If you see the actual live video of Edge of 17 you’d see why it was extended….towards the end she goes out to the edge of the stage and collects all the flowers and gifts and shakes hands with her audience.
You are missing out if you don't watch the official video, shot during her live performance: Stevie's stage presence is electric; it was the closing track of her solo concert, and I won't spoil the surprise, but watch all the way through the end so you don't miss it!!
Thats the fabulous Waddy Wachtel on guitar. Top-tier, “first call” LA studio player and touring guitarist. He’s been working with Nicks for 40 years and when’s she’s out on tour, he is her road manager and guitarist and great friend. They are tight. Waddy came up with that iconic guitar riff, which powers the song. He’s a bit rueful about it now because it’s so hard on his wrist to keep it up for 10 minutes. He has to get his right arm in shape for weeks before a tour in order to do this. Waddy, now in his 70’s is still top LA studio guy. He’s in studio right now on some Barbra Streisand tracks. He was also Keith Richards rhythm guitarist in Keith’s side-project “The XPensive Winos”…a great blues rock jam band. And tight with Warren Zevon. Waddy has had a fantastic career, on thousands of albums, and is a total character. Funny as hell.
He's part of a group of studio musicians called the Immediate Family. They're kind of like the next generation Wrecking Crew. In fact there is a film about them done by Denny Tedesco who did the Wrecking Crew film.
@@user-ph9wt3ue7c great minds and all. Look down the thread…i mention the same thing. I think I’ve watched that documentary 8 times. Such different personalities but all mesh together well. I have a hard time imagining Russ in Spinal Tap. Hell, it’s hard to imagine Russ with HAIR. if you’ve never watched it, there is a great video on UA-cam from a couple of years ago of Russ, Lee, Waddy, Joe Walsh and Ringo in the studio riffing free form on Funk 49. @@joankisloski6972 WOW…. Had no idea! You would have thought that might have been mentioned in the documentary The Immediate Family when they profiled each member. Great factoid….and says allot about Russ and his wife.
I count myself as very lucky having seen Stevie Nicks live solo at her peak, with an incredible band. Edge of Seventeen is a work of freaking genius. So glad you are covering her
Lee33 It just doesn't get any better than this! Stevie Nicks is a genre unto herself, and the musicians who form the bones of her songs are magicians in their own right. We had it all back in the day, and assumed the quality would go on indefinitely.
I was 6 back in 1976 when I first heard Stevie Nicks. I had no idea what attraction, love, lust, or fantasy were about yet, but I knew that voice spoke directly to me. I developed a crush on here since 1st grade. I still melt every time I hear a solo or Mac song. My favorite song of hers (solo) is SLEEPING ANGEL, (Fast Times at Ridgemont high soundtrack.)
Sharon Cellani is the secondary back-up vocalist you hear . She's been part of Stevie's back-up vocalist from her start as a solo artist . This is an easily found video on youtube from an HBO special of Stevie from her 1st solo tour .
Russ Kunkel, Waddy Wachtel, Leland (Lee) Sklar (bassist extraordinaire) and Danny (Kootch) Kortchmar (guitarist). Were called “The Section” in LA studio golden days in the 70’s and into the 80’s, gradually taking over from the Wrecking Crew as the on-call guys for thousands of projects. They are a tight “band of brothers”. There is a fantastic documentary out on them and their history, released last year called The Immediate Family, done by the same director who did the Wrecking Crew, Denny Tedesco. You can see the thousands of albums they worked on. Impressive snd rewarding careers, all of them.
Some good one there! Thanks Joel, and Lee! I've been meaning to request Big Love by Lindsey Buckingham. One has to wonder why his fingers weren't bleeding after that. Love Stevie Niks.
The best Live version of “Edge of Seventeen” is on the Crystal Visions album. Was from a concert with the Melbourne symphony in 2006. It has a great jam session in the middle of it. I’ve seen video of it, and I don’t know whether you have already watched it or not.
Lee, this is the "second live version" you have done of Stevie Nicks song "Stand back", when are you going to play the "original recorded version and music video" of 'Stand back" like I thought you said you were going to react too?? Just wondering..
Thank you, Lee and Joel, for Edge of Seventeen. What a beautiful performance.

Besides all the other great things in Edge of seventeen , the bass playing is out of this world.

Yes it was Russ Kunkel. When Cass Elliot ( The Mamas & The Papas) died in 1974, Russ and Leah Kunkel took Cass's daughter and raised her.

One of the great singer/songwriters of our time. From Buckingham/Nicks, through Fleetwood Mac, and her solo career. She's the Gypsy.
In the recorded version Stevie sings the higher notes, the backup singers take the lead on tour. Listen to both.

I saw Stevie Nick's years ago in Vegas and Fleetwood Mac in the 70's. Such great music.
Fabulous sounding harmony &🎸💕
Yeah, she has such a unique voice and she sure knows how to sing a note or two!

Two great keyboardists with Benmont Tench from The Heartbreakers, and Professor Roy Bitan from The E Street Band. ✌🏼😎🇺🇸
According to wiki, it is Kunkel on drums. Benmont Tench on keys
Both songs? Yes, on the live. Kunkel toured with Stevie. Pecaro on studio I think
Great songs from the amazing Stevie Nicks
