I made a very similar jig to this from plans in the Australian Woodworker magazine back before I could afford a domino. It’s more accurate, more consistent and has options for much bigger tenons. There’s very little you can’t do with this that you can do with the domino.
Absolutely - angled mortises, really long pieces (unless you've got a big ladder!) and just generally being quicker is "all" the domino gives you. With the right size router bits, could fairly easily outstrip the capacity of the DF500 too.
Don't worry about us Europeans screaming about dado's, I am in the UK, I have a dado table saw. I posted some pictures using it on a UK FB page and they still went nuts lol I bought mine in the UK so do not have any concerns
Cool system. I've often thought about making a template jig just like this. You could even have a template for dowels when you run out of dominoes :D .. although dowel joinery needs to be that much more accurate.
They are allowed, but often saws are sold with too-short Arbors to meet certain safety guidelines and the internet likes to make up conspiracy theories about such things
Yup! There are a couple like Leighs FMT, Trends M/T or the MortisePal that do more or less the same thing. WoodSmith/PopWood/FWW/Phil Morley all have similar DIY jigs/plans too - all with pros and cons. For example, this template system I'm using allows for quick change over to different sizes, but no adjustability without making a whole new template.
6mm, though it honestly doesn't matter - 3mm would work fine too, just depends on how much material you do (or dont) remove from the template holder area!
This has frighteningly little to do with the video, but on your Bosch plunge router when you let go of the plunge lock lever does it spring back and actually lock securely or do you have to also push it to get it to lock properly? I have the same router and it's not locking when I let it go and I can't remember if it worked properly before or if it was always this crap and I just didn't notice.
Just went out to check. From force of habit with all routers I locked it the first few times! When you let go, it's a bit hit and miss how well it grabs (without pushing). It seems to correspond with how far it's "wound" - if you use the micro adjuster, it moved the blue portion on the back (where the lock is). The higher up that is, the firmer it grabs. Midway is pretty good, but limits the range to microadjust then
Nice job! Nice balance between horrendously complex, taking days to make with adjustabilty that will never be used AND lots and lots of very very specific jigs.
I found them early last year! Screws are fantastic value. However, I absolutely hated that driver bit though. I found that it wouldn't insert into the screw head far enough, causing the bit to jump out; as seen in your at 8:06. Do you use an arlec remote controller to operate your dust collector?
I've had probably the opposite problem with that driver where it gets stuck because its such a snug fit! I *used* to use the arlec remote on my DC - worked just great. My new DC has a different switch which is a bit harder to come by so I haven't wired out the NVR so that it works with the arlec remote. These days, I just use it on my shopvac
Yeah nah you got a good one! I have a few in different lengths and none fit quite right! Their screw driver is perfect. Last time I couldn’t find a driver i cut that screw driver and slapped it in the drill lol. I had the same issue with the switch on my big dc. I decided to rewire with out it. I couldn’t figure out what to do with the second power unit until my mother in law came to stay for a few months. I connected the washing machine to it after learning that she washes her slippers everyday lol.
Thanks Paul, another cracking video. Angry Europeans be damned! However, I'll have to penalise you 2 manliness points for using a power hacksaw to cut aluminium t-track. On the other hand, you receive 3 manliness points for owning a power hacksaw. Overall manliness score = 1. 👍🏽
I feel targeted but umm Guilty, and yes i need to make one of these now !!!
hahahaha, love your dry humour.😆😆😆
Yeah, I'd use the CNC too, be silly not to, oh wait! 😖😉
Good job, man. 👍🏽

Nice video. Loved the Q&A section. I did larf... a lot.
I've been trying to add in something to each video to make my wife either giggle or roll her eyes at me, so I'm glad others are noticing too :D
Thanks for sharing and for the video and the free plans. Happy New Year to you and your family.

So when’s the video showing how to make your own dado-blade-compatible tables saw with matching blades coming out?

I've been curious for some time now - why are Dado stacks not allowed in Europe? (I"m Australian - it's just curiosity for me)

Cool, It looks a lot like a Leigh FMT jig.

How thick is your template material? I could not find it anywhere in your plans.

@@TheWoodKnight Thanks for checking! So it's dependent on the other thing that I broke eons ago. Great!
@@TheWoodKnight I think the trick is to bring the lever all the way down and let it go there.
Awesome FAQ Speed Round. lol

downloaded your plans and i will build one thanks a milion
Спасибо, дорогой друг !
I don't suppose that maroon Robertson driver came from screw it screws by any chance?
Yup! Been using ScrewIt's stuff for years

good weather and dado stacks... so unfair....hehe
Do I need to pay an annual fee to join the Festool club just so I can buy Festool Dominoes? Or are they yet to introduce the membership fee? 😂😂😂
Don't give them any ideas! 😂
So long as you drink the green Koolaid every couple of years, they waive the recurring membership fee ;)
They will still complain. #TrollLife. 😁
I'm beginning to suspect you're the ring leader of then 😂
