You need Worlds 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022, and 2023 for the whole story lol. An insane amount of narratives and history, all colliding and interacting at once. Throw in 2019 just for Crisp making it to finals, 2020 if you want to play up the chance DK might have had going into 2023 worlds. Id say you need to account for every Worlds that mattered except for 2021 to really get a full picture of all the emotions going on, and then also really pay attention to 2023 happening in Korea vs 2018 in Korea. Also the modern T1 rosters many second place finishes, and everything about T1s 2023 summer performance. Both very important aspects. How the hell does T1 go into a worlds looking like borderline underdogs and come out of it leaving no room for argument that every member of that team should always be in contention for best in the world in their role
I just noticed, TheShy said “the first trophy… the second trophy…” and then Faker said “the third trophy… and the fourth trophy…” what a script masterpiece
Before the finals, "All roads lead to me" was my favorite line. After T1 won the championship, however, that last line just hit harder and harder: For a long time, I have watched the rise and fall of many teams, but the player who stood at the end was always me". There were surely some teams and players that looked unstoppable throughout the past decade, but where are they now? And then there's Faker...
Not only did we get one of the coldest lines in esports history, but one of the best casting calls ever. This worlds was undoubtedly my favorite in terms of production since 2019.
This is one of the realest comments ever. It's true though! This year, the production and the casting together made it much better at teasing for the match.
@@billyjoe8185 Drakos' line last year for DRX vs GEN was insane too "The last dance goes on, the stage is set, there's one final chapter there's one more page in the legacy of Deft..."
That T1 vs JDG teaser is probably the best esports teaser/promo vid thats ever been produced. I dont know how it gets topped. The narrative of the swiss teaser, to the JDG T1 teaser, to the finals teaser is like unbeatable. What the fuck do you mean they said theyd be the ones to stop the golden road, and then they did. What do you mean he said he'd crush Ruler, AND THEN HE DID. What do you mean T1 went into a Worlds as the underdogs, and then every single member of their roster proceeded to play like they were the best in the world at their role.
That swiss teaser just hits different at the end. The coldest lines are all in the T1 - JDG teaser, but that TRANSITION. It's just this one little moment of a 5 minute video that carries almost 10 years of context. All in a matter of seconds - its perfection
The symbolism is just incredible! Faker, seated on the emperor's throne in the Swiss stage teaser, while the Irworobongdo (depicting the sun, moon, and five peaks) behind him slowly fades as he steps forward in the semi-finals. It's like witnessing Faker as the undisputed king of esports, simultaneously serving as the ultimate challenge for Ruler and JDG, who are eyeing the throne. It's a masterpiece, perfectly weaving in Korean cultural elements and making it universally captivating. Phil's storytelling and direction are truly extraordinary, creating a narrative that transcends boundaries and offers an amazing eye into Korean culture. Absolutely mind-blowing.
Gumayusi said that a lot of the lines they say in the teasers are written by the writers, but that he tries to come up with his own lines when he films the teasers. I think the line about crushing Ruler is something Gumayusi came up with, and all the other lines including Faker's were written by the writers.
Gumayusi did say this. One of the writers also said that Gumayusi already created the revenge arc for Faker against Ruler if GenG, went to Finals in 2022, which was scrapped because drx went to finals. He was also the one who created the line “The Movie is Over.” During the 2022 Finals teaser. He also did one for the 2023 Finals, something about turning off the Lights (he was against Light), but did not make it due to it being unfit.
Comparing "I'll snap you back to reality" and "All roads lead to me" is just not fair. One is thrash talk, the other encompasses more than 1 series, it's the entirety of his career. So not a fair comparison. Maybe if we compare "I'll snap you back to reality" and "I'm not gonna stop him, I'm gonna crush him" :p

I think the reason why teasers this year were good was because it was done in Korea. If you notice, Riot has really great production when it's done in Asia, especially in Japan or Korea.
