- I can’t deal with a daily unless it has two things; a fat arm rest and cruise control. When daily becomes nightly decent headlamps help too. It’s time to give a classic Mercedes real world mods, with some period factory parts, and some aftermarket lighting.

This guy deserves his own TV show .... Lockdown exposed me to the shite that passes for entertainment on TV.. .. This is way too much quality...
Yes
100% facts. So much garbage on TV I’d love for this guy to get some backing and funding and big budget to let him go even wilder.
@@CLBMSN there's a channel called Discovery turbo that is supposed to be only about automobiles but half the time Bear Grills runs about eating different types of moss and drinking his own piss. I'd say get rid of Grills and give this guy a show
absolutely. the stop motion alone is the talk of the UA-cam Tech Comunity.
@@CLBMSN Hmmm.... that's a tricky issue. George does wonderous things on (I assume) a shoestring budget. The problem with shifting to TV is that it risks spoiling the magic formula of short films covering a long rebuild. George covers life, engineering and philosophy without talking to a silent left-of-camera interviewer. There's sensible, achievable workmanship, without an irrelevant piece of 'human interest' and artificial tears tacked on. There are no pointless deadlines and no happy endings. It really is the opposite of 'good' TV and therefore all the better for it.
this is the most underrated channel on youtube
agree
I think there is much more footage like this on youtube. Superb quality just out of nowhere. As long as the algorithm of UA-cam spreads shit more than this, the masses choose shit to watch which will lead to more shit that's not better then regular TV.
This is the most repeated comment/claim on UA-cam, therefore it can’t be true. Compliment the man with some originality please.
This is still the best car show on the internet. Can’t wait for more Esprit.
Certainly is. Quality is off the chart.
I agree - what has happened to the Esprit ????
@@jezbon4717 He's skipping the Mercedes van and working on the Esprit next.
Ok. I dont know this channel, and didn't even saw the video. But after reading this, I hope you re right
I watched all the W123 videos in an evening - nearly all, it was getting late. I love these videos, so relaxing and enjoyable to watch.
send me links please , i want to build one
@@vitoscaletta1457 if you are unable to filter through SCM’s 60 something videos and decide which is on a W123, then you afe unable to build a W123. If you are too laze to find the videos, you are too lazy to build a W123. You are not building aW123. Period.
To me your videos are like having my favorite cigar and whiskey, in front of a crackling fire, after enjoying a satisfying steak dinner. Thanks for all the effort you put into these.
I agree entirely. The background music is JUST RIGHT and at the RIGHT VOLUME and his 'stop-motion' photog is breath-taking. I think, perhaps some whole wheat nachos, decent Monterey-Jack cheeze and your favourite spritzer would be all that's needed for Shangrila...!
the effort that goes into these videos is incredible. Love the progress!
Sir, the movies you make are soul mending. I am sitting down with a cup of coffee and with no knowledge of cars I am glued down to my chair not missing a single word or frame. The stop motion is out of this world. If half the planet had your energy and desire to share knowledge there would be no limit to what a human can achieve. Cheers and have a great day!
Totally agree with you Stefan Zlatanovic.
Any mechanism is fascinating to this guy, even that of a sewing machine.
My GF is an eager seamstress... And I have to agree with him. I took the cover off her modern Pfaff because it had a rattle.. and holy moly... That thing has more gears, levers, pinions, actuators and solenoids than a 70s V8 has moving parts combined. And that despite the modern ones being computerized.
most beautiful videos in whole internet, and I really mean it.
George, as far as it goes for the bracketry, you are getting dangerously close to the B.O.M. expert level...at least.
The stop motion with all the parts moving by themselves is hipnotizing. Love it
Thanks :)
What a beauty. These classics have so much more charm and meaning than those new connected things on wheels they make today.
x100 😎
Your channel and Bad Obsession Motorsports are the only two that I turn on notifications. Still don't know how this or any of your videos could get dislikes. Well done, I look forward to another Espirt episode.
I'll watch a normal person fixing up his/her car on a budget over any rich idiot throwing sponsors money at a wrecked supercar any day of the week!😉
On top of this, the episode is so well filmed - real pro👍
Thanks for a great video 🤘
The narration. The editing.
The music. The Car!
How didn't I find this sooner?
Awesome job!
Nearly half an hour of tranquil bliss, ever video is superb. Thank you
These video's are a masterpiece.
The perfect way to start a Sunday. Only one problem, I didn't look away and now I'm blind!
When I was about 8 (1978) years old, my friend’s dad owned one of these (his family were well off). I remember being carried in this Mercedes and it was like being in a space ship compared to my dad’s FIAT 124.!!
Always liked theblooknof the Mercedes W123 and while looking up restoration videos stumbled across these... my God these videos are absolutely class, have been glued to them all morning. Very well made and edited. Hope to see an exterior restoration of the car some day soon. All the best, from a fellow Irish man.
Went to the garage right after watching the outro. Really gives the push to get your own project car going.
That's what I make them for, glad you got out there and thanks :)
You sir have legit the best UA-cam channel I’ve ever had the pleasure, and I mean pleasure, to stumble on. Thank you for the content!
Absolutely the best youtube production I have seen since the Range Rover video in fact.
Everyone else out there has to use this channel as the benchmark , and truth be told 99% of them fall waaaaay short.
Outstanding stuff! Im completely in love with this car.
Fantastic attention to detail and camerawork as always George!
Nothing else on youtube compares to your videos mate. It's a joy to watch. Every time I'm waiting for your video like a little kid waiting for Christmas.
i just can't understand those who dislike these kind of vids, this dude is best DIYer to work on cars, what you have agianst him?
No 'look away' warning on the third weld, now I am blind, that is just great.
Every UA-camr seems to get them. Sometimes they happen with in a minute of the video going live. It's almost like the algorithm puts in a few down votes or something to make the formulas work. LOL. Maybe the algorithm has a division by zero error in it.
@@creamwobbly If were not for 'ad blocker', I could not stand to watch anything online.
@@Mike_Costello fascinating
Beautiful narrative, production techniques, craftsmanship and Stuttgart motor. One of the best restore vids I’ve seen to date. Relaxing and fully enjoyable to watch from the warmth of our armchairs whilst you do battle with that beauty and daily driver in the cold respect to you. Love your edit touches sheer brilliance, the peeps across the pond could learn a thing or two from your approach. 👍👍👍👍👍 please get that rust sorted you gotta keep on top of her she’s so worthy.
Glad you enjoyed it and yes, keen to get the last of the rust tackled on the W123 and get a full feature edit done on the whole project!
I've just finished binge watching every episode. This is genius filmmaking by a genuinely interesting creator.... Thanks
George, lovely to see progress on the 123, Your latest was a much welcome and soothing surprise. Your an artist on many levels. Cheers Mate
zen of fixing cars and your voice like in the 99% Invisible Podcast (Roman Mars)
These videos are just so pleasant to watch. I had a W123 in my youth, and desire to have another now. There is pleasure in fabrication and solving your own problems. Love this channel.
Great video :-) I admire your work as a camera operator and car mechanic. All the best :-)
Motoring content and pure artistry combined is 🔥🔥🔥
Cheers :)
Shoutout from South Africa! An amazing installment as always.
What a joy to watch this. I see my dad and his W123 in every shot. Sadly the car isn't around anymore.
Some of the most entrancing automotive videography and editing on the planet. Such a pleasure to watch, as always.
I absolutely adore these videos, I know it must take you an age to film but they're so good and so unique. The stop action is wonderful and I always look forward to seeing that notification pop up.
As someone who also daily's a classic I really loved the part in the intro about cold starts. Sometimes I wonder if she will even start at all, but she has never left me stranded. : )
Thats why i sponsored my old merc a parking heater. I cant watch this poor car starting cold in the winter every day.
And i really enjoy when all the neighbours with their new cars have to free there windows in the morning while this old thing is just ready to go :D
I understand nothing of what and how you do the things you do in your videos, but I still love to watch them, because I feel that you do it with true love and passion.
Keep doing the awesome work and awesome videos you have been doing! I really love to watch them!
It's always a good day when you post a new video. From the superb stop-motion filming to your rather relaxed voice conveying not just knowledge but also some sort of inspiring confidence.
Another excellent video, many thanks.
Hope so! Thanks for the support :)
I used a chrome spray paint for my mitsubishi pajero fog lights all the reflective material was peeling away this was a few years back and it still looks the business.. love the videos as always
The intro to this is beautifully written and relatable, conveys perfectly the difference between new and old and the satisfaction that comes with having put enough of yourself into a mechanical contrivance that the cat speaks to you. Long may we still be the people who leave the stereo switched off so that we can listen to our engines!
Wish I'd have thought of the stereo off line :)
Such a nice country can’t wait to go back there and enjoy the villages, roads, lakes,.... everything!
Always here :)
One of the best oldtimer restoration channel on youtube. without any unneeded talking
Trying to cut down the talk every time :)
Amazing editing and production as always.. the headlight clip shooting shot had me crying I was laughing so much!
Your skill, determination and passion are truly inspiring!
I've taken inspiration from you to start my own project, two actually, a Mk 4 Jetta and on older F150. Tanks!
Monsooneast
Two easiest car project cars ever.
Good choice
You are so good at this - natural God-given talent (10%) , sheer bloody-minded persistent unrewarded graft (90%) - don't ever think about stopping doing this stuff.
I'd stack it more like 99% bloody mindedness lol, thanks man
I subscribed when you compared a sewing machine to a car. Now that is True Appreciation for mechanics and I love it.
Right on! Thanks man :)
THIS tipped me over the edge. New Patreon on board now.
As a filmmaker and fellow car enthusiast, this channel is by far one of the most satisfying and creative ones I've come across. Your work is amazing and the amount of effort and work that goes into making these definitely does not go unnoticed. Well done and keep up the great work man. Much love from South Africa.
Hey man thanks, loved the E30 edit, you got a good crew there too. Stay with it :)
Best stop motion edits in the UA-cam car world!
Awesome episode! So much work you put in to this. Truly well done!
Just discovered this channel. OMG that editing! Without even counting the actual project, you're an insane man :O
Lucky you, there’s a great back catalogue to go through then!
@Marius Thanks a mill [i think] ;)
@@soupclassicmotoring. Jasus dude you channel is foking amazing, the fit and finish of this video is incredible if you get my drift, if there was Oscars for UA-cam videos you’d win hands down, well done fro
A fellow Irish ☘️ man
FYI I use a product called rub and buff they have aluminum, gold ,bronze etc. It’s fairly inexpensive I like to use the rub and buff and make a mirror surface and the put The clear over it. You can put it on top of paint it’s a very versatile product. Would work really well with those reflectors
Love this channel so much, George
George you never cease to to amaze me, your video's and work are a piece of art. I can't think of anyone more deserving of success than you on UA-cam.
Consider myself very lucky man, success is a subjective thing isn't it. Thank you :)
They don’t make them like they used to. These Mercs look so cool.
Brother! You must of heard me ! I was just wondering when you were going to drop a new one ! And then it popped up! Much appreciated!
The term is " you must *have* heard me." Think about it.

Thanks George. Hope you’re safe and well. Thanks again for another great video. Cheers.
I just watched every episode of your channel and it makes me want to rip into all my projects. Great channel. Keep it up.
'Hate you'.....I saw that connecting block in an earlier stop/go bit of footage and thought..'George hates them...'
I noticed the link late, so I'm going to go get a glass of wine, & sit on the couch to watch this on the HTPC!
edit: As an Aussie, I'm not sure I'd trust that Ned Kelly gang... :p
This channel is always worth the wait. Thank you for your content.
I'm so waiting for the next episode! Love this channel!
I don't fear my classic car not turning on in the morning... I mostly fear that they get banned especially here in Germany...
Banned? For what? If its maintained well, they cant ban it just for kicks...
@@camillosteuss oh they can- there are 55 cities in Germany at the moment where you have to meet a certain standard (air pollution) older cars- and since the whole particulate air pollution ordeal- diesel cars have it even worse and even just a few year old cars are not allowed in certain places
@@olik136 Have it modded and add a cat converter or a dpf with a wider exhaust as to not lose on the flow but gain on filtering... Its stupid thinking that any engine should be "banned' as any engine can be if not made to run clean, filtered afterward to an acceptable standard... We have the technology and its actually quite straight forward, unlike engine running characteristics which involve a bit more complex knowledge of the subject, but filtration and flow are very simple even to someone who is just told how it works and how to calculate the flow and the impact of filtration on the flow itself... Witch chemical purging and binding agents we use nowadays, and taken into consideration the length of an average vehicular exhaust system, anyone can mod a car to at least have "eco-friendly" emissions, regardless of the power orientation or just the purism of keeping the matching engine with an oldtimer... We mod the braking and steering systems on oldtimers because they are not as good as they can be and those two are important, more so than the power output, just the same thing can be applied to exhaust, modding that takes away from absolute purism, but fuck absolute purism... Absolute purism is for the halls of museums or private land and road and not for the public road...
Same here. Just waiting that to happen in California and retire my diesel tank.
This is absolutely amazing, instantly subbed! Looking forward to more w123 content, and hope to one day figure out how you did the awesome stop motion clips!
This channel has such a lovely unique chilled feel to it that every other car channel missed. I'm just rolling back through the archive and enjoying the honesty and setbacks just as much as the triumphs and achievement.
Wow--what a great find this channel has been! Absolutely love the stop action photography.
I'm glad, thank you!
Was pleased to see a new video, keep up the great work
I love you videos! I look forward to every new video you put out!
I LOVE your spirit and your passion for classic motoring! Your honesty is also inspiring!
Beautiful editing, lovely voiceover and great work as usual!

Best motoring youtube vid I've seen a good while. Love the final scenes in the mountains but the stop motion build clips are really nice too. Must have been so much work!

Your filming style is sick bro! Way to be amazing
Great stuff George. Like the stitching lessons too.
Brilliant, creative approach to the subject matter as well as the art of filming/telling the story which I found rather different to most car related content out there . Love it
I was thinking last night when would there be a new Soup episode and it arrives this morning. Excellent work as always!
Pleasure as always. Great work!
I love your channel and work. Thank you for your craftsmanship
An absolute pleasure to watch, clearly a lot of work put into the production as well as the time and effort in restoring these vehicles.
Very inspirational and relaxing to watch at the same time, there must be a place for this on TV!

This is so cool! Everything is just top notch!!!
Well done!!!
Every video you produce hits my amazement.
Well done.
Keep going💪👍
Lovely video and work! So happy I found this channel.
with all my subscriptions that post daily your content got covered and im so happy to have rediscovered your channel once again to update myself with the therapy you share with us! i love the rough around the edges builds you make. i love a complete restoration myself, but the way you build your car from the inside out giving attention to what really matters before getting to its actual outside aesthetic is really pleasing and it lets you enjoy the ratty look on the road before you carry on to making it look pretty. i aspire to be able to build cars the way you do one day
Great work George, hope you’re keeping well!
