The most recent (and possibly final) addition to the “Faker blocking Deft from reaching worlds” story came this year when T1 qualified to worlds at their last chance qualifier in the tiebreak match against KT. Then going on to win worlds as 4th seed just like DRX did is a crazy parallel between the two players.
Edit: That last deft quote made me cry.

When Keria was crying after losing the finals, he was probably thinking about how he initially wanted to go WITH Deft and could have been on his team instead of having to face him. Deft convinced him to go with T1 because they were the "better" choice, but then T1 loses to Deft's new team. That had to be absolutely devastating for Keria, being pushed to step away from his friend in favor of a "better career" only for that same friend to beat his new team at the finals. Fortunately that story has a happy ending too.

@@kevinfang8600 Kingen and Zeka pulled off some of the most amazing games for the years to come. Every T1 worlds win after that was basically what they learned from the 2022 worlds final. Zeus practiced to 1v9 on Aatrox in 2023. Faker practiced to 1v9 on Sylas, Keria finally brought up the courage to showcase his 1v9 Bard, while Gumayusi and Oner practiced to be the unbreakable rock on T1's side. Just like Deft and Pyosik who was always beat by players like Canyon and yet stepped tf up when the chips were down. DWG may have revitalized the LCK's hopes of winning Worlds but it was DRX 2022 that showed the world that you can win as long as you resiliently keep fighting for it till the end instead of surrendering all hopes just because the other team is "a favorite to win" or "the higher seed" or "stomped you in scrims"

I find works like this documentary are a major component of what e-sports sometimes seem to lack. These teams developed by companies as marketing schemes are very hard for people to invest in them and create stories. This documentary however is appealing and is understood to someone even if they haven't played a day of league. It is a representation of the human condition that only sports combined with storytelling can deliver. When people's wants and desires collide in a way, in an environment, of mutual competition driving everyone to be their better self. These stories remind us of what it means to be human and this is exactly what many amongst us today need to be reminded of

I agree 100%. I'm very much a casual viewer of league but these documentaries are very intriguing to me as they display the more personal side of the players' pursuit for victory. My favorite documentary has to be the one he did called The Player That Saved League about Khan. Idek who Khan was until I watched it but I was in tears by the end it was just such a moving story of a player's whole career and the affect they had on league.

I love this 5 part documentary, I love GBay, and I'm a fan of a lot of traditional sports but also esports. With that said, I'm sorry but I 100% disagree.
The story that this documentary covered wasn't some obscure tale. Anyone who tuned into Worlds and watched the matches would know about this story. Both the analyst desk and the casters acknowledge and bring up a lot of the narrative points that are shown in this video.
It isn't documentaries like these that esports is lacking to be able to be marketable to the mainstream, it's the fact that the games of esports itself isn't mainstream. There's little that marketing can do to get a person attached to a team when they aren't even attached to the game itself. It's easy for people to be attached to basketball or football or baseball teams because they know how to play or atleast have watched their friends play it even when they were younger. The vast majority of people cannot say the same when it comes to a game like League of Legends.
Your sentiment and appreciation towards this documentary is beautiful and appreciated I'm sure, but it's just off the mark imho.

Easier to root for Lebron when you know how difficult it is to play basketball, harder to root for Deft when all it looks like is young adults playing games.

The reverse sweep vs edg was only the second in worlds history and they were the first(and most likely only) play-ins team to not only make it to finals but to also win the championship. And they did it through all the crazy stuff that happened in the event, the inhib respawn, having a terrible early game 2 to geng, having a total of 3 barons stolen in the finals. And still bouncing back every single time. Now THAT is true mental fortitude

As a T1 fan, I'm sad that it came at T1's loss, but I'm glad Deft finally won one. Keria kept his promise in the end, though probably not in the way he imagined.
In hindsight, seeing all the Worlds winning T1 has done, I'm glad they lost to the underdog DRX. They were feeling cocky going into the finals and this loss was truly a humbling moment to the younger T1 players. Definitely strengthened their mental and they learned not to underestimate their opponents. This led to a sweep of the 4th seed Weibo last year and their clutch victory over BLG despite such a shaky year.

I love hearing the surrounding context between all the players that comes from researching all the interviews and what not. I remember watching this tournament live and every time DRX played, I remembered Zeka putting on MVP performance after performance. One of the best individual tournaments from any player in the history of LoL. Going up against Knight in groups, Scout in quarters, Chovy in semis, and Faker in finals. And he truly stood above the rest and outperformed them all. I'll never forget it and it's beautiful to witness a player as young as he is break into the established pantheon of mid laners that exists in international LoL.
Each player on the team helped Deft reach his final goal. Kingen won finals MVP and nullified Zeus, Pyosik had a million objective steals throughout the tournament even if Finals was the other way around, Zeka became the best mid laner at the tournament, and Beryl had such whacky and unique answers to the weird support meta that Worlds with things like Heimerdinger. What an amazing team to follow.

Zeka also beat Vicla and Clozer on regional qualifiers, both being seeing as next great gen of LCK midlaners and being way more valued at time than Zeka.
Zeka also dominated Xiahou on plays-ins. Truely every big mid he had it in his bag.

DRX vs T1 was genuinely one of the best worlds finals we have ever seen. The story. The rivalry. Deft's personality. The underdog team and how hard they fought, it was just all incredible and I've never felt such emotion watching a finals before or since. As a long time Deft fan, watching him fail and fail again, from EDG, to that gut wrenching game 5 series on KT, to the first worlds on DRX having to face DWG, finally witnessing him win it all especially in person as I was fortunate enough to attend finals, this whole doc did his story incredible justice. He is truly an inspiration and proof of how important an unbreakable spirit is. I really thought after that series against IG in 2018 "Will he really ever get a chance like this again?" but he made it happen on a team doubted all year. Holy hell, Gbay. The quality of this production and your ability to tell stories is professional to no end. You got a lot of tears out of me having seen Deft's story for the first time. I kept up with 2016-2018 worlds, but really not any further than that... what an amazing man and player. Deft has a heart of gold that is so, so pure and so determined. Bless his heart for everything that he went through and all he did to achieve in his last dance. The fact that he was still having fun, smiling, and even crying on stage as to how much this meant to him while still being able to play the best of his best is awe-inspiring. What an absolute hero.. unreal.
Gbay, I encourage you to go and contact Riot. Ask them to host your documentaries somewhere. Even if you wouldn't get paid for it (I'd hope so, but you know), more people should see what you've put out here. I'm unsure if they've already endorsed your content on social media, but if that isn't the case, putting your content on the page of Riot is a pedestal well deserved. Thank you for this series. It's been an insane ride to watch this whole thing through and root for a man I'd only heard of in passing beforehand. Your underdog stories are just legendary.
I'll see you guys again in ten years when I watch this whole thing over and cry a second time over too. Cheers for your career, Deft, and cheers to the memories, Gbay. Fantastic work. :)

Personally, I think Worlds 2022 was and will be the best worlds ever. The storylines were amazing. The failed back door by Deft to turning the game around. All the baron steals in the Finals, and Cadrel's iconic call. While a NA or EU team winning for me might feel better, I would find it hard for it to be objectively better than 2022. Being there in person for quarterfinals was an experience I will never forget. Seeing Deft's speech live on his birthday was unforgettable.

I loved Worlds 22 even though my favorite team in the tournament (Rogue) ended up losing in quarterfinals but I was happy since they won the LEC(I seriously cried when they won the LEC). But, to see my favorite korean org successfully winning worlds with a player I love due to his charisma outside the game thanks to his celebrations of imitating a champion and becoming a pro player just to get a Kindred skin? Sign me up, I know this documentary is about Deft and his path to finally conquering Worlds but DRX 22 is one of the most charismatic teams thanks to its members and, specially, their mental fortitude. Nevertheless, I did spent a lot of money in getting the DRX bundle with the signed icons.

Love your LoL documentary series! If I really had to nitpick, I think you could have done the final series more justice! The amount of steals that kept those games close, skirmishes that saw individuals from DRX stepping up, and not just them, how T1 seemed to be always getting a punch in when put behind, culminating as imo, not just the best world finals, but the best worlds yet. The music, the storyline, and the history behind all those players. I also really liked the focus on Deft's full journey, and his personality, pushing his teammates to go to better environments for their careers, not withholding his experience from any of them, and the miraculous yet seemingly fated run against all of those ex teammates and friends.
