    Faker debuted in 2013 and won worlds that same year. Since then there has never been anyone more impressive and dominant as a rookie player, not to mention as a player in general. He then won in 2015, 2016, and now 2023. His single Zed play against Ryu in 2013 started and fueled a generation of not just league gamers but gamers in general. Faker is not just league, he IS Esports. Faker is the most influential gaming athlete not just in terms of how good he was but of how much he did for the sport. He put Esports on the map, on the big stage. He IS the Michael Jordan of Esports and imo top 5 best athlete to ever lived when it's all said and done with his career. You ask who's next? Who can top faker? Well honestly, no one. No one after Faker has done what he has done especially in league specifically. There are many great players left to add, but none has gotten close to what he has done. There's a reason why everyone in Korea knows about him, people who don't play games at all, has heard of him. We cannot say the same for other player as their fandom and accolades have never reached people outside of the sport, let alone the whole country.

      Chovy has won every lck consecutively since 2022 summer, 4 in a row something faker never did, will almost definetly be 5 in a row after this upcomming lck.
      Since they won MSI, GenG will be the first Golden Road winners in history if they win worlds this year. which looks even more likely by looking at the state of LPL teams.
      Chovy is also just 23 years old, 5 years younger than faker. Chovy has also won Gold for Korea at the asian games, meaning he never has to enlist in the military.
      unless Chovy falls off massively its looking very likely he will equal faker one day. (looking at ingame dominance only) i agree its likely no one will ever rival Faker in Cultural impact and popularity
      if Faker is MJ, Chovy is Lebron

      @@Kim-ki4jf one thing he hasn't done is win worlds which is much harder to do due to changing metas and strategy from different regions clashing. He has consistently not been able to carry his team in those situations. Although I agree he is really good due to that I don't think I can compare him to even LeBron. I would rather compare him to someone like James Harden in his prime, one of the best offensive players ever but has never won a ring. There's very little chance he can win 4 world's like Faker and Faker did it in his rookie season and had already won 3 before he was 23, not to mention he was the MVP for every single world's he won. Although the game was much easier than it is now back then, Faker played the game like it was 2020 in 2013, it's like he was a challenger playing in plat lobbies. So that argument doesnt work, he was way too ahead of his time. Even just talking overall pure game dominance stats chovy is not close to Faker if you really look at it. Everyone agrees Chovy or individually some players may be insanely good but track record wise dominance and all, no one has done what Faker has done or will do. Not even close, hence there's no lebron or even a kobe yet.

      @@xerodight2057 I kind of don’t regard his first worlds wins the same as recent ones because of how much improvement in gameplay has been made in under a decade. And i don’t expect chovy to win 4 worlds to rival faker in dominance. The same way no one thinks MJ is a bum for “only” winning 6 rings when Bill russel won 11. They were easier to win back then and I think that comparison applies to league of legends.
      Not to mention playing on T1 in 2014 is like being on the prime gs warriors if they didn’t have any salary cap. The E-sport org economy is way more balanced since the esports boom when institutional investors flowed in. Making rosters more competitive over time.
      Sure the Lebron analogy doesn’t work yet when you compare current accolades, however Chovy still looks like faker kryptonite when they play against each other. Chovy and notably Doran had a tendency to choke at internationals in the past but in the lck chovy almost Always beats faker, if they don’t break up this GenG roster chovy will easily breeze past 10 lck titles.
      Winning worlds this year is obviously a big hypothetical, but if they win the first Golden road the same year they completed a world first 4x back to back lck championships I think it’s a strong argument to call him a close option.
      I guess what I meant was if faker is MJ, chovy could become Lebron, granted he wins a golden road or 2-3x worlds in the 6 or so years he has left if he plays as long as faker, also why I mentioned he has military service pardon from south koreas government for his gold medal

This is not a comparison between MJ and Lebron because Faker has both MJ prime and Lebron longevity.

    I discovered League through Faker, back in 2014.
    I don't even know HOW, but I stumbled upon some korean guy streaming. I didn't understand aaanything about the gameplay nor the language ! But I could feel how impressive he was.
    I kept watching... I installed league... I followed him. 10 years.
    He is not only extremely good at the game, he is so humble, always nice. It is an honor for the whole community that our icon is such a beautiful human being. Such a hardworking, respectful, loyal guy.
    So yeah, even if it's supposedly easy to support such a victorious team, before anything I am a Faker fan, and by extension a T1 fan. I will keep supporting him and his teammates, even through their hard times. It goes way back ! They deserve it.

    Faker's born in 1996 and has roughly 6(Oner, Gumayusi, Keria all born in 2002) and 8(Zeus 2004) year age gap from the current members. I also recommend checking out Faker: The Numbers and Faker: The Plays! One thing that I know with teams in league is that the roster constantly changes, it's quite unusual to see the same roster re-signing for more than a year. T1's current roster has been the same since 2022, and actually there were heavy speculations that 2023 would be the last year that roster might stay together especially if they failed to win Worlds 2023. As much as their 2023 worlds run was exhilarating, it was also emotional.
    I also think that the next inductee should be Ruler, he has been sooo consistent throughout the years and continues to be one of The Best ADC up to this day.

    • @jagonz70580
      @jagonz70580 6 місяців тому +1

      Technically, the ZOFGK roster has been together since 2021 (2020 if you count Keria's signing to the team in November 2020), but oddly enough, they have not all played together in an official game (you had one job, Daeny!). Oner and Gumayusi started out as subs but eventually moved to the starter position, while Zeus remained as Canna's sub in 2021 and didn't become the starter toplaner until Canna left the team.
      So yeah... while ZOFGK played their first game together as a team in 2022 and became T1's main and only roster for their tier 1 LOL team, the players themselves have been together in the same team since 2021. It's truly unprecedented for a LOL team to stay this long together.

    about you thinking faker's current t1 roster will be dominant... they have the potential. so much of it. imo they're the most talented on paper if everyone got to play the best version of themself all the time. but they somehow almost always fall at the final hurdle. this roster - zeus (2004), oner (2002), faker (1996), gumayusi (2002), keria (2002) - since they started playing together in spring 2022, have went to 9 finals (out of a possible 11 that have been played in pro play so far) and the other 2 times they've reached the semi-finals, aka they have never finished below 3rd place in neither regional or international competition. that's absolutely wild. the sad thing is, they have a 2nd place curse on them....
    (2022 - spring 1st, msi 2nd, summer 2nd, worlds 2nd;
    2023 - spring 2nd, msi 3rd, summer 2nd, worlds 1st;
    2024 - spring 2nd, msi 3rd)
    they are probably one of the most consistent rosters of all time, and one of the most longstanding rosters of all time too, because the same 5 players staying together for 3 years is almost, if not completely unheard of in league of legends pro play. i just wish they could get more rewarded for their efforts. there is a team in korea called gen g, who keeps beating them regionally. i call them the anti t1 because honestly, if they weren't there, t1 would sweep their region every year. however, that team is like the antithesis of t1 - gen g is stable, insane macro, robotic almost in their approach and very straightforward going for the win, "by the book" is their best description, they will take objectives 1 by 1, won't really take many instinctual risks to end early, but just run by the book; on the other hand, t1 is more erratic, domineering, hunting for your mistakes and using them to snowball the game out of your control until they crush you; t1 stomps if you're weaker than them are as famous as they're fun to watch because they can be that good; a coach from another team in their league said recently that t1 is harder to play against than gen g because with gen g, they just dominate you and that's it, but with t1, they violate your human rights, and if you don't fight back, they completely violate you to the very end. t1 hunt mistakes... the issue is, gen g don't make many of those. they counter t1's playstyle almost perfectly. fate is just not allowing t1 to win more for some reason, even though everyone knows they deserve it. they are not only really good, but one of the most fun teams to watch playstyle wise in the world too (for me, the most fun). i hope they stay together for even longer. 1 year contracts are common in league, but they did re-sign last year when the odds were they wouldn't, so i hope they keep denying those odds and that it eventually pays off for them with some titles.
    you also asked if faker is quitting any time soon, i think probably not. the only thing messing with him is his injury, also mentioned in this video, it's something called cubital tunnel i think, and it's not really curable, just manageable, but it flares up from time to time (it did again this year at msi - some people say one of faker's worst overall performances at an international - t1 still came in 3rd and faker still had incredible plays). faker keeps getting asked when he plans on retiring, and his most common response is that it's when he stops learning, so not anytime soon because he always learns something new and keeps on working on improving every game, and every tournament. very admirable. so hopefully, it will still be many years before he retires. he is still one of the best players in the world in his 11th year and his team is constantly challenging for titles at every tournament, his gameplay definitely does not call for retirement like it usually would for older players hahah.

    There is this commentry during a worlds game, it was T1 vs G2 or I'm not sure which LEC/LCS team it was, it was definitely a western team. T1 crushed them, and was moving in to finish the game and the caster just goes: 'When you're in this dire a situation, you can only pray to god. But he is playing for the enemy team'. And that literally sent chills down my spine.
    In hindsight, the expectations on Faker are like, either win a Worlds trophy or you are washed. He has consistently been the top 4 in the world for 11 years!!! That's absolutely mind blowing considering how quickly and often league as an esports change. From the mechanics, to macro, everything is ever changing and to be able to keep up and still consistently be at the top and you're still only expected to win.

    The Unkillable Demon King thing I remember being an article about Faker from ESPN that called him that. It was a pretty big thing in the Western Community because it was the first time big new or sports covered anything League related. There was also a movement going on at the time where a lot of people wanted to start viewing pro gamers more like athletes because they do physically and mentally push themselves for top level competition. He was one of the Few people would agree especially for not being an Esports Player could Rival him in Skill, Versatility, and possibly Creativity. I know for a fact he has beaten him in Lane with more consistency then any other Queue Player could boast in High Elo. I think just like Faker if I remember correctly he wasn't just Flexible Mid Lane but could Lane Anywhere with Practically Anyone. He just chose his Best Stuff to Climb. But would BS around with Off Meta stuff too if I remember correctly.

    to clarify the reason that he started to play ranked is because his Normal mode MMR was so high that he was unable to find games at all so he was forced to join the ranked ladder essentially lol

    The 2nd inductee IMO is gonna be Ambition, legendary Mid laner, then Jungler with the team that ended SKT dynasty

    Never heard of faker until now. I was in the era of HotshotGG, and I still consider him to be the most influential of all time. He may not have been top dog 24/7 like some players, but he was the most fun to watch. League has deteriorated into a more serious "esport" of sorts and I don't like it. I don't even watch league anymore.

    "is 2016 the first time he won worlds ?" So you are not watching the video and absorbing all information being given to you. I can not tell you how frustrating this is. And even after that, when faker won in 2016, the commentator said it was his third worlds win, YOU STILL DIDNT PICK UP ON IT because you were talking. I turned the vid off after that, fucking unwatchable.
