That's true to a point, but not everyone who rides a bike is a cyclist, in the same way that not everyone who drives a car is a motorist. I think that to be a cyclist you have to enjoy riding your bike and be passionate about it; the same applies for motorists - there has to be an element of skill involved and pride in what you do, that's what elevates a bike-rider to a cyclist and a car-driver to a motorist. Maybe I'm just waffling; tell me to shut up!
As a fat cyclist, Kailey and Marley hit the nail on the head. It's so refreshing to see someone who looks like me and who also loves themselves and cycling. There's so much joy on a bike. More of this!
Nice to see you all enjoy riding a bike. Fat people doesn't mean cannot enjoy riding a bike. Most importance ride with reliable parts. Enjoy and ride safely.
As a bicycle advocate, I want to see more of this type of content in bike film! Kailey Kornhauser and Marley Blonsky you are inspiring! And the world needs more people like you.
This is the best video I've seen in a long time. So beautiful and I'm so proud of Kailey and Marley. What an incredible pair of role models. Thank you for your honesty and putting yourself out there. I sobbed. Way to go!
As a 70- year old female cyclist, I've held myself back with a lot of "should be or should do". So refreshing to see different role models. This video is truly fantastic and much needed. Thank you for your honesty and putting yourself out there. You're beautiful. I hope to see you on the road.
I took a day long mountain bike course one day and our coach / instructor said: if you don't get off your bike , it's not an adventure. (in other words....get off and push!). So don't worry about how you get up the hill. Great on you guys! Inspiring. Decades ago I was drinking and smoking myself to death and then I saw a fat guy just trying to jog around the block. It is on that day that I decided to stop killing myself and at least try to get around the block. It's all about getting out. It's all about one block at a time, one ride at a time. Right on guys! You're great. Life inspiring.
You are so right - “to be a cyclist, you just have to be a person riding a bike.” I'm of the cuddly persuasion and after years of worrying about what I look like on my bike, I just don't care because I am having the time of my life. Ride on ladies, we are all with you x
As a plus size girl buying an ebike just to help me get started this makes me so excited. These women are beautiful and strong, I love seeing them be their authentic selves 💜
I cried deeply at how beautiful this documentary is, such healing tears and tears of joy. Thank you to the filmmaker and to Kailey Kornhauser for the stories.
A friend, who’s a high school mountain bike coach, sent this to me and I’m so glad he did. I know I have my own fat phobia, my dad would tell me it was a sin, so I’ve had to teach myself to not judge people and myself according to weight and it’s wonderful to see the beauty, strength, and intelligence of these two women. I adore and admire them. More of these stories, thank you.
As a dietitian, a cyclist, and a clinically obese person there is so much freaking yes to this video. So glad these ladies are out there and I’m happy to support that message!
"Everybody is ment to move" is so true! No matter who you are, as long as it feels good for the people, they should be able to do what they want without being treated differently.
There is way too much elitism in cycling. This was awesome. These ladies are awesome. This took guts. It’s hard to tune out the critics. Thank you for sharing and help me recognize ways I can be more inclusive.
I loved this so much! I am 5'8 1/2. Tall and built like a Viking shield maiden. I wear men's cycling apparel because women's wear could never fit. These women are so cool. They are strong.I have had increasing health issues and love to ride but...My body has a hard time. I am in my 50's. I would love to ride with these women. They would leave me in the dust. Thanks for the inspiration. Ride strong. Pray and Wish this was a monthly series featuring the same and /or different women... Thanks for this.
Fair play. You are right that it should just be about getting out there and enjoying trail ahead not how you look. I’m not fat but I am a disabled cyclist and get a lot of “are you sure you can do that?” Negative stuff so can’t imagine the grief you get. So fair play for just enjoying riding bikes and inspiring others to do the same.
Way to go ladies !! You really are inspiring. Im a very stocky built 58 year old that rides 300 miles a month . I've always been large and tried to starve myself and exercise myself to death most of my adult life. I've discovered cycling and it no longer feels like a chore to exercise...it feels like joy. There's nothing more beautiful than a person who loves who they are , does what they love and smiles big while doing it . I could see the true joy on your faces while riding through the ocean. To me that is real beauty.
I can’t even begin to say how much I love this. I am a fitness coach for 21 years and I have always preached “It doesn’t matter what you look like, just move that beautiful body of yours and DO WHAT YOU WANT!” I lead a weekly women’s group ride in Fort McMurray called ‘Rip ‘n Sip’ and I encourage all ladies, no matter what size or level of rider you are, to come out and play bikes. We ride as a pack. No one is ever left behind. Ever! Then we all go have beers and food together at a local pub. It’s freakin wonderful. We only get one shot at this life. Live it the way you want. Do more of what makes you happy. Screw what anyone else thinks. I am sharing the crap out of this. Love everything about it. WTG ladies. YOU ROCK! 🤟
Shimano comes up with good ones at times, but this is a gem of a video. Hats off to the ladies for sharing their honest views and doing what they love. In cycling, the only time size matters is probably when you get a bike fit. After that, it's all fun. Kudos to all!
What a great video. I have cycled for years and always been on the heavy side but I love it and no one is going to stop me. I watched this and was full of pride for he attitude shown and wish both Kailey and Marley many more years of happy cycling
Girl Power...I love it...I too took up biking to lose weight and still try ...lol... My sister and I rode 5oo miles in 6 days over 3 mountain passes in British Columbia last fall and both of us gained 5 pounds....we laughed so hard about that. I live on a plant based diet, no oils, sugars or flour and still have not lost a pound. I no longer worry about it ..my bike has changed my attitude about so many things. Thanks for the great video..
I love you both so very much! As a fat cyclist myself, I always told myself that I didn’t belong. But riding a bike always felt so natural to me. So many think that losing weight will some how solve their problems. But that’s just not true. Living your life, loving yourself for who you are versus expecting someone to do it is when life really begins. Thank you so much for this video! It’s speaks volumes!
We couldn't be any happier and prouder! Marley is an inspiration for our movement here in Sweden and a great person! Please SHIMANO, help your Scandinavian branch move together as one with you! I hope Bicycling Magazine, Svenska Cycling Plus, and other cycling media are watching this! The fight is quite lonely at times here in the Northern hemisphere. XL Biking is the only movement of its sort. We want more people on bikes and a cycling culture that embraces them! Well done Shimano! Well done indeed!
I just watched your story on UA-cam and wanted to tell you how much you ladies touched my heart. I to have struggled all my life with my weight. Always the fat chick. Starve literally to lose so I would be excepted. And still to this day cry about my weight and not being That lady and I'm 65 years old. And due to a number of health problems, surgeries and more weight has piled on. So I just wanted to thank you. Show those little girl and young ladies you are perfect how God made you and you don't have to be what others think you should be. God bless and Bike On!!
I am also a fat lady biker, and seeing this video gave me so many feels! Biking gives me so much joy and I hate to think that there are other beautiful babes out there who think biking isn't for them because they're fat. Everyone deserves to ride a bike! Thanks so much to Shimano and especially to these inspiring ladies
A freind of mine was way overweight, he competed in tryathlons, he never came first but he wasn't always last either. And BTW I could not have competed in a tryathlon ever! Awsome guy and awsome gals. Live the life in your lane.
I'm 39 and weigh 345lbs. About a month ago I had started riding 2 to 3 times a week. This past week was a total drag, I didn't ride at all. After seeing your video my sails became full again. Thank you for being the ray of sun shine I needed in my life. You're the wind that pushes me to go faster and further.
I'm stoked for everyone who rides. Personally carried over 260 - 275 lbs all through my 40s and 50s. I too found myself behind any group etc but never let that bother me. Now at 221# but the loss came from changes in appetite due to Covid-19 ( a blessing in disguise for me ) and retirement. Keep up the great attitudes! If you want to lose weight it is 90% how you eat. "Portion size and exercise" is my new mantra. These days burgers are beer are a rarity. LOL
As the only fat cyclist in my cross country group I would love to commend Shimano for this! I'd love to see more bike brands marketing their bikes to all types of bodies who just enjoy it out there! This is not just for the fit people!
I have pudendal neuralgia and a few other conditions, Im a fat girl and I miss riding my bike so much! I've always struggled with body image deeply, and my partner who's a bike mechanic sent me this. I cannot convey into words how much everything said in this video meant to me. I cried, I smiled, I felt every word on such a deep resonance. Im so grateful for strong, vocal, incredible souls to speak up for us! Absolutely amazing. ❤
It doesn't matter who you are, it doesn't matter what kind a bike you have, one thing is more important we are cyclist who enjoy our bike everyehere and anywhere with joy... ❤
Good job, Shimano! Screw anyone who discourages someone else from bettering themselves or doing something they enjoy. If anything, I find the fact that they rode that route with such a large elevation gain, and carrying all that weight to be seriously impressive. They're better riders than the majority of people, if anything. Good job, guys!
This means so much to me. Thank you both for being so honest and open about your journeys. It resonates so much with my own story, and this film encourages me to do the damn thing regardless of my body image. Thank you Shimano for leading the charge on making fat cyclists feel welcome in cycling and outdoor communities.
Kudos to these two ladies. With the pandemic shutdown I see more and more cyclists who are older and less typical road "cyclist" out riding on local trails. Hopefully the not so typical cyclists would stick around after the pandemic. Also, please don't label yourselves, just ride and have fun!
More of this, PLEASE! I was lucky enough to be at a presentation they gave on this topic and this video is more of what the cycling industry needs to hear. Well fucking done Shimano!
Props to these women. I use to be a couple oreos from 400 lbs. I didn't even consider getting on a bike until I was 250 lbs. I was worried how I'd look being big on a bike or if the bike could support the weight. Biking was definitely a catalyst for me losing more of the weight. At that point I already had done much of the work with intermittent fasting and lower carb. Biking made exercise more fun and a habit that made me not feel like I was working out, but doing something enjoyable. I'm glad they didn't let their weight stop them from enjoying the sport like it did for me.
Somebody should start a cycling - dress range....short enough to stay out of the gears, just long enough to cover your lycra cladded bits...nice breathable, cotton.
I am now rather in the fat category and wear some kind of trousers everywhere. When I was slim I cycled in skirts or dresses for decades. It helped that I could make them myself, but I never made cycling clothes because that is precisely what I don’t want. I made clothes that let me cycle in them.
Thanks for reminding me that bike riding is about the joy of the experience - and not all about watts/kilo and VO2 max. I will share this video with my racing buddies to remind them too. Well done Kailey and Marley!
Hello ladies...I just found you amazing site and I love it. I'm 74 yrs young and would like to cycle again, it truly is freedom feeling when I was out there. How ever it's been almost 34 yrs since I cycled and honestly I'm a bit fearful of a crash now, but adventure runs through my blood...heck if I can pack up and move 3400 miles across this Canada surely I can climb back onto a great bike that would support me. You are truly an inspiration...you go girl!
Thank you for being willing to make yourselves vulnerable as spokespeople. None of us like talking about our anguish on camera. I assure you that placing names and faces for the world to associate with is working and we support you (with enthusiastic expletives🤘🏽🤩) on your ride to leave the world better than you found it!
This is the most inspiring thing I have ever, EVER watched. As a bigger lady who recently discovered a love for riding, I have always worried I'm too fat to fit the part of a "typical cyclist". Truly wonderful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. 💙
Your faces when you reach the coast! 😊 I don’t get the whole ‘tribalism’ with cycling..🤔 Somebody asks what kind of cyclist I am..... I say “one that turns the pedals”. Does it matter...my age.....my body.....my bike.....how fast (slow) I ride.....how far I go??? I just want to be out there ‘flying’ on my bicycle, listening to the birds, watching the sky change, breathing in the changing seasons, soaking up the scenery..... If you girls lived near me I’d so love to share those experiences with you. 👍👍👍🚴♀️🚴♀️
I am floored. So much of this is me, I'm crying my eyes out at just seeing myself on the other side of this camera. Yes yes yes! Fat cyclist in PGH! 💙 (blue heart emoji)
I love this joyous video. Kailey and Marley show their joy, which I share with biking. I love that Shimano sponsored this. All body sizes, all speeds, all persuasions of biking love. Ride on!!
This is amazing! Thank you Kailey Kornhauser, Marley Blonsky, and Shimano for getting this message out there! All bodies are good bodies. All bodies deserve respect. And all bodies deserve equal access to health, movement, and fun! These two women are incredible powerhouses and such beautiful, compassionate humans! The cycling industry and world are long overdue in their need for diversity and inclusion. THANK YOU!
That was the best cycling film I have watched in ages. Thank you for making it and for having the awkward conversations. I would be honoured to ride with you any time... That is truly sincere and not meant to be condescending in any way. I mean it! Bloody brilliant film and attitude. Great stuff...
I think you both are so amazing. Best quote, " To be a cyclist, you just have to be a person riding a bike". I'm almost 60 yrs. old and also a heavy rider. I don't care what others have to say. 🤗I just enjoy my ride.🚲
Particularly the last 12 months a lot of prominent brands have done a lot of banner waving about diversity and inclusion with very little action. Shimano on the other hand quietly get on and do it. 👍👍👍👍
Thank you, this is an important video. Too many people think they can't cycle, because they aren't thin, don't want wear spandex, be hunched over on a racer, and spend as much for a bike as an old car. I am 58, and fat. Cycled 4,000km last year, did three centuries last year. Planned to cycle 100 km in a day this week, but the Swedish spring weather had other plans, snow and 45 km/hr winds.
Actually we can control what we eat, we just can’t control who processes it, packages it and sells it to a market for us to choose from. This video is super empowering, I understand where they’re coming from and how challenging it is to be human, There’s no right or wrong way to life, it’s just about the intention. Your body isn’t broken, you are where you are! Thank you!
Big point. Yes, fat folks may be the ones making the final decision on what goes into their body, but access to good food is largely out of people's control, esp when socio-economic factors are considered.
One of the most inspiring cycling videos I've ever seen! You girls rock! Applicable to so many life challenges and challenges of acceptability of the bicycle in the broader community and acceptability issues within the cycling community. THANK YOU for putting this out there!
Yesss!!! So awesome to see the conversation get expanded - biking brings joy to so many people. Thanks for making sure different body sizes are getting included in the narrative!!
Absolutely awesome. Loved you, loved the video, loved everything. I’m a big fan of Fat Lad (and Lass) At The Back here in the UK who not only make fantastic cyclewear for all sizes of people (because all sizes of people cycle) but also put a lot back into the community to try and break up the negatives you touch on throughout the video. I’m a regular in the FLAB Facebook community group where they have 8000 cyclists of all sizes who can and do post pics without fear of negative comments. It’s an amazing community. I’ve shared this video on there and hope every single member watches it! Be great if you could have a look in sometime, though now you’re a list celebs, you might not have time 😂 and massive respect to Shimano for acknowledging that their customer base is diverse but that’s not as well represented as it could be.
Tip of the hat to you here Shimano. Really hope to see so many more on the ground stories of people cycling, enjoying bicycles, the two-wheeled life , regardless of background. RIDE ON!
"Fat people, we're done hiding." Best line ever. You girls look like a lot of fun. I wish I had someone like you to bike pack with. Great video. Ride on!
This is beautiful, wonderful, and inspirational ! I still don't think we should encourage being overweight or say its perfectly alright because there is often more to it than just a shape/look; but it certainly shouldn't be shamed, and this is a fantastic way to encourage good habits and health, and show so many, no matter their size, health, or otherwise, that there is more to enjoying life and that they often do have the strength with willpower to get out there and experience whatever they put their mind to. I think that often the hardest part for people with troubles (weight, mental health, or otherwise), is finding the willpower to just take the first (few) steps and get out of what is often an overbearing sense of self-doubt or depression. What you are doing and encouraging is far and beyond the best way to do it! Especially because by not mentioning the above, there is nothing that can be perceived as an attack on the persons identity or appearance, so they are not dissuaded/don't feel like they are told to change, but the result of the practice will over time help them feel better and healthier and often lead to further transformation by their own decision to hone their skills or achieve goals like going farther, completing a steep climb, or doing their first jumps safely.
I'm 62, 205 lbs. and only started to ride an ebike a year ago (after not riding any bike for three decades). This past weekend, I rode the Lake Chelan Tour Lite and put 125 miles on my bike in three days (day one had an elevation gain of 2,582). I never dreamed I would be a long distance rider!
I loved this! Please more of this. I follow some cycling communities on social media but get tired that people like me are not represented. It is also hard and next to impossible to find cycling clothing that will fit me. Love Love Love this!
This gave me so much joy! “To be a cyclist you just have to be a person riding a bike.”
Exactly !!!
So true and so simple 🙏
agreed, not at peloton don't named you as non cyclist
like gravel riding, just ride any bike at gravel section lol
And water is wet.

If anything, I find the fact that they rode that route with such a large elevation gain, and carrying all that weight to be seriously impressive. They're better riders than the majority of people, if anything. Good job, guys!
i love this. i love to see people on bikes. im partial to shimano but this makes me love them even more
"There's no one right way to ride a bike." This is so great!
This means so much to me. Thank you both for being so honest and open about your journeys. It resonates so much with my own story, and this film encourages me to do the damn thing regardless of my body image. Thank you Shimano for leading the charge on making fat cyclists feel welcome in cycling and outdoor communities.
Up with people!
Kudos to these two ladies. With the pandemic shutdown I see more and more cyclists who are older and less typical road "cyclist" out riding on local trails. Hopefully the not so typical cyclists would stick around after the pandemic. Also, please don't label yourselves, just ride and have fun!
Shimano please push more stuff like this! We need to get the mass on bikes for our environment and traffic!
My inner child thought, “hey, they look like me!” Thanks for this, I still am choked up and wanna go for a ride!
Go, it is so good.
Thank you, Kailey and Marley, and Shimano!
More of this, PLEASE! I was lucky enough to be at a presentation they gave on this topic and this video is more of what the cycling industry needs to hear. Well fucking done Shimano!
Right?!! Round of applause Shimano 👏
I'm here now, I'm 245 and it's such a shame that I am worried what people may think. 😫
This is extraordinary and a wonderful shout out to the big ladies pounding pedals out there. Well done.
Awesome! Keep riding Kailey and Marley! You're amazing and all people should be able to ride bikes. Really enjoyed this video!
Bike backing in a dress might be the most badass thing ever!
@@geobloxmodels1186 I could not agree more. The more different kinds of people on all kinds on bikes!
The world needs more videos like this!!!
Best cycling video ever, keep cycling, ladies!!!!! Live loving who you are.
Fantastic!! Exactly what this world needs more of. I love these ladies.
“The primary reason we go out is to have fun.” You said it girl! Well done. Bike on.
Ahh... life before Strava...
I LOVED your video. I am a new cyclist. This is inspiring to me. You go ladies!!
This is the best thing on youtube right now. Genuine joy on bikes ❤️ all bodies on bikes are cycling bodies!
I don’t get the whole ‘tribalism’ with cycling..🤔
Somebody asks what kind of cyclist I am.....
LOVE LOVE LOVE this video and these adventurous, powefull girls / woman so much!!! YESSSSSS!!!! Somebody should start a cycling dress - range.
Thank you for this! I recently started cycling and stumbled on this movie! It's been so inspiring!
I am a 270lbs MTB rider and I feel you, I cannot tell you how many times people have written me off before a ride, only to be outridden.
Kailey and Marley.... keep it up! Sending much love!
I think you both are so amazing. Best quote, " To be a cyclist, you just have to be a person riding a bike". I'm almost 60 yrs. old and also a heavy rider. I don't care what others have to say. 🤗I just enjoy my ride.🚲
If you're riding with your FRIENDS, you dont drop your FRIENDS
I'm in tears! Thank you so much! This hit home. I'm a fat cycler, too! Damn proud of it!
To cycle is to embrace the love of life, and savour those moments of joy.
Particularly the last 12 months a lot of prominent brands have done a lot of banner waving about diversity and inclusion with very little action.
Shimano on the other hand quietly get on and do it. 👍👍👍👍
Kailey and Marley thank you for your courage and inspiration!
Ich bin unendlich dankbar für dieses Video...bitte teilt es! So motivierend.
Great woman doing a great job, go ahead ladies and keep fighting. You are a good example to all the world.
This video is super empowering, I understand where they’re coming from and how challenging it is to be human,
There’s no right or wrong way to life, it’s just about the intention.
I genuinely had a tear in my eye watching this. I could really relate to this, thank you!
Yesss!!! So awesome to see the conversation get expanded - biking brings joy to so many people. Thanks for making sure different body sizes are getting included in the narrative!!
It’s pretty awesome Shimano is doing this. Cheers
You're definitely not alone. This made me so happy to watch.
I'd love to feel as confident as you both do on a bike! Kudos to you both and keep pedaling!
Ride on!
Much love from Phatboys mtb club over the pond in Scotland. Phatgirlz rock 🤟
well done ladies, and great video Shimano! 👍
Especially because by not mentioning the above, there is nothing that can be perceived as an attack on the persons identity or appearance, so they are not dissuaded/don't feel like they are told to change, but the result of the practice will over time help them feel better and healthier and often lead to further transformation by their own decision to hone their skills or achieve goals like going farther, completing a steep climb, or doing their first jumps safely.
the view is so beautiful so is them💖
I'm 62, 205 lbs. and only started to ride an ebike a year ago (after not riding any bike for three decades). This past weekend, I rode the Lake Chelan Tour Lite and put 125 miles on my bike in three days (day one had an elevation gain of 2,582). I never dreamed I would be a long distance rider!
Absolutely love this video! The smiles on their faces is the perfect way to end this video.
Good for you for supporting this, Shimano. And thank you to Kailey and Marley for sharing their stories and their bikepacking adventure with us. :)
I loved this! Please more of this. I follow some cycling communities on social media but get tired that people like me are not represented. It is also hard and next to impossible to find cycling clothing that will fit me. Love Love Love this!
Shimano is always making the difference in our life! Wonderful film. Encouraging people’s lives. Tks
You to inspire me to move beyond my own comfort zones. Bravo!
This adventure looks amazing. Thank you for sharing
More of this. Best cycling video I have ever seen in ten years.
Way to go Kailey and Marley! Keep rolling and seek new adventures.
Thank you for this truly inspiring and encouraging video
