Your canoe adventures are a welcome relief and antidote to the insanity of the United Kingdom right now. For a while I can immerse myself in the Canadian wilderness, it's a balm for the soul. Keep doing what you're doing, it's sorely needed in these beyond the Twilight Zone strange times.
Same here Andy... not sure the insanity is limited to just us in UK, but we definitely need escapism and, like you, I also find it in the Canadian wilderness with these vids and similar. Food for the imagination. Good luck to you (and me!!) in 🇬🇧
Your pros during this episode are top notch! Your line, "canoeing is apart of me, wound around and within me like twine holding my fleshy seams together" hit me deep. Epic video as always!
"What say you". Such a nice surprise to hear in the wilderness. Learning much about Canada from my humble seat in your canoe. Hope your thumb healed w/o incidence.
Absolutely incredible! I can only imagine the peace and serenity one can experience in solitude like that. I really appreciate your respect for nature. The campsites, collecting "souvenirs" every fish you catch gets a thank you on their way. Many people could learn a thing or two from you
Great trip, was a privilege to watch. I hope you know these videos are not JUST entertaining. They are good for the soul, they are inspiring. During these messed up times they give some of us that little sliver of the wild that we haven't had for a while or that current situations won't allow. Keep paddling Jon!
Wow, what a great watch. The extra time you’re putting into your channel is really paying off. What fun-packed runs, and the love and knowledge you have that you’re sharing is awesome. Love your channel. Thanks John
First class trip and videography as usual. Very nice shots of several mushrooms and those moose were excellent models. Always good to have a pile of nice Walleyes to keep a guy distracted when on the river!
Watching this video has been such a beautiful way to spend some time before lunch on this cold Sunday morning! My coffee tasted better than ever due to the restorative and refreshing outdoor scenery and sounds. Excellent video!
I have watched many of your videos Jon and this one stands out. Really awesome. Thank You for being kind to the fish. I taught my boys to water release and thank the fish, that just demonstrates respect. My respect for you grows with each video. Thank You! Go Well!
Amazing as always. I love the integration of the maps oute shots during the video, and captions for the lake or river names so we can follow along. That was always something I was hoping for…. As a fellow Ontario resident, I really like to be able to understand where you actually are traveling as a way of better familiarizing myself with my own region and for potential future trip selection.
Just love to watch these long trips of yours . you have everything I love to watch. Rain . camping . your setting up camp . also tge catch and cooks . not to mention the narration through tge video.thanks so much for all your hard work
That cabin smelling like death....ugh. Hidden talents that the bird wanted to participate in hahaha. And your face straining in the rapids and then joy. Yes, it must be a grand feeling. Thank-you for documenting your adventure. 🙂
I spend my evenings here vs any prime time TV movie etc, Jon you are a becoming a Canadian legend for documenting and working lost routs and new ones alike. Thank you for the hard grinds and the beautiful views!
Love your videos Jon. They are more like documentaries, with excellent narration and videography. Don't ever change the way you do this. Thanks for taking us along. What a super adventure it was.
Damn I really need to quit my job and run these northern rivers! So cool you can adventure out to these areas and explore with no managers/bosses beckoning you back to society. Keep living the dream! Have the Hip going in the background while watching, nice way to end the week.
Love these videos, and the poetry you speak. Thanks for all your hard work and spring will come again!!!🍁🍂🍁 Beautiful bear, moose, and falls, love it!!! Always an inspiration!!! ❤
Always enjoy your videos, love your poetry. Erin is very lucky to have you, your very smart and realize how valuable and important are environment is. Happy Holidays to both of you, Chris
I envy you for your adventures, and am thankful you've shared your experiences. I could have quit my job to do that too, but I didn’t and you did… On any given adventure, more seldom than you’d like I’m sure, you encounter bear, moose, etc., and the reason you do so is you venture far off the beaten path. Remote. “Normal” people don’t get these types of encounters very often. It’s easy to say people see bears all the time, and people have moose in their back yards. These people aren’t 4 days away from help. They aren’t in a spot where no one will hear their cries for help. I have been remote, but not likely as far as you. People that haven’t been there don’t appreciate the “No one’s going to be here to help me if I need help” scenario. The Zolio is a great tool, but so is a gun, and guns don’t help when you need a doctor. Thanks again for sharing your adventures.
Can't say enough about your work, Jon. I am in Arizona and own a cottage in Quebec in Zec des Joachims. Great place. So is Arizona in case you ever want to visit. I could get you started.
Very much appreciated! You've got the best of both worlds. Watched a canoe trip on the Rio Grande which looked stunning...not that that's in AZ but maybe similar experiences await there. Tempting, though my practical side usually stops me from dreaming about travelling so far for a trip 😅
Absolute home run Jon, Your Introspection was spot on. beautiful scenery, awesome fishing, perfect amount of white water. I am a solo tripper most of the time myself. Very therapeutic for the SOUL, Well done. :) :)
Lovely. It feels like we're right there with you, except we're dry, without the hard work, and no bugs. Thank you for sharing the adventure, for the great job editing them. It's a lot of work, and you make it look easy. 💜
I can't wait for spring again. Grab my kayak, head out and visit some long time no see lakes close by:))) There are a few lakes I like to revisit here in south of norway, that is great fishing and nice camp places. Great video and looking forward to next:)))
Like always very well put to together!!!!!! Just Stunning Beauty!!!!!!! You guy's (Canadians) are the true "Bushman" of the north! Thank you for taking us along. Say Hi to Erin for me.. Vic
"Acorns of this bliss in my mental soil", that's pure poetry and with the dampened guitar, pipes and opening video footage, one of the best first few minutes of any YT video this year, by anyone. Personally I don't think you're a wus for not hanging around that cabin, I look after a lonely farmhouse that was the inspiration for the Hound of the Baskervilles, it gives me the creeps after hundreds of trips there. Great footage of the bear and some of the best yet of moose. The voice overs are a nice touch, they put me in mind of my 'hero' Bill Mason, keep doing what you're doing. Hope you and your 'pocket rocket' are well...Rohan salutes you ;)
You are most kind sir, thanks a million Si!! 💚 Hahah if the mind doesn't normalize creepiness after hundreds of trips, I think it's fair to say your senses are picking up on something real 😅
Being a hermit has its advantages. I can watch this video while eating my thanksgiving dinner without familial interruptions. 😆 It was cool seeing the big overview map to put it all in perspective for those of us in the states. You were way up there. I used to live 90 miles due south of Montreal on A15(?), which is interstate 87 in New York. I don’t think it will be long before you post a “How to install a spray deck” video 👍🏻 Fantastic trip video. Thanks Jon and Erin
For what reason have I this vast range and circuit, some square miles of unfrequented forest, for my privacy, abandoned to me by men? There can be no very black melancholy to him who lives in the midst of nature and has his senses still. Thoreau
This is definitely one of my favorites in your long list of amazing videos. Thanks for doing the extra work of narration and videography. So counterculture to nurture the solitude each of us so desperately needs. Thank you again.
One of my favorites ever Jon. And your words about the canoe and what it means to you, and how end of season feels… had me tearing up. I do have to ask about those Trapper cabins tho. Were those just a free-for-all on public/crown land or did they have leases/permits. I think the closest thing we have here in Minnesota is leases in state and national forest land for hunting shacks. I just find the concept so fascinating. Keep up the good work!
Truly appreciate that Max 💚 It's a first world problem I guess, but it hits some of us hard this time of year. The golden rule here is that a citizen can only occupy a crown land camp site for 21 days, after which point they have to move at least 100m. The first one on the river I'm sure would've been a trapper's cabin and I believe they never own the land but are given a permit for their trapline. The junkyard might've been a trapper's, but also could've been a fly-in outpost camp in which case I think it's most likely they'd be given a land use permit to build on the land (but might never own it). The third creepy one could be the same, or even a personal recreation camp where they owned it. My understanding is that the gov will rarely sell land these days, but back in the day it happened sometimes. If anyone understands this stuff better, feel free to correct me
Paused the video at the "to season this fish I've got some wild grass and flowers..." it's one thing to say something that's really funny, but another to set the stage! Loving the content. Take care of that thumb. Cheers.
I am loving the backlog of your videos as you take time to heal. Hope you are feeling better and can get back out there when you are ready. In the meantime, enjoy the time with that special lady. She is an absolute trooper. ❤
Thank you, That brought me such peace. I grew up in northern MN. And this brought me back to my youth. My grandfather had a very small cabin on namakan lake he built in the early 50’s east end of junction bay. We grew up canoeing there and the boundary waters.keep it up most will never get to experience such peace tranquility and freedom..
Just watched this, great video. I waiting until the wife and I can watch it together regardless of when you upload. Yes, when walking in the woods and a grouse takes off beside you it's an adrenaline rush! Gets the heart pumping. Cheers
Would have to say the thing that really makes your adventures stand out from other campers I've watched is you're always on the move to show us the overly beautiful scenery the lands offer. Thank you and love watching your videos.
When lining upstream its called Tracking, and as you did in the little stream two lines are used typically with saddle hitches about seat positions, rope slung under the canoe with a loop to tie to this puts the pull point down low on the boat not up on top at the deck, the boat is trimmed heavy to the rear as you discovered flipping ends for the light end up then kick the boat out into the current and let the bow drift out with the stern heavy and closer in it will ferry out, pull on the real line and play the front ling, it fun to practice flying a canoe and practical when it comes time to head up stream. Then there is the poling, sure some stretches will be too much but many can be poled up with easy and its super fun. there must be canoe poling work shops in you area. Canoepoler on utube has some fun video on poling there are others as well,
been watching you since the spring, you've given me a ton of inspiration to continue wilderness adventures, and to sharpen up on my fishing skills. It was a pleasure enjoying these trips with you.
What a totally fantastic trip! The wildlife encounters were wonderful and the walleye fishery was something else! Nice to dedicate that one to Erin, am betting she would have loved to be there as well. Thanks for sharing. :) :)
You make me look forward to wonderful adventures in the wilderness with my girlfriend. I started showing her how to fish. By the same token, watching your videos is helping me get through depression by giving me something to hold on to. Thank you
Well done! I also love that you use barbless hooks. Less chance of burying a hook in your hand also. I'm 3/4 through and you really had decent weather considering the time of year. The wind seemed good too. That one cabin was spooky for sure. They all have a story behind them brom being built to parties thrown. Like ghosts now. And I want to say I love the split screen when hitting the rapids. That's a great way to let us experience it. Thanks for posting!
Really appreciate that Tom! I've learned that barbed hook lesson the hard way but glad I did. Weather was amazing for the season...brought back some bugs but not too bad. Wind was only a real hindrance on one day (day 7) which is probably the luckiest factor of all
I haven’t watched your videos for several months . Too busy working day and night , watching this stuff just makes work harder 😉. I just did a 7 day fly in trip and when I want to continue a northern experience , vicariously through someone else’s narration, yourself and the Baird brothers are what I look for on-line . Always good 👍 Thank you
Honestly dude. You are the only youtuber that I follow that when I am bored I go back and rewatch your old content. You are a great film maker. I have probably watched this 3 times now. So cool. I hope your knee is not keeping you from getting after it. Injuries suck...
Hey John, I know that I have commented on this video in the past but I can’t help myself to do so again. There is a feel to it that I find so magical. I love the intro and the music you chose. This is one of my favourite videos on UA-cam. Obviously I’ve seen it a few times. Amazing job. 👍
Its funny that dead tree was so huge but yet it looked so easy when you pushed it over. It was like you were as strong as the hulk pushing that tree over.
Another beautiful canoe adventure lovely landscape so pretty with the Tamaracks in their golden glory. Love your camp spot and views you had on the island on Ogokie lake so spectacular. wild life capture's are always enjoyable have to love the far north. awesome walleye fishing Mmmm. cabins were cool finds kinda creepy though the falls and area so epic, love your videos Jon keep em coming their so relaxing with some tense moments through the rapid scenes
Really beautiful video. I really enjoyed your description of your relationship with canoe trips. A lot of really great points and you can feel the emotion. Love the Channel.
Awesome video Jon. One of my favorites. I love the two views when you go down rapids and the way you capture as much of what you experience for us to see. Its not lost on me how much work that must be while trying to navigate the route you are on as well as take the time to soak it all in and experience it yourself to. I am sure that even without UA-cam you would be out there in a canoe fishing in some out of the way hard to get to place because thats your passion and i think thats what i love most about your channel. Keep it up and stay safe doing it. Cheersssss
Awesomeness enjoyed your thoughts just so peaceful and quiet giving us time to ponder … great footage and really likes following yr maps from where you have travelled to and where you came from .. beautiful wildlife and thanks so much for taking the time videotaping the moose and bear.
The most beautiful video I think I have ever seen in my life. Thank you for sharing and God bless!❤️
Aw thanks so much Lorraine! 💚
Very much appreciated Andy 💚 Hang in there my friend
Same here Andy... not sure the insanity is limited to just us in UK, but we definitely need escapism and, like you, I also find it in the Canadian wilderness with these vids and similar. Food for the imagination. Good luck to you (and me!!) in 🇬🇧
Absolutely perfectly filmed, loved coming along on this journey.
Your pros during this episode are top notch! Your line, "canoeing is apart of me, wound around and within me like twine holding my fleshy seams together" hit me deep. Epic video as always!
Perfect timing Jon. Viewing will be great for after Thanksgiving dinner relaxation. A million times better than any NFL game. 😁
Thanks RiverOtter!! Thought it might work well for you folks down there with the day off :)
Couldn’t agree more
Exactly what I ended up doing after reading this comment, I waited till after the Thanksgiving dinner to watch this.. Good call..
Jon I’m up in manitouwadge Ontario quite abit in the summer months are you around that area
Do you know where he is? Like what part of Canada? 😊
"What say you". Such a nice surprise to hear in the wilderness. Learning much about Canada from my humble seat in your canoe. Hope your thumb healed w/o incidence.
Brilliant from start to finish , the island camps ,the Bear, the Moose, the struggle ,the fishing and best of all your narrative 😊
Greatly appreciate that HtH!!
Absolutely incredible! I can only imagine the peace and serenity one can experience in solitude like that. I really appreciate your respect for nature. The campsites, collecting "souvenirs" every fish you catch gets a thank you on their way. Many people could learn a thing or two from you

Tamarack are also one of my favorites for their autumn transition to forest gold. Incredible film work as usual.
Thanks so much Michael!
Your videos are stunning.
Makes me crave to go out myself again. Thanks for that.
Really appreciate that!
Your words painted a lovely picture at the beginning. You’ve become my favourite content creator easily.
Truly appreciate that! 💚
Truly another masterpiece, Jon! The footage of the moose and bear was amazing. The drone imagery is always appreciated.
Truly appreciate that WW!!
That rapid run at 19 minutes was incredible.
Great trip, was a privilege to watch. I hope you know these videos are not JUST entertaining. They are good for the soul, they are inspiring. This is an incredibly chill and relaxing ride you've taken us on, Jon. Best of the luck with the channel; you deserve far more subscribers!
Very much appreciated!!
That cabin smelling like death....ugh. Hidden talents that the bird wanted to participate in hahaha. And your face straining in the rapids and then joy. Yes, it must be a grand feeling. Thank-you for documenting your adventure. 🙂
0:50 to 1:30 was one of the most well written paragraphs I've ever heard. If you came up with that on your own, that's beyond impressive.
Really appreciate that! 💚💚
Oh yes. If you keep on like that you can write books as well.
Stuck at my desk in Toronto. Your videos get me through the day. Incredible.
Thank you so much Mike...I know that situation exactly and feel your pain!
I spend my evenings here vs any prime time TV movie etc, Jon you are a becoming a Canadian legend for documenting and working lost routs and new ones alike. Thank you for the hard grinds and the beautiful views!
Truly appreciate that DS!!
Getting straight poetic on this one eh? Great video, cheers
Apologizing for misgendering the squirrel is the most Canadian thing ever lol! Love these funny little moments John put in here
😝😝
😅
I died 😂
Love your videos Jon. They are more like documentaries, with excellent narration and videography. Don't ever change the way you do this. Thanks for taking us along. What a super adventure it was.

It's a good life (if you don't weaken 😜). Thanks Mack!
That was amazing! Thank you so much for taking me along. Peace be with you.
Very much appreciated! ✌
Love these videos, and the poetry you speak. Thanks for all your hard work and spring will come again!!!🍁🍂🍁 Beautiful bear, moose, and falls, love it!!! Always an inspiration!!! ❤
Truly appreciate that KC! 💚 Spring feels that much sweeter after 6 months of snow :)
Perfect way to end the snow less ice less season. By the way the black fly clap gag EPIC.
Hahaha thanks Peter!
Your videos make us realize how fortunate and lucky we are to live in such a beautiful country like Canada!
Always enjoy your videos, love your poetry. Erin is very lucky to have you, your very smart and realize how valuable and important are environment is. Happy Holidays to both of you, Chris
I always delight to watch your journey. Thanks for sharing this.
nice vacation, no traffic, no gas stations no restaurants no long lines just you nature and your skills 👍 great video
I envy you for your adventures, and am thankful you've shared your experiences.
I could have quit my job to do that too, but I didn’t and you did…
On any given adventure, more seldom than you’d like I’m sure, you encounter bear, moose, etc., and the reason you do so is you venture far off the beaten path. Remote. “Normal” people don’t get these types of encounters very often. It’s easy to say people see bears all the time, and people have moose in their back yards.
Truly appreciate that Adam! 🙂🙂 Best therapy on earth, for me
these are the lakes and rivers of my youth; thanks for taking me back in time.
Lovely. It feels like we're right there with you, except we're dry, without the hard work, and no bugs. Thank you for sharing the adventure, for the great job editing them. It's a lot of work, and you make it look easy. 💜
Greatly appreciate that Andrea! 💚
Great video thanks for taking us along
You really are getting trip time under the ol' PFD~~! Top editing and storytelling.
Never feels like enough time 😅 Much obliged Shug!
I love your tales from the empty cabins. Memories of northern times now past. That looked like some pretty good Ruffed Grouse country. Thx
I can't wait for spring again. Grab my kayak, head out and visit some long time no see lakes close by:)))
There are a few lakes I like to revisit here in south of norway, that is great fishing and nice camp places.
Great video and looking forward to next:)))
We've got a long way to go hahah. Thanks Fiskeflette!
Awesome video as always. You know how to do the Wilderness proud and I appreciate your efforts in that regard.
You ambassadorship is fantastic.
Truly appreciate that Matt!
You're living the dream full time, I'm watching them all brother! Cracking a beer and tucking into this tonight.
Living the dream indeed :) Cheers Patrick!! 🍻
@Grape Juice hahah would love beer out there but Scotch offers a better punch for the weight 😜
Like always very well put to together!!!!!! Just Stunning Beauty!!!!!!! You guy's (Canadians) are the true "Bushman" of the north! Thank you for taking us along. Say Hi to Erin for me.. Vic

Fantastic trip video.
Thanks Jon and Erin
LOL cheers to that. Very tempted to invest in a spray deck...some day I'm sure. Thanks a lot Alan!
re maps “putting things in perspective for us in the states”. : believe me, 99.9% of canadians don’t have any idea where the Ogoki r. is.
@@flyinacircle6398 Hahah so true
@@LostLakes yeah love it when you get the maps out
I've watched this so many times. I just woke up to the guitar & moose moment after the 1:19:00 mark. So chill.

Hahaha perfectly natural 😜
Excellent Video Jon .. Thanks for taking us with you on your Journey
Thanks very much Michael!
"FOOLISH BOY!!!!"....... 😂👌
Great Video.. Was waiting for it. 👌💯
🇨🇦
Hahaha thanks a lot Justin!
Paused the video at the "to season this fish I've got some wild grass and flowers..." it's one thing to say something that's really funny, but another to set the stage! Loving the content. Take care of that thumb. Cheers.
Hahah much appreciated Rick! My thumbprint may be forever changed but otherwise no worse for wear :)
You are such a perfect balance of meaningful, methodical poetry... and crackin jokes about the clap 🤣🤣🤣 Love your videos!
LOL 💚💚 Thanks so much Christina!!
wonderful video, thank you for taking us along; and thank you Erin for supporting Jon.

Love the poetic VO. A great end to the canoe backcountry season!
Very much appreciated Greybeard!

I on the other hand had to remind myself to breathe, watching you go through those rapids!
Hahah!
The cinematography has really been top notch lately. Well done sir.

Your videos are showing great improvement, not to say they weren’t good, but really enjoy all the extra cinematography.
Much appreciated David!
This was special - The awe. The wonder. Your reflective and respective demeanor combined with your videography made this oh so special. Thank you.
Thank you so much Lori! 💚

Then there is the poling, sure some stretches will be too much but many can be poled up with easy and its super fun. there must be canoe poling work shops in you area. Canoepoler on utube has some fun video on poling there are others as well,
Thanks very much for this Timberdoodles! Going to have to practice this next season for sure
Thanks for taking us. It reminds me of my time exploring Missanabi lake and all the logging camps...
Amazing as always.
What a great adventure...thanks for sharing & well done video!!!
Much appreciated Jim!!
been watching you since the spring, you've given me a ton of inspiration to continue wilderness adventures, and to sharpen up on my fishing skills. It was a pleasure enjoying these trips with you.
Thank you so much Erick! Appreciate you joining me :)
What a totally fantastic trip! The wildlife encounters were wonderful and the walleye fishery was something else! Nice to dedicate that one to Erin, am betting she would have loved to be there as well. Thanks for sharing. :) :)
She would've...8 months left in her program at least! That'll free her up so much. Thanks as always J!!
great video john! Loved the evolution of your style!!!
Much appreciated Marty!!
You make me look forward to wonderful adventures in the wilderness with my girlfriend. I started showing her how to fish. By the same token, watching your videos is helping me get through depression by giving me something to hold on to. Thank you
Thanks a lot Louis-Pierre :) Hang in there my friend, brighter days ahead.
Thank so much Andrew :)
great bullwinkle shots-winter here in the Northwoods-be safe young voyager! peace
Hahah a couple of cooperative subjects :)
Your filming and subject matter is amazing!!! Love your videos, it’s so beautiful.
Thank you so much Brenda!!
Thank you John , your work is so amazing thanks for sharing with all of this✌🏼❤🎥💯
Really appreciate that Lisa!! 💚
Hey John, I know that I have commented on this video in the past but I can’t help myself to do so again.
There is a feel to it that I find so magical. I love the intro and the music you chose. This is one of my favourite videos on UA-cam. Obviously I’ve seen it a few times. Amazing job. 👍
Well I will never tire of the kind words Chuck, thank you so much!
Its funny that dead tree was so huge but yet it looked so easy when you pushed it over. It was like you were as strong as the hulk pushing that tree over.
Hahaha I wish I was that strong but it was super rotten
Really appreciate that Patrick! 💚
You’re spirt is absolutely admirable. You are definitely the type of man who would have done well long long ago.
Cheersssss
I really appreciate you showing the overview of the route on the map.
Appreciate that feedback! Gotta make a habit of that
Awesomeness enjoyed your thoughts just so peaceful and quiet giving us time to ponder … great footage and really likes following yr maps from where you have travelled to and where you came from .. beautiful wildlife and thanks so much for taking the time videotaping the moose and bear.
Much appreciated Patti!
