You need to have both the top buttons out when you start. The middle button dictates the time for pulling the shot, The top button is the steam. Do your coffee first, push the middle button to stop the shot, then push the top button in to activate the steam. When the yellow light comes on, then steam your milk. There's a lot more to it, but you need to watch the uTube videos!

Hi, I've just purchased one of these machines; it says in the manual that "there may be noise when pumping the machine for the first time. This is normal, as the appliance is releasing the air in the system. After about 20 seconds the noise will disappear." Except that the noise hasn't disappear - it has not even got slightly quieter.
Can you please advise? I've tried contacting Swan, but for any problems their online advice is to return it to the vendor (and there doesn't seem to be any means of actually speaking to anyone in what they humorously call their customer service department!) , and if there's a quick fix I'd rather do that myself.
    Thanks.

It makes the same sound as the Tasimo coffee machine so I think that is normal?

I’m probably commenting too late since it’s been 6 months, but that noise is perfectly normal. It’s just the water pump, all domestic espresso machines make the same noise.
The manual is right to say you should run it without coffee the first time out of the box to get the air out so it doesn’t sputter, but it will always make noise.
