    The #1 question I get asked (that I also used to ask) is, "What's the strumming pattern?"
    Here I have went through 7 strumming options that are easy to do that you can apply to songs you hear or write.
    1. Slow Strum
    2. Muted Strings (for faster songs)
    3. Emphasize the first chord
    4. Slap chord. (has a drum sound) great for faster songs or switching up a song)
    5. Pick the individuals strings for each chord
    6. Bass strum
    7. Hammering on notes during the chords

    I just have to say I am really enjoying your channel and lessons. I am VERY thankful for good teaching on youtube that I most likely would not have been able to get any other way. I'm thankful for the opportunity to be able to learn guitar, and on top of that to learn to worship music, and also to hear your Godly encouragement! Thank you! I feel the reality, unity and depth of the body of Christ in things like this. (I also love that you do of country songs!) So thank you very much. What you do is very appreciated. Keep giving glory to the Lord. He is worthy to be praised! God bless you! .... ps I just noticed that you have some help for vocal too! :D yay!

    This was a fantastic video! I am always getting stuck on the same strumming pattern and this really helped me. I knew most of them, but a lot of times I don't think to use them so it was still very helpful. I love your guitar, I think taylors are neck and neck with martins.

    @hello25ification i'm playing the G and C chord (the way i play them) and i am doing (D, D, U, U, D, U then switch.) basically if you listen to the Billy Ray cyrus song "Could've been me" it's the intro he does on that song. It does have a cool sound

    hey Sam, you strum all the strings on just the G chord, do all the strings but the top one for the C and Em chords and for the D chord strum the bottom 4.

  • @acousticselection
    @acousticselection  12 років тому

    @todd777ification hey...a lot depends on the kind of music you want to play. I prefer more of a flimsy pick (not really flimsy though) The stiffer the pick the easier it is for picking and the flimsier the easier it is for strumming.

  • @acousticselection
    @acousticselection  11 років тому

    hmmm..i actually get asked that a lot and my answer is always just make sure you play it before you buy it. I like the thought of even buying a good used one from a guitar center or some store like that. Don't buy one that's in a box or something you can't play. Some cheaper guitars can have a great sound and some expensive guitars can sound choppy...the key is to play it first and find one that's in your budget that has a sound that you like. Buying good strings is important too. (I like elixir

    tell me this,...have you watched all my strumming videos? i have a section on strumming on my homepage where i go over all kinds of different things. I would recommend strumming the strings further back on the guitar also. Make sure you master the basics before getting more advanced. Start with a flexible pick and just do down strums. Next do 3 down strums and 1 down/up then switch. Let me know if you can do that. hope this helps.

    Hi Matt, love your tutorials!! they are like no other on youtube. so can you do a video on this please...i feel after 3 years i still despite progressing so much and being able to do so many things barre chords included and so much more that i still struggle with my right hand technique in that i feel perhaps my hand is too close to strings because my up strums hit the strings or get stuck once in awhile, i think my pick also may be too far in towards strings maybe i really do try to angel pick going both ways and that really helps but i don;t feel completely relaxed and smooth with the mechanics of my right hand and it's so frustrating bc i feel it's an obstacle that unless i overcome it will inhibit me potentially growing as a guitarist its a hurdle still. some days i feel great and others just feel that there's something missing between my pick and string relationship if you will. help lol

  • @acousticselection
    @acousticselection  12 років тому

    I think the most basic would be just doing the down strumming and then do a quick down/up strum before you change to the next chord. But it really all depends on the song. I usually just start out all down strums until i get the timing down better.

    it's basically 2 beats per chord before the change..i do the palm mute and just chop down on the strings for 4 down strums and then change..but it's 2 beats until the change. hope that makes sense
