I remember eating at St Louis Drive In all the time back in high school as I went to St Louis and this was right across the street. We had to sneak off campus before I was a Senior to go eat there. The teriyaki beef plate lunch was off the hook. Thanks for sharing all the great food places of old and new. Left the islands 40 years ago but you guys bring all the good memories back.
I currently live in Oregon but I grew up in Palolo, so this video was very nostalgic for me! I cannot wait to revisit some of these places the next time I'm home. Love your videos! :)

Yesssssss, my memories go back to the late 60s...an "older" gentleman , corner of 9th Ave? He had a towel strung around his neck. I was there for college. By lunchtime I was craving HIS. sandwiches n thin fries.
Been watching you for a while.I was born and raised on Oahu, now residing in Alabama since 2010. My whole family is here, helping with grandkids we will help and follow them till the ends of the earth.we love their twangy Southern accents and they get a kick out of our accents😁🤣win win.

Enjoyed this episode, brings back memories of St. Louis Drive In. Decades ago I ate there a lot, teriyaki combo plates were my thing. Those Shrimp Tempura look really good. Mahalo and Aloha.

I love St. Louis Drive Inn. When my baby sister went to UH Manoa and after visiting her in her dorm. I would try to get my Teri plate fix from there when I had a chance...soooo good!! I miss home, thanks for sharing. 🤙

My husband and I enjoy your honest reviews and we especially love it when Yvonne joins your meals and gives her opinion. We know it’s not possible to go out with Yvonne to one of her favorites places so would love an episode on a few of her recommended places. We subscribed and watched before our trip last February and went to a few of the places and we r planning on visiting Oahu next February and will plan on eating at a few more you have shown. You have literally planned my menu this week. We hit Rainbows, Queen st, Ice Garden, Off the hook, Itchy Butt, and now going to hit St Louis tomorrow on our last day here. Super bummed you don't have doppelgangers that live on Maui so we could do the same next week. BTW we love the location and food choice tags. You need to add the Restaurants names in the tags or in the descriptions for easier reference. Love your videos. OH MAN is my kids new favorite way to describe good food.

W&M is classic. It is my classmate’s family’s restaurant. He is the current generational owner, although he isn’t the one running things on a daily basis. Somehow he got his wife to run it now while he works as a pharmacist. Sad to say I have known Walt since kindergarten but I haven’t been to W&M yet…

Geeeezzzzz W&M another gem in the wall that was right under my nose, and I never bothered to check out, man do I feel like and idiot sometimes. My wife was going to Chaminade "waaaay back when" I use to drive past this place almost daily for a few years and never bothered to go....Mahalo's yet again Amanda & Felix for exposing me to this gem....it's on my gotta check-out schedule. And of-course St Louis Drive in is a must for us Chaminade types....

Everything looked so ono. Good to know about W&M and St. Louis Drive In. Purve donuts are works of art. Not so familiar with Kahala area. Didn't know there's a beach there. Will have to go.
It was a nice picnic spot! Not sure about the beach though, that side tends to have plenty rocks near shore line. 🤙
I used to go to W&M when they were on 9th and Waialae, where Town used to be. Before that they were on Kapiolani and S. King in the Market City area.

I grew up in Kaimuki and remember W&M when they were on 9th and Waialae as well, and the crab salad had "real" crab :) Kaimuki used to have many great eating places, such as Tanouye saimin, the okazuya places next to the old toys and joys, and awesome bakeries such as Tropics and 9th ave. Keep up the great content!

W&M BBQ Burgers on 3104 Waialae Ave and Queen Theater on 3588 Waialae, I remember buying burgers at W&M and watched the non-stop Surf movies n Porno flicks and 6 hrs later walking back to W&M n having my 2nd shot of super ono Teri beef burger House Special.
P.S.-looks like the donut flavors are to die for!!!!

Youre in luck! Vegas area got choke local flavor/grindz! just look around! Also, isnt Vegas, in general, and the California Hotel (the Cal) specifically, still thought of as "9th Island"? I like the Ox Tail soup at the Cal... served after 11 PM and until next morning (so you can have a big-ass fatty/hearty bowl of Ox Tail Soup with a big bowl of rice for breakfast like a normal person) at Market Street Cafe (not really a "cafe") go with someone else and, if I remember right, get the breakfast buffet for like 6 bux (good price for buffet... to offset the ~$16-17 ox tail special... which cost more at their restaurant but available "normal" eating hours) and share everything... buffet food not great, not fancy, and, since its been sitting around, mostly lukewarm at best, but good deal and they have Potugee sausage! (but no runny eggs and no Spam! Are you listening California Hotel? while youre at it, put some Furikake and Chili peppah watah on the table) get a cheese burger and dip it in the Ox Tail soup like Felix's Pho pro tip power move! the Cal also has Saimin, Loco Moco, and some plates have scoops mac salad as sides. Oh and Zippy's Chili! None of the food is stellar or fancy so dont expect 5 star meal, but most has just the right flavors to trigger that Local nostalgia. Hanabata days... well, not really my hanabata days... I grew up in SoCal, so not sure why Hawaiian-local food triggers my nostagia. I guess growing up with lots of ex-pat Hawaiian neighbors and lots of long vacays to the Islands can trigger too?
I take back the recommendation to get the cheeseburger from Market Street (Main Street? i forget)... 'cause their burgers are bigger kine... too big for dipping and not really like the simple (but still broke-da-mouth) Local kine burgers... maybe they will let you sneak in an In-N-Out for dipping... Oh!!! IDEA! sneak in an In-n-out and have it with Zippy's chili! That's a combo that you cant get in Hawaii!

Love the cheaper local food episodes... hits all those nostalgia notes. so, I don't remember this "KCCN bento" when i go St.Louis Drive In (long time since I've been... like early Noughties) . KCCN pretty big on Oahu... Just hearing "KCCN" make me hear "FM One Hundred..." and Davey D and Lina Girl and Morning Drive... although they left long time ago (I think Lina Girl move Maui). Still all nostalgia... Do they still do Birthday Bash?

Lived in Kaimuki for over 60 years, can't count the times I've eaten at both W & M and St. Louis Drive in. Ate at W & M when it was on 9th and Waialae, and the hamburgers were 25 cents. You could literally buy a hamburger, coke (vanilla coke, cherry coke, green river, lilikoi aide) and French fries for a $1.00. Pay an additional 25 cents for their crab salad, yes and real crab. Really miss those days...FYI: Try the roast pork plate at St. Louis Drive in, da best.
