I am completely new to turning and found this video on using Carbide chisels very very helpful, and to see the SCH3 chisel is a game changer on the finish, thanks very much for taking the time to do the video, great stuff.
Welcome to the channel Alan. Have you subscribed yet? If so, thank you in advance. It helps the channel to grow. We put vids up every week. What an absaloutley amazing detailed lesson on new turning a bowl with your set glen i very very detailed and in-depth the only difference i have is the mortice you put on the bottom to accept the jaws am guessing the detail then matches the chuck jaws. My jaws are not dovetailed they seem just be a 90 as such jaws. 👍🏴
Hi guys What a great video, packed with advice, knowledge and skills. Your demonstration and tools are 1st class. I wouldn’t be where I am today without your video’s and tools.
Thanks for a really good informative lesson, received my tools today thanks, made up with them. Just need to give them a go now and you’ve just shown me how cheers guys 👍.
Once again great video Glenn and Liza. I've had a couple of your chisels before so after this video I'm putting in my new order now. I joined the local Man Shed but feel like Billy-no-mates so its you guys on YT. I'll get there because with you there never seems to be any pressure. Thanks again. Allan
Hi Allan. This seems to be a big problem across all clubs. What a community this is! Well you have us here. We are always happy to help. If you have any questions, feel free to drop us a comment or an email. We can always answer it in a video. It's meant to be about having fun. No pressure here. Happy turning. Toodle pip for now. Excellent video Glenn and Liza. Thank you so much for doing one from the point of view of a new turner with only a midi lathe and a set of your standard chisels and a couple of extras. Thanks also for your answers to my questions… now to have a go at making my own adjustable handle(s)! 😊
You reminded me of Tommy Cooper when you kept going behind the curtain and coming out with something different. Excellent video again guys. They join your local club for some training but the one I joined did not explain things as clear as have doen. Learnt a lot guys Thanks and keep up the good work
Lol. Glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. We get told this all the time, about Clubs. Apparently calling people Scrapers because they choose to use carbides. What kind of community is this, that treats it's own members like that?
Great video! Am yet to turn a bowl. And have my first carbide tools on the way. This was a great watch and provided some inspiration! After watching this, I am confident in my capabilities to tackle a bowl!
Glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. Good luck in turning your first bowl. Let us know how you get on. Happy turning. Toodle pip for now. Glenn & Liza
thank you for this. Like (only because there is no super like button) and happy to be a new subscriber. I love your vibe and skill, Again thank you sir. I would share more about my journey but not appropriate here on comment. In short I decided to live and celibate life after beating cancer. I have always had a passion to turn since high school wood shop. I am now 54. Much respect for you and the time you take to share. I have not turned my lathe on for over 3 years now out of frustration, and yes fear. (Fear from some bad experiences with catches with non carbide. I now have basic carbide tools). I want you to know this video has me wanting to celebrate life again by turning on my lathe. what is that finishing carbide chisel?
Hi Glen. Welcome to the channel. Glad you are enjoying watching our videos and find them helpful. It makes them all worthwhile when we hear that our video has made you want to enjoy woodturning again and not to be scared. The finishing carbide chisel is my SCH 3. It's a great finisher. @@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca5308 thank you for your reply. I thought I heard wrong in video about the finishing carbide. Google search is letting me down lol.
Top stuff. I have introduced carbide to our men's club and this should help greatly. Your shield and mask look good. Can you tell me where you got it from?
Hi glen im just started my journey into wood turning ive been given a old nutool wood lathe and some chisels which i think are cheap ones , im looking at a axminster midi lathe in the near future, as you anderstand price is a major factor for many people i like that you show people how to make some items ,the question i have for you is do you think a set of carbide tools around £40-£60 are any good thank you in advance subscribed to your channel and i think you will be my tutor for a while as there are no turning workshops near me thank you again
Hi Gareth. Welcome to the channel. Thanks for subscribing. It helps the channel to grow. I can't recommend any other tools. I never recommend any tools I have never used myself. At £40-£60 a set, I presume you are talking about the ones coming from China. You take your own chance on that. Do they come with guarantees? What I can guarantee you is that those tools will not do what I do with mine on my channel. All my tools, on my website come with a Lifetime Guarantee.
Lots of good advice and a great no nonsense presentation style
