I totally agree. MODO Bass is the best one anywhere. I have been a user of the paid original version for quite a while and I love it. I write most of my bass lines in Sonar using the staff view, so the ability to control various parameters of the plugin via articulation maps comes in very useful to me and serves to make my bass lines more believable. I also use MODO Drum (also original paid version) and see no reason in the foreseeable future to change from either. IK Multimedia definitely has winners with both of these products, and I have no association with them other than being a product user.
I've tried modo bass before and its one of the best plug ins I've ever used, and the best bass plug in by a mile. I loved using the different bassee but my favourite was the viola Paul McCartney bass. This plug in is insane you could chose the type of strings and the type of amp amp and everything, its so realistic and high quality.
As a bassist I wasn't sure if this would appeal, but after watching your video I am definitely going to download. I'm very impressed with what I've just seen.
I'm not a bass player, but I do prefer to lay down 'real' bass. However, sometimes there are sounds I can't get, which make a plugin like this very useful.
Thanks, will definitely check this out. Very clear and thorough review, and you touched on all the things I wanted to know as a bass player. I have a lite version of the original Modo Bass. Within 15 minutes of loading and activating it I was able to create a punchy, real-sounding bass track for a song I was building. I thought the plugin would be a perfect way to quickly create a temporary track that I would later replace with a performance. But it sounds so much better than micing my amp, and I can create phrases in MIDI that are beyond my abilities, easily change them without re-recording. By far my favorite product from IK Multimedia.
I have MODO Bass 2’s predecessor and I love it…I want to upgrade to Bass 2 here soon. I hope that IK does a MODO Guitar at some point because if they are able to incorporate all the mechanics of MODO with the ability to custom build a guitar sound…it would be a game changer.
Thanks for the recommendation, Mike. I am definitely going to try this out. I'm sure I'll stick with the free version since it already exceeds my level of musical sophistication.
Thanks Mike, great shout for this and great demo. I've downloaded this straight away. Can't afford the full version, but this free version looks pretty good and I will give it a go.
I have always recorded my own bass tracks, but this plugin looks incredible. Definitely going to try the free version. The full version is also quite appetizing.
Hi! Just installed this free version, tried it for a few minutes and... awsome! I used to work with the free P Bass Lite from Xln, which I loved, but it seems that the MODO sounds... woof! Once again, thanks to Mike for letting us know about this product.
since i dont play keyboards , in what other way could i use this one ? could i play the bass myself and then convert the audio into midi ? Thank you for the video Mike . Yours , Jim Coosy
Although I own MODO bass v1, I’m interested in how the patterns work in this free version. Slides and keyswitching are tricky and therefore I really like EZBass for the ease and functions of programming a bass part and it sounds great too.
Sure Sir, Its an eye opening video. We can do a lot with this. I feel there is no need to go for other vsts as far as my work is concerned. Thanks for the good work.
Nice review, thanks. What I really would need to know though is, how does it handle slides. Eg Waves bass vst only handles slides up to a tone I think, which is frankly pants. Far more important than all those models is the slide. In the mix most of those models are indistinguishable anyway, but the difference a slide makes is unmistakable.
Amazeballs all this for nish shekels no brainer!! I think it commands a space on my C drive thanks Mike great demo as you'll have guessed I fancy this one😀
Sounds amazing, definitely going to download. One question though. The current VST I use frustrates the heck out of me as it always seems to use an open string sound if the note can be played as an open note. For example a high G will sound like an open G string instead of the 5th fret on the D string. Sometimes you want the more muted sound of a fretted note. Does this one give you options around that? You mentioned you can tune the lower E down to a D, but I wouldn’t want to be tuning the strings up and down temporarily to get around the issue. Thanks as always for another great video.
I think only EZbass don't offer the possibility to use the string we want, that's a big negative aspect that we don't see with the most popular bass vst
As always with IK, you'll want to watch out for sales and especially their Group Buys. Most of their products are at the pricier end normally, but there's an endless variety of ways to save money on them.
Wondering about blending real with VST - they've kind of thought of nearly everything. I've been seriously thinking I need a 2nd electric bass based on string issues alone - be nice to have one bass with new strings (slapping popping funk) record only, and the other with older strings (most everything else - including practicing). Overall this is Impressive !!!
It's all fine as long as you play only one note at a time. The challenges I've met with most virtual basses are more complex things, like playing two tones (or more :D) simultaneously, chords etc. But nonetheless, the MODO bass is indeed a very fine virtual instrument and even the free version provides great possibilities.
Bought MODO a few years back but stopped using it a while ago. Downloaded this new version yesterday and I remembered why, compared to sampled basses like EZ Bass and the Kraken it doesn’t sound very good with external processing (bass amp VSTs outside of the built-in interface) and that’s a deal breaker.
Your statement makes no sense. If it sounds good as a DI, it sounds good amped too. Are you sure you disabled Modo Bass' amp+cab before routing it to another amp sim?
i do love all the features they offer but the only thing that's not that realistic sounding is the slap sound for fonk once that is good modo bass will have lifted the bar for all other VST it's really not easy to get a gritty nasty dirty fonk sound but i do use this plugin
Have you tried the many different presets on the top-left of the plugin? You can quickly get some very nasty slap sounds out of some of those. Or you could just tweak the sound yourself. Sounds very realistic to me.
im new to using a bass vst. what about using the strings from the 5th fret and beyond? so far, the demo is showing the strings only being strummed in the first 4 frets.
although this VST has been in my toolbox since version 1.0 (well the base one), it does have one thing that holds me back from using it in a daily basis: tuning (as in not just drop D, but freely tuning to any you want, open E/drop C/double drop, etc.) tuning is a pretty important aspect to me (since I uses Eb/D# tuning), so the fact that IK tries to add a lot of bells and whistle but completely forgot one of the most important part of fretted strings instrument like this is a pretty big yikes to me; but still, compare to other free solutions like AmpleBass then this one is a solid win (only by 1 point which was the previously mentioned tuning problem)
Can you go on lower notes with this VST ? Like B or lower for Baritone guitar tunings ? Because for example on the free version of ample bass you can only use a standard tuning bass
Yes, you can change the number of strings from 4 to 5 or 6 in standard tuning. There is also a "Drop" setting where you can drop your lowest string down a whole tone on all string number settings.
Can it replicate trem picking or does it sound like arpeggiated digital nonsense? I'm trying to find a free bass VST decent for metal. But Im not sure that exists. 😞
Yes, tremolo is well handled. It can automatically alternate between up and down pick strokes and has infinite round robins. If you want even more realism you can always randomize the velocities a bit in your DAW's piano roll.

First for a change lol. That bass is awesome. Been hard to find a realistic sounding bass VST. Love it!
Glad you like it!

@@CreativeSauce yes, I'd much rather drag and drop to see what difference moving a pick-up makes than start hacking my Warwick to pieces!
Lol

Thanks for the demo, very interesting! I shall be giving this vst a go 😊
More importantly....that Gretsch behind you is STUNNING

Have fun man!
I saw this when I did update recently...now I'm going to try it...Thanks Mike! Great review, as always.
Thanks Kim!
Just the free 60s bass itself is bonkers enough. Can't believe IK did this.
I typically use the SI Bass but this is DEFINITELY getting downloaded! More options for tone. Thanks for the video!
Have fun Jay!
Thanks Mike, great shout for this and great demo. I've downloaded this straight away. Can't afford the full version, but this free version looks pretty good and I will give it a go.
Thanks for watching Ray. Have fun!

Thankfully watching Beau, have fun with it!

I'm quite happy with SI Bass, but will give it a try if my system holds it. Great video Mike! Peace y music!
THIS is how a tutorial should be
Free 99. My favorite price point. Thank you for the video.
:)

Crazy levels of customization for free plugin, will def be giving this a go.
Great review! I just wished they'd do a MODO guitar!

A really good point. Yes, it handles slides up to 12 step, adjustable in the settings.
I'm jumping on this! And I'll check out the paid version as well as long as it does break the bank lol! Thanks Mike for this great demo!
Have fun Dana!
@@CreativeSauce this is a great bass vst! Can't afford the paid but its still great- luv it!
Sounds amazing Mike. IKM has done a great job again with ver 2.
Beautiful! Thanks.
I use the Cackewalk Si Bass and find it good but this really is as versitile as you could ever want.
This is indeed such a great piece of software. I unlocked the full version today at a real good price. Cool video Mike 👍
Damn, I thought this was for an actual bass. However, this looks pretty awesome and could be fun to mess around with!
Got this a few weeks ago but not played with it yet - sounds excellent. Nice review as always Mike!
Thanks Mike. Goodness, how much you get here for free!! This will be my go to for sure. Subbed.
Greatly explained and clear thanks!
This looks really good, thanks Mike. I'll have to go have a look at it...😁
Thanks Dave, enjoy!
thanks man will def download
Amazeballs all this for nish shekels no brainer!! I think it commands a space on my C drive thanks Mike great demo as you'll have guessed I fancy this one😀
Very sweet... Checking it out right now! :)
I'm looking for some good bass guitar plugins, then bumped into your video mic. Thanks for the review. Definitely gonna try this.

thanks for sharing Mike its great

Hi - Seems really great - All is ok with MPC Beats or/and MPC Software ? Thanks
Great Gorgona shirt!

I was just thinking thr same thing. Could make for some very thick sounding bass.

Challenges? In what way?
@@CreativeSauce In the way that it's quite hard to accomplish (IF at all). I found my way to do it with another vendor's products though.
I would think with a keyboard this would not be an issue at all.
Bought MODO a few years back but stopped using it a while ago. i just this and modo drum. good stuff. hope they do a modo guitar
Pretty cool VSTi.
Are there any 6/8 pat in free version.. Thnx 4 d nice review..
Yeah, brilliant. I got it.
Awesome!
this bass sounds goood
God bless you Sir
Is it compatible with image line FL studio ???

Any way of playing these sounds from a real bass guitar?
Estupendo trabajo

Why won't it let me use the free version? I can't find the serial number its talking about to activate the free version
Any way of downloading this vest without having to be online? I'm thinking no.
Is there a MODO guitar? I am dying for one!!! (Or tell me if there is a free electric guitar similar)
although this VST has been in my toolbox since version 1.0 (well the base one), it does have one thing that holds me back from using it in a daily basis: tuning (as in not just drop D, but freely tuning to any you want, open E/drop C/double drop, etc.)

Does anyone know how to stop the clipping when I press play there is a clipping noise , I’m using a mpc live 2
Wow, Im first 😮
Almost!
That rockabilly bass would be nice to hear. Can it sound like real slapbass? 😛👍
Theres really no accent better than British to do narrate things, just loved it
Can it do audio to midi like ezbass for input
Im experiencing some weird pumping effect like a medium or slow compressions and dunno how to fix it. Any ideas?
Yeah!
sounds awesome can I download this into reaper
it's not free?💀
The Lite version is.
Can it replicate trem picking or does it sound like arpeggiated digital nonsense? I'm trying to find a free bass VST decent for metal. But Im not sure that exists. 😞

Can it work on 32-bit? I use Windows
Always have issues with 1k products.
how to put it on fl studio?
does it chow down on CPU?
installation link not working
I dont know why, installing keeps failing :/
can it do down tuned bass?
You can change the number of strings from 4 to 5 or 6. There is also a "Drop" setting which tunes your lowest string down a whole tone.
nBeautiful tutorial
The big size is deterring me to install it..
Im trying 2 hours to install it but cant make it
Sadly this does not include 5 string basses
Actually it does. Go into the String section then change the Strings option to 5 by clicking it once.
Product Manager? No thanks!
Well... I wonder who would change every knob, every option! I think there's too much details they've done 😄🪕
I might :)
I tried today to download it, but it was IMPOSSIBLE. I dont.know what im doing wrong. 😢😢😢😢
Have you manage to download it since?
