he couldn't buy us one because when we was riding past k mart that day he said the dreamcast is our today then said lets go get some pizza and kept talking about the game. He knew i wanted one
i got a dreamcast for $60 a couple years ago for the sole reason that i wanted to play the vigilante 8: second offense dreamcast port after beating it on my n64. i was like 95% done with unlocking everything and maxxing out every car when the console crashed and corrupted my save file AND my backup save. never played it after 😔 it did ask me for the date every time i turned it on and the controller always showed a pixelated cannabis leaf on startup lmao

This was a really cool video, I actually learned a lot. It’s a shame the console didn’t do so well (also I really liked your outfit)
It's funny how Nintendo is like your best friend growing up, but Sega is the one you think about at adulthood. Like "Man... I miss that dude."
8:56 I was NOT EXPECTING Aztrozist in a skirt and Kneehighs, like i was fully immersed into the video and then just... w h a t .
And he or she was calling that other man weird and ugly lol
i was not ready for a serious astrosist video, but i think i was more unprepared for twink astrosist wearing a skirt.
Though he is wrong, Sega did not lower the Dreamcast RRP price, that was Bernie Stolar the Yank Doodle, he went against Sega's wishes and launched the Dreamcast in Yankland at $199 instead of the $249 that Sega had planned, thereby meaning Sega was already losing at least $50 for every single Dreamcast sold in the otherwise very successful Dreamcast launch, which made it a double edged sword.
No worries for Bernie the Yank though, like other Yanks who only think for their own self interests and don't care about the damage they do to the company as a whole, he knew he would leave with a fat severance paycheck and a cushy position at Mattel by December 1999, after the damage was already done.

@@steveburnside3242 Cant we just focus on how Bernie stolar was a greedy bastard without bringing in all the anti american sentiment? Like greed doesnt exist in all countries? Including japan who based its capitalism market off of america? (Also basing even more of its government off of america after WW2)
Besides yankee doodle is the name of a New Yorker bud, yankees was what the norths soldiers were called in the civil war.
Honestly didn’t expect the dress and thigh highs but you rock them like a champ
Champs don't rock skirts lmaoo
I still play mine, in fact. More than my ps4 and games are still made for it! Got it for £10 in a pawn shop. Best console buy ever
Bernie: "Saturn is NOT our future"
He then went to Jupiter.
Haha
You're a big inspiration for me, making these cool videos and showing up in a skirt as if it was nothing
I want to do aztros makeup, make them look really cute!
I miss the Dreamcast so much. I should have bought one while it was still cheap pre-Covid. Thanks for doing these. You have that classic G4 Icons feel.
Guys, It’s thinking.
And still is in 2024 and beyond
Just a small reminder that Spawn : in the demon's hand was only ever ported to the Dreamcast ( being a arcade game at the time).
Its such a overlook game for Spawn fans that i reccomend trying out if you ever get your hands on a dreamcast 👍🤘
I remember playing this, so fun
These old clips are doing DC NO JUSTICE!
When I was a kid I wanted a PS2
my parents got me a DC instead since it was cheaper.
And Fugu Fish's game, Stupid Invaders, was made for this console.
Aztrosist hell yeah man, Im really excited to see something different out of you I've been here since 2016 and have always watched and loved your stuff I know this is about to be quality
So glad the UA-cam algo brought me to your stuff, it's a whole vibe, good humor. Also loving the outfit
This video was so interesting! I never knew like 75% of these games even existed. Also, those thigh highs look amazing on you🤟🏻🤟🏻much love
Love the change of style!! I think some more absurdist asstrosist jokes would be very much welcome ^^
It's really good to see this kinda variety in your videos
Also skirt Aztro is cute as hell
Good shit Aztro. Keep em' coming. Been subbed since 2016, channel development has been wild.
GREAT VIDEO I LOVE THIS STYLE OF CONTENT
IM GLAD TO SAY THAT I Witnessed the evolution of this UA-camr bro
the PS2 also came with a DVD player. it was a steal
I still have my dreamcast with a complete library...on CDrs that i made years ago, lol. Good job on that DRM Sega lol
Aztro making not-as-memey content is exactly what I needed in 2022
Looks like I picked the right time to check on Aztrosist, your new stuff is great and very unexpected
9:20 I didn't notice my setting suddenly turn down to 144p for some reason and so I thought it was an artistic choice lmao
I love the Dreamcast and your outfit.
I only played on one a few times as a kid at my aunt's house. I remember being impressed young as I was. I wish I had one. What a nostalgia trip this video was.
This is insane, I didn't even think it was you bruh . Keep doing shit like this tho, this is a great video
When you click on the notification expecting a meme but it's a well constructed video essay
when i say i dismissed the Dreamcast as anything i’d go back and mess with, keep in mind that i was fairly educated about it on paper (via wikis and other text sources.) i pretty much watched this because i enjoy your channel and i was eating breakfast/lunch/time gas no meaning.
well damn if u didn’t sell me on reconsidering. while it is doubtable i want my home taken up by a retro collection again, i am definitely going to emulate and even consider designing for it. i mean a JRPG library i never touched MIGHT be hype for me.
on another note, just wanna say cute look in the home footage. classic skirt. i don’t want to make my viewership of a UA-camr about such things, but i gotta say its a good look on you.
I still break out my old Dreamcast to play Powerstone 2 with my brothers. What a game!
Power stone 2 is, to this day, the must fun fighting arena game I have ever played
There was also zero gunner 2 which is also amazing
Fur Fighter
Project justice
Dead or alive 2
Code veronica
Tomb raider looked great on it
Mars matrix
There was a toystory game which was quite nice
And looney tunes space race looked so good that it looks like a game from nowadays, seriously, look it up
There was also a starwars racing game which I played so much with my brother
Raising your pets (Chao) and taking them to your memory card to play there on Sonic adventure 1 and 2 was something unheard of at the time
There was a star wars game that was incredible, I mean, there were so many good games dear god
The ability to play as 4 people made it possible for me, my brother, mom and father to play together which was incredible
There were so many good things about this console, and the controller is the best I have ever touched, xbox controller is close to it but not the same thing, playstation controllers always felt too small and cluncky, I mean, dreamcast had no drifiting on its analog, the triggers where actually triggers instead of just a button, it was of better quality overall, I mean, even the disks had gold in it for it to run smoother
I remember these. My mate had one. Used to play Tomb Raider 5 on it all the time
Hey man, it's nice to see a change in content like this one!
The Dreamcast is really good, and it’s sad it failed because there are SO many good games on it, examples being Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Crazy Taxi, Phantasy Star Online, etc.
I love and miss Dreamcast it set the paveway to what we know today about online gaming.
look at Aztro, memelord extraordinaire, venturing into video essays.
good shit king, keep it up
really good video! love the passion behind it
Ill watch this later
Goodnight
Good night
Good night
Femboy aztro
Aight I’m watching it now
love the new format. ty for da content.
I remember that release day. I think my dad felt bad because he couldn't buy us one because when we was riding past k mart that day he said the dreamcast is our today then said lets go get some pizza and kept talking about the game. He knew i wanted one
The skirt caught me off guard I fw it though
When you brought up Super Magnetic Neo, that brought some memories, great video love the Dreamcast
I played my dreamcast for the first time in for ever today and now this is in my recommend.... Great vid!
yasss wetdreamcast my fav obscure ages console of all time!!!!!
Powerstone was my favorite game growing up
Most underrated game. Mine was Dynamite cop
“ITS THINKING ITS THINKING”
Love this video essay type thing. It's super cool and I'd be down to see more from you.
Btw your outfit is amazing! The skirt and socks work great together.
I love the fact you have a darumaka plush, if you couldn't tell by my pfp i'm a big fan of that lil guy.
love this type of video from aztro
i got a dreamcast for $60 a couple years ago for the sole reason that i wanted to play the vigilante 8: second offense dreamcast port after beating it on my n64.
i was like 95% done with unlocking everything and maxxing out every car when the console crashed and corrupted my save file AND my backup save. never played it after 😔
it did ask me for the date every time i turned it on and the controller always showed a pixelated cannabis leaf on startup lmao
Wow, $290…
Well, inflation puts it at the same price as a Switch at launch.
Then $199?! Thats really good
banger video aztro thank you
You have excellent taste in music ;)
who is this cute little lesbian
I'm very grateful for this love letter to the sega dreamcast
