  • The term ultimate driving machine has always been used by BMW, but the #CadillacCT5 has always been the American version of that phrase. The #CT5 traces its lineage to the #CadillacCTS from over 20 years ago and the latest model is still one of the best driving sport sedans on the market.

@@bobbowie9350 I kind of agree about the C pillar behind the rear door glass but it isn't as offensive to me anymore as it was when this car first debuted, especially in darker colors. Simplicity? Coming from the company that literally threw gaudy plastic chrome in all their interiors for the past few decades? They are selling u a bigger premium car at 3 series price so obviously corners were cut when doing the interior. This also doesn't sell anywhere as well as it's competitors so not as much budget/effort is put into the details. U go look at the new escalade and tell me that looks "simplistic". No the design, tech, and materials are far more impressive and actually competitive even with vehicles above its price range. U can obviously tell they spent more time and effort as it's one of their big sellers.

Nobles of the early Ottoman Empire preferred sofa beds because they lived a toilsomely active lifestyle. In the last days of the Ottoman Empire, they favored watching horse racing to pretend they were brave. Before the 1960s, Americans were physically prepared for war and spent their leisure time in hunting, so they needed the cushy and restful Fleetwood or Eldorado. Nowadays, the American elites favor the so-called "luxury sports cars," so to pretend they are into racecar driving.

A few corrections here = The fuel for this 3.0 TT is premium gasoline as a requirement NOT as a a recommendation, so those of you looking at this car, please keep that in mind. The 4 cylinder version of this car can burn either and premium is not required as it is in the 3.0 V6. The front grill dose have an air curtin intake toward the bottom of the grill - so there is some functionality, not just "looks". Also, the "these are not fog lights - they are an accent light when the headlights are on" is partially true. Yes, they are not fog lights. False that these are 'accent' lights. They are cornering lamps that turn on at low speeds when the turn signal is on and turning the steering wheel. These do not come on automatically when the headlights are on.
This is a great value for what you get. As stated in the video, this is a good competitor to others in the segment that cost thousands more. Maybe not as luxury, but this is more sport and performance than luxury. Good to see that Cadillac still makes a 'full size', RWD longitudal 'big engine' sedan. It has to after all; it's the only domestic offering of this type from any manufacture. Everything today is in cross-overs, SUV's and trucks. Like station wagons in the 60's, full size vans in the 70's, mini-vans in the 80's, big SUV's in the 90's and now cross-overs, each segment of vehicle comes and goes during the course of time - hopefully this will stick around for awhile.

@@LafemmebearMusic Well first you have to be willing to accept the fact that you’re wrong. The build quality of materials used in the CT5 are on par with its German rivals and the Koreans who wish to be them.
Soyfan, like other reviewers, will complain when a vehicle isn’t ultra luxuriously wrapped in stitched leather from head to toe. Well Cadillac kept their prices down and that’s why you see slightly less expensive materials mixed with higher end materials like the piece of plastic underneath the infotainment screen that’s designed not to show fingerprint. Cadillac prioritizes usability, conservativeness, comfort, and intuitive functionality over bling and attempting to be gaudy/flashy.
You would need to get out of the house and go test drive one and then you’d know why Soyfan _also_ choose this over the Genesis G70 it competes with last year during that head-to-head.

Great review as usual. I do agree that Cadillac needs to upgrade their interiors to feel a bit more luxurious. I currently drive a 2017 Buick LaCrosse that I bought new. Although not super luxurious, it does give a more luxury oriented feel than the current Cadillac, which is a shame. Honestly, I wish Buick had continued selling sedans here in the U.S. and had swiched over to the alpha platform with rear wheel drive. Adding the 3.0 twin turbo would have been a plus if they had decided to revive the old Buick "Wildcat" or "GS" or "Super" models. I'm ready to trade in my six year old LaCrosse, which incidentally never had even one problem for something newer. The 3.6 liter in the LaCrosse was quick. Spirited and lively. About 5.7 seconds to 60.
But the Cadillac CT5 is looking like something I'll be interested in upgrading to.
However, I think Cadillac has somewhat abandoned it's luxury roots, judging by the fact that they're difficult for their old customer base (senior citizens) to get in and out of. Seventy and Eighty year olds won't be able to easily slide out of the seats and get easy footing on the ground, or vice versa. But Cadillac does need to give the CT5 an interior that unmistakably
lets you know you're in a Cadillac as soon as you settle into the drivers seat! Gotta love the performance of the 3.0 twin turbo CT5!

I agree, I think the TLX also kinda competes in that space where you get the same amount of car but for the price of a size class below but similar in size to a 5 series, A6, G80 etc.. Then the Integra & CT4 are similar in size to 3 series or G70 for a couple grand less.

    • @lryoung17
      @lryoung17 Рік тому

@FacundoRolexRollsGonzalez You're not telling me anything I don't know. I'm going off of comments the reviewer made. I'm talking about the size you get for the money sir not why you feel like what doesn't compete with what. I've seen older people cross-shop the CT5 with the E class several times. They aren't cross-shopping it with the 3 series. It's the size of the vehicle it is quite a bit longer than a 3 series aside from the price which is the point I was making. Also, the CT4 is bigger than the vehicles it competes and it's built on the ATS platform so people will cross-shop them with bigger vehicles same with the TLX & Integra, this was purposely done to capture a wider shopping audience. Thank you for your opinion.

I do think GM has a valid point that this competes with the 3 series/A4/TLX/G70/C300 because of price. I prefer the size of the CT5, 5 series, A6, etc., but the prices on the imports gets painfully high with some options added on. The 4 cylinder versions of the other cars are good for the budget minded. However, the 4 cylinder CT5 is awful. Just drove the 6 cylinder CT5-V and it is a huge improvement. So in other words, Cadillac knows this market *better* than Genesis. I can’t say I’m shocked. 😂
Too many reviewers push the narrative that if you’re not ultra and gaudy in terms of luxury that you’re failing. Sales numbers would beg to differ. The reality is not everyone has the same priorities - and that’s why reviewers should stop forcing their personal preferences into viewers.
The build quality is great. The technology is top tier, and the intuitiveness of the interiors make them a WIN compared to the CTS of yesteryear. Cadillac may add more luxury later, but they will never be the wannabe Mercedes-Benz alternative which Genesis has become. Genesis is becoming the new Lincoln - an old man’s brand. That’s usually what I see driving the G80 around and it’s fitting.
Cadillac builds products for *all demographics* to find a happy place somewhere within the lineup and you can be 16 or 60 and look at home in a CT5. *Timeless design.*

Other than the seats which don't look very supportive for enthusiastic driving, I'm not really seeing the cost cutting and sub par build quality in the interior? I mean there is nothing about it that's unique or has a "wow factor" like Mercedes and such, but sometimes simple, attractive and functional is what you want, and this seems to fit the bill. I even like the body styling as well, but once again...no wow factor and pretty much looks like what Caddy has been doing for a while now. I've never been a Caddy fan, but this thing has a great powertrain and suspension...meaning if the price difference vs the competition is significant, this would definitely be something to at least test drive for someone looking for a midsize sports sedan. Since I live near the Toyota headquarters (and Toyota/Lexus has always been popular down here) I see tons of IS, LS etc as well as Acura, BMW and Mercs everywhere...this would actually be a unique choice. I've been shopping this category for a new car for my wife and we've been very impressed with the CT5 but my only major complaints are the base 2.0L is not nearly enough power for a car this size and price and that the 3.0L is not available with the sport trim which I prefer over the luxury premium trim. Seems odd that GM has the 325hp 2.7L in its engine line up but doesn't use it as the base engine or at least as an option on the CT5. The 3.0 is a smoother quieter engine but the 2.7 is probably lighter, cheaper and would have similar performance and likely better mileage.

I just don't get how Cadillac designers thought this interior was appropriate. I can't think of another car in this class that has a worse environment. The thing with this class is it is all about comfort and luxury. A Chevy-grade interior just isn't going to cut it. That said, in terms of performance, this may be one of the best bangs for dollar. It undercuts the 540i and especially the E53 considerably, and even manages to outperform and undercut the Genesis. And that is before you even get into the even better V6-grade V-Series.

I guess you just have to decide whether the clearly superior luxury experience available in the Genesis and German competitors is worth that extra cash. I think I could live with the discount interior to get the V6 experience.

From the front Genesis appear to be *unfinished* with their Cadillac crest shaped grilles. Lol.
